can Kiki hitch a ride on Goliath and use his height to reach the wyvern with a jump?
Yes, if you jump from his head, its probably only a 5' vertical jump. Action heroics! I often think a comic book of a group's adventures would be cool, too bad my drawing skills maxed out at like 7th grade ability.

Xanya Zellor |

That's a DC 20 acrobatics check right? She can use limb climber to stay on the Wyvern if she got that far right?

Simon Saito |

Round one, Simon starts a performance, and yells as an arrow pierces his wing. Aster stays next to Xanya and Cryxial.
Round 2
Simon casts Mage armor on himself.
Aster continues to stay next to Xanya, ready to charge when she does.
Round 3
Simon casts Protection From Evil on Goliath and sticks with the group if they move.

Xanya Zellor |

I guess Xanya is actually before all the enemies in round 3, so I can probably post. Just missing Kiki's round 2 action now.

Goliath, War Scion of Ragathiel |

Pro Evil won't help much unless they try and use compulsion magic. I already cast shield of faith.

CaveToad |

Round 3
Xanya 24
Goliath 21
Centaur 19
Wyvern 18
Fire Giant 17
Gnolls 14
Quassine 12
Cryxial and Aster 12
Kiki 7
Simon/Aster 6
Xanya you might as well go. Kiki's round 2 actions consisted of moving to Goliath and climbing on top of him to get ready for a jump if the wyvern survives. Xanya you are trying to gauge where exactly you would meet the centaur. He is moving at a full out gallop currently to cover ground, but you doubt he would engage at that speed as it is a bit too reckless. If he slows to a reasonable engagement speed you may not even meet this round.
I think we are all caught up now. I will post and recap once all actions are in for Round 3. Good luck!

Xanya Zellor |

You can't normally charge at a run, so it wouldn't be just reckless, it would be impossible. I must say though that "maybe" as an answer to "Can I do this" makes it kinda impossible to make decisions. I'll take your answer to mean "next round".
Cryxial slows down a tad so that even If the centaur would reach them, it would not be able to attack as well. This slowdown gives Xanya the opportunity to cast a spell. "Protego!" A white light flows out from her groin as tendrils across her body before encircling her head and then vanishing.
Protection from Evil. AC now up to 29 with aid... Though it'll drop down to 25 with rage/charge.
Banner outside range duration: 1d4 ⇒ 1
Bleh, no banner next round QQ

Goliath, War Scion of Ragathiel |

With the inspire that will be 3 more damage to the wyvern and 2 more on the AoO. And a +1 to hit on all of the attacks if any missed.

CaveToad |

Naturally, but I tried to keep the post flavory and not meta-gamey. Xanya understands that he is moving to fast for an accurate charge at a full speed but not the rule mechanics behind it.

Xanya Zellor |

I like flavorful descriptions too, but some disambiguation-comment might be nice as well. Put the flavorful text in normal text and the disambuiguation (if needed) in ooc text. Here everything was in ooc text. Anyway, if Kiki used her round to climb we are ready for round 3 right?

Yes

Round 3
Xanya 24
Goliath 21
Centaur 19
Wyvern 18
Fire Giant 17
Gnolls 14
Quassine 12
Cryxial and Aster 12
Kiki 7
Simon/Aster 6
Xanya casts her spell protecting herself. Are you also moving on Cryxial? Your text indicated you were, but you didn't move your token. Also spellcasting while riding is risky, unless you did the spell before or after the single move. Let me know, we can update the map then.
Goliath spins in place as the Wyvern does a sharp bank and attempts to climb higher, his twin sword cuts strike the creature deeply with his sizable reach, slicing through the creature's thick scales. It screeches in pain and agony as the blade sprays blood into a fine mist through the air.
Wyvern DC 10 Fly check: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14 - success
Wyvern DC 10 Fly check: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12 - success
The wyvern, despite the brutal onslaught, manages to stay aloft and not lose any altitude.
The centaur continues its charge across the hilly grass covered plain, its full out gallop slowing somewhat to a more controlled gait.
The wyvern attempts to escape, withdrawing as it flaps its wings harder. [ooc]Goliath even with a withdraw you still threaten the second square the wyvern will move from allowing your AoO. Your AoO stands.
Goliath strikes out again at the fleeing wyvern and slams his sword down hard on the dragon as it beats its wings to move out of range. The sword cracks its back, and the creature spirals back down to the ground in a thump.
Falling damage: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 5) = 6
The wyvern crashes hard into the ground and lays there bleeding out, its tongue lolling in the grass.
The fire giant and the gnolls all being running towards your group covering about 90' of distance, which puts them still a considerable ways away. One more full round of running would put them actually on the far east end of the map.
Remaining initiatives go!

Xanya Zellor |

I haven't moved Xanya at all for any of my actions. In fact I didn't even realize there was a map... The idea was to cast after or before movement yes. I moved her a bit now.

Xanya Zellor |

"Finally we meet!" Xanya shouts out with a wicked smile as light shoots out of her eyes. She grips her lance hard with both hands and sends her mind into that one special place. The place where all is chaos, where one thought where glide over into the next faster than the blink of an eye, the place where there is no time to mull over things, there is only action. She reaches out to Cryxial and fills him with her anger as well, fueling their rage to great heights. This was the moment she had been waiting for, a chance to prove she was indeed the best lancer! Take that! She shouts out as she feels that her lance hits it's mark.
Xanya attack, lance, charge, mutagen, rage, inspire courage, power attack, furious focus: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (20) + 18 = 38 damage: 3d6 + 51 ⇒ (4, 1, 3) + 51 = 59
Xanya Crit confirm: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (6) + 18 = 24 damage: 2d6 + 34 ⇒ (3, 1) + 34 = 38
If the Xanya survives and the Centaur is not dead Cryxial get to pounce due to rideby
Cryxial bite: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28 damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Cryxial claw: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22 damage: 1d4 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Cryxial claw: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13 damage: 1d4 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
AC down to 23 for Xanya now, 25 with aid

CaveToad |

Xanya, I assume that is your round 4 post queued up. Yes there is a map ;). Because of the strange way I am handling the joust its sort of a held action on both of you and you will both attack simultaneously and see who comes away the worst. You will probably collide somewhere around P27 based on moves, the centaur has a slight edge in speed but not much due to heavier armor.

Xanya Zellor |

A normal Centaur has 35 feet movement in armor, is this faster than that then? I had been assuming it wasn't slowed by it's armor when I calculated speed earlier. And yes that's my 4th round action, however it's not really queued up since there are no enemies before me anyway. Initiative order is Enemies -> Quassine -> Aster -> Kiki -> Simon -> Xanya -> Goliath -> then round again right?

Correct, just waiting for Simon, Quassine and Kiki to complete round 3. The centaur move is probably accurate from a metagame aspect, although there isn't any way to particularly gauge that for Xanya on the battlefield or to make specific spacing or minute details for planning.

Quassine Alator |

ROUND 3
Quassine runs to AA-19 or AA-20 depending on where he gets the extra concealment.

Goliath, War Scion of Ragathiel |

So looks like the s!$& will hit the fan on round 5. Take that wyvern. to bad this isn't like a video game. Goliath would have dinged up a level and had a little better chance against the onslaught in his future that is the giant :)
Round 4
Goliath cast divine favor and moves forward seeing engagement is inevitable.
Posting to keep things going :)

Xanya Zellor |

Simon did actually post already, so I guess we are just waiting for Kiki?

Kiki Bitterdew |

Lacking an enemy right now, Kiki uses Goliath for transportation, moving back onto the ground once he passed the wyvern and skittering to the north, atempting to reach a position roughly opposite of Quassine.
stealth(full speed): 1d20 + 28 ⇒ (2) + 28 = 30 -5 or -20 if running is possible

Round 3 Finish
Quassine and Kiki move into positions, Quassine to the south in the bushes and Kiki sprints to the north, in the concealment of the tall grass. Simon casts protection from evil on himself and sticks with Goliath while Aster jogs quietly alongside Xanya and Cryxial.
Round 4
Xanya 24 (special held joust action)
Goliath 21
Centaur 19
Wyvern 18
Gnolls 14
Fire Giant 13 (held attack until after gnolls)
Quassine 12
Cryxial and Aster 12
Kiki 7
Simon/Aster 6
Xanya continues her charge forward intent on meeting the Centaur.
Goliath casts a spell on himself and also moves forward.
As the centaur continues its charge, it meets Xanya head on and the two crash together. Xanya's familiar skitters about her shoulders attempting to distract her opponent.
Ikik Aid to Xanya AC 10: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16 - success, +2 AC
Centaur Lance attack, Charging, other effects vs AC 25: 1d20 + 12 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 12 + 2 = 26 - hit
Centaur Thundering Hooves, Charging, other effects vs AC 25: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 6 + 2 = 10 - miss
Both jousters hit each other, Xanya's lance driving deep as the centaur rears up to strike down at her with his, also hitting, but trying to strike her with his hooves as well.
Lance damage to Xanya: 3d8 + 21 ⇒ (1, 3, 7) + 21 = 32
While the centaur strikes Xanya hard, his charge strong and on the mark, his rearing up to hit Xanya with hooves as well allows Xanya to get a lucky piercing blow in that drives her lance deep into his chest. The blow is so powerful she is worried her lance will snap off, and the force of the hit spins both combatants around. Cryxial takes advantage of the spin to leap into the air, swiping at the centaur and sinking his fangs into it.
Already at deaths door, the centaur drops in place crashing into the grass end over end as clumps of dirt and dust and pieces of turf are turned into the air.
Coughing from the dust and from a huge puncture wound in her side where the enemy lance pierced her, Xanya emerges from the cloud victoriously.
Centaur Stabilize DC 10: 1d20 + 4 - 18 ⇒ (17) + 4 - 18 = 3 - fail, -1 hp, dies
The centaur wheezes one last breath behind her and expires.
Wyvern Stabilize DC 10: 1d20 + 4 - 8 ⇒ (5) + 4 - 8 = 1 - fail, -1 hp
The gnolls who had been running see the fall of the centaur move somewhat and then stop to fire arrows at Xanya the victor. The fire giant with them also pauses and waits as they launch their arrows.
Ikik Aid to Xanya AC 10: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27 - success, +2 AC
Ikik Aid to Xanya AC 10: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27 - success, +2 AC
Ikik Aid to Xanya AC 10: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12 - success, +2 AC
Ikik aids against the first three attacks (I think this can work against ranged attacks)
Distance is 170' for gnolls putting them in their second range increment.
The gnolls take advantage of the distraction caused by the charge of their fallen centaur ally.
gnoll Composite longbow vs Xanya AC 25: 1d20 + 1 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (3) + 1 + 2 - 2 = 4

gnoll Composite longbow vs Xanya AC 23: 1d20 + 1 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 1 + 2 - 2 = 17
gnoll Composite longbow vs Xanya AC 23: 1d20 + 1 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (18) + 1 + 2 - 2 = 19
gnoll Composite longbow vs Xanya AC 23: 1d20 + 1 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (6) + 1 + 2 - 2 = 7
All miss
A storm of arrows comes whistling in, but Xanya's magic, armor and shielding holds strong. Her eyes widen as several arrows come close, or bounce of her armor, or magical wards.
The fire giant paused ever so briefly, waiting to see the results of the arrow volley. He instead of using his bow, hurls a giant flaming boulder at Xanya. (second range increment)
Fire giant, fiery rock vs Xanya AC 23: 1d20 + 10 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (13) + 10 + 2 - 2 = 23 - hit
Rock damage to Xanya: 1d8 + 15 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + 15 + (6) = 23 (6 of this is fire damage)
The fiery boulder hits her, glancing off of her shoulder, hard. She feels the power behind it and is almost knocked off of Cryxial. Feeling woozy and heavily wounded, she whirls in rage.
Aster comes trotting up alongside Xanya, quietly and calmly.
Quassine, Simon, Kiki go! Simon I moved you a few squares to stay by Goliath but you could also cast a spell or something as well, or move more.
Xanya, I did not apply your DR to the 55 damage you took. Make sure you decrement the two hits by the appropriate amount.

Quassine Alator |

Quassine runs to AB-36 and as he runs, he is impressed by his sister's combat prowess but charging like she did is not his style ... yet.

Xanya Zellor |

Xanya emits a scream as she is struck by the lance, though a hint of pleasure is intermingled with the heavy pain. "Oh yeah." She groans as the centaur slumps to the ground. A burning sensation flows through her as the rock hits her shoulder. "Some help here would be hot." She mutters as she focuses inwards to rejuvenate herself. A soothing sensation removes the burn, though she is still heavily wounded. She orders Cryxial forward again and he reluctantly agrees, understanding that with the long range of their bows fleeing is not really an option.
channel positive energy to heal: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 6) = 12
Xanya will channel and activate spontaneous healing, brining her to 27/63 HP, AC 25 (27 with Ikik). Cryxial will double-move, though if there is any cover along the way he'll move into that.

Kiki Bitterdew |

Kiki runs towards 35A using the grass for cover.
stealth : 1d20 + 28 - 20 ⇒ (5) + 28 - 20 = 13
'wow sister is really strong, but that looked like it hurt, I hope she is ok'

Round 4 End
Quassine and Kiki move into position and continue to conceal themselves in the tall grass or bushes. Aster moves up to stay with Xanya and Cryxial, although the centaur is dead by the time he arrives to aid in the attack.
Round 5 Begin
Xanya 24
Goliath 21
Wyvern 18
Gnolls 14
Fire Giant 13
Quassine 12
Cryxial and Aster 12
Kiki 7
Simon/Aster 6
Cryxial moves to the cover of a nearby bush as Xanya channels her healing.
Goliath moves forward, ready to deal with the giant and the gnolls.
Wyvern stabilize DC 10: 1d20 + 4 - 9 ⇒ (2) + 4 - 9 = -3 - fail, -1 hp
The gnolls move again and launch their volley of arrows this time at Goliath from 130' away.
gnoll composite longbow attack vs AC 25: 1d20 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (10) + 1 - 2 = 9
gnoll composite longbow attack vs AC 25: 1d20 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 1 - 2 = 15
gnoll composite longbow attack vs AC 25: 1d20 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 1 - 2 = 19 - natural 20, autohit

gnoll composite longbow attack vs AC 25: 1d20 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (14) + 1 - 2 = 13
gnoll composite longbow attack vs AC 25: 1d20 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (2) + 1 - 2 = 1
gnoll composite longbow attack vs AC 25: 1d20 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (9) + 1 - 2 = 8
gnoll composite longbow attack vs AC 25: 1d20 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (10) + 1 - 2 = 9
gnoll composite longbow attack vs AC 25: 1d20 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (15) + 1 - 2 = 14
gnoll composite longbow attack vs AC 25: 1d20 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (19) + 1 - 2 = 18
The flight of arrows all fall short or bounce off Goliath's defenses, aside from one arrow that was well placed. Goliath however bats it away harmlessly. Deflect arrows used
The giant advances with the gnolls (all enemies are just 4 squares east of the edge of the map) and hurls another flaming boulder. This time aiming for Goliath as well.
fire giant attack vs AC 25: 1d20 + 10 - 2 ⇒ (6) + 10 - 2 = 14 - miss
The flaming boulder goes wide and bounces with a thump in the grass, landing with a thump and rolling for a bit.
grass save: 1d20 ⇒ 15
The grass doesn't seem to catch on fire.
Quassine, Kiki, Simon/Aster go.
I double moved Simon up to stay with Goliath, and moved Aster back to rejoin Simon and Goliath. Simon if you are there feel free to rework your actions.

Xanya Zellor |

My suggestion is for everyone to move forward so we can charge etc next round (or just move and attack if Kiki casts stone call). It's kinda hard to figure out, even if we can see the map since it requires coordination between everyone. @CaveToad: How strict are you about spell templates? Would be kinda nice if Simon could catch the giant + maybe a few gnolls in entangle. The default template creates a diagonal, not a straight line though. It got a really long range so he can do that while moving forward. For Xanya I'm thinking to move her so she is exactly 85 feet away from the fire giant, that means she can charge and both she and Cryxial can attack while the giant would be 5 feet short of charging (if he can move through difficult terrain. Preferably she would also be somewhat behind Goliath (he has shorter movement anyway and can't charge through difficult terrain).
Xanya quaffs another extract while Cryxial storms forward. "Enough waiting. I was careful and healed, see?!?! Let's engage now." She is angry at having to wait even though she certainly understands the logic of healing while waiting for the others to catch up.
Cure light wounds: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

Kiki Bitterdew |

Kiki starts to speak arcane sounding words and points at her enemys with one hand, while making a rising and wirling and down again gesture with her lower two hands.
A cloud of rocks and dirt raises from the ground, swirling up and steteling down again, bludgeonning everyone caught inside and creating a field of treacerous terain.
cast stone call, so it hits the giant and as many gnolls as possible.
Satisfied with the result she moves closer to the enemy, drawing needle and two stakes.
move to 39B
stealth(full speed): 1d20 + 28 - 5 ⇒ (19) + 28 - 5 = 42

Quassine Alator |

Does it look like the Gnolls and Giant are still advancing?

Xanya Zellor |

Looking at it, there isn't actually such a thing as a 40 foot template, so we would have to wing it anyway. Could you draw a 40 foot template as you envision it on the map then CT? My suggestion would be to use something very similar to the Huge (tall) template from here: http://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamemastering/combat/space-reach-threatened-area-te mplates

CaveToad |

@Quassine: Yes, they seem to be doing a move, and fire, move and fire as they get closer. Knowing what you know of the ranges of composite bows, they will soon be in their primary range and shooting without penalty, although difficult still given the group's defenses.
@Xanya: Sure, I will see what I can come up with.

Xanya Zellor |

I would suggest to put the template so it hits the gnolls either north or south and barely clip the giant so we can still engage it in melee withough going into difficult terrain.

Quassine Alator |

Since Quassine has lost cover and concealment positions, he holds his position waiting for the Gnolls and Giant to get closer. And to see what the rest of the party is doing.
Message in the direction of where Xanya is hiding, "I am waiting for Goliath and our enemies to be in charging distance. We should charge the giant all at the same time with our goal to bring it down first."

Xanya Zellor |

"Why would they come closer?! That makes no sense whatsoever. They are already close enough to fire without penalty! We need to engage hard and fast or we'll be turned to pincushions."

CaveToad |

Round 5
Kiki's stone call hammers the gnolls and the giant and turns the ground into a rough uneven jagged field.
stone call: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 1) = 2 (wow that could have been better)
I moved Simon closer so he can try Snowball or some other spells. Not sure if he was going to actually entangle or not. It has probably mixed results and efficicacy.
Round 6 go!

Xanya Zellor |

I moved Xanya on the map according to the actions I described earlier. Aster is very far back, barely inside 1 rangeincrement from the gnolls, is that intentional? I would think he would be much further up...

Simon Saito |

Aster charges forward, intent on taking out as many gnolls as possible.
Simon moves forward with the group, continuing his performance and keeping as many as possible in range of that and the banner.
Don't we need to get closer before we're in spell range?

CaveToad |

@Simon: depends on the spell, some long range spells like entangle you can launch for a looong way off. Shorter range spells like snowball etc you have to be practically on top of them, at least at low levels.
I moved Aster up on the map. Simon are you able to access and edit the map?
Round 6
Xanya 24
Goliath 21
Wyvern 18
Gnolls 14
Fire Giant 13
Quassine 12
Kiki 7
Simon/Aster 6
Xanya continues her move into position to take on the group of enemies. Goliath follows suit converging with Xanya to provide maximum punch.
I doubled moved Goliath up towards the enemies. He motions with his sword toward the southern gnolls where it will be easy access without having to traverse the stone call. He points to the fire giant and sweeps his fingers south indicating, what you think is that Goliath believes the giant will move south to engage the group if they assault from the direction....hopefully, or he will just take you all down with flaming boulders, a real and deadly possibility.
Wyvern Stabilize DC 10: 1d20 + 4 - 10 ⇒ (12) + 4 - 10 = 6 - fail -1 hp
The rain of debris on the gnolls injured them only minorly but now covers the ground and hampers their movement. They seem only slightly concerned and seem to be moving with different tactics now. They hobble carefully through the terrain and then they fire another volley of arrows.
Gnoll #1 composite longbow vs Goliath AC 25: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11 - miss
Gnoll #2 composite longbow vs Goliath AC 25: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7 - miss
Gnoll #3 composite longbow vs Goliath AC 25: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9 - miss
Gnoll #4 composite longbow vs Xanya AC 23: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 - miss
Gnoll #5 composite longbow vs Xanya AC 23: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11 - miss
Gnoll #6 composite longbow vs Xanya AC 23: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12 - miss
Gnoll #7 composite longbow vs Cryxial AC 14: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9 - miss
Gnoll #8 composite longbow vs Cryxial AC 14: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6 - miss
Gnoll #9 composite longbow vs Cryxial AC 14: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 - miss
Gnoll #10 composite longbow vs Aster AC 22: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6 - miss
Gnoll #11 composite longbow vs Aster AC 22: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9 - miss
Gnoll #12 composite longbow vs Aster AC 22: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7 - miss
The pathetic gnolls perhaps rattled by the stone call, minor though the damage was fail to shoot very accurately.
The giant also steps cautiously forward to meet the oncoming attackers. He hurls another boulder, this one comes for Goliath.
Fire Giant boulder vs Goliath AC 25: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24 - juuuust missed
Knowing that he cannot bat away a boulder, Goliath flinches as he ducks and the flaming boulder flies close enough to his head that he feels the heat and it singes his eyebrows a little. It lands and tumbles in the grass behind him.
grass save: 1d20 ⇒ 6 - fail
The grass smolders and some smoke comes out of it. Likely this could start a prairie like fire, but it is no immediate danger. Although it may spread over successive rounds.
Quassine, Kiki, Simon, Aster go round 6. Xanya/Goliath round 7

Xanya Zellor |

Yay, another round without damage :). I guess I'll wait for the rest to move as what I do kinda depend on them. I really do think it's better to handle the giant head on, then just kill the gnolls with AoO's (or ignore them). Sadly Goliath just double moved rather than using a run action so he can't engage it this round even though Xanya can. Heading in alone is kinda dangerous given how wounded she is. :(

I considered a run, but you lose your dex on a run, and considering the giant JUST missed him, it probably saved him a headache.

That's a good question, it may be only while moving. In any eveny, Goliath should be able to move up to melee range this round.
I am eager to move it along, I will bot Simon and/or Kiki if we don't hear from them in a bit.

Ok, I am ready too. I will be lurking in the thread for the day and weekend.
