It's a sign. Ashe clearly has to be a team player,or in the future he will become the dreaded ANTI-PALADIN! Pulls knife.Hey, Ashe turn around a sec.

YUCK! Anti-paladins a truly VILE, Verminous, perverted, scum... no honor and no courage what-so-ever. Even Evil beings stay away from them - they are rotten to the core with nothing at all admirable about them.
If Ashe even thinks he's heading that way... you'll have to stop him from committing suicide first!

I'm not grandstanding. I'm following the hook that the DM Megan presented to the party. It could be nothing... and certainly not anything being fired upon within the city wall - so as to likely be a personal threat.
The DM gave a location and Ashe went to investigate. I figured you would come as well following the hook as presented. I was perfectly fine with having Ashe simply go home and go on to the next day.
Ashe... unlike the rest of the party is at least an honorary Korvosan Guard member. It would make sense for him to find out what would cause the City to use its weapons in the middle of the night.
If Megan would not have wanted it to been investigated she could have simply posted that the next day dawned and that in the morning there was news that the city was firing is weapons last night.
To note further... Majenko did not tell the party what Ashe sent him to tell them either. Ashe was not interested in waking them or getting them to come along... its not their responsibility. He's the Korvosan Guardsman... not them! He sent Majenko to tell them that he was going to find out why the city was firing it weapons and if something was the matter or the city in danger somehow.
Why didn't Majenko tell them this? Cause he's not lawful good but neutral good and does not always do exactly what Ashe wishes of him or exactly the way Ashe wants him to do things.
Majenko figured there is action 'maybe' and perhaps more adventure.. so OF COURSE the Adventurer's would want to be involved! At least that his thinking.
Your mixing your personal opinions with role-playing a character. Ashe has no idea what the party is discussing and neither does the party know what he is doing or why.

Varrel |

His actions are fair enough. I agree he is a guardsman. We'll finish our reading.Ashe can catch up later.

Hey don't blame this on me.
You guys knew Ashe and Varrel were going to take the rescued girl to the Temple of Pharasma to be safe at least temporarily... and YOU chose to not be involved!
None of you presented a plan for the rescue and when Ashe did no one objected.. then again that's because you had chosen not to be involved from the get go when we {as in Diggle, Varrel, and Ashe} meet at Hytogg's house trying to get everyone involved but you Specifically avoided getting involved! You might not have agreed with how Ashe decided to resolve the situation but YOU presented no alternative and chose to not be a part of the unfolding story. Since none of you proposed a different plan Ashe went with his. AND Succeeded... which I think is what bugs you the most!
You also knew that Ashe and Diggle were going to go see the Marshal to get the low-down on the results of tonight's efforts... and again you chose to not get involved! In fact, I believe, that was what everyone wanted to do... and again YOU specifically avoided contact.
You also saw the same plot hook Megan posted about the firing siege weapons and once again you chose to not get involved!
YOU chose this not Ashe!
When you guys consistently choose to disengage from the story or the plot hooks the DM presents... yes it turns into a one character show... not my doing! Your choice. :)
Don't worry though, Ashe will report all that he has learned from this evening in the morning!

Let's all remember to separate player from character as well please?
I play with Sunphoenix in another game. THAT character is extremely team oriented and has caused 0 friction at all. If Sunphoenix as a player has a fault it's that he is absolutely trueto whatever char he is playing.
That only seems to be causing an issue here is because the CHAR in this case is an 18 year old hard headed type A personality who, like many paladins, is about his higher calling and duties over anything else.
This does not have to cause friction ooc, as long as we are willing to work it out IC.
Hytogg's suggestion of planning ourselves without worrying about what Ashe is doing can actually work fine and not dissimilar to What varrel suggested by having Una act as 'Leader' as it were and putting Shakhan in up in order of March. Metagame we know we have Melee/Healing covered and IC, Varrel means to demonstrate this by having him rear guard a bit.
Let the CHAR see he is not central to the groups plans and perhaps (with a private word from the Marshall) the young manwill see he needs to fall into line a bit if he wishes to remain with the group on missions. Ashe is smart enough to recognize this group is central to stopping the queen (if only because they are now some of the most powerful individuals inKorvosa) and are his best chance at playing a role in bringingher down.
In game Varrel will try to explain this to Ashe as a friend who does not want to.see a.valuable friend.and ally get left behind.
It's a game guys. Let's have fun with it.

I am trying to have fun. But it is difficult when the actions of one character continue to endanger the rest of the group, or when an individual character runs off when the rest of us are gathering information and strategizing. I am still waiting for Ashe to run into a CR 5 or 6 random encounter with his isolated galavanting. Should be interesting.
Hytogg has it right, I'm afraid. About the only way we can have fun is to ignore Ashe completely and move on our own. Which makes it difficult since Ashe's character is being given more information than us and he's not passing it on. (We weren't even told that the thundering sound was the trebuchet. Heh, a block away and he can't even get the others or tell them whats going on.)

Varrel |

Just to be clear, IF everybody present at the harrowing is willing to be.a part of it, I am suggesting we tie up that loose end.
If ANYONE feels the side mission would detract from the main plot or is simply not interested,Varrel will not ask again. It could even stay in the background till the campaign is over.

Varrel |

C'mon guys. We're on book 2 (yay!) Let's get out there! Cities to,save (Ashe), jewelry to loot (una),magic to learn (hytogg) and shakan has a$$ to kick and wenches to....wench!

Una Therlmagne |

lol... weekend posting is sporadic for me. :) Monday through Friday is best as I am taking more time for myself on the weekends to pursue personal delights and more relaxing interests. I enjoy roleplaying, but sometimes it feels like work. :P

Asherick Whiteplume |

WOOT! Congrats...'M'!

Asherick Whiteplume |

I'm still here... but I'm playing support role right now and letting other take the lead. Very out of character for Ashe I'll admit... but more conducive to others getting a chance to get involved.

Varrel |

Ummm, OK.
I guess we can continue with us four. I'll try to move it a long a bit. I can bring in somebody if we need.
Waiting out.

Asherick Whiteplume |

From a practical point of view do we retain Zellara's Harrow deck? Its in his possession and is I believe important to the plot of our story.
Looks like he got an invite to a Carrion Crown game, best of wishes. Ashe is too far away to read the letter and it would seem nosy and rude, to him, to read someone elses mail. Though he did read it and abandon it on the street...

Varrel |

If hytogg does not return (hope he does btw), we find ourselves a VERY Melee focused party.
Barrel has (almost) no party buffs. - I'll be making big use of Tactical Acumen unless Ashe wants to cast it, Good Spell but relies a lot on positioning.
Varrel can SOD single targets with Slumber and blast a bit, buuuut I really reckon we.could do with either a Witch (access to both Divine and Arcane spells) or a Full cleric.
Just saying... still glad we are moving along again. ;)

Asherick Whiteplume |

Well these first Adventure Paths were written with four player characters in mind. I'm not sure which four Archetypes were suggested for this game though.

Varrel |

Me and Ashe are 1-2 a day. With 1 from everyone else and Meg doing 1 daily update. Hytogg has left but we are moving along again now.
How's life?

DM_Waife_the_BiPolar |

Diglininkel (Diggle) Spindlewell A poor artistic attempt to bring my PC to life. You will see he is in his homely attire.

Asherick Whiteplume |

Wow you guys are SOOOO Ultra cynical!
Ashe identified himself clearly so that:
1) He was not mistaken for a Hellknight
2) He was not taken for some ruffian adventurer looking to scam the locals
3) He clearly let them know he was a paladin of a goddess of Justice and Honor as most folks know paladins of Iomedae are on the level honest folk.
4) Ashe IS a local and some might have indeed recognized his name and be inspired to be more at ease and truthful.
5) He identified himself as associated with the Korvosan Guard as currently he is not wearing their tabard so they will know he is authorized to investigate the sunken ship with the backing of the actual law.
Ashe only took note of their difference when they called him 'Lord' which by the strictest definition... he is NOT a lord - House Whiteplume owns NO lands and thus it is inappropriate and inaccurate for him to allow himself to be called 'Lord'.
If he would have been addressed as Sir.. he would not have corrected them.
Usually Ashe refers to others as Sir out of simple politeness and respect.
You guys ALWAYS take everything Ashe says and turning it in reverse... its silly.
Well I guess we all see what we want to see.
