"We should try to *cough* procure a few of those *cough* masks. It may require disabling a few *cough* of those workers. What do you all think?"

Gravleon looks at the elf "are you OK we are not inside yet and it's already getting you...well we will Ned those mask but how do we get them and not set everything to panic..."

"I could try to put some of them to sleep, but they will notice us and I'm pretty sure I won't get them all."

The vats weren't meant to be this much of an obstacle, and the workers are only CR 1 each. So, I'm going to hand-wave some of this.
The party wraps their faces in makeshift masks and sneaks in. They indentify the workers as mongrelmen. You know that despite their monstrous appearances, mongrelmen are generally hardworking and peaceful creatures--easily enslaved and generally compliant.
I'm going to say that, given your relative level disparity, you can avoid being detected by the mongrelmen, if you so wish. If you want to interact with them, that's your prerogative.

I, too, would rather bypass them.

Up to the balcony, then?
The first room you come to has nobody in it. (Room E5) This room overlooks the courtyard and has a retractable timber and iron crane to lower goods into wagons below through a sliding wooden door. Presently the room has only a few wooden cases in it.
Among the empty boxes in this room are cases containing 12 vials of acid, five tanglefoot bags, and three thunderstones, all packed in straw.
Blackheath

"Shall we enter and see who waits for us?"
GM Engleaktig
|
The party opens the door. As much an abattoir as a bedchamber, this room contains not only a four-poster bed, but also numerous workbenches and alchemical gear. The walls are lined with shelves and strange- looking objects in jars of liquid. Bits of rags litter the floor, and the air is heavy with the stench of spoiled food mixed with acrid chemicals. A ladder leads to a trapdoor in the ceiling.
There is a small humanoid in here. You recognize it as a Dark Creeper. As you open the door, he snarls and reaches for a blade coated with something wet...
You surprised him. The party is up first!

Blackheath strikes at the dark creeper with his longsword...
arcanne infused 2-handed longsword strike: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
damage: 1d8 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 3 + 1 = 8
Roll to confirm crit: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
potential extra crit damage: 1d8 ⇒ 3
| Sharien Oakfoot |
Seeing the creature reach for a weapon, Sharien hurls a glob of slippery grease at the weapon.
Casting grease on the weapon to keep him from using it. He can make a DC 16 Reflex save to hold onto it, otherwise he'll drop it.

Dark Creeper Reflex Save: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27
Gravleon delays. (It's a small room.)
__________
The dark creeper successfully picks up his handaxe and swings at Grog:
mwk handaxe: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26, Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
__________
The half-orc can feel poison seeping into his wound, and he is unable to resist it. He feels a little bit weaker, but the handaxe also no longer as poison along its blade!
Grog Fort: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
STR damage: 1d2 ⇒ 2

The half-orc can feel poison seeping into his wound, and he is unable to resist it. He feels a little bit weaker, but the handaxe also no longer as poison along its blade!
Before the poison can settle in, Grog digs deep into his inner reserves of fortitude. Like Chuck Norris flexing his awesomeness, Grog flexes the muscles around the wound--not allowing it to seep into his tissues. And then the half-orc spits the poison out!
Blackheath, Gravleon, and Sharien are up!

Crit?: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
| Sharien Oakfoot |
Sharien will cast a simple acid dart at the creeper, as she does not have many offensive options left for today.
ranged touch: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
acid: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

The dark creeper, though significantly injured, still stands. He manages to keep a hole of his axe and strike Grog for 5 HP of damage!
Reflex Save to hold onto the greased handaxe: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21
Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23, Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

"I don't know what that creature was, but he exploded in a flash of light. Can't be a good sign..."
Sharien checks out the alchemy lab and looks at the gold key in the jar. Does it look like it might work in anything we've seen?
| Sharien Oakfoot |
"There seems to be a lockbox there. Can someone inspect it for me, before I open it and it blows up or something horrible like that?"
She will detect magic on it.
Blackheath

"I'll take a look at it too."

The chest contains 200 gp, four vials of antitoxin, and a small purple velvet purse containing 4 small, cloudy diamonds worth 300 gp each.
You wonder why this creature was here. Dark creepers lurk in the black places deep below the surface of the world, venturing forth at night or into neighboring societies only when the urge to steal and cause mayhem grows too great to resist.
Blackheath

Blackheath listens at the door before trying to open it...
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15

Hmmm, I don't think I can pop that even if I take 20. Suggestions from the group? Do we want to kick it down or do we have a spell?
Blackheath casts Detect Secret Doors, just to be extra cautious.
Duration 2 minutes.

Grog can smash it, if the party wants to do that?
Looks like we might have to.
