Feel free to introduce yourselves a bit more.
Something for you all to consider before we start the campaign proper:
- Is your character a native of Kintargo? If not, how did they come to be here?
- Does your character know any of the other player characters? If so, how?
- How would you describe your character?
- How would your character describe themselves? (Remember these two things can be very different).

Hullo, I'll be playing your vengeful inquisitor. I have a sheet here.
My Character is a native of Nex, not Kintargo. He was one of two apprentices that survived a run-in with a vampire that their master did not. The church of pharasma has decided that it's not worth the cost of shipping me back home, but has instead encouraged me to undertake work to support myself and the church as an undead hunter. I'm mostly looking for work that can use my particular talents and hoping to do some good for the church along the way.
I probably don't know anyone deeply, but might have met someone while sitting at a tavern or on a joint clear-the-cellar-of-vermin style jaunt.
Donal is a large, imposing Half-Orc with the battleworn features one often expects from his kind. He wears the black robes of his office over his armor, however, with the symbol of Phrasma (a spiral) on it's back. His belts are festooned with the tools of his trade, (holy water, manacles, etc.) and a spiked chain if usually wrapped around one arm. He is a depp believer in Pharasma's tenants and considers it his holy duty to ensure the dead stay dead. Donal knows enough to be pragmatic, but doesn't see much outside of his job worth worrying about.
Donal is a typical half-orc insofar much that he has been raised with little opportunity for social development. Spending most of his formative years with a cranky undead hunter didn't improve things much. His attempts at humor or conversation outside of his fields come across as forced and he doesn't get all the social cues that might be expected of him. He has a bit of a chip on his shoulder as he isn't terribly certain if the church really expects to become a master inquisitor out here or just didn't feel he ewas worth the cost of shipping back to Nex.

Alina Dereni |

Hi! I'm your Magus who's not a native of Kintargo... but may as well have been. Alina's parents cavorted with demons, and were exiled; afterward, they opened a library in Kintargo. Alina, however, didn't much like their beliefs as she grew up. She's sympathized with the rebels for a time now.
She might know characters -- I'm fine if she met them in a previous little jaunt, and she ran messages for people. She also could have met them in a tavern. Her parents also own a library; she may have met them there.
Alina is a confident, black-haired young human of eighteen. She's a little short, and she wears lamellar armor dyed red with black lining most of the time. She has a long sword.
She debates on names for it, sometimes. In the future, she'll be a Blackblade -- IE, when she hits level 3.

Oskar Gorunn |

Good Day, Oskar Gorunn, Cleric of Milani at your service.
Oskar is a native of Kintargo and was at one time studying to be a novice at the temple of Asmodeus. They told him he would learn about the law, about how things work. He learned more than that when Thrune and the Clerics of Asmodeus wrongfully imprisoned and executed his parents. Oskar successfully left the church, not exactly a safe thing to attempt, and makes his living working in a small tavern near Veritas plaza.
He may have seen the other characters in the tavern he works in from time to time, may have even spoken with them or given them a drink, but he keeps his faith to himself because it is outlawed to follow Milani.
Oskar He serves Milani by offering hope and confidence to the tavern's patrons. Oskar has mild anger issues and found that he can identify people's insecurities and use them to instigate arguments and bar brawls. When he learned to calm his temper and listen he learned that people like to open up to him and tell him their secrets. Certain people in the underground noticed this and have hired Oskar to settle small disputes among the city's gangs. Through these contacts he met a follower of Milani who taught him a new source of hope to challenge the Asmodean establishment and House Thrune. Oskar likes a good bar brawl or riot. Oskar is a good person who helps his friends and likes to see them safe.
Oskar feels that his task in life is to help and support others. Life in Kintargo has carved the optimism of youth out of him, but he still sees himself as a good person and will help others when he feels it is safe and practical.

Renvil Ratarion |

Hi all!
I am Renvil Ratarion, a native of Kintargo. Renvil is a local playwright who was just starting to get significant attention in the arts community when martial law was imposed and his main venue (the Opera House) was closed. Renvil's plays tend to be satirical and poke fun at the ruling class, though he's been pretty good about not drawing too much negative attention. Renvil is also a passable songwriter, with another local songwriting partner who writes the music.
I'm not certain if Renvil knows any other characters yet. Being very active in the local arts community, he may be recognized if other characters have attended plays at the Opera House. He had a good busking career--primarily as a songwriter--before that; he could also be recognized from that. I see a possible connection to Alina: Renvil may have frequented her parent's library; playwriting requires research. Renvil definitely taught himself Infernal to include that in his plays, and also researched much of the ruling families (Thrunes, etc.) to poke fun at them. We could have met in the library. Also, a possible connection to Oskar: Renvil frequented a music store (The Silver Star, if I recall from the Player's Guide) before it got raided; if memory serves, it was raided for being a Milani hideout, so that connection is possible as well.
Renvil is typically fun-loving, and has a sharp, sarcastic wit. He has an average appearance that leans into good-looking. He dresses as well as his budget allows, and that fluctuates greatly. As the Opera House has been closed recently, his personal style is starting to look a little out of date. I don't think he realizes this yet, as his life has been going pretty well up until now, but he harbors a great distrust for the rulers of Cheliax. He loves his city, and would never want to leave, but often imagines what it would be like if this exceptional arts community were in a free nation instead of where it is.

Henry Ravenheart |

- Is your character a native of Kintargo? If not, how did they come to be here?
Henry Ravenheart is a lifelong native of Andoran, spending his recent years in Augustana. Commissioned by a trade director working under Aylsande Benedict, with generous funding supplied by the lumber consortium, Henry was sent to Kintargo to investigate why recent shipments of lumber and bills of sale have gone missing.
- Does your character know any of the other player characters? If so, how?
It’s unlikely Henry has met the other characters unless their names have appeared on bills of sale or other multi-national trade statements. However, because of the high influence that nobility has during this time period, in both Cheliax and Andoran, it is possible Henry has interacted with Alina Dereni in the exchange of messages among the two nations. Though Henry is not particularly sociable with work hours that often conflict with tavern-going, it’s possible Henry has interacted with the others, particularly in regard to furnishing shipments of ale to Cheliax taverns.
- How would you describe your character?
Henry is a perceptive, observant character with a decent set of individuality and clever humor that connects with others. Henry has remained content to follow orders and complete his tasks to obtain enough money to get by, preferring the auspices brought by city life to countryside living. However, he also carries the recognition that he is fairly skilled and intelligent compared to the average individual, but is growing discontent with the noble hierarchy and mercantile consortium around him that tend to save wealth for themselves. Henry is ripe for involvement in political movements.
- How would your character describe themselves? (Remember these two things can be very different).
Henry considers himself skilled, sensible, involved, and capable. Investigatory work carries a natural predisposition for solving problems and can be for the greater good, so he is certainly skilled and sensible. However, Henry is not quite so involved as he believes and his understanding of political arguments is at a fairly novice level. This combination suggests that in an area of political unrest, Henry will be faced with an initial shock as he will scramble to understand the situation around him, but the competency to both solve his problems and forecast will allow him to obtain deep personal development.

Alina Dereni |

I like the look of all the characters here! I think we have some interesting personalities, and I think it'll make for an exciting campaign.
And I like the idea of Alina meeting Renvil in her parent's library; she could have recommended a few books to him. Ditto running a few messages for Henry! She was a reliable courier.

Any word from our fighter?

![]() |
Firstly, apologies for the delay. My net went down over the weekend after a drunk driver decided to pick a fight with the exchange box >.> Took out the entire neighbourhood lol
Anyway:
- Is your character a native of Kintargo? If not, how did they come to be here?
Rhen grew up on the streets of Kintargo, and became one of the street urchins early on after his parent were executed. He was eventually picked up by a half-elf bodyguard who taught him the trade, and a code to live by.
- Does your character know any of the other player characters? If so, how?
Probably not.
- How would you describe your character?
Cold, calculating on the surface, yet oddly charismatic. He's a habit of saying cold hard truths, but in such a way that people don't take offence
- How would your character describe themselves? (Remember these two things can be very different).
Apathetic towards anything not related to his gear or job. When it comes to his job he's a perfectionist, and has no problems doing the dirty jobs no one else likes or wants.

Sounds like a real group of bada--es. Welcome!

Alina Dereni |

So, looking things over, I realized I didn't quite answer these questions to my satisfaction. Thus: more rambling!
How would you describe your character?
I would describe Alina as well-meaning, but a little naive; she has strong principles. She wants to help. She wants to make her homeland a better place. She is still learning how to do this -- and, importantly, learning the limits of her power.
She's also smart, but... she can be a little full of herself. The ignorance of youth is a thing, even for someone pretty intelligent.
How would your character describe themselves? (Remember these two things can be very different).
Alina would describe herself as having strong convictions -- and being quite capable of handling herself. She might, if she is being honest, admit to being a little inexperienced in the ways of the world as a whole.

I've sent a PM to NOTY to notify him we are ready. Hopefully we'll hear something after Easter's inevitable craziness

Renvil Ratarion |

Ratarion Going Too Far? by Beren Moonglow, Arts Editor, Kintargo Beacon
"Another tour de force from our upcoming local playwright, this weekend's opening of 'A Devil's Lark' kept the audience entertained, all right. Ever the sharp wit, Ratarion (who once again fills the dual roles of playwright and director) presented a fast-moving and endlessly funny farce. No doubt the seats will be full for the whole run. The gorgeous Eroda Heatherspan shines as our heroine Elisa, and Aernallie Millass (who both scored the work and took the soprano role yet again) proves once again why she and only she can fill the Opera House like no other. Devon Shure kept the audience in stitches with his role as the unlikely hero Murt, displaying a comic timing that this author hasn't seen on that stage in 3 seasons at least.
"But we are not here to discuss the actors, nor the elegant staging, props or design. With unrest throughout Cheliax, and rumors of martial law in other cities, one has to wonder if thinly-veiled jokes at the expense of what can only be understood as stand-ins for the Thrunes is truly a good policy. And those passages in the middle that you didn't understand? While this author doesn't understand Infernal, it has been said (on good authority) that *those* jokes are a little to pointed at one Baron in particular. This paper will not reprint the context as we understand it, out of respect for our national leaders.
"If we see any closer attention to our fair city in this tumultuous time, our young playwright might find it a good time for a vacation."

No response from NOTY I'm afraid. He hasn't posted in his other table either so Real Life might've gotten him.

Alyksandrei |
Cool. That's two out of...six? Since nobody's objected, why don't I get started inheriting the campaign (gotta email support), and I'll read over what's here and get a first post up sometime tomorrow (Saturday 9 April; I'm on Eastern Time). If all I have is two players, I may end up migrating you into my other table; if I can deal with two tables of 5 and 2, I should be able to manage one table of 7, right? Otherwise I'm happy to run the two tables separately if there's still enough players for that.

Oskar Gorunn |

Sorry I lost track of this thread. If you're willing to take this on then I'm willing to go with you. :) Since threads get lost so easily it might be worth sending some mail to the others to see if they're still in.

Hullo all, Donal got pulled into a game but our GM has been nice enough to all Chak in. He's a Tengu Crossbow Ace.

Oskar Gorunn |

Alyksandrei, just wanted to let you know that my character sheet was created in PCGen and it doesn't have the traits from the campaign, so pleas just know that I also chose 'Ex-Asmodean' as a campaign trait.

Alyksandrei |
Now that I have a moment, here's a post about what I expect from you all and what I'm promising. I expect you to hold me to my own expectations, because I'm a notorious lurker. I've had face-to-face GMs ask me if everything's ok and I'm having fun because I just don't talk much if I don't have anything to say. And forums? I read them all the time, but sometimes I forget that you all are waiting on me, so PLEASE say something in Discussion or send me a PM if you need a response.
Anyway, the below information is also in the Campaign Description, which will be updated when/if I think of something else that needs to be recorded there. Hopefully this will help us all have more fun.
Posting Expectations:
Gameplay Thread - at least 1/week, preferably more. I tend to be more active on weekends, but I know others are less active then.
Total - at least every 2-3 days. It's ok to just post in Discussion "Still here. Still paying attention. Waiting for something worth reacting to." or something along those lines
Combat:
I will be rolling your initiative (as soon as I get everyone's charsheets formatted how I want). You may state your action(s) for the turn/round in any order; I will resolve them in whatever order makes the most sense: in initiative order, or, if that would break a really cool move, in narrative (whatever-makes-a-better-story) order.
Notes:
I've been playing a lot of 5e lately, where modifiers and sneak attack work somewhat differently. I do my best to remember the correct rules for the table I'm at, but sometimes I forget. I'm working on rereading the CRB, but haven't gotten very far yet. I do know the rules, I just get mixed up sometimes. So if I start telling you you have advantage, or that you should roll sneak attack damage when you don't think you should, remind me which edition we're playing.
Traits: I don't remember what NOTY originally said about the number of traits per character, but I think it would be more interesting if you have 2 traits plus a campaign trait. So...you must have a campaign trait, and you may have up to 2 additional traits from allowed sources using the normal trait rules.
Profiles: In the "Classes/Levels" box, I'd like you to list your AC, HP (x/x), Initiative modifier, Perception and other important (to your character, for now) skill mods, and your saves. It would be nice (but I won't require it; it's a lot of work to type up) if you could get a full character sheet into the "About [character]" field - check out my other aliases (particularly Delyn) for an example of what I mean. It can help a lot when a player disappears or doesn't respond and needs to be botted (I won't do that much, I promise!) in order to move things along after a few days of waiting. And having your most commonly used stats in the "Classes/Levels" box means it shows up under your name when you post - less window-switching for me when I need to, say, roll everyone's initiative.
Bookkeeping and Logistics: I'm not a big fan of tracking all the little bookkeeping and logistics details, so I plan on using the "everyone levels up when the story needs them to" method of XP distribution, and I really don't care how much your gear weighs. Just keep it reasonable and I won't have to apply encumbrance penalties.

Where can we find the campaign traits?

Alyksandrei |
I believe they are either a free download or included in the massive number of books from the Humble Bundle. Give me a moment to locate a link for you.
Yep, the Hell's Rebels Player's Guide is where you'd find things like campaign traits. And if you don't find one you like that fits you're character, talk to me and we can work something out. The main point of a campaign trait is to help tie your character more closely with the local area and recent events. It's meant to be as much flavor as it is a mechanical bonus, so we can homebrew or reskin something if you don't see anything that fits your character.
The "requirement" of having a campaign trait is definitely more negotiable than requirements really are. And the whole point of the exercise is to have fun pretending you're someone else, so don't stress over it too much. I doubt I'll actually be verifying every aspect of your character unless I think you've done something seriously outside the rules.

![]() |

Cool. Added Pattern Seeker as it fits really well with Chak's obsession with figuring out how other races live and work with each other. Kintargo is basically a huge case study for him.

Renvil Ratarion |

Sorry for my weekend absence; I got a last-minute invite to go camping, and the weekend was so nice!
I made the requested changes to my character sheet; please review when you get a chance and let me know if that works for this game. I will need to add an additional trait; I already had the "Diva in Training" campaign trait, so I will find another "normal" trait. I should be able to do that tonight or tomorrow.

Renvil Ratarion |

I found a great trait that's perfect. Very in-character and works well with Renvil's background: Ear for Music. I need to be a worshipper of Shelyn, but that seems to work well, as it's one of the few non-Asmodean religions still allowed in Kintargo under Thrune. I'll update my character sheet with that shortly.

Is this game still going?

Oskar posted when it was his turn - he might still be around
