Silver Bullet |

Silver bullet moves to number 2.
attack: 3 + 1d20 ⇒ 3 + (8) = 11
acrobatic: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19 yes he is taking the shortcut and he is now on top aiming at the head for a bonus to damage and attack.
damage: 2d6 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (4, 5) + 3 + 2 = 14 and he bashes the skull in of bandit number 2.
Nahoce and Elmar are up. One thug is dead, the one that didn't act yet that is.

Elmar Thonsson |

Elmar stays at the bottom of the ladder, then (not sure if he can use it for partial cover, but probably not). And I believed he already attacked this turn, but I can roll another one.

![]() |

Nahoce runs to the nearest thug alive, not bothering to try any acrobatics in her heavy armor.
Spear: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9 Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

DoubleGold |

Elmar stays at the bottom of the ladder, then (not sure if he can use it for partial cover, but probably not). And I believed he already attacked this turn, but I can roll another one.
Yes, I think partial cover will work, I was debating upon how much cover the ladder would provide, but probably enough to act as partial cover.
Nahoce tries to stab the thug with her spear, but is just a little off to the left.init: 7 + 1d20 ⇒ 7 + (18) = 25 I forgot Avellorans Init.

Thug 6 runs over to the laddeer and tries to kick it over str: 2 + 1d20 ⇒ 2 + (10) = 12 Kaylor You get an Aoo to grab his leg and pull him off the ledge using your CMB +1d20, then you get your normal action.

Silver Bullet |

Silver bullet will move to thug 4, since his in ability to partially see gives Silver and advantage. attack: 3 + 1d20 ⇒ 3 + (14) = 17

Sefu, Kaylor, Nahoce, and Elmar are up
Thug 6 did not kick over the ladder.

Nahoce feints with her spear point, then swings the haft around in a blow to the head. Not a combat maneuver, just flavoring.

That's a hit, not that it matters, but did you move to thug 3, or are you throwing the spear?
Edit: obviously you moved, but it has +2 and not +3.
![]() |

Correct. If I throw something, I'll say "Spear, thrown". Also, "swings the haft around" is a pretty big clue. :-)
She elected not to use the masterwork spear because it's too large for her. Is there another reason she would have +3 melee bonus?

DoubleGold |

She elected not to use the masterwork spear because it's too large for her. Is there another reason she would have +3 melee bonus?
if you threw your weapon, the attack goes by dex, but the damage by str, so attack is 3+1d20, but the damage is 2+whatever. Think of it as using a composite longbow, the attack is dex, but the damage added is strength. and I meant to write "because" in that last post instead of "but." I misunderstood thinking you did melee, but it is a hit with your ranged attack. as your throw would have been 3+11 vs AC.

Kaylor Traice |

I don't think you ever rolled a Will save for the thug I used doom on.
AoO: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14

DoubleGold |

I don't think you ever rolled a Will save for the thug I used doom on.
Which does pull him off the edge and knocks him prone, ouch a 10 foot drop into sand that is not so soft. I guess you were waiting for your results of the Aoo before going to round 2 action.
will: -1 + 1d20 ⇒ -1 + (20) = 19 against the remaining thug on the roof. Despite being weak with his willpower, and even though he can't resist the urge to eat even the tiniest bit of chocolate, his willpower is strong today.

Elmar Thonsson |

Not too sure about how the combat is laid out. But assuming there's a thug who hasn't surrendered, somewhere that he can see, Elmar will attack again with his bow.
To hit: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24

Kaylor Traice |

Having dealt well enough with the first thug, Kaylor climbs on to the roof and moves to attack the remaining archer, charging his weapon with arcane energy..

ouch, another one down but not dead.
Sefu attacks thug 3 with his weapon using power attack. attack: 5 + 1d20 ⇒ 5 + (13) = 18 he hasn't been on since monday and hasn't updated his character
damage: 7 + 1d8 ⇒ 7 + (1) = 8 The last one being damage by both Nahoce and Sefu surrenders as well.
You all take the thugs back to town and put them under arrest for a 10 year sentence. They were promised a reduced sentence if they cooperate. But first the other 2 random encounters
random encounter: 1d100 ⇒ 79
random encounter: 1d100 ⇒ 59
Nope, nothing random. Considering Sefu keeps going inactive, experience will be divided by 5 people as if he wasn't in this fight.
1480 Exp/5=296
1567+296=1863 We are at 1863 Exp, Sefu is at 1567 exp
You now have a change to question these guys, or not, combat is over.
Nahoce can choose to heal Silver or not, if not, he will buy a potion and drink it, but you will not get a long rest, you will however go back to down to buy your stuff and go onto the next dungeon.
loot list update, someone has to carry the books, or they will be sold. Tommorrow we start the next dungeon. Make a choice. Go through next dungeon clockwise or go through it counterclockwis?

Kaylor Traice |

So...what is it these guys supposedly did?

DoubleGold |

So...what is it these guys supposedly did?
You have to ask them question to find out, like why were they attacking people, why are they here, is this what they do for a living. All you know is that they were here attack people and the group was warned about these guys. The have been sentenced 10 years, for attempted murder, possible murder if they find dead victims, thievery, treason and many other accounts. There is no Jury, they are guilty as charaged.

![]() |

If we have the option to buy a potion, I'd take it and save the healing spells for deep in the dungeon when they're most needed.

![]() |

And just sell the books already. Nobody wants to carry them.

Elmar Thonsson |

I believe Sefu has 50-60 pounds of carrying capacity before he becomes encumbered, and another 120 pounds after that before he takes a penalty to AC. On the other hand, the books are probably too cumbersome to use when time is short, which is when knowledge actually becomes useful, and we get some nice cash for those.
Meanwhile, Elmar did nothing helpful in that fight. I guess things will change once we make it to level 2. I suppose we're not getting any roleplaying or quest experience to put us over the edge, which is reasonable.
And my vote is for clockwise, since counter-clockwise is commonly associated with witches.

DoubleGold |

You are getting quest experience Elmar, but the amount is very little, like 800 at a time, then you have to divide by number of people. Storyline progress up in a few minutes. Clockwise it is

DoubleGold |

Okay, so you take the prisoners back to town and they confess to the guards that they were working for Velyrian to guard the Erudite Eye.
Sefu stayed at home for a day, and will catch up with you all later. whenever he posts again that is.
Silver bullet bought and drank a cure light wounds potion. cure: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Then you all head off to the House of Pentheru. There are two ways to get past the gate to the house, bust it down or climb it. Silver tells everyone to climb it and help everyone who can't everyone took 10 and everyone assisted and made it safe. Because of Silver's actions, the haunt was disabled.
The first room into the house you reach the Outer Couryard. Dust and sand cover the ground of this small courtyard. To the east and west stand pairs of colums once brightly painted and now bleached from the sun, which support stone archways leading to other section of the property. Tarnished bronze gates hang open under both arches. To the north, a small flight of steps leads up to a pair of ornate doors, [ooc]I didn't draw the steps. in the south wall of the house between another set of columns.
The heroes move left agreeing to explore this dungeon clockwise.
The western side of the estate forms an L-shaped yard mostly given to sand, sun-dried earth, and the ancient husks of dead trees. Stone benches line the walls of the yard, and a large tiled pool sits in the southwest corner, dried and partially filled with sand. A short flight of steps leads between a pair of pillars to a set of stone doors in the west side of the house. At the north end of the yard stands a squat stone building with columns at every corner.
There is a giant centiped in the room.

You do not have to fight this thing, you can go back the way you came and come back to it later if you want.
You can move to a blue square, blue squares are not rough terrain, but it will place your character behind it, so let me know if you moved into a blue square so I can easily see by moving it and moving it back.
Sweet, everyone is before this thing.

Silver Bullet |

considering Avelloran went before silver, that changes what he would have done. He moves up and attacks with his earthbreaker. Attack was rolled above only it would have been 3+1d20 and a 16 which is a hit on flatfooted, but this changes damage.
damage: 3d6 + 4 ⇒ (6, 5, 6) + 4 = 21 instead of 3 damage.
attack: 3 + 1d20 ⇒ 3 + (11) = 14 Just in case people think it is fair that I reroll that and yes 14 is still a hit.

![]() |

Nahoce moves forward to engage.
Spear: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14 Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

Elmar Thonsson |

Since Elmar moves before SB, he can fire off an arrow at no penalty.
To hit: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Pretty sure this bow is cursed.
"Who keeps giant centipedes around?" Elmar shouts gruffly, annoyed.
Knowledge (nature): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

Kaylor Traice |

Is the thing actually still alive?

DoubleGold |

Storyline backup. Silver bullet did bloody it. Then back to present. Nahoce hit this thing hard. It is almost dead, and we will level if we kill this thing, 600 exp from the haunt, 800 from this thing, so 1400/5=enough to level up. Kaylor is up.

Kaylor Traice |

Kaylor silently agrees with Elmar's questions, shaking his head at silly rich people. He then moves to attack the creature.
To Hit: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 5 + 2 = 21
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 2

DoubleGold |

Yep it is dead with that blow, well actually unconscious, but people whack at it while unconscious as they won't leave alive a centipede.
Silver bullet seeing how this place is full of haunts goes to the stairs of the crypt and yells to let the monsters know we are here and then opens up the door to the right to do the same. He does not want to deal with monsters while under a Haunt, so he figures if he draws them out, this will reduce the problem
30 seconds later, we are surrounded, they came from the crypy and the inner courtyard, but a surprise round is given considering we had time to ready attacks. Silver Bullet is still large sized.
We are Level 2, level up yourselves up before posting actions for this next fight.

Okay, so we all have a surprise round, I set up the battlefield so that we can get to almost any enemy with a 5-foot shift step, which I will allow people to make that 5-foot shift and attack in this same surprise round.
Surprise round go. Most These enemies are weak, most will die in one hit, unless you roll really low on damage

Kaylor Traice |

Wait, why is the NPC making such a major tactical decision by himself? Shouldn't that be up to the players? Or at least involve him asking if we're ok with this? At this point I'm kind of in favor of leaving him behind to get killed given that as far as Kaylor can tell, he just did something incredibly stupid...

DoubleGold |

Rewindning. Instead Silver only calls out a small voice, only attracting 4 skeletons, he only attracts ones in the nearby room instead of the ones throughout the inner courtyard.
Edit: I'll get the NPC to confirm things next time, but I can only rewind so much, since you guys now know the monsters.

As the battle ends. Shall I draw out the rest of the enemies? This time I'll scream at the top of my lungs to draw out as many as possible if people want. This place is full of haunts in many rooms, if they come to us instead of us coming to them, we won't risk being cursed while fighting these creatures? If anyone else has any ideas to deal with these things while not being cursed let me know.

![]() |

Nahoce, still flush from her exercise of power, replies.
The strategy is commendable. But to draw all of them to us at once seems foolhardy in the extreme.

DoubleGold |

I'll wait till a few people reply before Silver bullet gives a talkative response, and what else can be done, but he probably won't do it.

Elmar Thonsson |

"If they're all just small skeletons, I'm all for it. Skeletons are a bit more fun than cobras, and I didn' even get a chance t' smash any of 'em yet."

DoubleGold |

Elmar might get his wish. The door was not closed during battle, but the walls absorb a lot of sound. Elmar is so ready to fight, for that he gets a +5 init for this fight, but no surprise round as anything that heard this battle is ready and prepared. Perception to hear a battle is -10, but the creatures are inside the courtyard, while the PCs are outside it, and the sound has to travel around corners, meaning enemies take a -9 perception penalty for every room away from the battle to try to hear the sounds of battle, the crypt is completely sound proof, you have to make noise inside at least the doorway of the crypt for anything in the crypt to hear you. They did take negatives in their rolls last time, but I did not show the negatives, as Silver was inside the courtyard instead of outside the courtyard, meaning smaller negatives, but I didn't show them.
