It's easily exploited by the min-maxer, and it's easily abused by inexperienced or inconsiderate players.
It's also a great combination of RP-opportunity and combat utility if done right.
It's up to the GM, though. I won't take any offence or read anything into it if you'd rather not go down that road. ;)
To be honest, the main reason I'm usually against Leadership is because I run large games in RL: 6-10 players is typical. The group simply doesn't need another player. It's bad enough with animal companions, eidolons, etc.
I've never considered the arguments Praxim makes, but they make sense. I don't have that concern with this group, so that wouldn't be why I'd say no.
My one thought is that if we go with a cohort, I won't recruit a new player. That does keep someone out who would normally get a chance.
Forgive me if you guys already talked about it, I'm replying to each as I read through the 35 posts I missed!

I will be putting up a new campaign thread just like I did for this one. Most likely with the super-creative title: OGGM's Fortress of the Stone Giants. I'll have a link when it's ready.
I do want to go through the loose threads before we do though. Stick with Kellen's list? I can put a long exposition to wrap it up. Any communication with Magnimar will happen in the new thread.

By the way, re the loot. May I assume the Necromancy spellbook goes to me? ;)
Sweet! :D DONE!

I will go with whatever the group decides on this, but the more I thought about this over the weekend:
I wouldn't mind if we wanted to go with a new recruit. I understand that it can be a hassle and that we might have someone back out. But then considering Javell and I were pop-up recruits, I can sympathize with the notion that we might have someone interested in playing and may add some good character. It can go either way; just my two cents.

A secondary thing I was thinking about:
From an RP standpoint, I saw Kellen's reasons as coming in here to fulfill a certain obligation to Magnimar by joining this group and their mission. While it didn't work out so well for his plans, he stuck it through to help the town; Black Arrows; etc. That job is over now; and generally speaking, he's got "no dog in the fight" when it comes to Sandpoint or what it means.
I am still interested in playing him and continuing on, FYI. Just saying that from an RP standpoint, if I play him as a bit of selfish jerk I don't anyone thinking "I the player" wants out. I am sure he'll stick around for personal reasons if people are at risk; that's part of what concerns him about what was doing before he joined up. He just may not admit in such a way.
Anyhow, just some rambling on my part.

Ah, but what about the knowledge of what the lamia was up to? Sacrifices? Runelords? The plot gets bigger and bigger...

I guess I should say he could be curious - especially when lives are at risk; he's never been afraid to risk to protect innocents or victims. He was ready to chase Kaven down to the bottom of a lake because he thought the SOB was guilty of getting the whole garrison killed.
But he's coming into this mid-stream; he knows something is going on that they dealt with. I think it would be more a matter of him saying: "why is Sandpoint important again" from a person coming into this outside what happened in books 1 & 2 as a whole story.

Sorry, folks. I totally messed that up.
OG, would you please delete Javell from the "players" tab? I'd appreciate it.
Thanks!
Praxim |
GM, is this feat okay for Praxim to take?
Of course, most of us have deflection rings, so the +3 bonus from Praxim's Charisma wouldn't be that helpful.
I think I'll just go with Greater Mercy, which adds an extra +1d6 to his Lay On Hands when he doesn't use a mercy. Since he's never used a mercy so far this campaign, I think it's safe to say it's a nice boost to that ability, and it's a pre-req to that nice feat that lets him use LoH to raise someone from the dead.

OK - Kellen's been updated. Some additional bonuses for combat damage; tuned up the character for the new bow; added Mobility and Point Blank Shot (since the 30' range also helps sneak attack as well). Potentially ready for Spring Attack and Shot on the Run feats if I add another fighter level to help melee and range abilities.

Per the legend on the Varisia map, its about 300 miles if you can travel in a straight line from Turtleback Ferry to Magnimar.
If you are forced to follow an existing trail, more like 380-400 miles.
If there's a reference in the book, I can't say - I just mapped it with a ruler and the legend.
Lym Blackhand |
That's about right, Alex. 400 or so by my reckoning. Why do you ask, Lym?
To calculate the distance we need to travel through the Plane of Shadows. It'll be about 8 Shadow-miles.

I have another player. She's willing to run an arcane caster - sorceress I believe. I've played in games with her before, and I've been her GM, she's good. She'll fit right in.
I look forward to meeting her, then. ^_^

Works for me. Beats the heck out of a week long recruit.

Question for OGGM: given that I can potentially provide flight capacity to the whole party on a daily basis, does that mean everyone can take ranks in Fly?
