Anyone want to do anything in particular in this room, even with the high perception rolls, you've noticed nothing interesting as yet, apart from the horrible day old meat smell....

Malik checks out the counter in the room. Perhaps there is something to find about
a) the hygiene of the meat display
b) anything else at the counter.
The hygiene leaves something to be desired, but then again, it's what you would expect from a group of guardsmen, probably they have even been making an effort......there is nothing else striking about the place.

You enter a hallway stairs to your left lead up behind you. There is a door to your right and a double door, approx 30ft away at the end of the hallway.

Perception check (1d20+7=12) yep, Reth follows up and matches Cal's stellar performance
Distracted by the fact that Cal in a huff takes the lead Reth fails to notice anything and whispers louder than he intends too, "Careful, they probably live upstairs over the shop."

Stealth,Perception (1d20-1=7, 1d20+2=18)
Treading somewhat heavily as he moves forward to provide support to the headstrong young lady, Ward continues to keep an eye out for trouble and to try to get in the way of any attackers. Thats still full defensive actions to start any combat at the moment.

'Now what's her problem?' Atherton wonders as Calandra moves further into the shop. He sighs as Reth follows her with equally little stealth.
I'll stay at the door as long as I'm within thirty feet of the rest of the group. After that I'll follow them.
Ok, that means you follow into the hallway as they go through the double doors, what if they go upstairs, or through the other door? you will loose track of them in those cases, so do you follow?
A few moments after Cal enters the hall, you hear a crash from upstairs.
Ward:
The crash sounds like something bumping into furniture, a bang, followed by a small scrape. this is also followed by the sound someone swearing under their breath.

Upon seeing Calandra pause in indecision at the sudden noise Reth sighs and heads up the stairs. As he leaves Malik he whispers, "Malik, If you'd be ready with that spell to knock em' out when they try and stick blades in me I'd appreciate it." A half-smile crossing his face and some of his usual lighter demeanor returning.

As you reach the top of the stairs you enter the first upstairs room. The room extends a further 10ft in front of you and 10 behind, past the stairs. In the other direction, it extends 25 ft. In the room there are a table and 4 chairs, a small chest, and a door leading behind you into another room.

Guess we need some sort of party order where people are type thing as it sounds like the space is quite cramped in parts.
Ward' will try to draw their attention, whilst still trying to provide ablative cover for the rest of the party.
Thats still full defensive by the way.

It is tight, assuming Reth stepped into the room , there is room for Ward and Malik on the stairs, after that people will have to start moving....

The four men pause at the arrival of Ward, visibly shaken by the sight of the Shoanti.

Oh, it's me, errm....yeah
As Ward shouts something in Shoanti, the 4 men look at each other, and charge as best they can at him, despite the fact that he is behind the banister, and hence in partial cover....one falling back to use his crossbow before the others close in.
Despite thier disarray, and obvious shaken-ness, the three men's swords make contact, and while Ward's armour deflects two of the blows, one passes through, putting a deep cut down the side of Wards face (3 points of damage). The fourth man's crossbow bolt embeds itself harmlessly in the wall behind ward's head.

Malik is pointing at the guard with the crossbow. An eldritch ball streaks from his outstretched hand across the room and hits the man in the chest.
Magic Missile, since there are too many guys in front of me for Color Spray.

Cursing, Reth moves a little to the side and shoots at one of the men. Both shots fly wide because he is tring to avoid hitting the Shoanti. "Malik, we are tryin to take them alive so if you get any, it would put the fear into them."
Rapid shot at guard (1d20+6=9, 1d8+3=11, 1d20+6=13, 1d8+3=5) I assumed a 13 still misses.

Actually, no. They were obviously in the process of donning armour, but haddn't finnished, and this guy is using a two handed weapon, so can't even use his shield....that means both arrows pierce flesh...
The four men grin as one at Reth's words, obviously pleased that this isn't a fight to the death.....The grin is still on the face of the man with the crossbow, even as he slumps to the floor, blood pooling from arrow wound.
One of the others cries out "Baldrago, NO!!"...

"All of you stop it, NOW!" She demands of all of the men, enemies and allies "We're here to talk, stop all this needless fighting" She implores as she rushes towards the slumped man with the crossbow.

As Cal pushes past Ward and Reth, the man who shouted runs to his friends aid. The other two men look totally confused by the mixed signals, and move to defend themselves more than to do any real damage.
Ward, you get an AOO for the guy running to his friend...

Malik pushes himself in front and readies a spell in case any of the others attack. His position is that he catches those in the corner and especially the one running to Cal in the cone of his Color Spray.
"If any of you three makes a motion to attack, you'll go down like the other. That... is a promise. But we don't want to harm you. It's your choice."

Calandra works quickly, staunching the blood and releasing a small sigh of relief. "Okay he should live, you can answer questions now" She tells the man beside her certainly.

Just waiting for Ward to AOO....Except he's fighting defensively....Ok so if both sides of a combat are fighting defensively, no-one is making any attack moves right?
Seeing that they are vastly outnumbered, the two men who remained fighting step back and drop their weapons. The man crouching by his friend looks at Calandra blankly and simply points at the door behind her, into the next room.

Cal gives a small nod and makes her way over to the door, sure that Verik has been alerted to their arrival she decides not to just and enter and instead knocks gently on the door. "Mr Vancaskerkin, we're here to talk business with you. Trust me, it will be worth your while" She announces certainly.

As Calandra knocks, the door creaks partially open. You can just see a desk in the room, with an ornate dagger pinning some papers down, but there is now answer from Vankaskerkin.

Calandra looks a little suspisciously at the men in the room but pushes the door open a little more any way. "Verik?" She tries again.
Perception check please.....This *is* a new room after all...

You see a little more desk, and still get no response from Vankaskerkin. The door swings the rest of the way open before sticking on the rough wooden floor.

Frowning slightly Calandra slips into the room and makes her way over to the desk, curiousity getting the better of her.
The desk is strewn with papers, that a quick glance show to be accounts. The dagger is an exquisite example of a silver dagger, pinning through one of the papers.

Taking the dagger Calandra turns and has a look around the room, not wanting to head out just yet just in case she's missing something, there had to be a reason the man pointed out this door in particular.
Well, lets give the others a chance to follow you first...
