Pae unequips his ring of protection +1 and adjusts the ring of the ram so that it begins to function. (Huge grey area, but we'll call that a move action). He then unleashes a blast of force at the orange fire giant near Bahir.

ring of ram, 3 charges: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 5) = 9 force damage, no bull rush due to distance

Silver Crusade

Efreat, he is within reach. You had to fly down low enough last time to be able to lightning bolt both of them in a line.

=== Round 3 (B) ===

Bahir motions for Efreat and Hazreem in particular to continue their area assaults (if possible) while he and Pae continue to occupy them. Hazreem, still wanting to take advantage of his frostbite spell touches the giant attacking Efreat (red gretsword). The fire giant reels in shock as Hazreem’s icy touch hurts and suddenly fatigues him (22=15+7 cold non-lethal, fatigued). Mah’ysa, calls upon the power of her Staff of Courage, showering the party with the prayer and blessings of Sarenrae (Prayer affects entire party and red, green, and orange fire giants). Efreat defensively casts shocking touch and delivers a nasty jolt to the now fatigued fire giant in front of him (17 electricity), and though the giant looks like he could collapse any moment he still remains in the fight. Not done yet, Efreat then casts quickened magic missile that strikes the giant and knocks him unconscious, though not dying. With the giant in front of him now unconscious, Pae unequips his ring of protection and re-equips the ring of the ram allowing it to function. He then unleashes a blast of force at the orange fire giant near Bahir (9 force damage). Pae then orders the bear to swing back behind Efreat to guard their flank.

Fire Giant attack:

Purple greatsword, boulder: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13 for rock: 1d8 + 15 ⇒ (8) + 15 = 23 and 0 fire (negated by FR)

The (purple) fire giant presses his boulder assault by again throwing at Efreat. The boulder flies harmlessly beyond the entire party striking the ground far off into the inner courtyard.

If by laws, you mean us baring our necks to be slaughtered, you can bet I defy you and those you serve!" He slices out viscously at the giant in front of him.

Silver Crusade

Bahir, while I work up this next round offline please show me how your roll of 16 and 15 both threaten critical hits. All I am seeing right now is the 17-20 for scimitar and keen (divine bond).

Efreat, in the last 'Current Status' I mistakenly charged you a 5th level slot for your quickened magic missile. I have it corrected in my offline version and will reflect in the next post. It will now show: Efreat: 1st: 5/8 | 2nd: 4/7 | 3rd: 2/7 | 4th: 2/7 | 5th: 4/6 | 6th: 3

Ooh, also someone had inadvertently dragged the map background, which is something I do all the time while thinking I can select multiple things at once. If that happens to you, you can control-Z undo moving the map (or Edit->Undo). I think I mostly got the main figures back in the right spot.

Scarab Sages

Doesn'the keen double the threat range, not just add +1 to it? So the normal 18-20 becomes 15-20.

Silver Crusade

Yes, my mistake!I must have been thinking the old rules or something. :) I rarely use keen with my paladin and otherwise always play casters

Silver Crusade

Bahir, don’t forget that the giant is shaken from scoring a critical with Weapon of Awe up.

=== Round 4 (A) ===

"Do not forget that it was you who struck the first blow. If by laws, you mean us baring our necks to be slaughtered, you can bet I defy you and those you serve!", Bahir banters with the bronze giant as he turns and assaults the (orange) fire giant nearest him. He lands two particularly serious blows into the fire giant’s torso, inflicting critical damage and leaving the fire giant heavily wounded and staggered from the damage and shaken in awe of Tempest. (111 damage to orange fire giant - staggered, shaken -- if only you had one extra point)

“Ho! What lies you speak. May the goddess of fire bring you down, paladin! You unlawfully trespass in Bayt Al-Bazan while under the Vizier’s lockdown and slay guards commissioned to keep looters such as yourselves out.” The bronze giant then charges and slams his mighty fist into Bahir’s mid-section (AC31, 17 physical, awesome charge CMB 38). Despite his magical protections, the force of the blow is so great that Bahir flies backwards 10 feet. (7 damage taken, 10 damage absorbed by stoneskin)

Enemy Rolls:

Bronze giant charging slam: 1d20 + 19 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 19 + 2 = 31 for physical: 2d6 + 12 ⇒ (4, 1) + 12 = 17 -- Hit

----

    Boulder wielding fire giants (artillery):
  • The (red) fire giant grabs a boulder, hurls it at Bahir and misses, likely due to trying not to hit the bronze giant (Red, AC 16)
  • The (blue) artillery fire giant grabs a boulder, hurls it at Efreat and also misses. (Red, AC 23)

    Greatsword wielding fire giants:
  • The (pink) fire giant tosses the boulder he was carrying at Hazreem, hitting him hard (AC27 hit, 20 phys + 2 fire = 23 total damage) and moves closer to the melee.
  • The (yellow) fire giant draws her greatsword and rushes up towards the melee.
  • The (blue) fire giant double moves as well to close in on the melee taking place.
  • Staggered, shaken, and near death, the (orange) fire giant’s anger at Bahir overcomes his any thoughts of self preservation. He brings his greatsword down onto Bahir in a crushing blow upon his shoulder. (AC38, Hits, AC19 to Confirm - no crit, 27 physical damage). The fire giant then collapses to the ground, unconscious and dying. (17 damage taken, 10 absorbed by stoneskin)

    Glaive wielding fire giants:
  • The two glaive wielding fire giants (red, blue) charge Efreat in unison.
  • The (red) fire giant’s charging glaive attack was aimed well enough to hit Efreat (AC43) but instead hits one of his mirror images. (2 images remain)
  • Likewise, the (blue) glaive fire giant hits and destroys one of Efreat’s images (AC 45, 1 image remains)

    Hell Hound + New Fire Giant:
  • The large hellhound backs away from the door as a new fire giant steps out. Seething with rage, he lashes out at the large hellhound with a half-hearted kick before he realizes what is going on. Upon seeing the battle, he raises his white hot warhammer and roars loudly.

Efreat, yes the glaive wielding fire giants are quite capable of striking you where you currently are. You would need to fly over or up a bit. I don’t see anything that bumps your Concentration check but let me know if I rolled wrong below (DC21 for fireball)

=== Round 4 (B) ===

Player Rolls:

Efreat defensively casts fireball (cold) and an explosion of cold jostles the bronze giant and glaive wielding fire giants. All 3 giants appear to be able to dodge away just enough to avoid the full force of the blast (19 cold bronze giant, +50%=28 to fire giants). Hazreem, repositions and makes another touch attack with frostbite (3rd touch) on the (Red) glaive wielding fire giant threatening Efreat. His icy touch hits, causing painful cold damage and fatigues the giant. (24 cold, non-lethal, fatigued). Mah’ysa, calls upon the healing power of Sarenrae to restore life to her friends (Channel heal for 21 hit points to all). Pae unleashes another blast of force from his ring at the (blue) glaive fire giant near Efreat (16 force damage, bull rush fails). Pae, then orders the bear to attack the nearest fire giant. The grizzly bear steps up and hits the (blue) glaive fire giant with 2 claw attacks but its bite misses (15 damage)

I had forgot to tick off the rounds left on your buffs last round, as well as Mah’ysa’s channel, they are reflected in this current status instead. Bahir, you forgot the prayer bonus and I added that in below

=== Round 5 (A) ===

Now realizing their situation looks quite suspicious to the Vizier’s guards, [bigger[Bahir[/bigger] continues to make their case with the bronze giant all the while not giving up on the fight. He focuses in on the glaive fire giant (red) attacking Efreat and calls upon Sarenrae’s power to smite him. Bahir then defensively presses his attack, grazing the fire giant (AC26, vs. red, 30 damage).

Before attacking, the bronze giant replies in kind, ”There is no Jhavhul here and I cannot believe you were taken hostage in full gear by Vezzaresh and his idiot companion. No! More likely looters you are, come for Bayt Al-Bazan’s riches like the rest. The bronze giant moves to the side and then makes a powerful cleaving attack with his titanic longsword at Bahir and Hazreem, hitting both of them with ease. (vs. Bahir: AC39, 39 damage, Bahir takes 29 damage and 10 damage stoneskin; vs. Hazreem: AC37, 45 damage).

----

    Boulder wielding fire giants (artillery):
  • The (red) fire giant grabs a boulder and tosses it at Efreat, missing badly (AC 19)
  • The (blue) fire giant grabs a boulder and moves closer to the melee.

    Greatsword wielding fire giants:
  • The (pink) fire giant charges Bahir with fury, but Bahir’s defensive stance causes him to miss (AC27).
  • The (yellow) fire giant moves to get around the party’s flank.
  • The (blue) fire giant double moves up to his fallen comrade (orange) and survey’s his wounds.

    Glaive wielding fire giants:
  • The (red) fire giant’s swings his glaive viciously with the intent of cleaving into Efreat, Hazreem, and Bahir. The glaive strikes what should have been Efreat, but once again only hits an image (AC29, hit image, 0 images remain). He smiles as there are no more illusory Efreats clouding his vision and brings his glaive across Hazreem swirling mass, striking him hard (AC26, 18 damage). He ends his sweeping arc with a blow that is just barely deflected by Bahir’s powerful holy defenses against him (AC37).
  • Not to be outdone, the (blue) glaive fire giant also swings a flurry of quick, mighty blows cleaving into the grizzly bear, Efreat, and Hazreem. The first attack strikes the grizzly bear and it yelps in pain from the blow (AC28, 24 damage). Without any images to protect Efreat, the giant’s next attack quite easily penetrates Efreat’s defenses, leaving him quite in pain (AC39, 24 damage). His final attack targets the airy Hazreem, nearly striking him down (AC38, 20damage). Though it is hard to gauge how wounded Hazreem is as an air elemental, he surely cannot take much more of a beating.

    Blacksmith fire giant:
  • The blacksmith fire giant, wielding a white hot warhammer runs towards the melee shouting obscenities in giant for having his work disturbed.

    Hell Hound:
  • The large hellhound rushes back towards the fray, but disappears behind the large section of wall. (not in line of sight by any party members)

Scarab Sages

GM, I believe the targets of a cleave or great cleave attack have to be all adjacent to one another. Might save us some damage hopefully.

EDIT: Not that it effects anything but should the pink charging giant be 5 feet closer to me or does he have over a 10' reach? I understand the glaives probably have 15' foot so maybe some confusion there.

Silver Crusade

Ah, of course they should be adjacent! My head just had them all within reach. Expect a re-do of those attacks when I get a chance. That is what I get for not re-looking it up first. Thanks for keeping me in check! They will instead full attack their first targets: Red Glaive->Efreat, Blue Glaive->Grizzly.

You are right about the pink guy too, no reach. I pushed him up a square.

Scarab Sages

Cool cool, Hazreem and I are in fact adjacent so red could have cleaved us just fine but would have just saved Efreat an image.

Hazreem grunts in pain as the Bronze giant leader makes his presence felt.

"We can't stay out in the open on the ground like this much longer. We need a better advantage."

Pae moves to the wall, activates slippers of spider climb and moves 20ft up (40' movement from haste). He then reaches into his bag of tricks and tosses the fuzzy little ball to the ground. Come on rhinoceros, I know you are in there...

bag of tricks: 1d100 ⇒ 65 = Heavy Horse

Much to Pae's disappointment, the ball strikes the ground and materializes into a heavy horse.

"Oh well. Defend Mah'ysa!", he commands the heavy horse pointing to Mah'ysa.

Hazreem, you need a 5’ step to reach the bronze giant and so pushed you up one square.

=== Round 5 (B) ===

Player Rolls:

Mah’ysa, once again calls upon the healing power of Sarenrae to restore life to her friends (Channel heal for 18 hit points to all).
Hazreem, body aching from the blows he has taken, vocalizes his undying hatred for Bayt Al-Bazan and flies up hoping his frostbite touch can slow the bronze giant down some. He has no trouble touching the enormous bronze giant, inflicting him with a mild case of frostbite (15 cold, non-lethal, fatigued).
Almost instantly, Efreat casts a spell and six images of himself surround him. He then defensively casts another fireball (cold) causing an explosion of cold around the bronze giant, glaive fire giants, and (purple) greatsword giant behind them. This time the blast of cold was particularly effective as the glaive giants and bronze giant are not able to dodge the blast. However, the purple greatsword wielding giant behind them does manage to avoid the full force of the spell (38 cold to bronze giant, +50%=57 to glaive giants, 28 to purple greatsword). The glaive giants, previously injured from their battle with whatever lies beyond in the great door to the palace, look particularly worse for wear even before taking the full force of Efreat’s cold infused fireball. Upon being hit by the blast of cold, the red glaive giant falls over unconscious.
Pae rushes towards the near wall and climbs up it about 20 feet. He then tosses down a ball from the bag of tricks near Mah’ysa. A heavy horse appears and Pae orders it to defend Mah’ysa.

Enemy saves:

Red Glaive Reflex dc18 fireball: 1d20 + 6 - 1 ⇒ (3) + 6 - 1 = 8 (fatigue-1) - Fail

Purple Greatsword Reflex dc18 fireball: 1d20 + 9 - 1 ⇒ (16) + 9 - 1 = 24 (fatigue-1) - Pass

With Efreat moving too high up, the (purple) fire giant nudges the glaive giant aside and moves to attack Hazreem. Hazreem takes another particular nasty blow from the giant’s greatsword (AC27, 33 damage).

Well no crits this time but 152 damage to the Pink giant. If it just takes the first three blows to down the pink giant then the final slash will be at the Bronze Giant. AC is again 31 versus all.

The paladin moves forward and shows the fire giant the error of his decision to charge, "In full gear it was, because he trapped us in another pocket plane and had his lackey Vezzaresh place the only way out in this prison. I'd say ask Vezzaresh yourself but he is now dead. Now pull back your forces before you needlessly lose any more of your giants!"

Scarab Sages

Here is a diplomacy roll, if you want one, for the ongoing hostile negotiations with Bahir: 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (19) + 24 = 43

Silver Crusade

Bahir, I have you current CMD at 26 (25 from your sheet, +1 from Str (enlarged), -1 from Dex (enlarged), +1 size (enlarged). Let me know if there is something else. I also keep forgetting to update the rounds of buffs left - they are caught up with this post.

=== Round 6 (A) ===

Locked in a battle of wills and might, Bahir responds in kind to the bronze giant, claiming they were trapped in a demiplane and then imprisoned here by Jhavhul’s lackies. Anger focused into Tempest, and perhaps combined with Vardishal’s anger as well, Bahir savagely lands 3 deep wounds with the Tempest. The (pink) fire giant crumbles to the ground, thick blood gushing from his wounds (3 hits, 111 damage). Bahir uses his final attack against the bronze giant, scoring a deep cut into his metallic flesh (AC 28, 41 damage). Though some damage was surely absorbed by his thick, metallic skin the bronze giant looks hurt and now hopping mad.

”Gahhh”! The bronze giant responds with another crushing blow that sends Bahir hurdling back 10 feet (CMB29, 26 damage + pushed 10’). ”You have no authority in this place! You will lay your weapons down now and come with me! The more of us you kill, the more of the Vizier's wrath you will incur.” (Bahir takes 16 damage and 10 absorbed by stoneskin) He then steps back 5 ft., points to the two fire giants near the stairs (yellow, blue) and shouts in giant, ”Oghar , Drassk , alentaa Fangpyre”!

”Oghar, Drassk, bring down Fangpyre”

The blow lands solidly into Hazreem’s swirling form (AC37, 25 damage), but the battle fatigue and severe wounds cause his next two attacks to miss badly (Nat. 1 & AC17)

    Blacksmith fire giant:
  • The blacksmith fire giant charges Mah’ysa landing a solid blow with his flaming, white-hot(extra 1d6 fire) warhammer (AC39, 22 physical + 3 fire). The heavy horse tries to attack in response to the fire giant’s charge but cannot penetrate its defenses. (Nat. 1)

Almost forgot, perception checks for everyone

Scarab Sages

While I hope my last attack hit, it may not have and it definitely did less damage. Since I don't have smite evil going on the brass giant my to hit roll was seven less (Hit AC 21) and my damage was less the smite evil and holy damage (19 damage total).

You have my CMD right tho, thanks for checking.

Silver Crusade

Hah, I should have been better curious how you did 41 damage with a non-smite/non-crit/non-evil attack. It would not have normally hit, but for convenience's sake (i.e. mine) we will roll with it. Vardishal smiles down upon you!

Round 6_______________

As if reading Bahir's mind, Mah'ysa casts Blade Barrier with the giants on the far side and her allies on this side. Like Bahir said, placed between myself and the black fire giant and extending north and south with the intention of it going between Hazreem and his foes also.

She then makes a single move towards the stairway Acrobatically (hasted) (60ft).

Silver Crusade

Updated map with Blade Barrier, though you didn't say how long you wanted it or where you wanted it to begin and end. I started with a 220' long barrier that leaves you an opening to get back to the stairway you came up to here from at the north side. Feel free to adjust its dimensions though while we wait for Efreat.

Silver Crusade

Hazreem, you didn’t specify how high up you went. I put you up 45’ to keep you out of the threat range from the bronze giant. Efreat, you didn’t specify where to drop the fireball. I opted for the grouping of fire giants below you instead of on the bronze giant leader.

=== Round 6 (B) ===

With the situation now calling for a possible retreat, Mah’ysa, defensively calls forth a blade barrier to help protect the party’s flank and allow them to better move safely to the stairway where they came up. While the whirling mass of blades doesn’t immediately injure any of the threatening giants, the unconscious glaive giant and two downed hell hounds are gruesomely sliced up as they are unable to move (Red glaive 36 damage, dying; Green/Purple hounds, 36 damage, deader than dead). Skillfully avoiding an attack from the blacksmith fire giant, Mah’ysa retreats back towards the stairway.
Hazreem, desperately needing to avoid any further attacks from the giants, flies up near the ceiling (45’) and also retreats back towards the exit stairway. He stands ready to touch any enemy with his frostbite charged hand in case something is able to engage him up this high.
Waiting to see whether Bahir retreats or not, Efreat flies up a bit higher and another fireball (cold) spell and points his finger straight down, causing an explosion of cold to hit all 5 fire giants below him. The two unconscious fire giants, unable to move, take full damage from the icy blast slaying them both outright (45 dmg = 30+50%). The (blue) glaive giant is unable to avoid the full force of the blast and crumbles to the ground unconscious (45 dmg = 30+50%). The blacksmith fire giant also is unable to avoid the full icy blast and roars in anger (45 dmg = 30+50%). The (purple) greatsword wielding fire giant deftly avoids the full blast of cold and suffers some minor injuries (Reflex 19, 22 dmg = 15 + 50%). (Efreat, I show you now out of 4th circle spell slots, just fyi)
With Pae’s hopes of flanking crushed, and the party in retreat, he clambers back down the wall and moves up towards Mah’ysa. The horse attempts to retreat on the other side of the barrier but is struck down by the blacksmith fire giant in anger as it flees. Upon being struck with the flaming warhammer, the horse disappears into nothing, much to the visible annoyance of the blacksmith.

Not letting something silly like a wall of death blades get in the way of causing pain, the (purple) fire giant charges through the blade barrier and strikes Bahir with his greatsword. (AC32, 30 damage, Bahir takes 20 and 10 knocked off stoneskin)

GM: I think Reflex is the weak save for giants in general, are you sure he got +9 to his save? He could be special so really just asking. If he does make those saves does Bahir notice anything unusual or special about him and how hurt does he look?

Silver Crusade

My apologies! I copied and pasted from the wrong giant's prevoius attacks. I also forgot to subtract the damage from Blade Barrier and he is not fatigued. So, all around fail on my part. ;-) He doesn't seem any more special than the others and fights like a typical fire giant. Some of the others, however, have class levels.

Subtracting 5 from each save and adding one back (since he is not fatigued) would result in full fireball damage and still pass on blade barrier. I added an extra 43 damage to him.

Just as the fire giant charges into Bahir, the bronze giant speaks up again, "Stay your weapon and we can talk. We can fight to the death later if you wish."

Scarab Sages

Ok, whew, was wondering if he had a smite evil in his future but no. Yeah, that purple giant was about to go down hard but...

Staying in his defensive stance the angelic paladin nods his head, "Very well, call your giants off and I shall sheath my blade."

=== Round 7 (A) ===

As Bahir prepares to smite the charging fire giant, the bronze giant captain calls for a temporary cease to the battle. Bahir nods in agreement and heals himself (LoH 19 hp).

The bronze giant roars out (in giant) ”Giants , pysyä hyökkäyksiä . Haluan kuulla niitä pois . Borzen , te erityisesti tai tekstipuoli vihani.”

Giant:
”Giants, stay your attacks. I wish to hear them out. Borzen, you especially, or face my wrath.”

At his command, the fire giants warily lower their blades and cease advancing. ”Your story Paladin. No Tricks”, the giant continues.

Hazreem gives a sigh of relief as the hostilities have ended, for the moment anyway. He allows the frostbite spell to dissipate as he pulls out his wand and touches one of the many cuts on his elemental body.

He then calls out, "I can help heal your fallen soldiers, Captain. We have no wish to cause further bloodshed."

Even as Bahir negotiates with the bronze giant, he does turn to keep an eye on the genie he saw earlier. I wonder what side he will take here.

Free: Dismiss Frostbite spell.
Standard: Use wand of Cure Moderate Wounds on himself. 2d8 + 3 ⇒ (1, 7) + 3 = 11.

Silver Crusade

Assuming Efreat will hold off for now as well.

Relaxing his defensive position, the bronze giant continues, "Your story, Paladin. I will verify whatever tales you tell. Air Elemental who speaks, I would advise keeping good distance to the fire giants for a time while they cool off. They haven't had a good battle in centuries and their blood boils strong."

Once it is clear that hostilities will not immediately begin anew, the remaining giants begin to collect themselves and tend to the wounded. The fire giants sent downstairs return without retrieving whatever 'fangpyre' may be.

Scarab Sages

Sheathing Vardishal, Bahir purposely flies so that he and the bronze giant are face to face as peers, not one looking down upon the other. "It is a lengthy tale but I shall endeavor to be as brief as I can." He relates the discovery of the scroll and the prison that it held within, the release of Jhavhul and imprisonment of ourselves, the details about how Vezzaresh or some other servant of Jhavhul must have brought the scroll here so that we were all trapped in this prison, our subsequent encounters with the minions of this place. He leaves nothing out except for the Marid princess and her sanctuary. "Thus it is that we seek a way to escape this place and return to our home plane as well as any allies that may assist us in this. We wish to cure the Djinni over there of his affliction to see what he knows and whether he can help us." He waves a hand toward the distant building, "Most recently we cleared out that structure over there from its occupants that consisted of kobolds, salamanders, and an elf assassin. It seems that you yourselves are in conflict with whoever is beyond those doors. Who are they? Perhaps we can assist each other. What say you, will you join with us?"

Silver Crusade

As you tell your tale, the bronze giant eases up a bit (successful diplomacy result). As you finish, he ponders your words for a moment and speaks, "Ho, what a tale indeed! Should it be as you say, I would expect your name to be etched on the tale's of mortals. Before I answer your questions, Sir Knight, I must confer with the Grand Vizier's trusted agent. The Vizier may well be interested in knowing that Jhavhul yet lives and seeks to awaken a spawn of Rovagug; I suspect he is already aware." The bronze giant then motions to the rest of the party, "Have any of you anything to add before I seek counsel?"

Efreat's face screws up, "How do you intend to seek counsel when we are all trapped in here?"
