Xiaobo, don't move the enemies on the map, even with your maneuvers. You don't know if it succeeded or not. Use arrows instead. Secondly, you do know that Piranha Strike will give you the attack penalty on your CMB checks too, if they're in the same round, right? Your Trip roll should be 35, not 38. Lastly, your damage is also inconsistant with your character sheet or header (both mention +11 instead of +10). You really need to check the rules and apply them correctly, especially in a subtier 10-11 game.
As Sharna, Alie and Voros prepare for the fight to come, Refen ventures into the room and attacks, but misses the elusive maenad.
Xiaobo enters the room and throws one of the maenads to the ground, then proceeds to stomp her viciously twice. Noro uses the opportunity to pound the maenad more. Noro, you're entitled to an AoO thanks to Xiaobo's Greater Trip feat.
The maenads rush into combat with Xiaobo, while one of them weaves a spell to twist Noro's mind into attacking his allies.
Casting murderous command at Noro: Will save DC 18 or attack Alie.
Attacks against Xiaobo:
Bite: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 121d6 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11 If it hits, save vs Poison (Fort DC 21) or take 1d3 ⇒ 3 Con damage.

Noro: Actually the AoO happened before you acted, so without Combat Reflexes you can't do it. My bad.
The Noro, Xiaobo and Refen, magically helped by Sharna and Alie, smash the first maenad into oblivion. The three other maenads, their eyes wild with bloodlust mingled with fear, scream as they run away.
If you want to give chase we can continue and remain in initiative, otherwise we can end this combat. Your choice.

Voros, waiting to see the result, sees the creatures flee. He looks at the others.
"I think we should let them run away. They're not our target." he briefly says.

Sure, no problem to maintain the hexes via cackle, though without the fighting, that specific noise will be heard.
The door opens into a large ballroom. The fine wooden floor of this ballroom is now warped and cracked as the roots of a massive rose bush grow out from underneath. The thorny stems of the bush have pushed through the windows in the northern and eastern walls, as well, the glass long since broken. A waist-high marble pedestal stands near the center of the room. Next to it, a strange creature corresponding to the description of Muzthari is standing, studying a fist-sized gem. Thorny vines with tiny red flowers grow from this emaciated woman and flow like a train behind her. She takes a good look at you and sighs. "I suppose you're the ones causing all this ruckus. Have you come for this? No matter, you will perish anyway." Behind her, two massive rose bushes animate to defend their mistress.

Point of order (mainly Xiaobo this time). Don't open spoilers until your name is on it. Anything else may lead to metagaming, which isn't welcome at this table.
Noro, the heroism spell wasn't up when the spell was cast at you, so it's a failed save (15+5-2).
Alie helps Noro with a spell, albeit a split-second too late.
Refen flies to meet the humongous mass of roses in battle, but fails to land an efficient blow.

Voros shouts, alarmed: "Rose bushes! They'll try to engulf you and are resilient to acid! The sakhil is resilient to cold, electricity and sonic energies!"

Xiaobo, you drank one of Sharna's antitoxins back here. Have you been including that +5 on your rolls against the poison? And the con damage doesn't round at all, you're at whatever damage you've taken. The penalties come every two that you take.

ya that's what I meant. I know the dmg but I should have been more specific. I forgot I drank that. It is up to gm with the plus 5 I would have passed both original saves

Regarding poison, I'll include your bonuses in your latest saves (which still makes it a fail for the first one), but I won't retcon the earlier ones, it's far too late for that. You have to track the beneficial spells and effects you have (possibly create a section for that on your character sheet, that's what I do as a player). Hopefully you'll pass the save next round.
As Refen enters the room, he seems to writhe in pain.
The rose bushes move extremely slowly, yet they convey a sense of the inevitable, as haste won't matter in the long run. The white rose bush retaliates, taking four bites at Refen and trying to grab him in its potent plant jaws. Fortunately, the oracle is warded against the bush's deathly embrace. You have freedom of movement cast on yourself, correct?
Bite: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (19) + 12 = 311d8 + 13 ⇒ (5) + 13 = 18 *hit*
Bite: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (8) + 12 = 201d8 + 13 ⇒ (3) + 13 = 16 *miss*

Sorry to ask a nitpicky question, GM, but do you know of any ruling on what action it might be to get a familiar out of a familiar satchel (or if they can get out themselves)? I put Ra into the satchel before this fight, but my actions here may be contingent on what I can get done if I have him out. I did some poking but can't find anything in specific, so unless you rule otherwise or rule that the familiar can get out of the satchel themselves, I guess it's the default 'standard unless specified otherwise'.

![]() |

Will Save: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22
Refen would misfortune the critical threat, causing it just to be a hit. Refen has Freedom of Movement. With the passed save, I calculate 60 damage from that. Ouch! ;)
"Yeaouch! These things hurt!"

DM, how high is the ceiling in the room where all the action is taking place? I'm
Wondering if I could fly in there and be out of reach? Could Alie take a move action to peek into the room and get the ceiling height?

![]() |

It's a manor house, so ceilings are a bit higher that a normal house, but aren't especially high (think about 3 meters high). You typically can't fly out of reach of a medium-sized creature in here. You don't need an action to know that, the ceiling has the same height in the whole house except the entrance hall where the statues are

Sharna closes her eyes momentarily as she considers the situation: one ally crying of hard-hitting foes from within the room, another badly weakened by poison, and a third apparently striking at shadows. This all seems unfortunate.
"It would perhaps have been wise to notify us of your poisoned injury before we began this conflict," she says to Xiaobo. "Well, I suppose there is nothing for it now. Xiaobo, if you cannot throw off the poison yourself, then I will need you to come next to me, please."
Swift action: Cackle (normally a move, using Hag's Blouse to make it a swift). Move action: retrieve Ra from satchel. Standard: cast cure critical wounds, using Ra to deliver the spell. Ra is smitten by an invisible force, but flies onward into the room to reach the endangered voonith-shaped oracle. The bush made of white roses lashes out to prevent the hawk from ever reaching his companion.
AoO: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 281d8 + 13 ⇒ (3) + 13 = 16 *hit*
Thanks to the necromantic magic Sharna bestowed him with, the hawk survives long enough to deliver its curative energies to Refen, though it is in a dire shape now...
Muzthari cackles in utter delight as she beholds the unraveling of your threads of fate. One of her briar-covered hands is pointed at Refen, and suddenly four deadly thorns are shot at the voonith.
Thorn, shooting in melee: 1d20 + 23 - 4 ⇒ (3) + 23 - 4 = 221d4 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7 *miss*
Thorn, shooting in melee: 1d20 + 23 - 4 ⇒ (2) + 23 - 4 = 211d4 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9 *miss*

Thorn, shooting in melee: 1d20 + 23 - 4 ⇒ (10) + 23 - 4 = 291d4 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9 *hit*
Moreover, I'll need two DC 22 Fort saves against poison. 1d3 Wis damage (you can roll it yourself if you fail one of the saves; multiple doses don't stack since it's an injury poison), cure 2 consecutive saves.
Then she takes a step towards Refen and Ra, thus coming close enough for both of them to cross her dread gaze.
To be clear, Muzthari has a gaze attack. When you enter the room you have a choice (on your turn only, and your chosen option remains for the whole round):
- avert your eyes: gives you 50% chance to avoid her gaze but you take a 20% miss chance against your target.
- close your eyes completely/wear a blindfold/etc.: you don't cross her gaze but you take a 50% miss chance against your target.
- do nothing special: no miss chance for you, but you cross her gaze.
For percentile rolls, consider that rolling high is good. Thus, if you have 50% chance to avoid her gaze, you need to roll 51+ to avoid it. Any questions?
Also, everyone who enters the room please roll a Will save to hasten things up.
