Rules Questions

how does one target his allies with it or is it like a burst centered on you ? and can you effect yourself with it ?

Description says it works like haste except for 1 round duration, so it is a spell-like ability with close range that targets up to one creature per caster level and there is a 30 feet limit on a maximum distance between all targets affected. The talent does not say that you can't include yourself and there is an established interpretation saying that you are considered your own ally so you can include yourself.

Scarab Sages

However, you only get limited benefit from using it on yourself unless you spend the burn cost to increase the duration. It takes a standard action to use, and ends on your next turn. You can get the bonus to AC and movement speed, but you don't get the benefit of an extra attack.

Grand Lodge

It is more about buffing your party then yourself. Considering you can trade your standard for a potential extra attack for several party members this can be quite useful. At high levels the burn is worth it in major fights and also is a great use of the buffered burn.

Scarab Sages

I agree. I was just pointing out the potential downsides of using it on yourself if you were using the non-burn version.

ok thanks and about the burn my guy has enough hp atm to handle taking 20 burn so burn is basically no problem for him. though thats if he isn't hit in combat but ill have to wait til 10th level to take celerity since i grabbed wings of air at 6 and expanded def at 8 group is 9th lvl and i just joined it and apparently they have a custom deck of many things which i think ill prolly stay away from lol.

Scarab Sages

You can't take 20 points of burn unless you have a Con score of 44. If you have that at 9th level, that's some game you're playing.

con score of 34 and total hp of 186

Scarab Sages

You can only accept a maximum amount of burn equal to 3 + CON Modifier. For a con of 34 that is 15. If you took your maximum burn at 9th level, that would be 135 points of non-lethal damage, giving you a buffer of only 51 points.

how are you getting a 34 con at lv9?

A kineticist can't choose to accept burn if it would put her total number of points of burn higher than 3 + her Constitution modifier

34 con is a 12 mod so you can accept 15 burn a day. which would equate to 135 non-lethal damage. Not quite the 20 you said you could do.

How the hell do you have a con score of 34? That's ridiculous.

Even if you started with 20, had a +6 enhancement bonus (which you can't afford), put your level 4 and level 8 ability increases into, and bought a manual of bodily health +5 (which you can't afford) this would still only put you at a 33.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I can't think of any reasonable way you should have such a high con score without some super shenanigans.

Scarab Sages

Elemental Overflow is also granting a +2 size bonus to con at this point, which does count. Still way too high of a total bonus at 9th level.

On friendly terms with Nocticula herself for +6?

ended up with some funky stuff the gm handed out which gave me +6 bonus base stat was 20 before racial got a belt of con and dex +2 also had 64k to spend and he gave me a pull from the deck but wasn't gona give me anything bad from the start and i ended up getting 2 wishes buying a +2 stackable con ioun stone went archon blooded aasimar and i think thats it for what i was given with purchasing since i bought ac boosting stuff with the rest of it. forgot to add my +2 level bonus to con for 4 and 8.

Scarab Sages

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Ah. So it is super shenanigans.

yeah the gm said he has run multiple games into epic level so im sure he knows what he's doing.
