GM Derek W |
Oh, it doesn't matter if you fight them. In fact, having played and Gm'ed this before, neither group fought these ladies or even met them. I'm just trying to use them creatively.
Heccan's inquiries result in him learning a nearly identical story from the second sister. Parani is clearly the big fish. But she's probably far too clever to walk into a trap...
Xavian Slingblade |
OK, so what do we do now? There must be a way we can find this Parani woman and capture her. These two have to be able to tell us where to find her.
Contilo FrostFoot |
In the words of Uncle Garry, "let us wander until our fate finds us." mind you uncle garry disappeared one day, and he aways said he would probably get eaten by an ice troll...
Contilo pauses a moment trying extremely hard to see if there is a correlation between uncle garry's disappearance and his famous qoute... after a brief pause contilo shrugs his shoulders.
lets go wander the market!
Justin Thyme |
See if we can 'hire' the gals to help us find and capture the main villain. I'll cough up the cash if one of you social-types can make a sense motive roll to verify that they won't change sides.
"Maybe we can hire them to help us catch the P lady"
Heccan Abraxi |
Heccan, satisfied the party has reliable information, returns the sister to the main group. I believe we have enough information now. This one has confirmed her sisters account. Let us finally find this elusive Greycoat. Oh, and ladies. You WILL help us. If not... He glances to Justin. Do I need to elaborate?
Heccan prepares to proceed to the market when the party is ready.
GM Derek W |
it's a bit late in the game, but can you all get your AC, save bonuses, Initiative, Perception and Sense Motive in your profiles? Add them on your character class line, please. For now, I'll call for rolls because looking up everything is kind of a pain on this computer.
The party makes their way back to the market, with Tersula and Durnil leading the way. They makes their way down a wide land, with high tents on both sides of the street.
Please roll Perception, and no peeking at the spoiler, please.
GM Derek W |
Thanks everyone for updating your profiles!
Kobad Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Tristan Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Xavian notices some movement on the top of one of the tents. Just enough that his reflexes take over.
Parani Initiative: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
Xavian Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Parani attack v. Tristan: 1d20 + 11 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 11 + 2 = 15
An arrow flies right at Tristan! It is expertly aimed, but was at too great a range, as it bounces off his armor.
With this, Tersula and Durnil both drop to the ground, cowering in fear.
Surprise Round:
Xavian <<
Initiatives:
Contilo: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
Kobad: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Justin: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Belvica: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Tristan: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Heccan: 1d20 ⇒ 11
Round 1:
Kobad <<
Parani
Xavian
Contilo
Heccan
Belvica
Tristan
Justin
Xavian and Kobad are up!
Xavian Slingblade |
Is there a current map around? I have no idea where she is.
GM Derek W |
Oh! sorry, I'll work on that and let you know when it's ready!
EDIT: New map is up.
Justin Thyme |
If the battle is not completely over by the time initiative works its way down to Justin, and there is not a baddie next to him, he will run over to P and try to smack it with Glados (assuming it will reach up to the top of the tent). If noone is in range, he'll chuk both of his chakram. Otherwise, he'll try to close with someone and attack with both swords.
I'd be more specific, but I seriously doubt anything I say now will really make any sense by the time initiative gets down to me :)
Xavian Slingblade |
Xavian will move up 20' (move action) and fire an arrow at the woman!
Bow, PBS: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 7 + 1 = 23
Arrow: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Contilo FrostFoot |
assuming it still makes sense.
Contilo will move behind justin, and blast his ray of frost at the bad girl - Parani.
Range Touch: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Damage: 1d3 ⇒ 2
DC 15 or be slowed.
GM Derek W |
Xavian's arrow gashes the woman's cheek, drawing blood.
Kobad hold his position, and quickly reviews the spells he has ready.
Parani curses between her teeth and lets fly a pair of arrows, aimed again at Tristan.
Rapid shot #1: 1d20 + 11 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (2) + 11 + 2 - 2 = 13
Rapid shot #2: 1d20 + 11 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (15) + 11 + 2 - 2 = 26
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
The first shot is ineffective, but the second hits Tristan squarely in the shoulder.
Contilo's ray misses the crafty woman, and Heccan activates his magical shield spell. He sees no signs of other attackers.
Round 1:
Kobad
Parani - 3 damage taken
Xavian <<
Contilo
Heccan
Belvica <<
Tristan <<
Justin <<
Parani is at the top of a 20' high tent. You cannot reach her with your normal melee weapons (an enlarged reach weapon would, though). The DC to climb the side of the tents is 15. You climb at half your base speed, so you'd either need to double-move or take two turns to get to the top. Each attempt requires a check, so to double-move roll climb twice. Bel and Justin may revise their action accordingly.
Kobad Miro |
Climbing is actually quarter speed! You can climb at half your speed, its called an accelerated climb, and there is a -5 penalty.
Kobad moves NE, NE, NE and glares evilly at Parani. (-2 AC, Will Save DC 14 makes this last for one round, otherwise it lasts for 6 rounds.)
Xavian Slingblade |
Xavian moves again, this time to the square that is two to the south of the evil woman. From there he will fire again!
Bow: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 7 + 1 = 28
Arrow: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Confirm?: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 7 + 1 = 14
Arrow: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (3, 3) + 2 = 8
GM Derek W |
Xavian's second shot catches the woman in the leg this time, causing her to hiss audibly.
After Contilo's ray misse and Heccan casts his spell, Belvica rushes forward and slams into the nearest tent-pole with her shoulder. The pole goes flying into the street behind! As Bel pauses for an instant to admire her handiwork, the tent and Parani collapse!
Belvica Ref save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Bel is unable to dodge out of the way,and both tent and woman land squarely on top of her!
Belvica is now entangled, blinded (tent in face), and prone. You can spend a full round action to free yourself without trouble, or a standard action to cut through the tent and then attempt to stand as a move action. I'd need an Acrobatics check, DC 10 to fight through the remnants of tent.
Parani lands on her back, and gets tangled in the tent.
Tristan and Justin rush over to defeat their foe before she can react.
Tristan: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Justin: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Tristan wounds her with a sword cut, but Justin hits only the tent, slashing a big cut in it.
Kobad casts his hex.
Parani Will Save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
She feels the effect of Kobad's Evil Eye!
Parani then frees herself from the tent and tries to stand, provoking attacks from Tristan and Justin.
Tristan: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Justin: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Despite all this, the two warriors cannot hit the agile female ranger!
Round 2:
Kobad
Parani - 17 damage taken
Xavian <<
Contilo <<
Heccan <<
Belvica <<
Tristan <<
Justin <<
Xavian Slingblade |
Where is everyone on the map now? I am hoping to be able to position myself for a flank so I can get sneak attack damage.
GM Derek W |
New map is up. Belvica, you can cut through the tent as a standard action, but attacking would require another standard, so that'll have to wait.
Tristan Zanderholm |
Dang, you guys are some posting fools...Last night I was way at the end of the order, and by now, I've missed two attacks.
As a swift action, Tristan will activate his Smite Evil ability which allows him to take a +2 to attacks and damage, and a +4 AC bonus against her attacks, if she is EVIL. This effect lasts until the evil target is dead.
Tristan roars in righteous indignation, and moves to attack the ranger with the inspiration of Iomedae in his mind, and extra power in his arm.
Tristan Longsword, Smite Evil,Power Attack: 1d20 + 7 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (18) + 7 + 2 - 1 = 26
Damage, Smite: 1d8 + 3 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 3 + 2 + 2 = 9
Justin Thyme |
Thanks for taking down the tent, Bel, great minds think alike! Too bad Justin melee's like a drunken peasant armed with a rotten banana.
Justin wants to continue melee, but with both of his swords. He probably would have been switching to them when he saw Bel take out the tent.
Long sword: ToHit: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15 Dmg: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Short sword: ToHit: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21 Dmg: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
GM Derek W |
Tristan and Justin sense they now have the upper hand, and move to end the fight.
Tristan's blow stikes with holy fury as he slices the evil woman. Justin rushes in, missing with his longsword, but gashing Parani with a wicked back-handed stab with the short sword. She falls to the ground, bleeding from her many wounds.
Xavian Slingblade |
I think we got her! Somebody make sure she'll survive though, I'm sure they want her alive. Bel, make sure she don't do anything tricky while we tend to her.
Tristan Zanderholm |
"Death is what this desecrating fiend deserves. Holy relics are not coins to be stolen and traded. They should be worshiped and revered. I will not bend a knee to help a sacrilegious infidel such as this. Let her blood stain the ground as a warning to others who would rob holy artifacts."
Tristan stomps away from the body, wiping the blood from his holy blade carefully before sliding it back into the scabbard.
Belvica Insnare'ba |
Mesa agressa wit Tristers... shesa musa die...
With the sun glistening in the late afternoon, Belvica the stout dwarfess reveals her waraxe to those in the crowd, she then with a mighty swing like a hot knife through salo, separated Parani's head from her body.
Coup' de Grace if necessary with her axe 3d10 + 12 ⇒ (9, 9, 2) + 12 = 32 and Belvica takes her head.
She then grabs the what used to be a woman's head by her braid and walks towards the Pathfinder lodge.
Any good gear?
Xavian Slingblade |
Or we can just bring her head. Whatever works. Xavian says with a shrug and a smile. Once the dwarfess has her prize in hand Xavian will simply follow the trail of blood the head leaves like morbid breadcrumbs toward the Lodge.
GM Derek W |
As the team returns to the Lodge, they encounter a large (12-15) force of armed men and women wearing gray cloaks. Their leader steps forward and introduces himself.
As he begins to speak, the words from Torch's letter echo in your minds:
The Pathfinders’ reputation with the Graycloaks is tenuous at best, so try to work with the Graycloaks and don’t leave a trail of bodies behind you.
The man says:
"I'm Captain Runewolf and I'm in charge here. What's the meaning of this?" he demands sternly, pointing at Parani's severed head.
"Parani was one of our best officers. Why did you kill her? And, by the way, this had better be very good."
You may now present specific pieces of evidence you found throughout your investigation. If you need to search up-thread, feel free. I have time ;)
Xavian Slingblade |
Xavian will point out the discovery of the warehouse and the footlocker within, in particular the client list that was found among the belongings. After he does that he'll step back out of the way, distancing himself a little from the sight of the blood-drenched head in Bel's hand and leaving the explaining to those with a more gifted talent of diplomacy.
GM Derek W |
Yes, you've got them!
The captain looks at the group suspiciously. He motions for a couple of guards to check out the warehouse.
He seems to consider Belvica's words for a few moments, then turns to the sisters who have been held by Justin and Tristan until now. They confess their part in the thefts, begging for leniency at their inevitable trials.
Eventually the guards return with the evidence from the warehouse. The witnesses you spoke with earlier all come forward and the pieces finally tie together.
Things get smoothed over quite a bit, but rumors of your group's actions spread around Absalom. The stories talk about how you jumped and killed a guard. They hear it was justified, but nevertheless the guards now have react to you with suspicion wherever you go.
You receive thanks with along with a short dressing-down from Ambrus Valsin upon your return to the Grand Lodge.
THE END!
There is actually an in-game mechanic for this on the chronicle you'll be getting. I have to follow it, unfortunately. Since you killed Parani, I also cannot award the second Prestige Point. Under the current rules the secondary success condition for this mission was capturing her alive. Still, I had had fun running this one guys! I hope you had fun too.
Xavian Slingblade |
Bah! I tried to take her alive! Oh well! LOL
Once again I enjoyed your game, Derek. When is the next one? :)
Ah, my PFS # 79644-5 (Sczarni)
Day Job (Thieves Guild, uses Sleight of Hand) : 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
Heccan Abraxi |
Tristan's right, you guys are super post fiends. Heccan is late to the party, but I am glad you guys finished off the baddy. I am sure Heccan could have talked Ambrus into giving up that PP. I am not sure that the beheading was worth the PP, but Bel taking out the tent certainly was, total baller move. Also fun to see Tristan and Justin finally get a chance to let loose. Great game guys, and great DMing again Derek. Once again, I would be down for another game. For the chronicle sheet, I would like to swap out a spell (charm person for color spray as I think it its better thematically with Heccan's build) which I believe I am allowed to do before levelling to first. In any event, great games guys, it was a blast to game with you all and look forward to the next mission.
Day Job: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
