"Excellent! Hrungir, when I get some pix, I'll send them to your comm."
I think Dr. D gave us all comms? I'll assume that these are at least as good as any phone currently on the market.
"Alright, I'll set off."
Thomas turns invisible, Intangible, and starts flying toward where they indicated the sub would be.
He sends everyone a brief text. >>Make sure to stay awake and out of trouble! No getting arrested for petty crime while the Big Heist is going on!! =-)<<
Hrungir the Destined
Everyone can now "hear" Thomas as Hrungir taps into all their minds and joins them together.
The character can communicate with friends and allies via mental contact. This is a free action, has a range of one mile,
and she can contact as many minds at once as her Smarts die. Switchboard (+2): The telepath can link a number of minds equal to her Smarts to each other. All of the “guests” can hear
each other, however. Only the telepath can send or receive private messages.
GM_ZenFox42
The only "comms" I recall are the ear-buds that allow you to talk to each other, and hear what others are saying to another PC.
From the way you're all talking, it sounds like you all got to near the location via the vehicle that the Dr. left you, and you're all standing around somewhere nearby but out of sight? If not, Thomas would be flying for a *long* time in order to get there.... If you are all there, I'll provide a description of what you all see.
Also, Hrungir - I don't see anything in the description of your teleport requiring you to have a description of the location - are you just adding that for flavor? Also, what would be the point of teleporting directly into the building - you might set off alarms and/or alert guards by your sudden presence.
Enkidu - I watch many of the SciShow channels as well.
Professor Paradigm
Paradigm is intrigued by Diffraction's ability to simply interface with anything electronic. His own abilities can mimic this as well. He tabled the later talk in the back of his mind as he focused on the task at hand. His force field already in place, he stood back from the place where this sub was, analyzing its surroundings as best he could.
Spellcasting: 1d10 - 2 ⇒ (3) - 2 = 11d6 - 2 ⇒ (6) - 2 = 4
Magicked Notice: 1d10 ⇒ 91d6 ⇒ 3
Magickally scanning the area by boosting Notice with SuperSkill temporarily.
Hrungir the Destined
Re:Teleportation it was more about flavor. I was thinking that teleporting into a unused or lightly used area of the facility with few guards and then moving to allow the submersible entry into the base was the plan. The way I see it, Teleportation is one of Hrungir's 2 core abilities....just looking for a way to use it.
-- Dark Angel --
Dark Angel would definitely have closed the distance.
Yeah, I watch Because Science too, though I missed that particular episode.
GM_ZenFox42
As you get near the co-ordinates, you see a relatively small building (maybe 40'x40') near the waterline. There are 3 piers leading out over the water, with 1 mini-sub currently docked at one.
Everyone make either a Notice check OR a Common Knowledge check (one only), either one at -4.
Hrungir - the problem is, you'd be teleporting in "blind", so you'd have no idea of how many bad guys might be around. However, if you are one of the ones who walk in, your teleportation would make for a quick and easy exit, and you can take others with you...
Ibrahim, The Deadhand
Hm. Statistically, 1d4-2 and 1d8-4 have the same average result, so I guess the d8 is better if it Aces. Though the d4 is more likely to Ace? Bah. I suck at statistical analysis.
Notice: 1d8 - 4 ⇒ (3) - 4 = -1
Wild: 1d6 - 4 ⇒ (6) - 4 = 2
Ace!: 1d6 ⇒ 3
GM_ZenFox42
Hrungir - whatever bonus/penalty is applied to the roll, is also applied to the Wild die. So that's a 2. But as Thomas noted, the Wild die Aced (rolled its maximum), so you get to re-roll it!
Diffraction - when you re-roll an Ace, you *do not* include any bonuses or penalties from the first roll. So your total is 9.
Since someone succeeded, I'll post the results without waiting for Hrungir to re-roll.
I forgot : everyone notices the one Drone guard at the front door of the facility.
Professor Paradigm
Paradigm notes the location of the guard in his mental image map of the area and sends it via commlink to the rest of the team. "There is never just one Drone. We should be alert."
Hrungir the Destined
Hrungir "says" Suited one who speaks to machines. Take my hand. I will get us to the submersible. The others may offer a distraction...
Hrungir can teleport himself and Diffraction to the sub while everyone else attacks...
Hrungir sends everyone the "plan" at the speed of thought. Everyone's thoughts are connected.
Your machines are noisy. My way is superior. Hrungir sends to Paradigm
Thomas Roland
|
'Wait wait, everyone is attacking? For one drone? We don't have someone who can take out one drone without needing the rest of us to create a big ruckus?
Anyway, Imma scout the sub and see if anyone else is currently inside it,' Tom sends to the mind-linked group.
Invis and Intang., he glides into the sub.
Professor Paradigm
I had rolled Notice a while back, I got a 5 with the -4 modifier. Did I need to do a new one?
Paradigm harumphs silently at Hrungir's comment and focuses on the mission at hand.
Enkїdu
No plan survives first contact with the enemy, or the attention span of the average player...
Enkidu shows up in one of his typical scouting forms. He usually prefers something that can fly, is local to the area so it won't attract undo attention, and with senses beyond human normal. In this case, he takes the form of a small American Kestral, a falcon smaller than the average crow, but unusually maneuverable, as it generally hunts other birds in mid-air. He flies over the target location a few times, checking it out from about every single angle. To keep up appearances, he dive bombs a pigeon, and perches on his meal while staking out the place from the best angle.
Notice: 1d12 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 - 4 = 101d6 - 4 ⇒ (3) - 4 = -1
Enkidu sends his thoughts to the others, feeling odd about communicating by telepathy after so long. Haven't done this since mom left...
"I thought we had a plan? Recon only, and then the shape-shifters go in looking like authority figures? Ghost heading in for a looky-loo sounds like a good idea, but everyone else should hold up until he reports back on what he sees."
GM_ZenFox42
Deadhand and Paradigm - sorry, I missed your successes. But Diffraction has said what was needed to be said.
Enkidu flies around a bit, taking stock of the area, and notices nothing out of the ordinary. There's another drone out behind the building, standing between the building and the piers.
So, is Thomas going inside the building next?
GM_ZenFox42
Thomas goes in and looks around. He locates the dining area, the sleeping area, and what appears to be a control room with consoles with lots of displays and switches. Unless he can read V'sori, he can't glean much information from the consoles.
He counts a total of 6 drones, and 6 V'sori. Two of the V'sori are dressed differently than the other 4.
Anything specific you want to look for/do?
Professor Paradigm
Paradigm brings up his mental texting program that works with the mental connection that Hrungir gave to them.
"Can we get close enough to those clamps to release them ourselves? I can work some magick to get inside their mechanisms and work them out, in case we can't get directly to the control room."
Focusing on the Drone in the front, Paradigm's image starts to change and meld into one of them.
Sorcery: Chameleon: 1d10 ⇒ 91d6 ⇒ 2
Diffraction
"That sort of thing will send an alarm" With a mental snap the Holo-Suit disappears. The thief heads for the front under the cover of darkness.
:Moving up I'll wait for confirmation before moving in:
Stealth: 1d8 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 + 2 = 121d6 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 + 2 = 5
Ace 12+: 1d8 ⇒ 5

Thomas wrestles with the problem, discarding one novel-but-dangerous idea for another.
Eventually he decides the something else needs to happen for him to be of any use.
Still a ghost, he chameleons into the form of one of the officer-V'sori and mentally relays what he sees to the group.
'Well, what do you want to do now? If you can get some of these guys to chase you, I can reek some havok up here probably.'
Hrungir the Destined
I can be where needed. and then Hrungir sends only to Ibrahim
Ibrahim, The Deadhand
Ibrahim, The Deadhand
<There is no need to engage in a fight unless you are feeling particularly bloodthirsty. Let us proceed quietly; once the sub is in our possession they have no means of pursuit.>
Are Vsori laser guns silent? Also, you never posted the stats on that.
Hrungir the Destined
Hrungir gives a mental shrug What does the Jotunnar care about the lives of men or aliens. So be it. Let us resort to theft and skulking.
Hrungir will teleport himself and anyone who wishes down to the sub whenever we are ready.
Professor Paradigm
Paradigm was already walking towards the sub in his nifty new Drone form as the rest were preparing to sneak towards it. He concentrated on the illusion but had enough left to send the message in his mind's eye. "While this Drone is focused on me walking right past him, the rest of you should be able to slip by easily enough and get to work on those clamps. Thomas? If you can make it so that the rest of them can't leave the building should this go awry, that would be.. super."
-- Dark Angel --
Above the scene, Angel waits with some impatience, knowing that she will probably not fit into the sub's cramped space.
Thomas Roland

'Alas, I am not so talented that I can harass half a dozen fishy guards, tight in a phalanx. Indeed, if they know what they are doing, I might not tarry with them even if they were half.
What I -am- doing is keeping you a breast *snicker* of the every movement of a group of people that you can not see and are not aware of our presence.
I had hoped that would be of value. Now someone KILL SOMETHING.'
Ibrahim, The Deadhand
Ibrahim is confused by the rapidly changing plans, and decides that perhaps Hrungir is right. if chaos is the desired outcome, then it would be better to make the chaos work for them instead.
He moves to sneak up on the guard outside andprepares to quietly dispatch him.
...It appears I've done goofed. I forgot to put ranks in Stealth.
Stealth: 1d4 ⇒ 3
Wild: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Benny.
1d4 ⇒ 4
1d6 ⇒ 2
Ace: 1d4 ⇒ 4
Ace: 1d4 ⇒ 3
11 to Stealth.
Shooting or Fighting plus The Drop: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Wild: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Still awaiting Visori laser gun stats. if it is silent, I use that. if it is not, I stab him with my molecular knife. The roll is the same either way.
Hrungir the Destined
Hrungir will teleport direct beside Ibrahim.
Hrungir looks around and will blast anything not an ally with a mental attack.
Stun, Contested Smarts: 1d12 ⇒ 7
Wild: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Success is shaken, Raise is incapacitated. Contested roll is Smarts-2
GM_ZenFox42
Sorry for the delay, Mondays are always busy for me, but with the classes I'm teaching right now, it's looking like Tuesdays will also be busy for the next couple of weeks. On with the game!
Blaster pistol stats :
Range 15/30/60; Damage 3d6; ROF 1; 5 lbs; 20 shots; Double-Tap; AP 4
It makes a loud hiss when fired.
Angel - even tho it's a "mini-sub", it looks large enough that you could fit inside it (ok, maybe stooping over or lying down...)
Deadhand - the guard gets an opposed Notice as you get within striking distance of him : Notice: 1d4 ⇒ 3
So, stab away!
Hrungir - there's nobody else close enough to the front door to attack.
What do you (all) do next?
Professor Paradigm
Seeing that the rest of his team is taking care of the Drone, Paradigm makes his way to one of the docking clamps and gets to work. Pointing his hand, several nigh-invisible nanites leave his robes and fly towards the clamp. In his mind's eye, a readout of the device's inner workings appears and he starts sending commands to the tiny machines. Unfortunately, he forgot to dismiss the illusion and the interference of the alien technology distorts the image and he is unable to make it work. The clamps remain closed. Knowing they don't have much time, he starts to power up his energy weapons...
Spellcasting: 1d10 - 2 ⇒ (2) - 2 = 01d6 - 2 ⇒ (2) - 2 = 0
Paradigm is also considered Shaken at this point.
GM_ZenFox42
Paradigm, as you are working on the clamps, the drone patrolling the piers comes up behind you and says "What are you doing?". He doesn't seem to be "on guard", just curious at this point.
Also, destroying the clamps might also damage the sub.
Ibrahim, the guard drops at your feet.
Diffraction, you manage to open the front door.
Angel, you might want to stay in the air until the pier guard is taken care of.
What are y'all doing now? I'm taking one group of answers/actions as a "turn", but won't deal initiative until someone actually gets in a fight.
