Thinking that control of your body, acceleration, inertia, when to tense and relax, etc... But if it is a pre defined mechanic, sure noproblem. Sandru just gets... screwed.

I'm going to be at a con this weekend, and am not sure how much access I'll have. (Haven't checked if hotel internet is free.) Currently engaged in packing; will try to catch up with Gameplay thread before I have to go dark.

@Network - Did Quinn's arrows do damage? Initially I read that the arrows were eaten up by the Future Elspeth. After re-reading the post it says 25 damage. Are my eyes playing tricks on me? Not sure if the post was updated or I'm extremely tired.

Network |

Tired, Quinn. :) I wrote Elspeth's body eating the arrows (along with the 25 damage text) to represent DR. In other words, your arrows did hit and cause some damage, it's just her wounds closed around them (wounds closing - sort of like instantaneous healing to lessen the damage). Sorry, I should have been more clear and written the DR in the out of combat text.

@Sandru - Lol, thanks. You can choose P-11 as your subjective "down" direction for this turn, and can charge (push against the gravitational field...falling faster towards your opponent?) I originally played around with the idea of light gravity or something for this encounter, which might have hindered that, but decided it was too complicated.
What I effected is a compromise between weightlessness and gravitational ballast to push yourselves against, so you can move. It ends up being more like a stasis field or something. The main effects are 1) the flavor of movement (falling through space towards opponents), and 2) you can choose to fall "up" to the room (which is probably of limited consequence, but came into play with Caromarc using the rope to bypass the DC check to switch directions).
Same rolls as usual?
Also, added some Dr. Who music for Caromarc's teleporting. :)

OMG. Another Whovian? Been watching that show since Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker. Got my wife and kids into the new series with Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant and Matt Smith. Sorry for going down Nerd Road.

So...I submitted an entry into the rpg superstar contest, and didn't get to round 2. Let's face it, it's a case of genius unrecognized in its time, lol. ;)
This was my entry. You may notice 1) the glaring typo "vertical services" instead of "vertical surfaces" (I submitted it at work when my attention was divided...smart move), 2) the rules I play with are interesting, imo, but my handling of the mechanics was boring (I erred on the side of caution), and 3) some people probably thought it was weird. Maybe they hate halflings. Maybe they hate riding on gorillas. Who knows?
*goes to lab, dons Lex Luthor battle armor, shakes fist at the sky*
I think the concept has pizzazz. Screw the haters! :)
And now...without further adieu...
Halfling Swingsaddle of the Gorilla
Aura faint transmutation; CL 5th
Slot none; Price 8,000 gp; Weight 30 lbs.
Description
This brown leather saddle is embroidered with stitching in the shape of a four-leaf clover. The saddle permits its owner to ride apes as mounts, even up vertical services when the ape is climbing. The ape's climbing speed is unimpeded while bearing the rider. The saddle is flexible and weighted at the bottom, and maintains the rider in an upright position at all times. The saddle provides a +2 circumstance bonus to Ride checks related to staying in the saddle, and the rider does not take the -5 penalty for Ride checks for non-standard mounts. If knocked unconscious while in the saddle, the rider has a 50% chance to stay in the saddle.
Construction
Requirements Craft Wondrous Item, cat's grace, creator must be a halfling; Cost 4,000 gp
PS. I know I made the top 75% of entries, because I saw this item after they removed the bottom quarter. I think I'll post it to the critique my item threads and we can watch people hit it like a piñata.

@Caromarc - Thanks, and thanks for suggesting the contest.
@Sandru - Maybe... :)
This was my design process.
1) Hey, a saddle that lets you ride monkeys!
2) Oh wait, monkeys are too small. Hey, a saddle that lets you ride gorillas!
3) Feelings of self-satisfaction.
4) Sigh. Gorilla? I wish it was monkeys.
5) Um, this is too short. I need more words. Waits around until no one is looking...*cut and paste*...whistles and nonchalantly walks away.
Oh well, live and learn. I have a better sense of the contest and how to do it, so we'll see!
Thank goodness I didn't submit my next most winningest idea...The Plentiful Turkey of Abundance. (This was a turkey that cooked for your party, like Alice on Brady Bunch. It gets mad if you're late to a meal. Sort of had the same personality as Alice too. You know this is showing up to help you fight Hareton, j/k.)

Now, a little saddle that could fit on one of those grinder monkeys... with the fez. And, whammo... ENLARGE! Good times!
Watch out for those cymbals! Fort Save DC13 or STUNUNUN-N-NED!
Or a Saddle of Any Mount (transformation) adjusts to any "suitable" mount. Careful boys, could get kinky!

Kwanjan Quinn |

A saddle to ride a great ape?.... I like it. It's different. Who would of thought to ride a gorilla. Horses, dragons, unicorns, giant lizards, wild boars,....it's all been done. Now riding a gorilla....classic. Thinking of the imagary of a halfling riding a great ape while it's climbing....or charging. I see extra bonus while charging, maybe extra damage or knockback.

...Now I'm reminded of Reins of Ascension, the cheap throat slot flight item from MIC that didn't specify only mounts could wear it...
Also? The monkey has a fez now. Fezzes are cool.

Kwanjan Quinn |

hehehe. I was just thinking that the possibilities are endless with the gorilla concept. Gorilla mount can make a special long range attack by flinging it's own feces at a target. "If you have any poo, fling it now." Upon successful hit the target will need to make a DC 10 fortitude save. Failure will cause the target to loose 1d2 rounds due to gagging. Also, target will suffer a -2 on all charisma based skills until the substance is washed away.

La Siréene |

Huh. With that attack roll, maybe Heatstroke won't be necessary. Ah well.
The -6 Str and Dex from Exhaustion a nasty debuff. Best part is, Fatigue stacks, even if a foe makes its save versus Exhaustion, I memorize 2 per day, so I could cast a second Heatstroke give it Exhaustion the next turn anyway.
I like touch attack debuff spells.

La Siréene |

Void creature is a new breakout star. :)
I love the Void Creature, but it won't be any help against the brood - it wants to feast on its kill, and La Siréene is not going to argue about that until she figures out what the hell it is.
It does weird me out a bit that Giant Slicer Beetle is not on the Summon Nature's Ally list, especially since it is so similar in stats to the Rhinoceros, but maybe the writers figured it was redundant with the Giant Stag Beetle on the same level list.
Incidentally, I'd love to be able to summon this, or another, Void Creature again.
