Smiley bangs louder.
THUNKTHUNKTHUNKTHUNK
Ho, there! Anyone home?

![]() |

@Smiley Ayo's already got her eyes on someone, and Smiley isn't her type in multiple respects ;)
The GM had you marked as down 7 HP, so it looked like you needed healing
Ayo takes up position outside the window with the view of the gnome leafing through books. She knocks on the window and waves at him in hopes of grabbing his attention. She finally begins shouting into window, exaggerating her enunciation to make it easier on him to read her lips if he can't hear her.
"GNOME. WE WISH TO SPEAK WITH YOU."

Not only vision impaired, but also in need of good locks. It takes a moment or two, but before long Nigel has opened the door.
A large sofa sits awkwardly near the entrance, facing toward the center of the room. Sets of chairs and tables are arranged throughout, and statues of grandiose gnomes occupy the corners of the room. A set of stairs at the northern edge of the chamber leads down. A second set of stairs leads up.

![]() |

Opposites attract, Dollface. You'll come around.
Smiley moves into the room and approaches the door to the study.
Pull up yer britches and stop scratching yer itches, Smiley Stonegirdle is comin' in!
He moves to open the door.
He will open the door if nobody stops him.

Khāṇa wastes no time in entering and looking around.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Do I smell anything interesting?

![]() |

Brimstone. Khana smells brimstone.
It must be coming from those horrible large beetles that just appeared in the middle of the room.

Nigel steps forward, and takes a stab at the yellow beetle with his long spear...

Under the combined assault the third of the beetles turns to foul smelling brimstone and returns to its infernal home.
The house of Fimbrik is again quiet.

![]() |

Smiley moves to open the door to the study.

![]() |

This study contains a round table surrounded by chairs, and the walls are replete with tome-laden bookshelves.
A gnome wanders the shelves, pulling out books from time to time. He does not appear to have noticed Smiley.

![]() |

Smiley moves into the study and tries to get the gnome's attention.
Ho! Har! You there!
If unsuccessful, he will move to touch the gnome on the shoulder.

![]() |

Did I get anything out of my Perception result of 19 earlier?
"Smiley. That's an illusion. Nobody's home."
"Anymore."

![]() |

Ayo will go over to the double doors on the west side of building--far away from the dwarf--and into the room beyond, searching for anything of note that might relate to the disappearance of the owner or the contents of the letter.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18

"Now's not the time to slip inta somethin' more slinky, Dollface. Yer pretty just as ye are!"
I figured out the illusions long ago, but Smiley's still not sure.

Khava notices there is a lack of dust on any surfaces. The carpet and sofa show virtually no wear, and the tables and clear.
Ayo checks out the bedroom. It is empty of items of interest. Unless she has a thing for rather out of fashion gnomish underwear.
In the study, Smiley is ignored by the gnome, and eventually puts his hand through him.
Arrghhhh it's a ghost gnome!
Or maybe an illusion, up to you to decide really.

![]() |

"This doesn't make sense. This home has been vacant for some time, but where's the dust? The carpet and sofa are like new...it's like this house was barely ever lived in to begin with!"
She moves on to the remaining room.
Perception in D2: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13

![]() |

Smiley studies the illusory gnome for a while, then steps inside it to mimic its movements.
Har! Look at me! I'm a gnome now. I'm readin' a book! Now I'm walkin'! Hoo-ha!
After (presumably) the uncontrolled laughter dies down (it might take a few minutes for such a funny joke), Smiley wanders over to the remaining door.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19

![]() |

Smiley is indeed lucky that the figure appears to be a very benign ghost, if indeed ghost it is.
The forth room is the ornate meeting room. There is no sign of the gnome in here at the moment.
This chamber contains enough chairs, pillows, and desks to accommodate at least six visitors. An examination of the table in the southwest corner reveals a neatly penned letter (linked above).
A gnome (quickly established to also be either a ghost or an illusion)
Underneath the letter is a hastily scrawled note in similar handwriting, which contains the name "Hollis
Looking around, Khana spots a couple of potion bottles on the windowsill in front of the curtain.

Bletch, poison, for sure.
Nahh, just kidding.
But they do taste bad. Khana can't identify either of them.

You see it was the second layer in the potion that was the poison, not the first!
Or maybe it was a potion of cure moderate wounds. That second tasted even worse. Smiley instantly recognises lesser restoration. Just what you need after a hard night on the turps.

Sorry, busy weekend
Ayo folds her arms. She scans the room slowly, deliberately, making sure that nothing jumps out to her as something important. Satisfied that there is nothing, she moves for the door.
"I approve of this course of action, Nigel."

![]() |

Ilsensine examines the letter and notes they have found.
"Clearly the gnome has not been here in quite some time," she says. "I concur that we should visit the cemetery next," she adds.

![]() |

It is a wet, cold and depressing afternoon.
After the relative warmth of Frimbrik's house, the thought of another slog through the streets of Absalom to a depressing place like a graveyard is hardly uplifting.
Feel free to all make a fort save for me, include bonuses against disease or endurance
The cemetery is attached to a small church to asmodeus.
The main gates stand open, and a solitary figure can be seen walking among the gravestones.

![]() |

Fortitude Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Ayo powers through the rain, remaining stoic like a statue throughout the party's journey through it.
"Indeed, Nigel. I prefer to have Shizuru's Sun shining upon me."

![]() |

"Aahhhh tissue."
Water starts to seep through even your supposedly water proof cloaks. Guess there is nobody in Absalom who gives money back guarantees on them.
