Orin's blow nearly decapitates the creature and Prazil's lance lays it low. It's still breathing, though its wounds don't seem to be healing for the moment, thanks to Kereek's acid.

You can finish it off easily, if you want, and then you're free to move on.

Other than the foodstuffs, there's little of immediate apparent interest in the room.

Here's the description again, since it's been a while in real time since you've seen it...
The air in this cavern seems somewhat cooler than that of the rest of complex, but the stench of decaying flesh hangs heavy in the air. Along the walls are stacked the carcasses of dozens of beasts, from foxes and wolves to deer and elk, as well as a couple of horses and what appears to be a skinned bear. The southern portion of the room holds a grislier collection of corpses: the bodies of several humanoids, from gnomes and halflings to humans and elves. Most of the cadavers seem to have been decapitated.

"We taking this tunnel here?" Agnar asks, pointing down the nearest passage.


Treshiell frowns. "Troll food", she says with a grimace. "We should continue to find Harulka. If he's here."

That tunnel is as good as any :) Forward!

Moving down the last passage, you find a large cavern, the ceiling arching thirty feet overhead. A wagon with its wheels removed sits against the eastern wall, heaped with smelly furs, and a single barrel stands in the southwest corner. Against the northern wall, a crude throne carved from a giant tree stump sits atop a makeshift dais made of boulders, with a large bearskin spread on the floor before it.

A familiar troll wearing a beaten crown sees you approach in astonishment and stands up, bellowing in outrage.

"Interlopers! Prepare to die!" Hargulka yells.

I suspect this big boss troll has too much natural armor for this to matter, but Prazil's banner nets you an additional +1 to hit (morale) on that charge attack, Orin!

He has better luck against Orin, claws drawing blood 9 hp, though the half-elf is able to duck under the sovereign troll's massive jaws.

Agnar calls down Erastil's favor on the group as Kereek bathes the troll king in fire, drawing a cry of pain.

Prazil tries to distract it but is too focused on making sure Spike isn't harmed as the small dinosaur gores impotently at the troll. Despite his failure, Orin manages to connect twice, laying into Hargulka with savage blows. Reeling, he withers more Treshiell's stare, before gathering himself and launching a furious assault on Orin.

The half-elf sees stars as the troll king's morningstar catches him across the chest, and he's barely able to reel backward to avoid the backswing and Hargulka's claws. He just catches his footing in time for the troll's fangs to close on his arm, ripping and tearing at his flesh. 17 and 10 hp

Worse, you hear noises coming up the tunnel from behind you, and Treshiell and Orin turn to see a huge two-headed troll approaching at a steady lope, claws raised for mayhem!

His eyes wide with a mix of surprise and disgust, he turns his attention back to the troll king before him. "Nevermind two-heads, you am not for hurting people any more, Har... Trollking!" With a few deft thrusts, the spirited kobold works a few openings in Hargulka's defense that Orin might exploit.

Another gout of flame causes his skin to blister and burn, but he keeps his feet, swinging again at Orin and catching him with morningstar, claw and fangs. 17, 15 and 19 hp, for 51 hp total The half-elf staggers at the horrid wounds, but somehow keeps his feet. By my reckoning, Orin's at 1 hp

Prazil and Spike continue to distract the enemy sovereign, opening him up for Orin's next swing.

Treshiell casts her spell at the two-headed troll and the foe blinks a couple times, but doesn't fall. He rushes forward, but his claws merely scrape harmlessly off Agnar's armor.

Agnar heals the badly wounded Orin, who continues to press his attack. He manages to hit Hargulka twice, and the troll king's eye grow wide as he realizes the extent of the injuries.

"Nagrundi, kill them!" he chokes out before he collapses, his wounds still knitting closed.

The other troll's two heads roar in anger as Prazil stands guard over the badly hurt Orin and Kereek bathes him in fire. Treshiell turns her gaze to him, bringing ill fortune on him. Changed to evil eye on Nagrundi, -2 to attacks

Despite his flaming skin, the creature advances, and swipes at Treshiell, but the witch's curse is too much for him to overcome and his claws fly wildly over her head.

Avoiding the two-headed trolls claws and teeth, Agnar casts a spell, pointing at the beast and declaring "By the power of Erastil, you shall not strike anyone! Old Deadeye forbids it!"

Casting forbid action on the two-headed troll. Will save DC 14 negates. Failure means he can take no attacks until after my next initiative.

Kereek and Orin combine to make sure there's no chance Hargulka can regenerate, detaching his head from his shoulders. The king is dead; long live the king!

Across the room, though, the battle still rages as Agnar imposes his and Erastil's will on the two-headed beast, who take a lance blow from Prazil, who rushes to intersperse himself between it and his allies.

Treshiell casts her own spell, backing up slightly and disappearing from sight. I figured with Agnar's spell, you didn't need to cast defensively, plus Prazil was in the way and there wasn't actually any reason you couldn't have just taken the 5-foot step back and cast normally.

Mechanics:

Kereek turns from the fallen troll-king, an odd emptiness at the death of one who could have been a force for good for his people. He turns back to the two-headed troll and snarls. He launches his last fireball at the troll, trying to aim just behind it to avoid burning his allies and friends.

Engulfed in the shadows Treshiell floats away from the two headed troll, eventually ending up at the stone throne, next to the lifeless body of Hargulka. From there she emerges with her eyes fastened on Nagrundi and spits out a curse.

Move action to put some distance between me and the troll.
Cast Slumber hex (DC17 will save) on Nagrundi to put him to sleep for 6 rounds.


Male Human (Ulfen) Cleric 10

Agnar steps back from the troll before the forbiddance wears off, dropping his longspear and taking his bow in hand. He nocks an arrow, takes aim, and fires, smiling as the missile slides innocuously around Orin to the target, then cursing as it fails to strike the target.

Five foot diagonal step behind Orin before firing. The bow is attuned to him, so he doesn't provide soft cover to the troll.

Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8 Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
