brvheart |

Actually Hagrym, I had you in front and Ulfgard in the rear so you could get an attack.

Jarvis Ward |

Moving up to the skeleton and attacking.
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

Naomi Chadwick |
yuck, more undead, well I did call it a crypt
Naomi continues to tread water, swimming back away from the animated rotted flesh, she holds the spear in a defensive position and starts to sing a dirge from a famous opera about and animated corps called "It's storming" commonly referred to buy its bridge "step away from the Machine, doctor."
"You've post your thesis, you've gathered the pieces, you've assembled the assembled the parts the last piece a fresh heart and now the storm has started"
5 ft. "step" back, inspire courage, full defense and if needed
swim: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10

brvheart |

Galerio and Turvijagal, you had clear shots when you were up in the init btw

brvheart |

Don't forget all that you are in 8' of water so you are limited to how far you can swim. Those next to the bone pile can crawl on it to attack though/

Turvijagal |

Turvijagal will try hitting the … whatever it is with his masterwork shortsword.
short sword (m.w.): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 171d6 + 2 + 1d6 ⇒ (6) + 2 + (1) = 9
I think he should be able to flank that thing even moving at half speed. Although trying to fight it two handed in this water is a real stretch. I've added +2 to hit for flanking and +1d6 for sneak damage. If I'm wrong about the flank and sneak, make that 15 to hit and 8 damage (which is still a bit of a fluke).

brvheart |

You can get there to attack, but not to flank. It does get it down to 3 though.

Jarvis Ward |

Oh thats the statue

brvheart |

Galerio will fire his crossbow as he was supposed to go first.
crossbow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
damage: 1d8 ⇒ 7
That finishes off the wight. XP=100 each.

brvheart |

Hanging around the neck of a statue in the room is an amulet with the holy symbol of Arden engraved upon it.

"Poor" Cyric |

"Might as well get the amulet and the rest, seeing as we killed... Whatever that was."
He stays alert, helping as they proceed past this point to watch for other dangers. Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15

Naomi Chadwick |
that went better than expected
Naomi stops singing, breathing a sigh of relief, as she treads water she turns to Galerio and says
"Good shot Galerio, seems like that new short sword does just fine Turvijagal. Hey Hagrym you and Jarvis even hit it right?
wonder If I can get Jarvis to dive down to the bone pile, that would be funny
Naomi looks at Jarvis and asks
"Is anyone going to swim down and check its nest?"
swimming to the statue she removes the amulet from around its neck, holding it up and showing it to the team. She continues
"Shall we continue on?"
as the team swims to the next room Naomi Keeps a keen eye out
perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22

brvheart |

Wall niches holding skeletal remains line these 20-foot-by-20-foot chambers.

Hagrym |

"I feel for that poor ranger. Shouldn't have tried to come down here by himself," Hagrym mutters as he swims off after Naomi. "Hold up, woman. Let me lead to keep all the nasty undead down here off you!"
Perception 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

brvheart |

The chamber leads to another small chamber and then back into the entrance room.

"Poor" Cyric |

Cyric frowns, seeing no resolution to the main reason to enter the temple. He keeps an eye out especially for the body of the ranger, or signs that he was in the area.

Jarvis Ward |

Following Hagrym in the nasty water,
"Well at least we know now what happened and can report back, lets be done with this place."
In the next room cast Detect Magic.

Naomi Chadwick |
as they enter the room with the Wall niches holding skeletal remains
Hold up woman? what happened to please and thank you, you spend a couple of days in a swamp with a dwarf and the pleasantries are all gone
Naomi treading water, glares at the Paladin but not saying anything, waits for him to swim forward, as she waits she inspects the niches
perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
into the smaller room
he's right though if one of us is going to get bit by a ghoul and get infected, I would just as soon it be him also
as they swim into the smaller room. Naomi dutifully follows Hagrym through the water, she points out
"It looks like the temple is symmetrical, that means one side is the same as the other, Jarvis."
into the entryway
before they leave Naomi asks there new healer
"Cyric, did you check the bloated corps to make sure it is the ranger we've been looking for, I assumed it is but lets be sure before we leave. Once we get out we will need to bury him"

"Poor" Cyric |

Cyric shakes his head, "The bloated, um, corpse was obviously human. The ranger was a dwarf."
DM Did my 29 perception where we found the wight possibly reveal the corpse of the dwarven ranger amidst the carnage?

brvheart |

The corpse was the dwarven ranger. He had a longsword and shortsword are still strapped to his waist. A belt pouch holds two potions. A gold promise ring (10 gp) adorns his left hand.

"Poor" Cyric |

Oh... Well then revise what I said. I was going by the fact he was a dwarf and your description said: "fresh corpse of a human man"

Jarvis Ward |

"Well when we get back at least we can use this ring as a method of identifying him and letting anyone that needs to know about him know he was found."

Naomi Chadwick |
what is it with this group, can't we find something to fight other than undead, first good idea Jarvis has had, is he doing better or is it just my imagination.

Now, out of the swamp filled temple sans crypt, Naomi goes to the dead dwarven ranger and excepting the promise ring from Jarvis, she places it in the envelope with the letter from Elsabeth and puts them carefully in her pack. She then asks the team
”Good job boys, we excaped fighting undead and no one has a life threatening illness. Shall we camp here for the night, we can bury Rusgart’s body and Hagrym can say a few words, seems only appropriate since he’s helping us find the druid.”
She holds up his journal open to the page with the directions to the clay pillars. She then continues;
”Jarvis is right, maybe when we get a chance we can go to the town of Shieldfane and return the letter and the promise ring to Elsabeth,”
She then bends over and pets Gravy and looking at Cyric smiles adding
”and maybe we’ll leave you there with her, but until then it seems we’ve picked up two strays. Seriously Cyric, good work today without your brother we were a little lost, you seem to be just as competent if not more so, his name may have been “lucky” but I think someone was just teasing him.”
Later, if Hagrym chooses to say a few words.
After the grave is dug and they lay Rusgarts body to rest for the final time, Naomi calls a cello out of the ether, and sitting on a nearby rock begins to play a dwarven dirge. The bass tones reverberate through the swamp telling the story of a heroic battle of seventy-two dwarves protecting their town from raiding giants, dying to the man, as the miners closed the entry tunnels, to save the people. Naomi thought the dirge appropriate; legend had it that Rusgart had been the name of the cities young Earl, who led the seventy-two, leaving a promised fiancé.
edit: sorry Jarvis, didn't mean to crowd your post. I change mine a little to reflect your statement

Hagrym |

Hagrym had never given words of prayer and remembrance before people before. He was clearly uncomfortable and kept his words short and direct. "Um, Rusgart. I hate what befell you. I wish we'd gotten here earlier. Don't worry, though, we took care of the undead that killed you. We'll watch over Gravy for you. He seems like a good sort. We will try to get your note and ring to Elsabeth. May Dwerfater look over you and your family.". The dwarf placed a pebble on the freshly filled in grave. A dwarf would probably appreciate the gesture, he thought.

brvheart |

Oh... Well then revise what I said. I was going by the fact he was a dwarf and your description said: "fresh corpse of a human man"
Umm, that is my error sorry. Rusgart was human not dwarf, but was a dwarf-friend if that counts!

"Poor" Cyric |

lololol well I am sure he was not offended then at being repeatedly called a dwarf and sung dwarven dirges etc haha. Or we could just say he was a dwarf anyway? :P

brvheart |

You all have leeches, fail and you are "nauseated". Can remove them when out of the water.

Naomi Chadwick |
before the "dwarven" funeral fiasco
When Naomi gets out of the water she begins to look at the spear she pulled from the water, seeing the leaches on her arms she screams and begins to tear the off, as the blood trickles down her forarm.
"Leaches, Uuugghh, I hate swamps!
after the "dwarven" funeral fiasco
as Naomi sets up her bedroll and puts the iron pot on for supper she asks the team.
"What do you think boys, keep the same night watch as last night?"
st - Galerio, Cyric and Shandar
2nd - Hagrym, Turvijagal
3rd - Naomi, Jarvis and Ulfgard

Jarvis Ward |

Fortitude: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
"This just gets better and better! I am so ready to find this druid I am going to put her head on a stick for the flies to slowly eat! So Nasty!
Jarvis starts removing the leaches when he gets to land.

Hagrym |

Hagrym tears the leeches off, listening to the others. "I agree, the Druid is the lead we should be following.".
Hagrym turns to those who reviewed the ranger's journal. "Did his diary say what town he was from? If we were to get lucky, it might be on our way. Maybe Elsabeth would want Gravy, too."

Naomi Chadwick |
brv approximately what time is it, I just assumed they would be staying here for the night.
Naomi stops stirring the sea food stew that she had simmering over the fire and answers Hagrym with a smile
I can't resist the urge to tease him a little
"His Journal mentioned that she lived in the town of Shieldfane, maybe we can go there after were done in Anvil Plunge, we could take a look at a map to see where it is. Until then gravy can stay with us right, I'm mean you don't want me skinning him to sell his hide right?"
knowledge, geography: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16 to see if Naomi knows where Shieldfane is.

brvheart |

Shieldfane is not close enough to be known by Naomi. I think after this one is done, the party will need to take a ship to Barkersport to get this on the right continent! Dang Greg and Bill! I will make that a quick a transition as possible

Jarvis Ward |

"I am sure the Dwarves can handle getting in contact with his loved ones for us if we can get them these artifacts, it is the very least they can do for one of their own, I think fixing the scepter is paramount. Perhaps our ranger wants the swamp dog?"
Looking over to Ulfgard at the end.

Galerio |

Trying his best not so show he's got the heebie-jeebies, Galerio attempts to remove the leeches as quickly and safely as possible.
Fort Save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

"Poor" Cyric |

fort: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Cyric groans dramatically, picking leeches from various places. He goes to help Galerio as well as he notices him start wretching at the leeches and their effect on him, helping to remove the rest.
He finishes, dries off and wrings out his shirt, and pets Lucky the coyote, "I think I'll take care of Lucky, for now. He seems to like me, and we both seem to be equally miserable in our current environment..." Cyric tosses him the piece of jerky he left outside.
Can't wait until swamp water isn't a natural occurence.
He replies to Naomi, "Thanks, doing what I can. And anything is better than being stranded out here by this ranger who went spelunking." He also mutters something about how damned right he's more competent than his brother which is barely audible.

brvheart |

The night goes by peacefully. The next morning the party now has a canoe they can use along with the rafts so 2-3 can go in a canoe. In the mid afternoon they come across a leaning stone silo is all that remains of a farm. The top of the silo stands 20 feet above the waterline, leaning against the foundation of a submerged stone barn.

Hagrym |

"Does anyone see anything worth investigating here? We've been out here for a while. We could always use this as a chance to stretch our legs, I suppose, if we could get up that silo."

brvheart |

I thought gravy was coming with you.
All the sudden something big appears out of the top of the silo and throws a rock at the canoe.
