Man, I was so hoping you would just blast the guard before they had the opportunity to call out.

NEW Init:

Group 1
Monk 2 (21)
Arovandeon (20)
Kanye (20)
Grundle (20)

Group 2
Evigail (13)
Danyn (12)
Guard 4 (10)
Guard 1 (9)
Monk 1 (8)

Group 3
Kort (7)
Hagrym (6)
Guard 2 (3)
Guard 3 (3)

Evigail prepares to blast the guard if they call out, which is of course what they do, "Zhrtei!", while pointing down at Evigail. The other guards whirl around, now at full alert, but unable to see an enemy. Evigail lets his windblast go, but it was not enough to cause the man to tumble to his "good-nights'-sleep" falling off the wall would have certainly brought him, perhaps on he permanent side.

Shortly after that, one of the other guards begins to move around, and pulls out a bow while jogging across the outer wall. They quickly spot Kanye and Hagrym, and get ready to take a shot.

Hagrym, not wanting to see if the guards have better luck with their arrows than he has with his bolts, runs inside the building, getting ready to help dispatch the other threat going on within, if needed.

Need another action from Kort, and then the rest of Group 3 (NPC's) will go, and then back to Group 1.

Kanye takes cover in the doorway in front of the ladder, and thinks himself safe from any arrows.

Shadow Lodge

Kort concentrates to keep up the illusion as outside the remaining two archers move closer to their targets and also arm themselves with short bows. Guard #3 notices the newly formed Wall of Stone and points it out to #4, but both are more interested at the moment on Evigail, Grundle, and Kanye.

TWF Flail 2 Attack: 1d20 ⇒ 19

Grundle sighs and swings his first flail through the air...missing his target. But he squints and follows through the momentum to bring his second flail crashing down...

Technically, I think Arrovandeon would go before me...so if you'll allow it...

Grundle makes a last second twitch and the flail head cracks into the stone beside the guard.

It's ok. I'm just roleplaying the situation. Not sure if it's possible to stop Grundle.

I thought you where going back outside to help Evigail, but that's fine. Yes, you MAY use your rolls from the Discussion thread, they where supposed to be your next attack after all. As far as stopping and switching actions, sure if you want to, I will allow it, but there might be a hidden cost for doing it as you storm in and are obviously looking aggressive and ready to kill, (almost as if the voices where getting to you. . .). And yes, Arovandeon who is talking to one of the monks in a foreign tongue does go before you and if he attempts to stop you, then I'm fine with that. Or let the blood fall, you know, which ever. :)

Spoiler:
Notice I didn't exactly mention whoseblood would be falling. . .

So far they are while you are talking. I didn't want to get too much further into the conversation earlier so that other people could act, but by all means continue if you want. I had forgotten you had said this last part, honestly.

Arovandeon Isero wrote:

Your last comment:
"We do not want trouble. I would prefer diplomacy."

Diplomacy = 24

It will take a bit more time for the Diplomacy to be effective, in addition to not beginning a combat with the Monks, but that's a really good start.

They reply:
"We will hear your words, outlanders. You likely seek the demon below, who has brought further dishonor to our door."

Monks reply:
"We do not, nor are we "their men". You would not know of such things, but our Order has fallen from favor and a place of honor. We where promised that in time, he would help us to regain our lost glory, to return students to our schools. . ."

The other Monk, who has remained silent until now, but remaining defensive and looking coldly from his ally to the party begins to shift, slowly walking towards the other monk. and cuts him off in midsentence,
Other Monk:
"Our dishonor is not for their ears, not are we sure he has lied to us. You should not speak of such things so freely."

Arovandeon:
I would probably go with History or Local, (religion or Nobility might also work) for this one. One small point, I am kind of making a few things up, as there is only a few lines about them here, but it shouldn't be anything outside of the scope of the scenario, nor should it have any implications on the game. It is commonly believed that of all animals, felines are the only ones capable of such human motivations such as cruelty or killing for sport. The Monks of the Tiger's Eye had been an eminent order in the area, having won a local tournament hosted by multiple important schools in the area known as the Challenge of Sky and Heaven. In their proud history, the Monk's of the Tiger's Eye had won more often than they had lost. No one could argue their talent across all boards, but the Monk's of the Tiger's Eye instructed students with a viciousness most others found undesirable, (think the Cobras from Karate Kid), and eventually forbad their brutality for a time. They lost many students, and after years, the ban was lifted. However, few remained that where able to train, and fewer new students knew of or where willing to join, other schools having attained new glory and prestige in that time. Like the dark attributes some ascribe to felines, the Monk's of the Tiger's Eye teach to strike quickly, eradicating threats completely rather than allowing them to return later. They have a reputation (well earned) for using techniques aimed to kill or cripple when others would not view them as reasonably needed. Like most Monks, they do live by strict codes, traditions, honesty, honor, and discipline, but have no qualms about killing.

GM:
Understood. Many scenarios go light on certain details such as in this case. Still, it's nice to have some ground on which to understand a potential foe and roleplay a bit. I really only have one more thing to say, so let me know when Arovandeon can continue the dialogue with the monks.

Grundle flashes a toothy and wicked grin. He grips his flails and charges forward at the guard coming around the corner.

He whips a flail up, spins it up and around his head, and brings it screaming down at the guard...

Charging Flail: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 4 + 2 = 12
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

Sigh.

You already have attack rolls in waiting, just waiting for a target. . .

Shadow Lodge

||CORE Rotating DM ||Fingerprints||King Xeros ||Serpent's Skull||

Grundle's Charge doesn't completely drop the guard, but she is not looking good after that hit, and might not be getting any dates any time soon with the way her jaw is just kind of hangin' there.

For the moment, to move things along, I will have Danyn Ready an action to attack if the Monks betray the party in the negotiations, and let him retcon an action in later if desired.

Almost simultaneously, the two guards on the walls near Grundle and Evigail knock some arrows and let them fly, one towards Evigail and the other towards Grundle.

Shortbow vs Evigail (17): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21 (OUCH, that's a nasty HIT)
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

Shortbow vs Evigail (15): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14 (miss, but not by much)
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

Inside, the Monk comments, "

Spoiler:
It seems your allies outside have made friends.

The monks are answering, I'm just trying to keep it mostly in the init order, and it is primarily Monk #2 that is speaking. I'm doing that, because I don't want events inside to get too far ahead of those outside, even though you can speak out of turn.

<EDIT> and I see that my post a few days ago seems to have gotten eaten. <head drops> That seems to be happening a lot lately, as I have been posting from my phone a bit more often. I'll retype their response again in a little bit.
