The Farmhouse
Evening
4th Day of Readying (Early Spring) of 570cy(Day 2)

The remaining party at the farm spend nearly thirty minutes tending to the fires. As they gather once more they notice with the carcasses burning the flies and gnats have dispersed. Suddenly they hear a SNAP! and a CRACK! and the main beam of the barn's roof breaks and collapses into the barn. As it does the entire roof falls inward and downward into the fire. The fire seems to swell and then thrusts up into the night sky. Embers and sparks fly everywhere as this happens but they quickly fade into nothing. The fire of the house and the barn will rage throughout most the night. The smaller fires seem to be burning but they will not last for more than a few hours once all the fuel is exhausted in them.

Harry wipes the ash and dirt from his face as best he can, glad he did not need to summon his more powerful magicks yet.

I always be wonderin'...will this be th' time the Madness strikes?

Once the fires have ebbed into something more manageable he takes a moment to gaze up at the stars lost in his thoughts...though the astute could see the trails of freshly made tears on his cheeks.

Bynoth watches the fire rage with a grim set - the hellish flames illuminating his stern countenance;

"I pray this is both a pyre for the pestilence itself as much as those it claimed. If not our work will continue... By fire, flail and faith this plague, and its chaos, will be conquered and o'ercome."

Sweating with the others, as the fires burn, Perri ignores the pandering of Bynoth while he wonders whether he should trust the water from the well. Eventually deciding not to risk it, he moves a little further away from the fire, trying to cool off, some.

Thanim breathes deep and waits for the others to leave. "This disease is usually carried by vermin and pests, but humans too can transmit it. I do not mean to give contradicting advice, but I do mean to say to use good judgment. Do not turn one away simply because he is unknown or from the north, but if he is sickly, be cautious. Unfortunately, the sickness begins as many others: chills, fever, generally feeling unwell. But soon, the buboes appear." Thanim illustrates by point to and touching his neck, armpits, and groin, "These swellings are the key sign of the Plague. If someone shows these..." He shakes his head.

"My companions have gathered and burned the infected carcasses, but several days must pass before it is safe to visit the farm." Thanim's eyes well a bit as he says, "The entire family is dead. All, including the traveler, were buried except for the parents and grandfather. They were still in their beds; the parents had been dead for some time; the grandfather passed immediately after we spoke. He was obviously a strong man, holding on until he could tell his story." He pauses and looks toward the distant flames, "By now, they will have been buried by fire."

Thanim looks back at the farmer, "News of this must be passed to the Church of Pelor in Burle. They will handle it appropriately; others may not be so... responsible. I must stay to check and possibly care for my companions. Is there one you can trust to deliver such a message?"

The Farmhouse - The Scared Farmers
Evening
4th Day of Readying (Early Spring) of 570cy(Day 2)

The first old farmer, Willin you believe his name is from listening to them banter back and forth, turns to the both of you. "We are grateful for helpin. It ain't often that strangers would put themselves in harms way like you do'in now. There is an old cabin just south of the farm, about ten minutes are so with an easy walk. It was their first home while when they were a young couple while they cleared the land and set the stones. It is right by a creek and the water doesn't flow near their farm. It is a small place but his wife kept the place up when she could. It should offer you lodging for the night and a place to rest and eat. It won't be much but there will be enough room for you all to bed down out of the cold night air with a secure door and windows." With that the rest of the farmers make their way back down the trail towards the main road and their own farmsteads.

Thanim and Maja make their way back towards the farmstead. Both wondering to themselves want would be in store for them in the morning. Would Thanim and Bynoth be dealing with infected companions... Thanim knew he had never seen or heard of the bubonic plague doing this in the manner it did with such efficiency. It scared the healer and if this is what so many were facing there was cause to be frightened.

Upon returning, Maja shares the news with her companions. "We met some o' the neighbors, they said they'd help spread the word. Even offered us a cabin outta the way to rest in. Seems to me we'd all better take it easy for a while. If we're sick, take care of each other until it passes.

Thanim thanks Willin for letting them know about the cabin, "The cabin will be better shelter than we could have expected. It will be very useful if it turns out I need to care for anyone."

As they walk back to the farm, Thanim breathes a sigh of relief, "That went as well as we could have hoped. They were clearly agitated, but you immediately put them at ease." He smiles, "Seems we make a pretty good team. Now let's get back and see how everyone else is doing."

---

Coming down the path, Thanim sees just how big the fires are. The group certainly got a lot done while they were talking with the neighbors. The firelight casts long shadows, and the the heat and smoke have run off all the pests. It's actually kind of pleasant in an oblivious, innocent way. He looks around and a weight falls upon him. The area is so beautiful. It's easy to see why they would settle here and try to make a happy life. But what a tragic end. Their lives are over, much of their life's work destroyed, consumed in a single night in a fire that will be but ash in a few hours. He stifles a huff at the realization and slows his walk, looking down at the tendrils of grass trying to reclaim the dirt worn free of vegetation. He stops, yanks a strand free of the dirt, and tosses it back into the field. "That's all we can do. One good act at a time, but when all do what they can, the line is held, and good prevails. Praise Pelor." The thought makes him feel a little bit better, but the feeling quickly passes. This is going to take some time; it's barely been a couple weeks since Wigger and Cwenhild...

He walks quickly to catch back up with Maja and nods his head at her and the others' words. "Let me examine all of us. If it looks like any of us have been infected, we'll need to split into 2 groups until we've recovered."

The Farmhouse of Plague
Evening
4th Day of Readying (Early Spring) of 570cy(Day 2)

Perri, Harry, Cerilis, Bynoth, and Sylas gathered in the farmyard between what is now two very large fires see Maja and Thanim come out of the treeline along the trail towards the gate. The group notices they are walking with a relaxed gate and don't seem rushed in the least... Perri's shoulders relax a bit knowing that means the discussions with the group must of went well. He looks further down the trail and can see the glow of torches and he watches them after a few moments can see they are moving away from the farmstead. Sylas notices it as well and they both share a glance and a nod. Sylas had seen Thanim and Maja get them out of a spot or two on numerous occasions in the Dreadwood. He wasn't surprised they did it tonight as well. Thankful they did...Sylas turns his head as he coughs...not sure if it is the smoke, the dry air...or something else...
far more dangerous. Has Sylas finishes coughing Perri is staring at him with a deeply concerned look.

The group waits for the two to make their way back up to what remains of the farm. By tomorrow morning no barn, no house, and no animals will be left only a stone walled meadow and the burnt out remains of what was...

The two diplomats finally make it to the rest of the group...passing along the events with farmers he begins to inspect his friends.

Each takes nearly ten minutes but it is obvious that Bynoth and Sylas are not affected by the sickness. Harry, Perri, and Sylas have what appear to be swollen glands at the throat, armpits, and neck. They have the makings of a slight fever as well. As Thanim inspects the party he moves Maja, Sylas, and Bynoth away into a separate group. By the time he is done three of his companions stand with him. Thanim pauses for a moment staring at the fire. His skills will be put to the test. He has never seen a sickness like this and rumors have spread of this disease bringing much more than just the plague. What is in store for his companions he does not know but he will do what he can as best he can.

Thanim finshes the examinations. He takes a moment as he realizes that three of his friends have contracted the Plague. "Just like the family. They didn't ask for it, yet they got it." He asks everyone to gather and clears his throat, "I have bad news. We did not escape unscathed. Harry, Perri, and Cerilis, you three are infected, but don't worry! I have my satchel, my skill, and my god! You will all be made whole!" He pats the leather bag hanging at his hip and puts on a brave face. "Come with me to the cabin and we will start your treatment. It will not be easy, but we can do it. Even if all goes perfectly, we will need 3 days, so those who are not ill should set up camp, hunt, and gather food."

He leads the way to the cabin and opens the door. "Tonight we will stay in here. If the sun is out tomorrow, we can move outside to get some healing rays of Sol." He looks at his patients, smiles, and says, "Let's get your bedding in place, and we can begin."

Thanim helps prepare the cabin, then kneels, facing towards where the sun set. "I am a healer. I heal those who are in need and ask for aid. Guide my hands and open my eyes. Grant me thy judgment that I may do good and heal the sick."

Maja has to bite her tongue to not say something insensitive about how right she was. Once she's separated into the "healthy" group, Maja can't resist a whipser.

"See, this is exactly what I said would happen! If they get sick, and then we get sick, and then more people near us get sick, how does that help? Anyone who didn't either stay away like Sylas and me or have a god behind their back ended up sick!" Maja starts offering a completely incorrect assessment of why people do and don't fall ill.

As Thanim declares that he will bring them back to health, Maja, at least, feels reassured. Though she wasn't the sick one. When Bynoth speaks moments later, she feels like he'll definitely kill the disease, but maybe also the victim in the process! "I'll see if I can get some supplies from the neighbors to make a nice chicken soup. But I think if we've learned anything, it's that we need to keep a safe distance!" Turns out she couldn't hold her tongue for more than a few minutes.

Maja has no intention of staying in the cabin with the ill. She finds a separate space on the grounds to set up a healthy person's camp.

The Farmhouse
Late Evening
4th Day of Readying (Early Spring) of 570cy(Day 2)

Thanim guides Harry, Perri, and Cerilis to the cabin just a few hundred yards from the farmstead. Thanim finds a trail that runs along a small creek just outside of the meadow stone walls. It runs into a small log cabin with a wood slate roof in somewhat poor shape and covered in moss. Thanim walks up to the door along with Perri and they both look inside the one window on the door side. It is an old cabin, maybe twenty or thirty years old and a single room. It has one large bed in the northeast corner. There is a long wooden plank table on the south wall with a washing basin and two water pitchers. Some basic cooking pots, spoons, and ladles hang from the walls over the table as well. On the same wall is a small fireplace and there is a copper bin with wood, enough to probably get through a spring night, piled in it. There are blankets, towels, and linens piled on a small shelf near the table. It is not much but it will easily house the four companions for a few nights.

Harry sees a cooking fire outside and to the left of the cabin. It has some sort of spit and grill as well as a cooking pot that can be set up under a covered area. All of which look to have been oiled and taken care off.

There is also a full cord of hardwood covered on the same side as well. There is an outhouse not five paces behind the cabin and a smokehouse of sorts ten paces or so to the west.

Thanim looks at his three companions and sees they are all exhausted...the physical toll of both the journey, the quick work at the farmstead taking care of the animals, and the buildings was bad enough but the emotional toll on them of knowing what is ahead has also had an effect. The rumors of this sickness weigh heavy on their minds after seeing the actual effects of it on the farmers.

Thanim sits down on one of the cabin steps. A breeze blows through his hair, and he gives it a quick shake. He rubs his knees and exhales in nervous concern. "Be strong," he thinks, "With Pelor's help we will get through this. Just keep the healthy away and use the gifts of Pelor..." He stands and reenters the cabin. He looks at the three, "Hmm. The number one thing is to get rest. Well, that and stay away from the others. This is where we get better. That is our focus. You will get feverish and will feel weak. That is normal for this disease, but I will be here to care for you. It is important that you drink plenty of water. Anything you need, ask. Any discomfort you feel, speak up. I will do all that I can, and with Pelor, we will be healthy once more." He smiles to hide his anxiety. He has studied and trained for this, but the stories he's heard... They give him pause. Nobody seems to know for sure what this really is. He will simply put his faith in Pelor and do what he can.

Thanim keeps his mouth, nose, and hands covered. He walks to the closest patient and begins to tend to him. He pats a damp cloth across his forehead and makes sure he is covered and comfortable. "Go to sleep. Get some rest. I'll watch over you through the night." He treats the others likewise, then steps outside to speak with the rest.

"I will not be able to remain awake throughout this entire... treatment. I do not want to endanger anyone else, so do not enter the cabin, but when I sleep, I will need someone nearby to listen and otherwise pay attention. I will sleep at the entrance, so that I may be awakened if necessary." He looks around and finds a long stick. "Prod me with this. Come no closer than required. This will take a few days, but we'll make it." He pauses as if done speaking, but starts back again, "Ohh, please get us some water for the night. And whatever can be done to keep vermin and pests away would be helpful, too."

Everyone has agreed to use Thanim's check...

Thanim hovers around his patients, ensuring they have food, water, and the necessary care. He occasionally digs into his satchel to pull a bandage or administer a specialized medicine that he believes may have good effect. He is often caught muttering a prayer to himself as he goes about his tasks and seems extraordinarily focused on their condition and noting what efforts seem to make a difference.

"Pelor, I do this good. May it fight the evil and purify these, my friends and companions, that together we may continue to hold the darkness at bay."

Thanim consumes 2 uses per patient (6 total) from his healer's satchel in caring for their diseased condition.

At daybreak, Maja will requisition some supplies from rural parts to create a soup. "Where I come from, we have soup all the time. Lots of fish stews, kind of like what we had the other day. Good when you're sick. I figure it can't hurt to try it here." She lets the soup simmer slowly over the campfire so that the ingredients become tender and easy to eat. When it's ready, she brings it over closer to the cabin, letting Thanim do the work of actually feeding it to the ill.

Baltron's Beacon

The Farmhouse
Evening
4th Day of Readying (Early Spring) of 570cy(Day 2)

Thanim guides Harry, Perri, and Cerilis

Thanim spends the night caring for his three companions. All three at some point break out in night sweats and take to a fever but Thanim's skill as a healer gets them through the night. All three toss and turn as if having horrible dreams...mumbling in their sleep in some nonsensical language that Thanim has never heard.

For Harry, Perri, and Cerilis:

As you gain some level of comfort from the warm fire and settle down to sleep exhaustion washes over you quickly. Before you know it you're in the midst of sleeping. Your body relaxes and you drift off deeper and deeper into the rest your body needs to recover.

You awaken sometime in the late hour to what you think is a snap or pop in the fire. It startles you enough for your body to pop and you come up quickly and look around. The fire again POPS--CRACKS and amber sparks fly in and about the fireplace. You look around and see your two companions sleeping in the room and Thanim position on the floor by the door with his blanket over him soundly asleep. The air is still...at first you feel as if there is not enough to of it in the room to take a full breath. Then the smell of something acidic..it burns the noise but the scent is faint...as if it is burning ash or something foul. It goes away after a moment. You look around the room and you notice the corners of the roof up in the low rafters it is much darker than it should be...the light from the fires should make those corners dim not bathed in total darkness. At first, you think nothing of it...you scan the room one more time before you decide to reposition your blanket and go back to sleep. A noise catches your attention...like a cat or an animal moving in the opposite ceiling corner. At first, it is a small noise like a scratching..then as if it is moving from one side of that corner to the other. Several moments go by as you tense and you look about the room for your gear and your weapon. That is when you see the small sharp red eyes in the corner... The pitch black in the corner is overwhelming it seems to have greater depth than any darkness you have ever seen. The eyes seem to appear out of the darkness and float in position for just a bit. That is when you hear this string of sounds...a hum, a low hum at first...it is repeating something in a language you have never heard. You look around expecting to see your friends awaken as the hum is loud now. No one awakens...no one stirs...that is when you turn to check the corner and the eyes are gone. In the next few moments your hair raises as you expect whatever that thing is to be right by you but as you turn and check around you it is not there. It is gone...the room is cold and the air is crisp as the fire is low. Moments go by and nothing stirs and you assume it was your imagination an you return to your sleep.

The rays of dawn can be seen from the window and Thanim being up all night tending to his friends decides to grab a quick nap. His eyes are heavy and his back hurts from leaning over and caring for his companions. He unfolds his blanket and wraps himself up by the door. None of his friends have stirred or moved through the night except for when they had the weird dreams or nightmares and began to mumble in their sleep. Daylight will be upon you in a few short hours.

Thanim is also still in danger of becoming infected as well...

The three finish up their meals and bed down for the night. The spring night air is cold but it is nothing the companions are not used to and all three of them seem thankful they are not in the cabin. The three of you split the duties of watch and throughout the night you can hear Thanim moving about the cabin tending to his companions...he is up most of the night and it is not until the purple orange haze of dawn sets in that Thanim finally settles down in the cabin.

As the dawn comes Maja awakens and goes to the stream and works on gathering ingredients for the soup she intends on making.

When done praying to Pelor, he returns to the cabin, checks his patients once more, and lies down to get some sleep.

If so any we use we will need to put in boiling water as Thanim stated that is the way to ensure they will not make us sick. She looks at the side of the cabin...There is a smaller cooking pot I will go get it and then go to the stream and grab water and set it to boil. If you could round up some bowls and spoons once you are done we can eat and get some food in our sick friend's bellies.

She walks off and grabs the small cooking pot and heads back down to the stream on the same path. The stream is only a short distance away from the cabin and camp (maybe twenty yards are so). She leans over and dips the pot in and cleans it out and then dips it back in so that it fills with water. She looks around the stream , stands back up, and makes her way back to the camp and hangs the pot over the fire. Maja puts a few more pieces of wood on the fire and stokes the embers.

Harry

As Thanim finishes his prayers and goes to gather his blankets he arranges them and goes to sleep. A few moments after the Priest of Pelor drifts off into slumber the cabin is quiet. Embers glow and the occasional pop and crackle break the silence in the room for brief moments.

Harry's body seems to go taunt and then his hands react as if waving off something. He begins to mumble something under his breath...incoherent strings of nonsense...broken bits of verse of some unknown language.

Harry's Second Dream:

Harry awakens...he pops up and sees the cabin is completely empty. Daylight spills inside the two small windows and the fire seems to roar in the fireplace. The half-dwarf rises realizing his mouth is dry and wondering where his friends were...where Thanim was. He sees a pitcher of water and cups on a side table.

As he approaches the water pitcher and cups he sees something move out of the corner of his vision...near the far corner of the fireplace. He turns and sees nothing in the room... He stands there for a few moments staring at the room. He then turns and grabs the pitcher and cup and pours himself water. He takes two long draws from the cup. The water is fresh and cool to his lips and tongue. He goes to take his third drink to finish the cup the taste is salty...metalic and he looks down into the cup and sees the bottom is filled with fresh blood...dark blood...he drops the cup and steps back. Wiping his lips he looks down at his hand covered in smeared blood. He turns quickly to the door. The room seems small, tiny, tight, confining. As he turns he realizes the door is open...it wasn't open a moment ago...and there standing in the doorway is a man...a farmer...an old farmer...but covered in boils. Black, blood filled, puss covered boils; the man's eyes were clouded over...the pupils dead to the world. He steps forward toward Harry and the half-dwarf steps back quickly not knowing what to do as he does he steps into someone else behind him. Harry's head snaps over his shoulder and sees a woman covered in the plague and blood; her mouth opens as if to engulf his face...wider than it should...the smell of death, rot, and a smell of vileness...

Harry jerks awake...covered in sweat...his hair soaked..his muscles in his shoulder and arms burning from being tensed for too long. His fingers ache and he looks down and he can see where his fingertips had scraped the floor causing the tips of his fingers to bruise and redden.

Everyone initially infected has made their first save thanks to Thanim's care. Your second save will need to be made today. If you choose to stay in the cabin and under Thanim's care you can use Thanim's heal roll in place of your fortitude roll. Thanim will need to make a Fortitude Save for being in contact.

Maja has soup prepared but you will need to find bowls(and spoons if you like) to partake in the soup.

Glancing down at his bruised fingers with a look of incomprehension he spends a long time trying to piece together what his fevered mind experienced.

A dream...or something else...the EVIL, I felt it! Why did I feel it? The magic in me veins?

He calls out to his two fellow patients, his voice croaking at a level barely above a whisper...

"Dream...did ye dream...what...dream did....did...ye..."

If bowls can be found then Harry can use his Mage Hand spell to 'serve' the other patients and himself.

He checks on his patients then he looks to take care of himself. Without his own strength, he knows he will be unable to care for others. He walks outside, "What are we doing for food?"

Maja

She turns to Thanim after wiping here hands off and stirring the soup. I need bowls and spoons if you have them. I can clean them in the boiling water as you recommended. I have some water ready on the fire but I need bowls to serve everyone...seven if you have them. You can put them on a cloth or rag and I will put the whole thing in the pot.

Thanim can smell the soup and his stomach grumbles in response.

Cerilis and Perri

As the two of you awaken you notice Thanim is out on the porch speaking to Maja and Harry begins to ask you questions as he rises; clearly shaken from something...As he continues to talk something from behind each of you seems to whisper in your ears.. Harry's talking seems to sound as if coming from a long hallway; he seems miles away now.

The whisper:
At first it is incomprehensible, like a babbling of sort and then it seems to become clear... He is a deceiver...don't tell him. He is a liar...he is the one that brought this sickness on you. You turn, but not quickly so not to bring attention on yourself. There is nothing there but the whisper seems so real. It was there...you could feel the cold breath on your ear and neck.

Suddenly Harry's voice snaps you back into the moment and his voice seems to be booming, loud, and echoing off the walls of the small cabin.

At Maja's request, Thanim turns and head backs inside the cabin. He briefly looks at his patients to confirm that they are not in immediate need, then he rummages through the cabin's items for bowls, spoons, and a rag. (Assuming he finds them) He neatly stacks them, places them on the rag, and takes them out to Maja, "Here you are. Bowls for a soup that is smelling so good right now. Didn't realize how hungry I am. I'm sure the others are as well." He stands there a moment making small talk, not quite ready to go back in. "They are doing reasonably well. It will take some time, but we're going to come out all right." He looks around once more, shrugs his shoulders, and returns to the cabin.

Maja

Maja walks up to Thanim pats him on his back. We are lucky to have the blessing of Pelor and your skill to tend to them. She looks into the cabin and back at Thanim. I will bring you up some bowls in a few minutes and put them on the porch for you along with some fresh water. Make sure you eat and get some rest.

She walks back puts the utensils and bowls along with the rags in the boiling water. She checks the soup and gives the items in the boiling water a few minutes. After a few moments, she pulls them out dries them off over the fire and stacks them up and lays out the utensils. Come get some breakfast while it is hot. She pours four bowls leaving four on the ground. She takes her time and puts all four bowls of soup with a spoon for each on the porch. Thanim, the soup is ready. Drew some lines on the map to illustrate what I'm thinking. Also put a firepit at the bottom of the chute. My thinking there is that it would be unlit. Once the dogs start to enter the chute, we light it to keep them from getting to the cabin. We distribute the remaining pits for light and use the remaining barriers to reinforce weak points. Perhaps use a pole or ladder in the front of the cabin to get up to the roof.

Feel free to edit or put up something entirely different.

Edit: According to my reading of the topography, the 5' and 10' lines meet to essentially form a cliff or wall that runs kind of southwest to northeast about 50' north of the cabin. This will help funnel the dogs into the chute as well.

Threw up a bunch of stakes to simulate Thanim's proposal, does that seem about right? Assuming the south and east side of our cabin is safe, I think this basically creates a single narrow pathway into the cabin.

I made a couple of slight adjustments to widen the opening to the cabin front area. One thing we could use is an escape route in case we get overwhelmed, which I put in at the left side of the cabin where the privy is located.

Feel free to veto these changes if you want.

If we want to have the opening be that large, we should probably use the top right barricade elsewhere. My concern about the escape route is that if it's an exit, it's an entrance. We'll need to have someone specifically defend there.

It is a topographical map. The lines represent height the width from one line to the other represent slope. So lines right on top of each other would be a cliff or steep incline. Lines with greater distance between each line represents slope. I put some notes in pink for you to see. You are essentially in a small glade/valley between several hills and a stream. Nice and private but not easily defensible.

Remember the trees have trunks so if you put a barricade in the same square as a tree you get some additional fortification.

Also just a note...fires outside the barricades will need to be supplied with wood throughout the night.

The flaw with my approach, as AllenDM pointed out, is in keeping the firepits fed. That would require people periodically leaving the protected area and feeding the fires. With so few people, that is problematic, so I have significantly modified the design. Please review and make alterations. The idea is to keep them to the northeast.

I know I just proposed the lame idea of tying Harry up. I don't actually want to do that at some level because that could simply take a player out of what looks to be our first combat. But it does kind of seem like Harry could turn on us.

So we could decide to tie him up, but be ready to cut him loose when the attack comes and we confirm Harry is still in control.

Thoughts?

Thanim is not ok with tying up Harry. He's been caring for them, and though there have been some unusual symptoms, there is nothing that has made him afraid for his own (or anyone else's) safety. He is philosophically opposed to such restraints unless there is an obvious danger or escape risk. He just wants Harry to continue his recuperation.

Under CURRENT EVENTS in the Campaign Short Description, I have set up a COMBAT MANAGER spreadsheet. There is a tab for the Baltron's Beacon Campaign and any complex or large encounter will be handled through that so everyone can look at it and tell what is going on as far as Initiative, which round it is, who has gone, and the status of the players, NPC's and such. The YELLOW HIGHLIGHT on ROUND column tells you which round it is. Each round that is completed and the current one will be marked in yellow. The YELLOW HIGHLIGHT in the COMBAT MANAGER # indicates who has gone. Once it has fillup we start the next round. If a PC or NPC Ready or Delays it will be noted along with the action (if needed). To the left are the PC, NPC, and Encounter initial initiative rolls. I will add the link in at times as well during combat so that you can get to it easily.

I will have a some posts up later today for us.

I just re-read Stinking Cloud and learned the nauseated effect lasts for rounds after leaving the cloud. As a result, I would have had Maja use Twist Away based on knowing how that thing works. Which means she's staggered. Which means her movement to the door ended her turn.

Sorry to complicate things, but trying to be fair. She's pretty useless anyway while this remains a ranged battle.

What do you think?

@AllenDM - What is your take on communal touch spells? As in, do all the recipients have to be adjacent at casting? Or can the caster use his move action to run around touching allies? My understanding of the rules is that to touch more than one, they must all be adjacent, and it takes a full action (combining the casting and multiple touches). But I wanted to check with you.

That has been our baseline so I have no issue with that. I will add that to our HR's.

I enjoy grunts. Rangers and Fighters are my go-to, currently. One of my all-time favorites was a Fighter-Rogue multi-class dual-wielding bastard swords with no thieving skills, but so much stealth that he had a positive modifier in his full plate. We developed a stock tactic, where the heavily armored, extremely dexterous fighter would charge THROUGH the enemy to the back lines, and then accept incoming spells from the party cleric, like, Silence 15' radius. Emasculated a LOT of enemy spell casters that way.

It seems that Paizo is finally back up from their "2-4 hour" maintenance. They are getting as bad as the cable companies.

I will have a post up later tonight.

Got me looking over the character again in greater detail, and either I'm not seeing something now, or I took a Feat I shouldn't have. Martial Mastery. It has had no effect to this point, so a correction shouldn't cause a paradox.

Am I missing something now, or was that a mistake I made that wasn't caught?

If I read the chart correctly, it requires the Weapon Group Focus feat, which I don't see anywhere, but I could certainly replace it with on a one-for-one basis. Maybe. The feats at 3+ all look to be placed where they are based on pre-reqs. Might have to look for something completely different.

The new feat is MARTIAL MASTERY which merges Weapon Focus, Weapon Group Focus, and Greater Weapon Focus into one feat.

To gain the feat you simply need to meet the prereq for Weapon Focus. Weapon Group Focus means at BAB+3 you gain WF on the entire group (no additional bonus is granted for the individual weapon. The +1 Attack is simply applied to all the weapons in that weapon's group now. Only fighters gain the additional ability at 8th level of Greater Weapon Focus which is another +1 to attack roll for that specific weapon.

I am seriously considering changing the prereq for Weapon Finesse... We had that in place (BAB +2) based on some old notions in our RL group and to be honest I really like the idea of just requiring a DEX14 and no BAB restrictions for WF but have the BAB+2 to gain AM.

The original reasoning was to give the edge to Rogue and Monk builds early on but honestly the more I review the rule the more I don't like it. If a fighter wants to start a finesse build I really think they should be able to do it at first level. Any thoughts on that from anyone?

Weapon Finesse/Agile Maneuvers -

Prereq - WF: DEX 14
AM: BAB +2

[edit] Just so you know the reason I bring this up is I am going back and forth with one of my RL friends I game with about this as he is getting ready to start a campaign up with his local group and they are using our House Rules. We are debating a few topics and this came up.

House Rules Male Half Dwarf Sorcerer (Elemental Bloodline Water) 6th level. 39 hp Healthy (29), Grazed (20), Wounded (10), Crit (<10); F +4 | R +3 | W +6 | AC 14/18 | 12 touch | 13 flat | init: +1 | Perception +7 | Low-light' |
Resources:
Elemental Ray 6/6; Spells: 1st 6/7, 2nd 6/6, 3rd 4/4

I second your opinion AllenDM. I would set the BAB requirement to +1 which allows the fighter to start the build at first level while still excluding rogues and monks to picking it up at second level.

M Human (Varisian) | HP:11/11 | AC15, T11, FF14 CMD15 | F+3, R+1, W+0 | Speed 20' | Init: +1 | Perc+1, SM+1 Fighter (Base) 1

Check. I got tripped up by the fact Paizo has published a feat called Martial Mastery with some VERY hefty pre-reqs. Human Level 16 Fighter is pretty specific . . ..

Yes, I encourage the availability of Weapon Finesse early. Agile Maneuvers has always struck me as a pointlessly weak feat. If you are already using a Finesseable weapon (and you have Weapon Finesse), then it gives you nothing. So, it only matters when using a combat maneuver that doesn't use a weapon, which in my experience is pretty rare, unless you are already playing a Strength build.

Male Half-dwarf Cleric 6 | HP 57 | DR 2/- | AC.T.FF 21.12.16 | F.R.W 8.4.9 | CMD 18 | Init 2 | P 5, SM 13

Rogues and Monks get Weapon Finesse at 1st level under the unchained and house rules, so there is no restriction there. The 14 Dex requirement is fine, but honestly, anyone wanting to spend a feat on Weapon Finesse will have at least a 14 Dex. I don't see a big reason to hold back either Weapon Finesse or Agile Maneuvers in and of themselves; however, since they have been combined into one feat, I understand delaying one of them until BAB +2. I would consider letting the player decide which one to take right away, and which to delay until BAB +2.

Rogue, Monk, and Swashbuckler get weapon finesse at first level.

The original intent in our rule was not to weaken those classes but in all honesty, it really doesn't weaken them... And those classes get the AM.

I don't know if it changes anything for our party, but unlocking Weapon Finesse seems fine to me!

I will have a post up tomorrow morning for us.

Sorry about that. I had to jump on a work call in the AM and have been going all day.
