Fort Save (Fortune): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
Second Fort Save
Fort Save: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28 - Pass
Refen is looking straight on for the gaze attack. I'm very familiar with how gaze attacks work. ;)
Will Save: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20 - Fail
And now for his actual turn.
Full Round Action
Refen looks visibly afraid of the center monster and runs away, withdrawing. Unfortunately, the Rose Bush next to him will still get an AoO because withdrawing only prevents the first square of the move from an AoO.

Alie couldn't tell what was going on in the room, but she sure could tell what was going on at the doorway, and it wasn't good. "Everyone get out of there! Get back to us on this side, and I'll use a Wall of Stone to seal them off in there!"
Ready action to cast Wall of Stone, if the others come running.

![]() |

You do remember that Muzthari is in possession of Aram Zey's soul and might escape with it if you retreat, right?

As Refen flees the scene and doesn't find in his heart the fortitude to face his deepest fears, the white rose bush lashes out at him, but luckily it misses the voonith.
Bite: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 141d8 + 13 ⇒ (3) + 13 = 16
Alie, where do you want to cast the wall of stone? Could you draw it on the map, please? Also, who do you exactly mean by "the others"? Ra and Refen?
Where the Wild Roses Grow - round 2
1. Muzthari
2. Alie (ready - wall of stone), Refen (60, bleed 1d4, panicked then shaken 4 rounds), Voros
3. Rose bushes
4. Xiaobo (23, 5 Con damage, poison DC 21, 1 consecutive save done), Sharna & Ra (36, panicked then shaken 2 rounds), Noro (2, 2 bleed, -2 Will and damage, Will resave pending)

![]() |

Oh boy... What do we do? Nobody could even damage the creatures! Voros delays to act after the rose bushes.

![]() |

Thanks for the information, Alie.
Voros prefers to watch and consider more thoughtfully the best course of action as he beholds his companions be powerless to do anything meaningful.
The red rose bush charges through the room, slowly but steadily, and takes a bite at the hallucinating barbarian. Luckily for the Pathfinders, it is far too sluggish to be of any threat to Noro.
Bite, charge, Vital Strike: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (5) + 14 = 192d8 + 13 ⇒ (2, 7) + 13 = 22
The white rose bush bites Ra, downing the proud lifesaving hawk.
Bite: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 271d8 + 13 ⇒ (2) + 13 = 15 Grab: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (10) + 22 = 32
Bite, grappled: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 271d8 + 13 ⇒ (7) + 13 = 20
Bite, grappled: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 271d8 + 13 ⇒ (3) + 13 = 16
Bite, grappled: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 281d8 + 13 ⇒ (8) + 13 = 21
If my calculations are correct, Ra had 31+17=48 hp at the start of the fight. He took 36 damage, so the first bite is enough to knock him unconscious, at which point the rosebush won't bother continuing his full attack (or grabbing) and opt for a move action instead. If for some reason Ra can sustain the first bite, the grab and second attack will take place.
At this point, does Alie cast her wall of stone? It makes sense that she would, seeing Ra fall in battle and having no way of knowing whether it is dead or simply unconscious. Your call, Alie.
In any case, we remain in initiative, so I'll need Noro's full attack and resave, Xiaobo's save against poison (don't forget the antitoxin bonus!) and Ra's stabilization check.
Where the Wild Roses Grow - round 2
1. Muzthari
2. Refen (60, bleed 1d4, panicked then shaken 4 rounds)
3. Rose bushes
4. Alie (casting wall of stone?), Voros, Xiaobo (23, 5 Con damage, poison DC 21, 1 consecutive save done), Sharna & Ra (51 (-3), unconscious, bleeding, panicked then shaken 2 rounds), Noro (4, 2 bleed, -2 Will and damage, Will resave pending)

Alie would definitely think the familiar is dead, so she would cast her Wall spell, trying to save the others.
"I'm so sorry, Sharna! They were going to kill, the rest of us, if we didn't get organized...I'm so sorry your friend is dead!"

The building wall blocks Sharna's direct line of sight to the view of her hawk falling limp and motionless to the ground- but all the same she closes her eyes briefly and lets out a shuddering exhalation. The Thuvian woman's hands clench together tightly, and she offers a stiff nod to Alie at her sympathetic cry, as a wall of stone appears and interposes itself absolutely between her and Ra's small, fading life.
"Very well. We came in ill-prepared for Muzthari," the witch says in a grim, tightly-controlled tone. "And with little excuse for it, at that. There were other exits from that room, it seemed, on my brief glance-- a hall to the south? This battle is not yet done. Xiaobo, do you feel still affected by your affliction?"
(Looks like Xiaobo made his second save and is no longer taking the poison damage. If that is the case:)
She strides hurriedly to Xiaobo's side and touches him with a hand, easing some of his injuries.
Healing Hex on Xiaobo: 2d8 + 10 ⇒ (6, 1) + 10 = 17
"We must do something for Voros. Judging by how he run past us he may have been in the grip of supernatural fear. I cannot lift this, can anyone else?"
And then Sharna.... laughs a short, weird, bitter laugh.
Move to move to Xiaobo's side, standard to Healing Hex him, swift action via blouse to maintain Cackle (both Voros and Refen are still within 30' of me after Sharna's move) for the Fortune Hex.
Sharna adds on, "Noro seems in the grip of some delusion. I can try to dispel it but I am not certain it is a spell. Xiaobo, in my haversack there are two bottles with green stoppers. Find one and drink one."
GM: can Sharna make any KN check to know if Noro's condition is dispel-able? Xiaobo: if you follow Sharna's suggestion, these are potions of lesser restoration.
Pre-emptive spellcraft on Noro, ignore if not useful: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (16) + 19 = 35

Hearing Sharna, Voros nods and chooses to down another extract, waiting Sharna to move, as he knows how hexes work.
"Can anyone do something for Refen?" he asks.
Spider climb. Normally I would have gone to scout but I don't wanna go out of range from Sharna's cackle, so I'll wait one more round.

Alie materializes a two-inch thick wall of stone to repel the assailants, while Noro still fights an imaginary foe. Voros drinks an extract. Xiaobo and Sharna endeavor to cure Xiaobo's physical wounds.
For now your Con damage is still here. To sum up, with 5 Con damage you have -(2*HD) hp less, in your case 20 hp. That means that your max Hp is now 46 until the Con damage is healed. When healed the associated Hp return instantly.

Bite: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (6) + 12 = 181d8 + 13 ⇒ (5) + 13 = 18
Bite: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (9) + 12 = 211d8 + 13 ⇒ (3) + 13 = 16 Second 5-ft square of the wall destroyed, attacking Noro with the last attack.
Bite: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (11) + 12 = 231d8 + 13 ⇒ (1) + 13 = 14 Grab: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (9) + 22 = 31
Suddenly, the wall burst into pieces of rock where the doorway used to be, leaving enough room for one of the rose bushes to snap its deadly jaw at Noro, grabbing him in the attempt. The barbarian is drawn into the room, and crosses the dreadful gaze of the sahkil.
Noro takes 12d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 4, 4, 5, 2, 5, 5, 3, 5, 6, 1) = 48 magic damage from the forbiddance, Will DC 19 halves, then has to save against Muzthari's gaze (DC 25 Will, panicked 1 round then shaken 1d4 ⇒ 1 rounds thereafter if the save is failed, he's just shaken 1 round otherwise. Finally, he has to deal with the spell he's under, full-attacking "Tsuto" and then re-saving against the ongoing spell (don't forget that shaken imposes another -2 penalty).
From where he is, Voros sees that Muzthari's figure is blurry, but still threatening nonetheless.
Where the Wild Roses Grow - round 3
1. Muzthari (blur, 20% miss chance)
2. Refen (40, shaken 3 rounds)
3. Rose bushes
4. Alie, Voros, Xiaobo (2, 5 Con damage), Sharna & Ra (51 (-3), unconscious, stable, shaken 2 rounds), Noro (18 +48/24, 2 bleed, -2 Will and damage, grappled, panicked/shaken 1 round)
Don't forget to let me know during your turn if you avert gaze, close your eyes, or have them wide open. Your decision impacts not only on your turn, but the whole round. Of course you can change your decision on your turn next round.

![]() |

Noro would know better than me, but I think her CMD versus grapple is 33 according to her full sheet. Unless there's some penalty in play I'm not aware of. Should probably resolve that before anything else, since it's going to impact a lot of that turn (whether Noro crosses the barrier or not, etc.)
Sharna curses foully in Draconic as their rock barrier is shattered to smithereens. She calls on her arcane power to try and break the foul energies clouding Noro's mind.
Targeted dispel magic, specifically seeking to counter Oneiric Horror: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23
Sharna laughs shortly, the sound brittle with tension now. Cackle, maintain Voros and Refen's Fortune. She snaps her hand forward and a thin wand with an oily sheen drops into her palm. Swift action to draw wand of grease from spring-loaded wrist sheath
(It looks like I don't have line of sight to our gaze attack friend, so I assume I do not need to specify the gaze option, please correct me if I'm wrong)
eta Also, not sure if I'm currently threatened by the plant bushies-- there's cover, I think, so I don't think so-- but if so, I would certainly have tried to cast defensively:
Cast Defensively vc DC 21: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (6) + 16 = 22

As for your reaction for the gaze, you aren't in the range now but you might be later this round, hence my question.

Improved savage grapple, Noro get an AoO on the grapple attempts, also she is considered size large regarding what can grapple her (don't think that last part matters) If the AoO hits increase Noro's CMD by 2. that would boost her non-rage CMD to 35 (and yes my CMD vs grapple is 33)

The whole thread is there to read, but Refen (and my familiar) were the only ones to ever make it into the room, yo. Refen got hit with a fear effect and had to flee back out; Alie threw up wall of stone to give us some time, the rose bushes just shattered the wall of stone and attacked you and grappled/pulled you through it, except probably not with your CMD as it is. So you are probably still on this side of the wall; GM can confirm/etc as necessary.

Haha, sorry about the "he". Yes, with that CMD the grapple fails, so you weren't brought in the forbiddance effect, and as such you don't take the 12d6 damage. Yay for Noro! Actually, Sharna's action changes Noro's actions completely, so let's see it:
Noro is harshly bit, but manages to break away from the attempt to ensnare her before any harm is done. She attempts to strike back, but the plant proves far more resilient than Noro would have anticipated.
Xiaobo's heathy partly returns as he feels the warmth of the curative fluid down his throat.
Sharna focuses her thoughts and identifies the mind-warping effect that ails her barbarian companion. In a battle of the mind, she manages to unravel the oneiric horror, making Tsuto Kaijitsu return to the realm of the dead where he belongs... at least in Noro's eyes.
To sum up, Noro is completely free to act. She took the damage from the AoO, but the Grab failed, and the spell afflicting her is now gone. Since the spell was dispelled, it also means that Noro won't be fatigued when it ends. So you can completely retcon your action. Let's hope for better rolls!

AoO Bite @Voros: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (3) + 12 = 151d8 + 13 ⇒ (1) + 13 = 14 *miss*
Alie wards Noro against possession, while the barbarian deems it safer to step aside and not remain in Voros's line of fire. Dodging an incoming sudden strike from his intended target, the alchemist tosses three deadly bombs of green fire at the rose bushes, hoping to incinerate them. Three blasts echo through the dead walls of the long-forgotten mansion, and when the smoke clears, the white rose bush still stands, but is in a bad shape.
TBA = Targeted Bomb Admixture, right? It isn't listed in your buff spoiler, but I seem to recall you casted it recently. Just checking to know if I should roll Ref saves for the red roses bush or not.
Muzthari glares at the Pathfinders, and exits the room through the hole in the easter wall, but instantly disappears to reappear behind the Pathfinders in the very room they're in! "Black Queen to H4." she cackles manically as her gaze encounter yours.
Everyone except Refen is in the gaze range now. Alie and Sharna specifically told me they're averting their eyes, so they have a 50% chance (high is good for you) to avoid making that Will save. DC 25 Will save or be panicked for 1 round, then shaken for 1d4 round (roll it for yourself if you are affected please). If you succeed on your save, you are only shaken 1 round. Note that if Alie or Sharna don't have to make the save thanks to the miss chance, they aren't affected at all (so aren't shaken at all). If you're already shaken, remember its penalty to saves as well (-2).

just a question on this. if we are all looking toward the door, and the enemy with the gaze attack appears suddenly behind us, shouldn't we be auto averting as we were not even look in that direction to begin with and we were not expecting someone to appear behind us? maybe a perception to even realize that she appeared there?

Dude, welcome to high level play. But you're not going to get the option to leave, you're running away from Muzthari which means into the thorn bushes. Nothing stopped you from stating you were averting your gaze last turn as the GM asked people to state their option there, given the only other thing you did with your turn was a move action.

From Muzthari's position the choice you made is sound, Xiaobo. The panicked condition explicitly states "A panicked creature must drop anything it holds and flee at top speed from the source of its fear, as well as any other dangers it encounters, along a random path", so you won't enter the room with the forbiddance and the plant creatures as they represent a clear "other danger". However that move will happen after the plants have acted, on your turn.
Also remember that you're panicked for 1 round, the d4 is for the number of rounds you're shaken.

Woof.
Sharna gestures with the wand she drew a few seconds prior and says a short command word-- Voros suddenly finds his skin coated with a thick sheen. Then the Thuvian woman laughs, wearily, seeing possible death looming for her companions as well as her poor dear Ra.
She takes a short step away from the door of thorny death, continuing to avoid staring directly at their foe.
"Alie-- pull back if you can, that is a dangerous place."
Std: cast grease from wand on Voros, Voros, you've got a +10 on your cmd/escape artist, wish I could do more for ya. :( Your gaseous form might come in handy... but you're probably ahead of me there. ;) Move action to cackle, keeping the fortune on Voros and Refen, 5-ft step.

It should be noted that even if Voros makes his save, he will be at - 1 and unconscious if I counted correctly. If that's the case the creature will let go of the grapple with a free action. In both cases I'm not sure the grease will change anything, si if you want to change your action you may do so.

If Sharna reconsiders her action, Alie will take a 5' step south, and call out to her. "Grab ahold of me...we need to get out of here and regroup!". If Sharna reaches out to her, Alie will Dimension Door out to the path that the group saw as they came in.

Voros: If you make your Will save and are knocked unconscious, I'll need a stabilization check, please.
Sharna: Your targets need to remain within 30 ft, right? I believe Refen was farther than that, so I'm not sure he still is under your hex of fortune's effect (the last map revision of Nov 20th shows you way further away than 30 feet).

Thanks for the chance to recon, yeah, if Voros has dropped then I wouldn't grease him. The map I see when I click at the link of the top of the campaign is showing me Refen in the secret room with the fireplace, so I've been acting accordingly regarding my distance to Refen and keeping him within 30' on every round, since we started this battle. So far, heh. That's about to be a moot point!!
Seeing Voros go limp, Sharna hisses and steps closer to the doorway rather than away from it as she had originally planned to do. She reaches through the doorway to grab Voros's motionless body, bracing for possible pain. Gritting her teeth, the Thuvian witch simply hauls Voros backwards through the doorway.
5-ft step from my original position on the map (the little square), then use a standard action to reposition Voros's body back towards us if you'll allow that, since you said the rose bush let go of the grapple. That should mean that Alie can d-door the three of us, I think/hope. I don't know if this counts as 'breaching' the forbiddance effect since map-wise I'm not 'through' it, but my hands would presumably cross the line at some point. Also not sure if you actually need a reposition CMB since it's an unconscious ally, but if either of those rolls are necessary:
Sharna Will: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (1) + 12 = 13 (snort)
CMB? vs...?: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
(Still averting gaze if it matters. ...and since I didn't use my move action in there, welp, have that Cackle, Refen, if you are still within 30' since that seems up for debate. Alie, defensive casting that d-door? :P )

Actually there's a chance Voros might still be up and running: he has the spontaneous healing discovery, which will trigger automatically if he drops below 0, returning him to 4 hp total... which will unfortunately mean the plant won't let go of him. Let's wait until he comes back and can roll his save to see what happens.
