PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION (Look at the cover of "River Into Darkness") Reth is a 6'1" Raven haired fairskinned human of pure Chelish descent. HIs hair is fairly long but well kept. He typically wears his explorers outfit to be ready to defend the city from raiders at a moments notice and typically carries his weapons and armor with him at most times. He has a scar that runs down the left side of his jaw from a Shoanti warriors axeblow that nearly took his head off. The shield he is using he took off the Shoanti warrior that gave him this scar and uses it both out of respect for the warrior he slew and as a warning to other Shoanti. He sports a few other smaller scars along his arms and torso from similar encounters. His bow was made in Imperial Cheliax and handed down to him from his father. He weighs in at 185 most of which is muscle but the fact that he stays mostly within the city except when going out on patrol has taken a bit of a toll on his physical endurance. BACKGROUND Spoiler:
Reth was born in and has always known Korsova as home. Reth feels strongly that Imperial Cheliax will return and it's support will usher in a golden age for Korvosa. He has a very skewed outlook on what happened historically with the Shoanti and the colonization of Korvosa due to his father telling him mostly lies to shine a positive light on Imperial Cheliax. While he doesn't hate Shoanti, he does see them as crude, uneducated, and barbaric to say the least who only understand that might makes right. His father had ties to House Endrin but kept his son far from the political maneuverings therein. He grew up in fairly wealthy environment and did not want for the basic necessities but was never happy and would look to the sky for his symbol of freedom the hippogryphs. When he first saw one of these beautiful creatures soaring so free above the city with it's rider he knew in his heart what he was meant for. Secretly without his fathers approval he would seek out any of the city guard, hellknights, or Sable Company that would show or teach him for a few coins procured without his fathers knowledge. After a traumatic experience where a Hellknight turned him over to the authorities for stealing (the fact that it was from his own father made no difference to the knight). His father had him released from the dungeons after two hellish nights. There are the first inklings that the Hellknights represent Imperial Cheliax's true face but Reth is still in denial about this. Since then he strickly stayed with training from the city guards and Sable Company. After volunteering to see the area outside the city walls (the next best thing to flying) he went with some patrols and encountered for the first time the Shoanti from the wrong end of their spears. Watching the brutality with which they fought cemented his ideas about these savages.
While fighting off a raid by the Shoanti Reth had to abandon his bow in his desperate dive to avoid a thrown waraxe that imbedded itself in the tree where his head had been. This warrior had just laid low two other rangers and now seeing his newest opponent disarmed the Shoanti warrior took out another waraxe and charged in for the kill stopping several arrows shot from Reth's fellow rangers with his shield. Throwing himself back against the tree the waraxe opened up a fiery cut along Reth's face. Reth quickly grabbed the haft of the waraxe in the tree and wrenching it free sunk it into the warriors chest. Reth buried the warrior out of respect for his fighting prowess and took the Shoanti's shield to both honor him and warn others. Recently, Reth's nephew Neras has gone missing and tenacious tracking and cracking heads has lead Reth to believe that someone called "Lamm" Has him. |
