Dr. Zephyrus Vitruvian
|
"Tell me: whom do you serve above all others?"
"Not whom, but what: Life and beauty, even if none other may understand how I do it or why."
"At whose command would you walk through flame?"
"My own. Is it not enough?"
| GM Chyro |
"It be so."
Enter Dr. Zephyr in the furnace.
2d6 ⇒ (3, 1) = 4 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 6 + 2 = 22 V
2d6 ⇒ (5, 6) = 11 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 6 + 2 = 10 X
2d6 ⇒ (3, 4) = 7 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 6 + 2 = 9 X
2d6 ⇒ (1, 1) = 2 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 6 + 2 = 25 V
2d6 ⇒ (3, 3) = 6 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 6 + 2 = 13 X
Like the others, you can take your actions every round as you see fit while in her.
During your stay, the heat will deal 27 fire dmg to you.
Harlis, Vassago?
Dr. Zephyrus Vitruvian
|
Dr. Vitruvian weathers the heat with unnatural resilience, and comes out looking only a bit the worse for wear.
2 rounds of Spontaneous Healing/Healing Touch spent.
| GM Chyro |
If the furnace would fire off death rays for every defiant answer, this'd be over very quickly. ^^
"It be so."
2d6 ⇒ (3, 5) = 8 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16 X
2d6 ⇒ (5, 5) = 10 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18 V
2d6 ⇒ (3, 1) = 4 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25 V
2d6 ⇒ (6, 1) = 7 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18 V
2d6 ⇒ (4, 1) = 5 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10 X
You can take actions every round for 5 rounds that you are in here.
During your stay, the furnace's heat deals 23 fire dmg to you.
She points to Vassago, and he gets to give his answers.
| GM Chyro |
Harlis, like the ones before him, enters the reception room.
Vassago steps up.
"Whom i follow? My friends and my heart.
At whose command i brave the flame? My own courage, of course."
He bravely enters the furnace.
2d6 ⇒ (3, 3) = 6 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 7 + 2 = 17 X Fire resist, 1 dmg.
Fast heal 2.
2d6 ⇒ (1, 5) = 6 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 7 + 2 = 20 V Fire resist, 0 dmg.
2d6 ⇒ (6, 6) = 12 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 7 + 2 = 25 V Fire resist, 1 dmg.
Fast heal 2.
2d6 ⇒ (2, 4) = 6 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 7 + 2 = 12 X Fire resist, 1 dmg.
Fast heal 2.
2d6 ⇒ (5, 4) = 9 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 7 + 2 = 27 V Fire resist, 0 dmg.
Vassago comes out completely unfazed, with an almost cocky smile on his face. Surprisingly enough, all 4 groupies likewise come out unharmed.
--------------------------------
The furnace’s exit opens to a twenty-foot-square room with two exits in the northeast corner. It is empty save for two large barrels in the southwest corner.
The hooded man speaks as all of you have gathered.
"You have shown yourselves to be worthy of what you are about to receive. You have been asked to wear the rune of the goddess on your flesh, and have put yourselves in mortal danger to obey the command of Lissala. The furnace has burned away your old life. Your fears, your weaknesses—those things are gone now. In the furnace, Lissala saw the strength of your dedication, and she was pleased.
But now she must see the force of your will. You must decide among yourselves who is the most worthy of the goddess’s honor, and who’s the
least. The most worthy will receive power beyond imagining. What happens to the weakest should be none of your concern. There are no rules save this: You have five minutes. In five minutes, you must present the greatest and the weakest among you, or you will all return to the furnace. And this time it will not be so kind."
Vassago Ilsidore
|
Thanks GM as that is what I would have done. New puppy + laptop power cable = ordering a new laptop power cable which came in today!
"I certainly don't see myself as the weakest...", Vassago comments, nonchalantly coughing.
| Enora - Iconic character |
Enora looks at the group and is a little insecure on how to proceed.
What are the groupies doing GM? How are they so strong?
| GM Chyro |
What are the groupies doing GM? How are they so strong?
That's a secret. ;)
| Enora - Iconic character |
Enora steps forward.
”I am definitely the strongest in magical power and I assume that one those people is the weakest!“ she says with some confidence and points at the groupies.
| GM Chyro |
The depressed man, 1st to be your groupie, slightly raises his hand.
"I'll be the weakest. I had expected the brand and furnace to make me feel something. It did not."
The robed man nods.
"This is your final choice?"
I'll wait till the evening to see if there's any objections, if not, Enora takes the trial.
Sele the Thorn
|
What looks like happening to the rest of us though?
"I do not think I am the weakest, but I do ont hold myself the strongest, I still have much to learn."
Vassago Ilsidore
|
"So complex... I am the greatest in charm, but you Sele have the strongest swordarm amongst us. I shall not doubt Enora's claims and from what I can see of Herr doctor... he is definitely the greatest in something."
| Enora - Iconic character |
Enora smiles.
”I only said I am the greatest in ‘magical’ power. But I am willing to step down if any of you want the title!“ she says looking at Sele.
| GM Chyro |
What looks like happening to the rest of us though?
Nothing as of yet. The story advances when a decision is made.
F2f, a party only has 5 irl minutes for this. ^^
Dr. Zephyrus Vitruvian
|
"Herr Doctor" steps forward.
"Though I prefer not to go into details, mine is the greatest life's work and quest - and you speak of service? All that I do is goaded by concerns far more pressing than riches or reputation. The breadth of my work's implications goes would be...VERY difficult to match. Its proportions begin at the particular level, and extend through the cosmic. I have far to go in its pursuit, but I have also come far. That must count for something."
Also, I'm highest-level, so there would be that.
| GM Chyro |
As amusing as the whole [I am Spartacus] is, could there be a vote among you, to get things going? It can hardly be decision of a single PC, both IC and ooc.
| Enora - Iconic character |
Ok with the dr. Or Enora as strongest.
Harlis Underbough
|
Harlis ponders for a moment after frowning on the implication of what may be held for the weakest before offering a suggestion. "Mayhap we nominate the same person for both. Enora while magically puissant is not physical. The reward cancels whatever awaits the nominated least."
| GM Chyro |
The man shakes his head.
"Two people are involved in the trial. And strongest is not solely the physical."
| Enora - Iconic character |
| 1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Enora walks forward.
”I have decided to be the strongest! Let us proceed.“
| GM Chyro |
The man nods,
"Your boldness is commendable. Few in the past have declared themselves as such as strongly as you."
There is some tone of forward respect for Enora.
The depressed groupie steps up with Enora.
"You can follow me. The other candidates will be guided to another room under blindfold. The lady watch over us."
To be continued when i'm home with the pdf.
| GM Chyro |
"Before the final part of the initiation can commence, please blindfold yourselves with the sacks on the chair over there. After that, i'll take you to the sacred chamber, and the miss to the trial."
| Enora - Iconic character |
Oh Oh. We are separated?! Ahhhh!! :-) Well death is not the worst fate.
Enora complies.
| GM Chyro |
If you want a fun one about separation...
A homebrew had a lantern close the doors with a forcefield, 2 people outside, 3 inside with a tendril monster in a corpse in a chest. :P
| Enora - Iconic character |
Sh***t! ;-)
| GM Chyro |
Since there were no new posts, i'll assume the infiltration plan proceeds according to the unknowing cultist's request.
Everyone dons a sack over their heads, and both groups are led to different rooms, after some turning in place to mess up sense of direction.
=============================================
Your hood is removed, and you finds herself in a room with an attractive woman holding it. Another robed cultist presses the groupie to his knees.
The woman places the hoods on the table, then turns back to you.
"The greatest gift Lissala has to offer is eternal life. It shall be yours. But there is one last rite you must undergo, to show us that you are dedicated to the goddess above all else.
Take this knife, and with it, remove the heart of the wretch before you. Feast upon that heart, for those who are unworthy to serve in life should feed those who rule with their blood. The blood will baptize you, and the hour of your glorious transformation will be at hand."
Of note, feasting does not explicitly mean consuming it.
As your hoods are removed, you are lined up in a room, with three robed individuals present.
"Welcome, initiates, to the path of Lissala. By standing here now, you have proven yourselves ready to serve the faith in its pursuit of knowledge and enlightenment."
Can i get 2 willsaves from Vassago, Dr. Zephyr and 1d2 ⇒ 1 Harlis.
| Enora - Iconic character |
GM, can Enora estimate in which room she was taken and in which direction the others were brought?
Perception : 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16
| GM Chyro |
Unfortunately not to both questions.
| Enora - Iconic character |
I understand GM. We went through the furnace and the room we were in had how many doors? Where were these doors? To be honest I did not check the map ppt at all and now can’t see anything. Can Enora see how many doors the room she is in has?
| GM Chyro |
The room you were in had doors. The one you are in now is closed, and has but 1 (visible) exit.
At current moment, the lady is in front of you, and the other robed person behind the two of you, as he made your groupie kneel.
Dr. Zephyrus Vitruvian

+2 to the following if these are against an Enchantment:
Will save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Will save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
| Enora - Iconic character |
Okay. I am trying to be logical here. ;-) The room I am in has a door that surely leads to the room that we were in. So either the room to the left or the room to the right might be where the others are. Facing the door: 1 room to the left or 2 room to the right : 1d2 ⇒ 1
Enora looks disgusted. But she walks to the woman and takes the knife.
She moves a step in the direction of the groupie with the knife and facing the door suddenly vanishes appearing 10 ft beyond the wall to left of her.
Dimensional Slide: Enora can spend 1 reservoir point during a move or withdraw action to step through a dimensional rift, essentially spending 5 feet of movement to move dimensionally up to 70 feet away. The dimensional movement doesn’t provoke attacks of opportunity, though the rest of the move provokes as normal.
Depending on what she sees she will then decide how she will continue her movement.
| GM Chyro |
This part of the mission is going to be multitasking for me, so i won't advance too much. The boys have their initiation play out simultaneously, as a matter of fact.
As your face turns disgusted, while the woman expected a different reaction in an eager initiate brought before her, she suspects something may be off.
She has enough sense motive to suspect something.
She holds onto the dagger as you try taking it.
"I thought you'd be eager, my dear."
To be continued when i get some posts in from the boys' initiation.
| GM Chyro |
Moving along.
Save 1: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Save 2: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Taking liberty to use his re-roll for the 1st, avoiding it is highly beneficial.
Will Vassago: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11 :/
======================================
At the room of the men....
Harlis feels a slight tingling sensation, as the robed men spoke, but it passed.
"...and so. From today onward, you proudly serve the goddess by spreading her faith and tending to the sanctum's needs and it and its members' preservation. Any questions?"
I'll wait for everyone's responses.
Sele the Thorn
|
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 15
Does Sele notice what's going on to cause the others to have to make saves?
Sele tries a bit of roleplay as an excuse to get his weapon in hand. He draw his sword and holding it front of him he says "I swear to uphold and serve the truth with every fibre of my being."
Dr. Zephyrus Vitruvian
|
Dr. Vitruvian is eerily silent as he kneels, hand on his sword....
| GM Chyro |
After the man's speech, the hoods come off one by one. Dr. Zephyr and Vassago first, both making a kneeling motion before standing up. This seems to please the man who spoke.
With the often used 'to say nothing is to comply', Harlis's hood comes off.
Perform untrained [Acting for diversion: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Sense motives, mods not included: 3d20 ⇒ (18, 11, 10) = 39
While Sele strikes a decent act of drama, the main cultist raises an eyebrow.
"That is not quite an oath to our goddess. Initiate, sheathe your weapon and tell me, whom do you serve."
Harlis isn't sure what was going on, but if anything, a sudden tingling in the head for several seconds isn't normal.
(Unless sunstroke, bloodloss...etc)
Sele?
Sele the Thorn
|
"The Goddess of course, all that I am I devote to her service, how could we not."
diplomacy: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (16) + 13 = 29
He does not sheathe his weapon allowing himself to get caught up in his own fanatic declarations and trying to bring them along with him.
| GM Chyro |
"Initiate, you speak too broadly," his voice now hinting at disbelieving the act altogether, you leave out the name of our goddess in that declaration of devotion. You also do not follow command from your superiors within the order."
His body language now shows similarities of an educator about to discipline a student. The cultist is onto the charade, and he seems bent on rooting out the trespassers from the faithful.
"Brothers, we have one not worthy before us. To arms, may he become a fitting sacrifice today. Initiates, you will aid us in defeating this imposter."
As is, they only suspect Sele of not going along with the grand design.
=====================================
Over at Enora's trial..
The woman gives a quick glance to the cultists behind Enora, as she and Enora both hold the dagger.
=====================================
Enora: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Surprise surprise, Charito: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
Feaster cultist: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Harlis: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Green: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Tesserick: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
=======================================
The cultist steps into a flank with the woman, making an attempt to grab Enora.
Grapple vs flat footed, flank: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 7 + 2 = 19, the cultist grabs hold of Enora.
Charito backhands Enora.
Slam, flank: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 8 + 2 = 19 Dmg: 1d4 + 6 + 3d6 ⇒ (1) + 6 + (6, 4, 2) = 19
Fort Enora vs energy drain, branded: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 6 + 2 = 12 No luck.
After the hit, Enora feels weaker.
You've 2 temporary negative levels.
Enora
Men's room, round 1
Blue steps up to Sele, attempting to grab him.
Grapple vs ff?: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19 Fail.
Green steps up to throw a left one at Sele.
Fist vs blindfolded ff: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19 Dmg: 1d4 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7 Miss.

When she is grappled Enora uses her Immediate Action: Casting ‚liberating command‘ on herself. +14 to escape artist check.
A grappled character who attempts to cast a spell must make a concentration check (DC 10 + grappler’s CMB + spell level, see page 206), or lose the spell: : 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27
* * *
Using prescience, 1/6 : 1d20 ⇒ 9
Ahh! Not using that now!
Using liberating command to escape, +14 on escape artist: 1d20 + 3 + 14 ⇒ (14) + 3 + 14 = 31
Enora can hopefully free herself!
| GM Chyro |
X), you'd have been better off by potentially disarming him by greasing his weapon.
Fyi Vassago :o, you're directed to fight to your full potential here, your superiors in the cult tasked you this. As well as appropriate tactics like flanking.
---------------------------------
Enora, flat footed prevents you from using immediate actions. What will your plan be now?
Of note, aside from concentration to be able to cast, you may also want to roll to avoid any aoo, unless you're feeling super lucky. ;)

Harlis sees Vassago step into a flanking position with the cultist, striking at Sele, but missing anyway.

GM, PRD: Using an immediate action on your turn is the same as using a swift action and counts as your swift action for that turn. You cannot use another immediate action or a swift action until after your next turn if you have used an immediate action when it is not currently your turn (effectively, using an immediate action before your turn is equivalent to using your swift action for the coming turn). You also cannot use an immediate action if you are flat-footed.
You are right about casting defensively. I can use my prescience roll of 9 to get to 9+12=21 Concentration to cast defensively. :-)
