Jasper Eleventoes |
Jasper has one option, so he flings another gout of acid at the intruder.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (7) + 3 - 4 = 6 No precise shot
Damage: 1d3 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 + 1 = 3 Acid focus, Bloodline
That looks a lot like last round's miss...
Reekis Gool |
Initiative:
Reekis: 23
Adalwin: 20
Eljoy: 18
Oliver: 15
Anor: 12+
‘D’: 12-
Jasper: 11
Reekis decides it's now or never, and swings his mace at the little thing's head. But his hesitancy and natural cowardice means he barely gets close enough to hit it.
1d20 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (2) - 1 + 2 = 3 to hit, damage 1d8 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + (4) = 6
Adalwin.
Eljoy Skinner |
"Oh for f$&+'s sake! Just hit the damn little bugger."
Eljoy strides smoothly into the fray. He raises his axe overhead and drives it down at the creature.
Battleaxe, two handed, rage : 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 5 + 2 = 23 ... damage: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
AC= 9. Move to N9
DM Mothman |
Neither Reekis nor Adalwin is able to land a solid hit on the hooded attacker – but Eljoy strides into the fray and fells it with a solid downward blow from his axe.
The thing falls to the ground, its hood and the head beneath split open, leaking foul smelling, sluggish blood and brain matter onto the dead leaves. However, something still continues to writhe and wriggle within its robe.
Stay on initiative for the moment. Oliver and Anor.
Oliver Hoffman |
Oliver steps forward, his spear presented before him, and sticks it into the cloth on the ground. He swirls the tip into a small circle before dashing it up off the thing, holding the robe up off the ground so everyone has a chance to look on what still writhes beneath.
5' to O8
Standard/Move to stab/lift cloak? maybe?
DM Mothman |
I’m guessing a standard action to poke and swirl, and a move action to move aside the robe.
Oliver flicks aside the dead enemy’s robe with his spear, revealing the corpse of a small, reptilian humanoid. Its scaly flesh sags from its bones, with scales missing in patches. The blood that leaches from the wounds you have inflicted on it is sparse, black and foul smelling.
Scurrying about on the reptilian corpse’s back is a big black furred rat. It hisses at Oliver, the fur standing up straight on its back.
Oliver Hoffman |
Oliver is taken aback at first, before he draws a confused expression. Why would a rat be riding the possibly undead thing. Then he has an idea, "Wait! Don't kill it. What if it's sentient, like say a familiar.... maybe the witch's familiar?" Turning to the rat, he directs, "Can you understand what I'm saying?"
Jasper Eleventoes |
As the others consider the conundrum of the rat, Jasper sits down rather heavily on a nearby log. "A normal rat would flee, but I don't think most familiars can communicate with anyone but their witch. ShadowWing can't talk to me or anything, but if he could, I don't think he could talk to you. That's what the old hedge wizard used to tell me when ShadowWing showed up, anyway."
Jasper Eleventoes |
"It's almost time to get up anyway. We can keep an eye on the rat while we break fast and break camp. Let it protect its twice-dead master, I think."
DM Mothman |
Reekis and Oliver must make a DC 16 Fort save to avoid taking 1d2 ⇒ 2 points of Constitution damage. Reekis can get a +4 bonus to the save if Oliver makes a successful heal check to treat him.
If Con damage is becoming a concern, remember that you found a potion of lesser restoration in the witch's cottage.
Adalwin MacFaine |
"It's almost time to get up anyway. We can keep an eye on the rat while we break fast and break camp. Let it protect its twice-dead master, I think."
Adalwin nods. "I don't see any reason to kill it. Though if we were able to search the body we may find more clues to help us decide what to do with the thing."
The young man casts an eye over the corpse appraisingly. He goes to his backpack, grabs his sack, and returns. "I'll try to grab it in this, and give us some time to search this thing."
Adalwin will proceed unless any of the group object. He will try to catch the rat in his sack, attempting not to hurt it. Not sure what is needed, I've made an attack roll with my base attack bonus.
attack roll: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
search: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Eljoy Skinner |
Eljoy looks askance at the other party members. He mumbles to himself, "This is a f%#+ing stupid b#%&! of a plan."
"Don't do anything til I'm back." While Adalwin grabs the sack, Eljoy grabs his shield. He stands behind Adalwin, ready to crunch the rodent should Adlawin's plan go awry.
DM Mothman |
Adalwin nimbly avoids the bite and plunges the rat into the sack, where it wriggles impotently.
The body of the small reptilian creature looks (and smells) like it has been dead for a week or more. It wears a tattered and torn brown wooden robe, holds a bent spear, and wears a crude wooden sign on a short length of rope around its neck, with strange symbols etched into it. Adalwin’s search reveals nothing of apparent value.
As it happens, Anor and Reekis both recognise the symbols as letters in the Draconic alphabet.
Oliver Hoffman |
Fort save 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
He would have treated Reekis, but since Reekis made his save already, there's no point in rolling the heal check.
Oliver raises his eyebrows in delight at the opportunity to educate, "Well, Reekis, a Shaman is term commonly used to refer to a holy man, but of a more tribal nature. They do not venerate the Gods themselves, as much as things like their ancestors or the spirits of the land around them. They can also be seen as the wise man or give council to a chieftan, but rarely hold the position themselves." He ends with a finger raised as he speaks.
That was my second successful save. Is that enough to beat the disease?
Eljoy Skinner |
"Just drop it on the ground and step on the end of the bag so it can't get out, Ady." Eljoy sheds his shield and grips his axe with both hands. The big man sights on the lump in the sack and winds up, then drives the ax downward in much the same way he had against the shaman.
Coup de grace if possible. Just swing if not.
Ax,: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24 ... damage: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Miss chance v concealment, if needed. : 1d100 ⇒ 66
It might have been the shaman's companion and faithful it even after death. That would be a sad story. Eljoy's got too much fear and anger to let it live though.
Eljoy Skinner |
Eljoy wipes his blade on the sack and spins smoothly away. "I'll get you a new sack in town, Ady."
He trudges back to his bedroll and lies down, apparently to resume his night's sleep.
Jasper Eleventoes |
Jasper finishes his watch with Adalwin if the others return to their bedrolls. Eventually, he says, "I don't feel too good. That thing got me pretty good, I think."
2/6 hit points
I don't want to waste healing, but being that close to 0 makes me nervous. I'm going to, at the least, try to be extra cautious today. I think yesterday's travel plan should be fine.
Jasper Eleventoes |
Agreed. The attack presumably occurred prior to anyone preparing spells for the day, so burning a CLW early might change the day's prepared spells. Jasper will certainly not turn down healing if it is offered.
