You pass out into the bright sunlight of a korvosan day. The walkway extends a little under 90 feet round the building, and around to the far side of a docked ship.
The boat has obviously been here a long while. Barnacles cover the hull, and a distinct green line shows the high tide line on the hull some 7 or 8 feet below your feet, and a few feet above the waterline. The barge is held together mainly by the layers of old rope that moor it to the pilings that support the fishery and the wooden walkway you are on.
A single wooden doorway leading into the aft cabin bears a crude red painting of a fish.
As you approch the wreck, a dull thud can be heard, and even felt through the walkway, and seen around the pillings in the water below. Far in the distance, to the North and most likley in old Korvosa, a plume of smoke begins to rise.

Istas frowns at the sight. "I've never claimed to be a sailor," she tells the others, "Being from the Cinderlands and all, my people never had much use for ships. But judging by the looks of that thing, I can't imagine Lamm could sail anywhere in it. At least he won't be using that to sneak away..."
A single wooden doorway leading into the aft cabin bears a crude red painting of a fish.
"Looks like we go in there..." Istas points.
As you approch the wreck, a dull thud can be heard, and even felt through the walkway, and seen around the pillings in the water below. Far in the distance, to the North and most likley in old Korvosa, a plume of smoke begins to rise.
"What was that?" Istas asks aloud, "And what's with all that smoke over there?"
With no immediate answers forthcoming, the priestess suggests they make their way onto the boat and through the door marked with the red fish.
OOC: Apologies if I'm moving us along too quickly. It seems like I'm posting a bit more quickly than everyone. Should I scale back and give the rest of you a chance to jump in?

Atherton Dram wrote:Atherton glances briefly at the numerous slates. "False records," he mutters and then follows Istas, sighing as she kicks the door in, "There were better ways to do that you know. Quiter ways." Atherton glances out at the rickety walk. "Ladies first.""Stealth is unnecessary," Istas explains, "We clearly have Pharasma on our side. Jubrayl is rescuing the orphas as we speak. The gnome and Lamm's other accomplices fell to us easily...and in so doing, divulged all that we need to know."
She moves onto the slippery walk, testing the wood as she goes, and then looks back once more. "Can't you feel it, Atherton?" she asks with a touch of religious fervor in her eyes, "The goddess of fate is using us as the instruments of Gaedren Lamm's end. The pitcher holding the sacred water of his life is nearly full. And Pharasma will soon lift it to pour it forth into the great pool that is the afterlife."
"All I feel is like I'm about to fall into the damned water. Maybe you're right, maybe we're fated to end Lamm but we can't do that if he kills us. We defeated three hirelings, one of which was a cowardly gnome who begged for his life. Lamm wouldn't survive this long if he wasn't tough and at least a little smart. Plus he has that damned alligator and Desna only knows what other fun little surprises. You can walk in there with no element of surprise if you want, but trust me on this; your godess won't keep you alive if you just barge in there, and I won't be dying with you. We go in quite-like."

"We all go in with the talents that suit us best, Atherton," Istas replies, "It is the way of Pharasma to use those most applicable to the job. You and I wouldn't be here if our skills weren't needed. And you wouldn't be advising me of the need for stealth now if the goddess hadn't put you here for that specific reason. So, alright. We'll proceed as you advise...but if you truly want to control the manner in which we search, perhaps you should lead the way as I requested, rather than letting go in front?"

Calandra Oriana |

"We all go in with the talents that suit us best, Atherton," Istas replies,
Calandra gives a small smile and a shrug "I don't think I can sing and dance my way out of this one" She murmurs with a small bemused expression "but, I think Atherton is right. Stealth is probably the best way forward, never turn down an opportunity for an advantage."

Torillan nods his head in agreement, adjusting the grip on his swords.
"Lets proceed quietly, but space out. I don't like the look of this deck. I'm willing to go first, just don't leave me stranded!", he adds with a smile.

Could I have an init check from you please Torillan?
The air in this room is thick and musty. Thick sheets of cobwebs hang from the walls and mounds of blankets, cushions, and straw clutter the floor. A narrow flight of stairs leads down into the ship's hold. The room is about 15ft square, though tapers at the back with the shape of the ship.

Atherton stays at the door, looking around the room cautiously and keeping his crossbow at the ready.
Spot 19

Atherton Dram |

Atherton briefly takes aim at the large spider but decides it'd lead to to many questions if he accidentally shot his erstwhile companion. "Watch for spiders!" he hisses, looking around the room for more.
Init 18

Sorry for the delay
Init:
Spider: 25
Atherton: 18
Torillan: 10
Cal: 10
Malik: 8
Istas: 5
The spider again attempts to bite Torillan, this time though, half blinded by the sudden light, it gets his armour and does no damage.

Hmm, what's the chance that I'd hit Torillan if I fired my crossbow at the spider? Just the -4 for firing into a melee or a higher penalty?
Just the -4, its small size etc is taken into account with it's armour class.
You won't hit Torillan unless you aim at him I think...

Wow...this could get, umm.......ugly........ ;-)

Shiny then. Apologies in advance if I shoot you.;)
Atherton decides its worth the risks and fires at the spider attacking Torillan.

Atherton's bolt whistles past Toriallan's shoulder, but misses the spider as it switches course back around Torillan's groin and down one leg.
Torillan...
I'm just having some descriptive fun with this spider though, I'm not going to have you make grapple checks to get it off or anything stupid though. A round is 6 seconds after all, plenty of time to brush it off with one hand and get a good solid swing at it in.....

Torillan |

![]() |

Torillan is too busy trying to carefully jab the point of one sword into the spider without self-inflicting a wound to notice the bolt.
Almost spinning on the spot, and stabbing down, Torillan misses the spider, as it runs up his back.
Cal...

Calandra Oriana |

Biting down on her lower lip in concentration Calandra skirt closer and quickly flicks her dagger, trying her hardest to only hit the spider and not the poor fighter.
Attack (1d20=17)
Damage (1d4=1)
Wow, it looks like the dice really like that spider!

Malik Ventovi |

Malik waves his hands in an intricate pattern and utters sizzling sounds. A little blob of green liquid leaves the palm of his hand and streaks towards the tiny spider.
Acid Splash
Firing into melee; damage (1d20-3=9, 1d3=1)
The spider just runs a bit lower and the splash of acid misses its mark. "Darn."

Deciding to chance it again, Atherton takes careful aim and fires at the spider again.
Atk 14;Dmg 4 I'm guessing no dice.

Yay!!!
The spider drops to the deck in two seperate bits, still twitching, but now completely harmless.
Have 25Xp, that was fun.

"What? Just doin' my part." Atherton says with a smirk. "Oh, mind giving my crossbow bolt back? I don't want to be running out later on. I think it's in your boot.", going to retrieve his bolt from the wall.

The room Torillan stepped into is dark, but he made out the shape of stairs leading down.
So, who's going first? :)

Atherton frowns slightly, not much liking the idea of being at the front but wordlessly start cautiously going down the stairs with his crossbow held out.
As no one has mentioned any lights, I'm going to assume you have none lit...[ooc]
Atherton's form passes down into the darkness, taking care to be quiet, and slow, he passes into the black as though he was never there. [ooc]Atherton...
Dark, and dank the ships hold smells of mildew. Barrels, crates and containers can be seen scattered about the hold of the ship, in the thin streams of light piercing the hull.
Please make an init roll

That was the surprise round, the spiders have init, but don't do anything obvious as yet.

Ok, I still have the rest of you outside, as no one has followed Atherton....that makes him just about two rooms away...
