Shaeyl turns his mage sight to look where Sly indicates.

perc: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (8) + 12 = 20

What's what?

Shaeyl sees the shadowy thing moving in the corner and after review, decides it isn't any of your shadows cast by the light, but is in fact something more sinister. When combined with the noises coming from elsewhere it would seem the dead are on the way. Haunting screams, hoarse moans and shuffling feet are headed your way.....

Well, that answers that. Drawing his own sword, Shaeyl shifts into a combat stance.

know:religion for the shadow, untrained: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17

You suspect it to be a shadow, one of the more common undead, but very dangerous for its incorporeal nature and strength draining abilities.

Round 1

Initiative:

Shaeyl 31
Aury'tss 28
Shadow 20
Sly 19
Grubgullet 18

Shaeyl takes his stance, and studies the foe, identifying it, and draws his weapons.

Aury'tss, rapidly fires a pair of arrows at the thing. Despite being dead on target, they seem to do nothing. Shaeyl recalls that nonmagical weapons will have no effect on the incorporeal undead.

The shadow reaches out for Sly.

Sly swerves aside and dodges the shadowy creatures grasp.

Sly summons forth his hex power and focuses it on the shadowy creature. You get some sense that it did not seem to work.

It's a shadow, magic weapons have some effect. Try to use ranged magic if you can!

I will auto-PC Grub if we don't hear from him soon.

Grubgullet fires an earthen blast at the shadow.

Ranged Touch attack vs AC 15: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8 - miss

His blast unfortunately misses the shadowy creature.

Round 2 Shaeyl and Aury go first, everyone else can post their actions if they know what they want to do.

Shaeyl's magical acid hits and there is a slight flash as the magic hit the shadow, but as a shadow you can't really see any effects to its health.

Aury begins her song.

The shadow attacks again.

It swishes through the air hissing hollowly, but Sly manages to evade its attack easily.

you hear the noise or clicking and metallic clanking and Grub turns and looks down the hall leading to this room. He see skeletal warriors filing in slowly, hauntingly, the pinpoint of reddish evil glowing in the eye sockets of their bone white skulls.

"Uh oh." Grub says.

Can the door be closed/barred from this side, or is it not possible?

You could try to close it and/or block it with the lid.

Shaeyl's acid manages to hit the shadowy creature, the magic doing minimal damage.

The shadow strikes out at Shaeyl.

The undead outside the door try to turn the knob as Aury holds it. She struggles to keep it shut while still performing. She is also probably not strong enough to hold it as they persist with unflagging strength.

Sly attempts a hex again on the shadow, but he gets the impression it doesn't seem to be working. You seem to recall undead shrug off mind affecting magic with impunity.

Grub grabs the sarcophagus lid and drags it to the door propping it in place, its weight lending to the security of the door. He places his bulk into it as well, creating a pretty solid barrier that will take a long long time to get through. Unfortunately your foes are undead, and have all the time there is....

The shadow seems much clearer now and you slash at it with your sword spinning about, hitting with a brief slash of silver, you keep spinning and your foot catches the shadow in its 'chest' area, and another flash of silver in the darkness as your blows hit.

Aury provides her protection and continues to inspire courage to the group.

The shadow launches another attack at Shaeyl.

Shadowy touch attack vs Shaeyl: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12 - miss

You hear the battering away, but get the impression they aren't doing much if anything to the door.

Sly conjures another ball of icy cold magical snow, hurling it at the shadow, hoping it hits and affects it. Some undead shrug off magical cold. It hits solidly, and while its incorporeal form allows it to shrug off some of the damage, it does not seem to be immune to cold. It does however seem to completely ignore the staggering effect of the magical cold, and you recall undead have no real life force and do not suffer from ill effects such at that.

Grub launches his magical earth blast against the shadow, slamming it with magical earth. Like Sly's magical snow, it fails to affect it fully, but the magic seems to cause some harm to it.

Round 5
-------------------------------------------------------------------

Sly readies himself to chuck another Snowball should the creature reappear. "What would you like to do about them?," he asks, nodding in the direction of the makeshift barricade.

Grub, you think you can use that lid as a door, and let just one of those skellies in at a time?

"Uh... maybe?"

This I gotta see :) let me know the plan.

As the group discusses their situation, trapped within the small burial vault with a shadowy form lurking somewhere, they are wary and on the watch. Time ticks away as the skeletal creatures outside the door continue to batter away at it.

"Sly, I could make you bigger so you and Grub can block the door and be able to attack them one by one."

Sly grins as he moves to the side of the doorway. "Normally, I'd be all for it, but we barely have room as it is. I say we let them through and take care of them."

-------------------------------------------------------------------

If Grub backs up, I think we're good for just the two of us being threatened. Or I can move east 1 square and we can try the one-at-a-time strategy.

So the plan is to haul the giant slab back a bit, and let them break down the door, or open it for them and attempt to let in one at a time? Seems feasible on paper. Nothing could possibly go wrong :) Although its about the best plan likely.

Correct!

Shaeyl's Character Sheet Perc 12, HP 19/23, AC 19/12/19, CMD 20, Save +4/+11/+6 Darkvision 120’

there's no door there. It was an open hallway leading into this room. That's why we used the sarcophagus lid to block the hallway, control the number of combatants. So, if Grubb lets them push one edge of the lid away, they'll have to 'squeeze' through, one at a time. It would be a strength check between Grubb and the next skelly to see if he could shove the lid back across the door.

There was a door, it was just not locked. Aury, simply opened it and walked in.

Grub moves the giant slab slowly from the door, which is now able to be open slightly just enough to let a skinny skeletal creature through. The group waits as the first of the attackers shimmies in, and Grub throws his weight and strength into slamming the slab back in place. This consumes most of Grub's attention and action.
