We'll miss you, Magna. Sorry you had to go.
I very much would like to keep Magna as an NPC - she's a fantastic character and has had a tremendous role in helping shape our shared world's history. I'd hate to lose her.
Vosil Comarenza |
What the others said - best of luck, Magna. Sorry you won't be seeing out the next chapter of Stolen Lands, Stolen Hearts!
Maybe see you on other threads.
Talia Khavortorov |
So, Edric, you mentioned wanting to change rolls from the diplomat position - you want to be Fairhaven's General?
Vosil Comarenza |
Just looking at the spreadsheet: if we move Edric from Diplomat to General, that's fine; they're both keyed off his prime stat, Cha. We then need a new Diplomat (Cha or Int); and ideally a Royal Enforcer (Str or Dex).
Suggestion: a dwarf as Royal Enforcer? We're missing a representative of that race with Magna's departure, and it might be a way to get the Brighthammers on board. Plus they're familiar with the law of the River Freedoms...
Still need a Diplomat, though - and that's assuming we get the 3 councillors back.
Talia Khavortorov |
Welcome back, Gav!
I'm back now, posts incoming. Thanks for the patience!
Old Guy GM |
WB Talia. I think there are collective breaths being held waiting for Talia's response. Should be good...no pressure.
On another note: in retrospect, I don't think that the plan of exploring on one timeline and kingdom-building on another was such a good idea. I'm thinking I should have stuck with my original plan of giving you a year of building, then going out. I'd like your thoughts. My opinion is that this is even more confusing than I'd thought it would be.
Yet another note: Gav is back, but we still need a govt position filled. We can get another NPC or another player. I'm leaning toward another player. Thoughts on this? I do have someone in mind: great RP, easy going player.
Vosil Comarenza |
Talia: awesome post, did not disappoint.
OGGM: I would like to hear from the 'original' (for want of a better word) players, i.e. Talia, Nara, Dregan (Kaalib?) to know that they're still happy. After all, in a short space of RL time, quite a lot has happened: Gav and Magna disappeared; Edric and I joined; Magna reappeared; Kaalib has fallen away (although still present); Magna left; and now Gav is back.
I will go with whatever they decide they're happy with.
Kaalib/Gavriil: while we're on the subject, what's the plan for you guys - are you present only for kingdom-building thread, or will you be adventuring in the other thread as well?
Talia Khavortorov |
Still happy!
I'm fine with another player if OGGM and the other PCs want to go that direction (and run 8 PCs!), but honestly I think I'd prefer the NPC - I like the challenges that they present us. However, I don't want to stand in the way of another player joining either, if that's what others want (especially OGGM - it is your workload more than anyone else's after all).
For kingdom building, we need the general position filled (or diplomat if Edric wants it? - he wanted to abdicate the diplo position a while back), and we need the royal executioner filled as well (BUT that doesn't incur any penalties). If OGGM and the other players decide to not grow the group, then I'm fine waiting for an NPC to fill that spot organically.
Also, if Kaalib takes control of the Sootscales, we'll need a treasurer (which could probably be filled by Oleg?).
Gavriil |
I'm fine with another player or an npc. The only thing that I gotta say is that I'm assuming we'll be taking leadership to boost our scores when we can... Which means cohorts... Which means an entire platoon for characters steam rolling the greenbelt and bogging combat down.
As to keeping the separate timelines, I think we should keep them all in one. With combat and exploration, there's a real chance that characters may die a month before where we are at in the kingdom building... Which could be a problem.
And Vosil, Gav's going to go adventuring as well. I just can't right now because all the adventuring is taking place a month before he even gets there.
Vosil Comarenza |
Ha, yes of course!
OGGM: I like the separate kingmaking/adventuring threads, but why not tie them in time-wise? Say that each month/turn, we get to do the normal kingdom stuff plus explore one hex...after all, we're in the ruling business now, we can't just camp out every night in the cold and the wet. Disappointing I know, but we're just going to have to get used to warm beds and comfort.
"I can face this peril!"
"No you can't, it's too perilous..."
EDIT: Oh, and I won't be taking Leadership. I don't have enough feats.
Vosil Comarenza |
Bear in mind though that those feats are all I have - no spells, no Inspire Courage/Satire, no Panache, no spells, no Deeds, no Lay on Hands, no Smite Evil, no spells, no Favoured Enemy/Terrain, no spells...
My feats are what I have to rely on in order to make me more useful than, say, Naralesh's Convenient Summoned Mooks (and frankly, as of now, the NCSM have upstaged me considerably) - I can't afford to spend them lightly.
(this isn't a complaint, BTW; I picked Lore Warden knowing what I was getting into and I'm happy with how he's turning out so far. And a day may come when the NCSM will fail and I will be hailed badass supreme! But it is not this day.)

Bah! Who needs magic when you can just brute your way through an encounter!
I get what you're saying. No, worries!
If it makes you feel any better, Gavriil's daring night infiltration mission to save Talia was mostly just him and a bandit slashing air near each other while Dregan, Magna, and Kenji (correct me if I'm wrong on the name Nara) utterly destroyed all the rest. He didn't even end up killing the bandit! Dregan got him to surrender and that's the bandit that ended up being Nat the farmer.
Actually... now that I think of it, up until the first bandit camp we found, Gavriil didn't do much except sing and complain about the work.
Vosil Comarenza |
Heh. That makes me feel better. It's true, though: if you want to be effective in combat from the get-go you either need to be a high-Str beat em up or a high-Dex shoot em up. Anything else takes a while to become effective.
That's my excuse, anyway and I'm sticking with it as long as required! :-)
Vosil doesn't sing, though. He just recites the gloomier bits of Guillaume of Galt.

Haha, yep. Nat owes his life to the dicebot. Don't forget that Gav was also running away from Oleg's when he ran into Magna and Kenji on the road and decided to give this whole adventuring thing another go.
Of course, the written histories will reflect none of this!

Great stuff! The events of this game have clearly left an impression on its participants (literally, in Naralesh's case)!

Vosil Comarenza |
Sorry, having crazy week. Will post as I can; bot as required.
Vosil Comarenza |
Good luck! Although I'm sure you don't need it.
Vosil Comarenza |
Gav/Nara/Edric: no pressure guys, but don't +-&% this up, m'kay?
Last thing we need is the Independent Dwarven People's Republic of Toragstan on our doorstep gold mine...
Vosil Comarenza |
Not to be confused with the Dwarven People's Front.
Splitters.
Talia Khavortorov |
I'm kind of tickled by Talia's reaction if the mine is lost over a drinking contest. I'm not sure exactly what her reaction would be, but I imagine it would be parts flabbergastedness, stammering, anger, and a migraine.
So win or lose, it is a win-win from my perspective!
Vosil Comarenza |
"He's not the divine emissary of Torag, he's a very naughty boy."
Works for Talia's reaction, too, I suppose.
Vosil Comarenza |
Awesome, well done everyone! And thanks to OGGM for some great memorable scenes.
So...onward to Turn 5?
Gavriil |
That sounds good to me, OGGM.
Since we're talking about turn 5, what are we doing with the positions? Are we putting Edric in the General role and Gav in the Diplomat role?Gav can take either role stat wise, but I do think Edric would make a better general RP wise. Gav doesn't exactly have the discipline.
Also, are we hand waving this or going to rp it out since a lot has happened? I'm cool with whichever you guys want.
Talia Khavortorov |
It would be fun to RP, but we could probably spoiler it/skip it if people want to get moing. Talia's not going to know what to think when Gav tells the story of how you three won the hearts and minds mines of the dwarves, but it will probably end up in Gav getting the job.
So, yes, Edric to general and Gav to diplomat works for me. I think they're both well-suited for the roles.
Vosil Comarenza |
Fine, I'll make the edits to the spreadsheet.
I have just been called away with work to the other side of the world (like 8 time zones away). I'll be travelling today and will have intermittent access to internet.
I'll do what I can to keep posting, but apologies for any lag in dealing with things. I'll be there until 12 June or so. Sorry about this.
Vosil Comarenza |
OK, Turn 5 start:
Economy 20
Loyalty 15
Stability 18
Unrest 0
Consumption 0
Treasury 11
Control DC 26
Someone needs to make a Stability check first.
Gavriil |
Getting things started Stability: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (19) + 18 = 37
Dregan rolled for stability in the gameplay thread.
I don't know if we decided on what exactly we're spending our moola on yet. I vote what Kaalib said. It seems like a good thing to do. Maybe without the army if it's going to cost too much, though. I don't think I have anything to roll as the Grand Diplomat, but if it's needed someone roll for me since I'll be out of town for a few days.
Talia Khavortorov |
We'll follow Kaalib's plan - do we need an economy check now?
Vosil Comarenza |
I'll be home tomorrow, can update spreadsheet then.
EDIT: And Kaalib, that PowerPoint presentation was brilliant!
