Pems is back, but Hektir ninja'd me before I could post!

Pems shakes himself, feeling much better and much less likely to grunt or scratch various hairy spots. He activates his witchmask, creating two Pems-duplicate-witches, who both don't feel nearly as much like scratching and grunting as before. He uses his Glowering Eyes to Split Hex both elementals with Evil Eye (Will DC 26 1 round/7 rounds) for -4 to Saves!

Tsin and her guardian exact punishment on the one elemental, though it lands a heavy blow on her as she closes in. 41 hp, plus 8 cold, plus DC 22 Fort save of be staggered 1 round A second later, there's a blast of heat as first Pems and then Hektir approach the room, their combined hexes and berry bombs destroying the two icy creatures.

Quinn enters the room, blasting the two remaining foes, though the bolts don't seem to ever touch Elvanna. The witch queen, flies back a few feet and then casts again -- and the area is plunged into polar midnight! The area indicated is dark; everyone in it takes 17 cold damage and 1 Dex damage (DC 32 Fort save to negate Dex damage. Any creature that doesn't move on its turn becomes encased in a sheath of ice equivalent to wall of ice, is helpless, and cannot breathe.

The lights come back on as Mal manages to cast his spell despite his chattering teeth and stiffening limbs.

As the demodand takes up a guard position and waits, its stench hits Quinn and Hektir's noses. DC 26 Fort save or be sickened for 1 round

Tsin looks upon her Shield Guardian with a touch of pity, knowing what it feels like to be at the center of that elemental abuse. For the knowledge she inherently knows about the ground-shackled golem, she bids her to cast its magic up at the slimy demodand.

The demodand must contend with the Debilitating Portent stored within the Guardian. Will Save DC (20 + Elvanna's/Baba Yaga's? Intelligence modifier, I think?) every time it attacks or casts a spell. Failure, and it only does half damage. A lovely 20 rounds of the Portent...

She then bids the living statue to attend her, and move to her side, making room for the second statue to approach, should Quinn so desire. 20' move towards the doors.

With the Shield Guardian done with its activity, Tsin takes to the air, charging the demodand. With Sever coated in magics against evil things Aligned(Good), she feels quite ready to slay it. She still reinforces her strike with the Baldric's blessing of Bane. v Outsider, we'll say

Sorry, Hek is right about the construct saves

Round 5
Tsin has her guardian unleash its spell on the demodand, then takes to the sky to attack it, her blade cutting deep. Hektir follows a moment later, fist hitting the thing, which staggers back slightly.

Pems and Quinn focus more on the witch, the former giving her the evil eye, while the latter teleports himself and the second guardian up to the witch's side, a surge of glee from Baba Yaga (and almost as rarely, Tsin) clear to all of you. Unfortunately, its arms seem to simply slide off her and he falls to the ground himself she has magics happening, so it just falls 30 ft. on its own, but is unharmed.

The witch carefull casts her own spell, and the demodand's wounds almost completely disappear.

"Elvanna, usurper would-be queen. It was no honor to meet you. It will be a relief to end your attempted reign, as it means our oath will be fulfilled to your Baba Yaga. Do you have any last words to those who will defeat you?"

The demodand suddenly turns to stone and plummets out of the sky, drawing an angry curse from Queen Elvanna.

Tsin actually yips, as the newly-healed demodand suddenly falls to the floor, a stony form joining the shield guardians down below. "Single-handedly eliminated the demons, master Malavarius. Well done. Excellent work. Is it too much to ask you to do it one more time? Elvanna would make a wonderful statue in this chamber."

The swordswoman flicks a glance at the ice witch, wondering if the woman has anything of righteous indignation to share with Baba Yaga's contingent of substitute riders. She shrugs, then descends mid-air in an arc to find Elvanna's flank, getting out of the way of Hektir rushing directly at her. In a lazy swing-like swoop, Tsin takes position on the other side of Elvanna, and begins an exploring slash, to test the woman's magical protections. Only in this moment does it occur to her that Elvanna probably has the same kind of magic as is in her own Ring. She allows a modicum of respect to the only other woman in the room, as a fellow soul who hates unwanted embraces.

Pems' spell has no effect, even despite Quinn's magic didn't beat SR, and she glares around in hatred, before laughing coldly. Hektir and Tsin must make a DC 30 Will save. -4 to all saves for 1 round if they succeed, or 13 rounds if they fail. And then she cackles to extend either of those amounts by 1 round

"You think you can beat me?" she cries. "Even if you do, pay attention to my fate. If the Old Crone will do this to her own flesh and blood, imagine what she'll do to you when she tires of you?

Unfortunately, Mal and Pems' spells seem to have no effect on Elvanna, but the same can't be said for Tsin, who manage to hurt her, chipping off chunks of ice. Hektir's blows just slide off her icy form.

She dodges Quinn's touch, and then turns her energy to the two attackers, ice and cold swirling around them in freezing blasts as she laughs uproariously. 11 and 18 hp cold damage, respectively, to Tsin and Hektir. DC 30 Fort save for half (don't forget you're at -4). More importantly, if you fail your save, you're paralyzed and unconscious while the ice lasts.

"Then you'll die, fools!" she taunts, seemingly undaunted by the unfavorable odds.

Just as Elvanna seems ready to cast a spell of immense power, one you think is likely to be potentially life-ending, Tsin's blade catches her across the neck. It catches for a moment on her icy body, but its flame and magic seem to be stronger than the witch queen's and Tsin -- a mere butcher's apprentice when she began this journey -- muscles it through. Elvanna's eyes bulge and her mouth remains open in a silent scream as her head topples clean, body falling with a thump to the ground below.

After what seems like years of effort to get to this point, the room falls silent except for your breathing, your fight over.

Of course, that lasts for merely a moment when you hear Baba Yaga's now familiar voice: "Well done! Well done, my Riders! Now, soak my last doll in her blood and I will be free, and this will be all over!"

Still in an apish rage as his kill was denied him, Apetir picks up Elvanna’s head by her hair and begins to beat it against the wall. He does this for a few moments, until his breath and rage give out.

He lets others play with the doll and the blood, taking the head and shoving his other helping of fire seeds into its mouth, which he will gladly ignite.

Only by staring at the burst flames coming out of the skulls remaining sockets does he finally feel some measure of revenge. Only when the heat from the skull warms him like his summer used to warm him, does he remember where he came from.

Finally, he slumps against the wall, still holding the skull and returns to his natural form.

The moment decelerates abruptly, as Tsin can feel the magic bestowed upon her Sever, by Baba Yaga. Almost as if Sever became... barbed... for the instant it found the witch's neck flesh. There was really only one way it would leave the meat- on the other side.

As the body collapses, and the head becomes pacifier for the simian, Tsin shudders. Not in disgust, or fear, but in relief. Here, in the Kurgan of Baba Yaga, the Heldren Five managed to execute a queen. Her mind races over the possible paths they have yet to take. She reigns in those horses as soon as she hears the Crone's Voice.

Tsin watches as Pemsworth does as Baba Yaga bids...

Malavarius raises a fist jubilantly as Elvanna’s head suddenly leaps into an upward arc as her body quickly drops in the opposite direction. ”Ha! Look at that, Zeno!” He then shouts up toward the rest of the group, ”Splendid stroke, Tsin! Masterful work, indeed!”

Tsin jumps at the sound of the wizard's cheer. "It was well-timed, I agree. Surprising how steady she held herself, while cackling. I can only imagine the executioner's job is much easier, for the restraints." From butcher to blackhood, eh?

Huh. I was expecting Tsin to try to stop Pems.

Pems soaks the matryoshka doll in Elvanna’s blood, and a resounding crack echoes through the chamber. A few seconds later, thick white smoke pours from the broken doll, and out steps Baba Yaga. The Queen of Witches is free once more!

"At last!" she exclaims.

”Yes, at last indeed.” Malavarius regards the Old Crone with bunched up eyebrows and a furrowed brow. ”Welcome back to your kurgan, Baba Yaga.”

Tsin watches intently, as the Crone steps from her prison. They just slew one witch, and in her place stands another, more powerful one. Before she considers anything rash, Tsin sheathes Sever in her Baldric. After wiping Elvanna's blood from it, of course.

"A journey at an end, then? Having freed you, have we fulfilled our oath to your Black Rider? As Pems says, are we 'free and clear'? Elvanna's treachery is still active, I would guess. What will you do next?"

"Of course our oath is fulfilled!" Quinn exclaims jubilantly as he steps toward Baba Yaga. "It must have been terrible being trapped for so long, I bet you need a drink!" He produces a bottle of shine and offers it to the crone. "'Afraid we don't have any fancy cups befitting your station, Hektir and I just drink right from the bottle."

"Yes, yes," the crone says, glaring disdainfully at Quinn's offering. "You have done what you've promised, and earn a reward, despite your impertinence!"

She glares specifically at Tsin at that.

She then turns her back to you, dismissively for a moment, and faces the cauldron. She chants a short incantation, and the bubbling cauldron goes dark and still.

"There. Your home is restored," she says. "Now winter will remain only in my Irrisen."

With another incantation, Baba Yaga shatters Elvanna’s mirror gate, permanently shutting the “back door” to her inner sanctum.

"That hardly seems enough, though. I revoke my mantle -- " and you feel a wait lifted from your shoulders " -- but will not leave you with nothing. You may keep the other gifts I've granted you, as well as all of the treasures you have recovered from within my Dancing Hut. You may take what you want from the upstart, too, except for the Icecrown of Irrisen, which will go to the next queen."

She stops, seemingly momentarily in thought.

"But still, you have done my a great service, so I offer each of you one final boon -- any one thing that is within my power to grant."

Hektir takes the crown off the head that he'd been holding by the hair, after he had beaten it against the wall, and then filled it with fire seeds.

He lamely wipes it off on his armor, and hands the Icecrown to Baba Yaga. He keeps the head of Elvanna.

"Hmm. I am quite content to return home and enjoy my summer," Hektir says with a spit, feeling the onus on his shoulders lifted. "I do no with a slave for a wife, but to find someone who can love me and bear me many happy children who will delight in the long summers. Can you offer me that?"

Zeno's feathers nearly all fall out as he considers the Old Crone offering herself as Hektir's reward, but Malavarius seems unaware of the little thrush's imagination as he strokes his beard in quiet, heavy contemplation.

"Hmmm. This last request is in addition to returning my good hat, yes?" His lips purse into a tight frown and his brow crumples into furrows again as the realization dawns that the hag had likely been behind the loss of his good hat from the very start.
