Walter sifts through the filth magically and finds nothing but more filth. The bodies in the vats do not move, but Valais is noticeably discomforted around them. The doors leading east and west await...

Johann looks a little green around the gills from the stench of rotting flesh.
If there's nothing here, let's move on. Ugh, what a reek!"
Basalte
|
"We go west." suggests Basalte, rough and firm in his voice.

Walter taps every one on the should, granting them Abadar's Guidance.

He then flexes his hands on his longspear, scouting slightly ahead.

The party enters the room to the west. This room is a madman’s abattoir. Near the center of the room stands a polished metal table with manacles bolted to each of its corners and a bloodstained hacksaw embedded in its side.
The floor has accumulated years of spattered blood and other fluids, creating a somewhat gummy surface up to an inch thick in places. As the team opens the door into this room, the vermin from the first room gradually begin spreading throughout this room as well.
A wooden workshop bench rests against the east wall, covered with tools of varying sizes, a spool of barbed wire, a stack of large metal staples, and a stack of notes, and even more grisly tools hang from hooks on the wall like pots and pans in a well-stocked kitchen. Reddish-brown splotches cover the floor.
On the table, a partially clothed male elf with a distended
belly is sprawled on his back as he quietly moans in agony, his
arms bound by the table’s manacles.
Heal checks to learn about the elf's condition!

Seeing the stricken elf, Johann runs in, ignoring the icky squish of the floor and examining the poor creature.
By the way, Johann has the infusion discovery and would have handed out shield extracts to Walter and Basalte, or Tyraneus if either of Walter or Basalte decline the extract.

Heal: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Intrigued by the elf, Basalte approaches to study the body.
Basalte gladly accepts the infusion, thanks. But I don't think you can make an infusion of a spell with a range of Personal, just like a potion. I might be wrong, though.
Johann Erlenmeyer
|
You can, actually, and an FAQ has been published saying this is the intended interpretation of the rules. One of the benefits of an alchemist, offset by a limited spell list.

That's excellent news! My alchemist will be grateful for that, thanks for the info!

He shakes his head as he scans the room with Abadar's sight.

"Welcome in my world big boy. You now know how I feel when I think we can just bluff our way through and you come barging in with steel out."
she smiles
"Although that steel is appreciated when my bluff goes awry"
she then moves into the room and helps Johann with the elf

Gunther thumps Walter on the shoulder in a friendly gesture.
"Let the others exercise their wits," he comments with a smile. "As long as someone's not trying to kill us, it's a good day, eh?"
He looks around the room grimly. "Soon enough, we'll have our jobs to do, I'm guessin'."
Johann Erlenmeyer
|
Oh, I forgot Gunther was there. OK, Johann would have made up a third shield extract and given him one too. You really need to do something to boost that AC, Gunther.
| GM Derek W |
Johann, Basalts, Tyraneus, and Dimitra approach, but do not notice the hazard.
DC was 20, best was an 18 by Johann with aid.
The elf's abdomen bursts open as soon as Johann gets close, releasing a cloud of spores and sending bits of viscera flying across the room! Dozens of wormlike tentacles burst forth, but do not immediately harm anyone.

[ooc]I need a Will Save and a Fort Save from each examiner. Walter and Gunther stayed back enough to avoid. Will save DC is 16 to halve the above rolled damage. Well see on the Fort. And this was a hazard, not a creature, so no init.[ooc]

"Thanks Dimitra. You are kind." says the oread with a rasping voice. "I'm pretty sure this infested body would prove to be incriminating for Thurl, but I'm not sure that will be enough to convince the Decemvirate. We should press on." He searches the room with a cursory glance, then nods at Walter.
To the next room?
| GM Derek W |
Basalte, Johann, and Tyraneus all feel sick, bit nothing happens yet.
After the elf corpse is destroyed, there is nothing of further note or value in this room. Another door to the west leads to a very cold room, one kept at a temperature just above freezing.
Inside are an array of containers holding body parts of every description. It is obvious to even the untrained eye that many of these are demonic.

Gunther identifies the wand as that of sleet storm. It is only partially charged.
Satisfied that nothing of further use in the investigation lies here, the team heads back to the east.
Passing through the chamber with the 2 vats, the group goes through the next door. It opens into a hallway that turns south just a short distance ahead.
The hall ends at a "T" intersection, with halls leading both east and west.
Basalte
|
Basalte follows Walter from a distance, blade in hand, awaiting the half-orc's nod before coming too close with his clunky armor.
| GM Derek W |
Walter's keen eyes detect nothing troubling down either of the tunnels, at least before each branch bends again...
I'll get a map up ASAP. Probably tonight. But go ahead and pick a direction.
| GM Derek W |
Map links abound! Please tell me if they work or not.
Walter peers east, seeing fewer tracks. Still, the freshest set leads this way. The hall ends with a set of stairs that are covered in water at the bottom.
The greatest number of tracks lie to the west, the passage leading into another room.
All tracks are quite old, months even.
Basalte
|
"If the tracks are fresher to the east, we go east." states the oread in a matter-of-fact tone. He'll lead the way.
The maps work perfectly!
Tyraneus
|
Tyraneus follows the rest of the party. Do you recognize the tracks?
| GM Derek W |
The tracks looks to be the right size and shape for a dwarf. Basalte leads the way to the next room.
Stairs descend from the west into this flooded chamber. Stagnant water opaque with grime and scum fills the chamber, which is featureless but for a rusting metal door to the north and several eroded runes near the waterline.
Valais remembers hesitating as to whether to try escaping through the water or leave via the incubation chamber, and she avoided the water because something did not seem right about its smell.
Perception checks please!
