Pems moves to back up Quinn as Mal's wand catches one of the crossbows, who burns out in a phosphorus-like blaze, his silhouette remaining against ash coating the tower wall.

Nadya, staying behind the cover of the statue, launches another arrow toward the soldiers, but it slams harmlessly into the icy parapet. Quinn has more luck, his bolt catching the closest guard, who cries out in pain as it finds a weak point in his armor and pierces his shoulder, the tip coming out the far end. Gritting his teeth against the pain, he quickly reloads his weapon and fires a bolt, hitting the cleric in the shoulder in return, though Quinn's armor keeps all but the point from penetrating. 1 hp

Hektir retreats into the courtyard as Tsin closes with the woman, catching a tentative swing of her sword on her armored forearm and testing her with her own blade. Hey, that demoralize saved Tsin a wound. The woman parries back, clearly testing Tsin's defenses in the same way Tsin is testing hers.

The last two crossbowmen fire toward Hektir, one bolt grazing his arm as looks for a vantage point to continue the fight. 1 hp

As Pems continues to keep up a guard behind Quinn, the cleric's bolt catches the already injured guard again, but the man refuses to fall even as the blood drains from his face.

Mal's wand proves more effective, though, another ray killing a second guard, this one to the south.

Nadya's arrow again flies wide as Hektir converges on Tsin's foe, though she flings back her shield as he arrives, catching his blade on its spiked lip.

She grunts as Tsin's blade catches her, but spins toward the newly arrived tracksmage, battering at him with blade and board even as the remaining nearby crossbowman drops his bow and rushes forward with a drawn blade of his own. Twisting and turning, Hektir's unable to dodge all the attacks, the newly arrived guard's sword cutting into his back even as he tries to keep the woman's blows from doing mortal damage. 17 hp total

The remaining two crossbowmen continue to launch bolts uselessly at Quinn, who's able to duck out of the way.

Pem's stone bangs off one of the guards' armor, as Quinn's third bolt hits the other archer, finally sending him down onto the icy wall.

Mal's blast has less luck, it splashing off the icy tower, creating only a small deluge of steam.

Hektir slashes the woman as she turns her attention back to Tsin, knocking her blade away before spinning back and battering at Hektir, who's able to fend off her blows. It leaves him open for her companion, though, and the guard's sword cuts into his back, warm blood flowing down into his clothes. 7 hp

On the other side of the wall, the guard returns fire toward Quinn, the bolt hitting the cleric's armor and bouncing away.

Pems rushes toward Hektir as Quinn fires another bolt and also starts retreating across the courtyard. Nadya advances to cover their move, her arrow slamming into the guard, who retreats slowly back into the tower.

On the other side of the wall, Hektir and Tsin continue to batter at the wounded woman, but she seems to be finding her stride and grins as she easily fends off their blows.

Hektir's own sword seems to blur as he furiously throws it into defense, the sound of steel singing echoing through the courtyard. He keeps his attackers' own blades from touching him, but the woman manages to connect solidly with her shield, bashing him across the face with its spiked surface as Hektir parries her blade. 6 hp

Nadya launches an arrow toward him but her aim is off as she keep watch on the northern door.

Quinn and Mal rush to their companion's aid, their magic washing over Hektir, reinvorgorating the tracksmage. Wounds healed and able to extend himself more, he striks a mighty blow at the woman, his blade finding a weak point in her defenses as she blocks a blow from Tsin and sending her crumpling to the ground.

The remaining guard's eyes go wide at the carnage and, slightly panicked, he tries to batter at Hektir with his blade, hitting nothing but air.

Quinn levels his crossbow at the remaining guard, but holds the shot as he waits for Hektir to slice him down. If the guard flees, or another appears, then he takes the shot.

"Pems, first chance we get I'm buying you drinks until you teach me the northern speech of these folks. These guards could have fled, could have joined us, anything other than dying in an icy prison." Quinn shakes his head at the carnage around them, carnage he participated in creating. "With the troll burnt dead why would they keep attacking us, who do they fear more than our might? Surely the witch can't scare them so badly, can it?" Quinn sneaks an apprehensive look at Pems, wondering if the man is hiding supernatural powers from them.

Malavarius bounces his eyebrows in delight as Tsin calls forth a bit of magic on her own. "Zeno, would you look at that! It seems the girl's got some gift for magic too! Ha! I thought her skill with a sword was as deep as she got, but there's more to her after all. Splendid!"
From underneath Malavarius' warm hat, Zeno retorts, "What if it's from that Herald, hm? What about then? Will you still think it's splendid?"
"What herald? You mean that Purple Nighttime fellow? Baba Yaga's lackey? Well, if that's the case, then of course not. Nothing good ever came from that old crone!"
"Maybe instead of complaining about Baba Yaga you could keep burning the people trying to murder us all?"
"Hm? What's that? Nonsense! Those young folk have that last guardsman well in hand. Now, what was I saying before? Oh! Yes! Do you think the residents of this chilly tower have my good hat?"

"You want a piece of me? I got the witch and the b!*$* on my side," Hektir nods at the halfling then over his shoulder. "Put down the sword before I kill you dead."

Their rushed attacks fall short, however, one coming near Hektir but the rest slamming harmlessly into the icy structure around you all.

Tsin drops the longsword in disgust, and bolts past Hektir, while drawing her falchion. "If you'll allow me to make it up to you, Hektir..."

"Much better! This is much better. I don't know what I was thinking, playing with the dead captain's blade. No wonder he's dead. Hektir, you certainly would be if I kept using it." Tsin seems to draw the blade at an angle, sizing up the chance for a continuous strike against more than one guard, and disheartens at the absence of such positioning.

"GO AND REAM YOURSELF WITH A HARPY GAFF, YOU WITCH LOVERS!" Hektir roars as he lets Tsin go ahead of him. "I can't believe the lot of you don't see the rest of this courtyard, now painted red with the blood of your witch-loving comrades. You all you sure you want to join them!?"

Hektir 5' steps towards Tsin's dropped cold iron sword. He will take total defense and pick up the blade.

Hektir will challenge the manhood of the assembled warriors, a universal derision-language.

"How many of them are there?" Pems calls out in frustration, firing a stone fruitlessly toward one of the newest arrivals.

Mal has more luck, his fiery ray catching one of the guards, who screams horribly for a few moments before collapsing to the ground.

Nadya's arrow catches another guard in the arm, provoking a cry of pain, even as Quinn's bolt hits nearby, chipping off a piece of ice from the wall.

As Hektir picks up the discarded sword, Tsin rushes forward, her blade slashing through the nearest guard, whose eyes go wide as his blood rushes out of the gaping wound.

Undaunted, the remaining guard pulls his sword and slashes back at her, but she's easily able to parry the blow. The other two fire crossbow bolts haphazardly, their aim thrown off in their haste.

Malavarius tromps up the ramp, trying to close the distance to Tsin so his ward might protect her from the guards ahead. At the top of the chute, he points the wand forward again at a distant guard.

"I say! I do think I'm getting better at using this contraption. What a magnificent and useful thing. Why, Zeno, it's the opposite of you! Ha! Ha h- ouch!" The sound of beak pecking into scalp can be heard clearly, even over the din of the soldiers and fighting. "Alright, alright. Settle down, you. It was only a joke."
