Thistle notices Bruce staring at the ticking heart, inspecting it. He smiles a little. The man is so knowledgeable and curious. He can surely figure anything out that they might come across.

Just look at the way he is studying it. It is a curious device.

Completely oblivious to the internal force of wills between the device and his caped crusader friend, Thistle turns back to pay attention to the statues.

Uh oh... 17 feels like its right on that line of "whew" and "oh s$&%!"

The compulsion is to much for Bruce to resist, and he heaves the heart to his chest. It pulses briefly, thumping and grinding on as it happens, then phases into the chest of the caped man. The process is painless, but dramatic. Swiftly, the mechanical heart replaces the original organic version inside Bruce's chest, dissolving the muscle tissue and replacing it with metal. When the flash is over, Bruce thorax closes by itself again, and the chipping and whirring can be heard faintly from behind the ribs.

Immediately effect is a +4 enhancement bonus to constitution. The doctor just smiled menacingly when I asked him about the side effects.

Uh...wow. That would have been a nice upgrade for Jelani, too. Though we have yet to see what these side effects are. Please ask your doctor before using mechanical heart. May cause crying, screaming, projectile vomiting, amnesia, spine loss, embarrassing accidents, uncontrollable gas, and explosive diarrhea.

I had rolled above to try to ID this item, but hadn't seen anything back. Did my 37 spellcraft reveal anything about it before Bruce incorporated it into his being?

Bruce looks down a bit confused about what just happened. "Not entirely sure why I did that," he says as he raps a knuckle against his hollow chest. "It doesn't appear to have hurt me, but best keep an eye on me for strange behavior."

Thistle's eyes go wide at the gruesome display, which coalesces into something that appears back to normal. Rushing over to him, Thistle runs his hands over the man's neck and chest, looking for a wound to heal.

Eventually, he looks up in confusion, wondering if Bruce wants him to do... something, unsure what he could do.

"What if the last man to do what you just did, turned into what we just destroyed? " he asks, fear in his odd sounding voice.

gotta admit, that's pretty sweet! (So far anyways...)

Caranthir could catch a basic glimpse from the heart, and confirms the stamina boost the mechanical contraption gives. He also conveys the bad news: Bruce's original heart is most likely no longer there.

Thistle paws at Bruce a little more, concern etched on his face until the man waves him off. With a grunt, the Nagaji looks to the valuable pouch of diamond dust in his pack. The worry comes back even more as he looks at the pile.

Would that spell even be enough? How can a man live without his heart?

One last concerned glance back at the leviathan they just destroyed, and Thistle follows his friends through the eastern door.

Apart from the chanting emerging from the other side of the door, Bruce finds no particularities on the doors. It opens to a dimly lit room.

Six stone pews crowd a dimly lit chapel. At the north end of the room, a flight of seven slim stairs leads up to a stage. A massive curtain of thick black fabric completely obscures the north wall beyond the stage area. Two different sets of double doors dominate the chapel’s southern wall.

There are a dozen knights here, sitting upon the pews. Four of them have green pieces of crystal - not unlike the emerald spire - embedded in them. It is these knights that move into motion to defend the chapel.

Would like to imbue an arrow with Dragon's Breath and use a type of energy they are not immune to (or particularly if they are vulnerable. It looks like a cone template could hit all of them.

uh oh... Thistle sees his hard hearted friend get suddenly surrounded by the chapel defenders and take a bevy of brutal attacks as a result. In practiced form, Thistle moves up behind him and places a scaled hand on his shoulder, infusing a jolt of divine energy into him, stitching up several of the grievous wounds.

Thistle brushes the dust off of his tunic and supervises Bruce's healing. He looks around to make sure everyone else is in tip-top shape before moving on, a practiced routine born from the many days toiling deeper into this underground anomaly.

I think Jelani is the only other one to have damage, make sure you roll to heal back up.

With the menials taken care of, he checks his armor straps and hoists his shield before following the caped man down the hallway.
