"Sure, Hikari."

"I can't say much, although we should remember all of this was once beneath the sea until Aroden brought it up. What would bring his faithful here at the height of his power? I wonder. I will see what magic there is here, but perhaps we should attempt the rituals?"
Yeska closes his eyes and repeats the same awkward swivel from earlier.
Detecting the magic, like I do. Build up to full detection then slowly rotate around.
Haldoc Tisbane |
Experience new things, they say. Fine.
Haldoc will attempt to enter the water and try his best to do as the others are doing.
Yakari |
Yakari grinds his teeth when he sees Hikari handing the magical cloak but he doesn't intervene.
"Couldn't we just, like, go anywhere else and explore the caves? That's what we were meant to do, remember? Seriouslyyyy..." says the teenager whining.
GM Lithrac |
The water is refreshing, the sound of waves soothing. Some may even find clarity in meditating in the water like this. As for Uori, he has returned to his own meditation after a courteous nod.
Gridger Rusk |
Tired from hiding, Gridger emerges from the shadows and re-lights his lantern. He walks towards the west end of the cave.
"I'm heading in this direction, who's coming with me?"

Fahr takes a deep breath and slowly opens his eyes. "I will pay my respects to Aroden first, as a Hunter." He looks around for some prey appropriate to the scale of the city.

Haldoc Tisbane |
Once everyone else is prepared to explore further, Haldoc will follow Gridger to the west. We should wonder off alone, or so I'm told.

The smooth cavern floor is covered in gravel and pebbles along the edge of the pool, and several foot-long centipedes prowl among the gravel in their search for prey.
thanks to Hikari for pointing this out to me from the room description via PM
Fahr pulls out an arrow and skewers a centipede, which he then places on the miniature city.
The ritual complete, he looks at the rest of the party and nods his head in the direction of the reliefs from the previous room as he says "Do I need to do all of these myself?"

Hikari Hayashi |
As the blessing descends upon the party, Hikari looks around in wonder. Is this just some remnant of Aroden's power lingering in this cavern? Or might he still be alive?
Hikari notices the torch that he is still handing in his hand. He smiles, realising now what had possessed him to take it earlier. "Thank you, Fahr. I believe you have uncovered the mystery of this altar. Turning to face the altar, Hikari continues, "And what better role for me to play, than that of the Soldier, bringing the light of Shizuru to banish darkness from civilisation.
With that, he lays the torch onto the miniature city, and kneels in front of it, uttering a silent prayer to both his goddess Shizuru, and to Aroden, the god who may have passed. Or maybe not.
For the benefit of everyone, reposting the rituals from GM's post earlier here.
The Hunter is depicted slaying a giant serpentine creature and then parading a trophy through the city streets—a sign to all humanity that the wilds are safe to inhabit once the monsters are slain. The ritual includes hunting a beast of some kind, then bringing it back to the city.
The Scholar is depicted writing on a piece of parchment and then reading from it to passersby, just as Aroden was said to smile on those who recorded history and other knowledge to share it with others. To complete the Scholar’s ritual, one must record a historical fact, axiom, or other piece of wisdom on a piece of paper and place it in a place of knowledge.
The Soldier is depicted bearing a lantern through the streets of a city, following the dead god’s prophecy that the vigilant shall carry light to the darkest corners of the world to banish the shadows. To complete the Soldier’s ritual, one must place a torch or something of similar purpose in the city.
Finally, the Thief is depicted stealing a gem from a shop while whispering a prayer, an allusion to a passage saying that larceny—though illegal—is a form of praise, for anything worth stealing is also worthy of praise for its craftsmanship. To complete the Thief ’s ritual, one must commit a theft without being noticed.
Gridger Rusk |
Not particularly a religious man, Gridger gains a sudden realisation with the blessings bestowed upon him. Could these people be on to something? Who better than I to play the role of the thief? He turns towards the corner of the room out of the Gillman's range. Set asides his armour, backpack, prepares himself and attempts to move through the shadows towards the miniature city and attempts to swipe a precious stone.

Yeska |
Taking a parchment from beneath his robes, Yeska scratches hastily against it. The Aboleths called down the Starstone. He places it on the miniature city in such a way that the torch does not light it. "I suppose that makes me the scholar, Aroden help us all."
Fahr Mathon |
Fahr nods. "There may be hope for us yet." He writes a summary of their encounter with the gillman and the rituals on his parchment before looking up, "Let's get on then."

GM Lithrac |
As everyone attention is drawn to Uori and turn their back on Gridger, the latter manages to steal one of the precious stones - actually only colored pebbles - from the diorama. Moments later, Yeska deposes a scroll on the city-altar. Once again, you feel at peace in this place, akin to the feeling the gillman described as "listening to the waves".
Completing the thief ritual grants each of you a +1 circumstance bonus to AC against a single attack made while you benefit from cover.
Completing the scholar's ritual grants all of you a +1 competence bonus on Knowledge checks made to identify the abilities and weaknesses of creatures.
Well done! Where to now?
Hikari Hayashi |
Hikari rises from his knees, dripping wet but smiling blissfully. He nods at his companion in turn for taking part in the ritual, before executing yet another elegant bow to the gillman. Making sure that Uori is able to see his face first, Hikari says, "Thank you for your guidance on the rituals of the god Aroden. We shall disturb you no longer. I grant that the gods bless you with peace and wisdom."
He then turns to his party. "Yes, Fahr, we should be on our way. There might be much more of the caverns to cover. If Gridger feels that the passage to the west looks secure, then let us proceed."
At that, Hikari, as before, moves to the front, holding up his glowing shield and wielding his katana. He looks back briefly, hoping for signs of Janira, but seeing none, starts making his way towards the western passage.

Gridger Rusk |
Gridger nods back in an awkwardly manner towards his allies, and to the gillman. Amused and confused at how he feels towards the blessings, he hastily retrieves his items and turns to Hikari. "I had checked the passage, it seems to be clear of traps." And in turn follows closely behind him with his rusty lantern in hand.
Could there be more to this "Aroden"?
Fahr Mathon |
Fahr follows down the tunnel after retrieving his gear. He nocks an arrow to his bow.

He follows the party, paying attention to what's ahead.

The passage leading from the gillmen’s holy site is coated with the omnipresent bioluminescent fungi. Though you encounter several points where the tunnel branches off in different directions, all of those paths either narrow beyond your abilities to traverse, lead back to this main trail, or are blocked by a cave-ins. Trekking through the twisting passages to a large cavern takes you approximately 20 minutes by foot. The persistent glow of the bluish fungi dimly lights the way deeper below the Kortos Mounts. The tunnels broaden to reveal a shallow river that bisects an immense tunnel stretching to the north and south. To the east a small passage exits the chamber at a steep incline. As Yakari and Grand Aigle get closer to the river, they stop all of a sudden, having seen something the others didn't.

Ambush! - surprise round (standard action only)
1. (Gridger)
2. Kobolds
3. (Yeska), (Fahr), Haldoc, Yakari, Hikari
Bold names may act!
Note: The water is knee-deep here. It costs 2 squares of movement to move into a square with a shallow bog, and the DC of Acrobatics and Stealth checks in such a square increases by 2.
Don't forget the boons from the rituals!
Hikari Hayashi |
Without hesitation, Hikari moves towards the reptilian creatures, holding up his shield, hoping to draw their attacks away from his more vulnerable teammates.
Just move action towards the kobolds.
Haldoc Tisbane |
Haldoc will move in order to cross the river and close on the kobolds!
Haldoc Tisbane |
I moved him toward the kobolds.
Gridger Rusk |
Gridger drops his bag at sight of danger, draws his sword and moves towards flanking position! Hoping to get the perfect moment to strike the enemy down.
GM Lithrac |

Yeska |
Yeska fumbles hurriedly with his belongings, looking all too inexperienced with the crossbow that he draws to a level.
Still feeling new on Pathfinder. Am I able to draw and load in a single turn?
Haldoc Tisbane |
Haldoc smiles as the feeble kobolds miss with their aim. He then closes in and attacks the (blue) kobold!

@Yeska you should read up on the combat chapter and check out the actions table. Also read the descriptions for crossbows in the equipment chapter.
but yes, it is a move action to draw a weapon and also a move action to reload a light crossbow. A heavy crossbow is a full round action to reload. I personally assume that crossbows and slings are stored already loaded
-Posted with Wayfinder
Hikari Hayashi |
Yeska, drawing a weapon that is sheathed would be a move action in itself. When you get a BAB of +1, then it can be drawn as part of a move. In this case, I would assume that the crossbow is already drawn. For light crossbows, you need a move action to draw and load a bolt, followed by a standard action to fire. So, in summary, yes, you can load and fire in one turn - it would consume your move and standard actions respectively. Also, I would assume that the crossbow start being loaded.
Hikari slogs through the water, moving closer to the enemies. He then pauses, studying the red kobold.
Move Action: move 10 ft through water
Standard Action: replace with move action Studied Target:+1 bonus on Bluff, Knowledge, Perception, Sense Motive, and Survival checks attempted red kobold, and a +1 bonus on weapon attack and damage rolls against it. DCs of class abilities against that opponent increase by 1
Gridger Rusk |
Just realised a grave error on my part, water movement penalties. Moving my character on map to appropriate position. And will just ready an attack as standard action
Due to inexperience, not taking into account the terrain Gridger miscalculated his movements in his head and find himself further away from the enemy than he wanted to be. Did I just think that attack in my head? In his shock he stands ready for an attack.
GM Lithrac |
While Yeska fumbles for his crossbow, Fahr is one step ahead and shoots an arrow that pierces one of the kobolds' foot. "Yip, yip!" it squeals, not so much because of the pain, but in anticipation of a much bigger (and potentially more hurtful) problem: a charging barbarian! Haldoc closes in on the reptilians so enthusiastically that his mighty strike swings past the kobold, shattering a stalagtite in the process.
Gridger and Hikari approach the kobolds in a more careful manner, studying their quarry before they consider striking.
Ambush! - round 1
1. Kobolds (blue 3, red 0)
2. Yeska, Fahr, Haldoc, Yakari, Hikari, Gridger
Yakari |
Sorry, I thought that I would be able to post yesterday but I wasn't.
Yakari moves through the water and arrives eventually on the other side. Grand Aigle follows him.
GM Lithrac |
The crafty kobolds circle around the barbarian and outflank him, striking his with their toy-like spears. "Kill the longshank invaders! Yip, yip!"

Spear @Haldoc, flanking: 1d20 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 1 + 2 = 171d6 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2
Haldoc is unable to dodge the spears, yet luckily they only inflict grazing wounds.
Ambush! - round 2
1. Kobolds (blue 3, red 0)
2. Yeska, Fahr, Haldoc (3), Yakari, Hikari, Gridger
Fahr Mathon |
Fahr takes another step closer. Once again he slowly begins to tighten his bowstring, eyes locked on the nearer kobold. After a moment he releases another arrow that sails at the kobold.

"Baka!" Hikari curses the kobolds under his breath.
He steps forward, getting ready to strike with his katana as soon as one of his companions move to engage the kobolds, hopefully in flanking position.
Hikari ready action to strike as soon as Yakari or Grand Aigle moves to engage the kobolds, possibly with flanking. Will add the flanking bonus below, but please remove it if it didn't turn out that way.

damage, studied target: 1d8 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 3 + 1 = 9
Yakari |
Yakari and Grand Aigle are already flanking :)
Yakari concentrates and focuses on his next little trick. He giggles at what he plans to do. With Grand Aigle's aid, he shapes his index and middle finger in a V and burrows them in the kobold's eyes!
Dirty Trick (improved, dirty fighting), blind: 1d20 + 4 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 + 4 = 24
Move action to use martial flexibility to gain "improved dirty trick" and standard to try to blind him for one round. Yakari gets a +4 instead of the regular +2 from Improved Dirty Trick thanks to flanking and Dirty Fighting.
On his side, Grand Aigle attacks the kobold in front of him.

damage, sneak attack: 1d6 + 2 + 1d6 ⇒ (5) + 2 + (3) = 10
Haldoc Tisbane |
Haldoc gets poked a couple of times by the kobold, which is enough to infuriate him! I'll slice you to ribbons, dog! Haldoc flies into a rage and attacks the one he has flanked! Or whichever one is still alive.
Rage: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 7 + 2 = 20 for Damage: 2d4 + 12 ⇒ (1, 4) + 12 = 17
GM Lithrac |
Fahr: you're shooting at a target in melee without the Precise Shot feat. Please make sure you apply the -4 penalty next time.
Yakari, please check the map, you aren't flanking or even in melee range after the kobolds took their 5-ft step.
Fahr's arrow is both swift and deadly. The ranger is obviously blessed by Erastil, for his shot reaches the (blue) kobold between the eyes, thus killing it instantly!
Gridger, Hikari and Haldoc close in on the kobolds and attack as one. The kobolds prove to be elusive creatures, though, and they dodge all the incoming attacks, save for Haldoc's, which slays the second kobold.
End combat!
As you recover from this brief skirmish with the local cave dwellers, you begin to hear the faint sounds of combat and a familiar woman’s voice half-shouting and half-reciting, "As the legendary Gregaro Voth successfully battled the wild beasts in the deepest reaches of the Mwangi Expanse, so shall I defeat you, foul servant of Lamashtu!" The voice appears to come from a narrow tunnel opening from the eastern wall of the cave you're in.
Haldoc Tisbane |
Haldoc falls out of his short rage and quickly recovers. He then listens to the voice and looks to the others with a concerned look on his face.
Haldoc Tisbane |
If anyone needs healing (I'm down 4 HP) lets make sure to do that first. We have Janira's wand if anything.
Assuming we do, CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Haldoc nods in agreement. This way then! He'll lead the party toward the sound of the voice.
