Legendary Planet: To Worlds Unknown (Inactive)

Game Master Slyness

Sovereign Court

You awaken to the sensation of something damp and viscous covering your face and body. Your first reflex is to wrench two, thin tubes from your nose and open your mouth to extract a small pipe which apparently kept you from drowning in the thick gel now draining through the bottom of an enclosed cylinder supporting your upright body. A harsh light shines from above as you wipe more of this unknown substance from your face and eyes, and your muscles feel weak and uncertain as you push open a transparent window-like door to release you into the room beyond.

Eight, similar cylinders greet your eyes, all arranged along the room’s four, stone walls, forming an irregular octagon. Each one appears constructed of a thick, durable, organic material except for the transparent doors which swing open from the front. Fibrous roots snake down from the 15-foot ceiling overhead, attaching to the top of these cylinders, and a metal plate bolted above them illuminates the room. To the north stands a door bereft of hinges or handles, while a green, three-inch circle slowly blinks on the wall next to it.

The Legendary Planet adventure path firmly grounds itself in the sword-and-planet genre. For those unfamiliar with the history and connotations of this term, sword-and-planet storytelling usually takes the fantastical swashbuckling tales of old and places them on unfamiliar worlds, often those with differing levels of technology from what the transplanted protagonist has experienced on his or her homeworld. When applied to a roleplaying game, players can expect fantastical magic, exotic planets, alien cultures, and strange technology. Note: This adventure spans many planets, but is not a space adventure. To the best of my knowledge, there are no starships or space travel.

This is the Player’s Guide. While I feel that player’s guides should be free, this one is not. However, it does include four new races and twelve new background features. If you want more specifics about one of these races, let me know:

• The Auttaine are half-constructs that have a constructed portion of their body that includes a unique, personalized modification you crafted and installed yourself when you came of age. – from internalized weapons to component pouches.

• Chlorvians are half-plant people, counting as both a humanoid and plant for any effect related to race.

• The Tretharri are 4-armed philosophers and seekers of self-perfection.

• The Zvarr are a race of dragon-like humanoids renowned for their cunning, greed, and subterfuge. They share a number of characteristics with dragons, including their long lifespans and long incubation periods, but much to the zvarr’s chagrin, they do not share the ability of flight.

Character Creation:

Stats: Standard 27 point buy

Class: D&D 5e Core (no Unearthed Arcana)

Level: 2

Race: Core, Volo’s, Player’s Guide

Alignment: No evil or overly-selfish characters.

Multiclassing: I’m not saying never, but players should plan on it not being allowed.

Feats: Unearthed Arcana Racial and Skill feats are approved.

Backstory: If you’re trying to hunt down your parents’ killer, this is not the adventure you’re looking for. Due to the nature of the adventure, it is unlikely that you will encounter anyone from your past. As an alternative, please answer as many of these as apply:

-What is your physical appearance, bearing, mannerisms, and quirks? This should include a physical description with height, build, hair and eye color that needs to be on your character sheet.

-What was your childhood like?
-What is your relationship to the gods and religion?
-Do you have an easy way with strangers?
-Do you play well with others?
-Do you identify with a particular animal or element?
-What do you find creepy?
-What specific goals do you have, if any?
-What secrets do you have?
-What does someone else know about you that you do not?
-Do the ends justify the means?

Players: Four total, three will be recruited. One spot is taken already by my pal who seems set on playing a Half-elf Paladin (Oath of the Ancients).

Recruitment Ends: Undetermined, depends on interest.

About Me: Terms and Conditions may apply:

As a DM: My experience is limited, but I have gathered a fair amount of advice from my own pals, and my experiences as a player. I will make an effort to be a “yes” DM and encourage RP and creativity. My strength as a player is RP, and that’s the aspect of the game that I most enjoy. However, APs tend to have a lot of combat. I might skip over some of the “random” encounters if I feel like it’s too many between story elements.

In regards to D&D5e: I have neither played, nor DM’ed a 5e game. Part of the reason I’m starting this game is to increase my exposure and experience with it. That is why I’m mostly sticking to Core rules. Also, I will make mistakes, and so will other players. When that happens, please be polite and constructive.

Posting rate and Duration: I’d like to have at least one post per day during the weekdays. This AP is designed to go to level 20. I’d love to see it through, but that is likely to take years. If you tend to become bored with characters or games, please pass this game over. As always, real life comes before a game, just be respectful of everyone who invests their time and effort in a game like this.

Terms and Conditions: It’s important to me that players understand what they are getting into and read more than just the creation rules. To that effect, please place a line in your interest or character post, “I have read the terms and conditions”. I mean it humorously, and yet, take it seriously. It’s important to me that everyone has a great experience and has their expectations met.

Ah. I'll play a High Elf Eldritch Knight (Later).
Xanril Highstone

For the Questions

Spoiler:

1. My character would have silver hair and golden eyes. He would be 5' 7", and would be about 115 pounds. He is a rather brash guy, but is quiet polite in diplomatic situations.

2. Xanril's childhood consisted of constant battle training in both magic and fighting. He carries his spellbook still, but doesn't have the power to use it yet.
3. Xanril could care less about any gods. They haven't done anything for him.
4. Xanril tends to get along with others quite easily, but just rubs the wrong way against some people.
5. Xanril prefers to fight in with a group, but can fight alone.
6. Xanril doesn't care much for animals, but quite likes dragons.
7. Xanril is fearless, and the only thing he ever worries about is losing his friends and family.
8. Xanril has no real goals, he only adventures for the fun of it.
9. Xanril keeps little secret, except for his knowledge of magic, which he has never told anyone about.
10. Xanril doesn't know many people, so not many people know about him.
11. The ends don't always justify the means. No one has to die for another.

I have read the terms and conditions. ✔

I love 5e. I have also read the terms and conditions.

I'll dot for a Dwarven Barbarian:

Questions:

-What is your physical appearance, bearing, mannerisms, and quirks? This should include a physical description with height, build, hair and eye color that needs to be on your character sheet.

My character is 4'8", 245 lbs of pure muscle, with black hair he cut into a short mohawk, and an eyepatch over his left eye. His right eye gleams with a deep amethyst color.

-What was your childhood like?

My character was born the only son of a clan leader. He was taught the finer things in life, at least from the perspective of a Dwarf: Sharp blades, cold beer, a hot forge, and killing the enemies of his people.

-What is your relationship to the gods and religion?

My character believes that the gods should remain in heaven and leave the mortal world to mortals.

-Do you have an easy way with strangers?

Yes. I offer them a pint, and if it leads to a brawl, so much the better.

-Do you play well with others?

see above.

-Do you identify with a particular animal or element?

Bear/Earth

-What do you find creepy?

Gnomes, short creatures with beards.

-What specific goals do you have, if any?

Find glory for my family's name, have a good fight.

-What secrets do you have?

When I left the clan on my 20 year training voyage, I never intended to return. Being a noble and listening to people's problems are not my ways.

-What does someone else know about you that you do not?

I am the child of an extra marital affair.

-Do the ends justify the means?

Sometimes.

I don't normally tend towards the exotic, but this seems like a game for it.

We appear to have submissions for a Paladin (guaranteed), Eldritch Knight and Barbarian, while I appreciate the swordsman aspect of planetary romance style adventures, I think we need a spellcaster.

I've taken a look over the races in the players guide, but none of them call to me, so since Volo's is allowed lets try something oddball.

Triton Sorcerer (Draconic/Silver)

Voleryn Istithath:

Voleryn stands a little under 5 feet tall, slight of build, with a pale blue-white skin patterned with a whorl and swirling pattern and blue hair. Her body bears the marks of adaption to underwater environments, with webbing between her fingers, lenghtened webbed toes and slight fins on her arms and legs. Her eyes are just slightly oversized for a human, paired with large pupils, the slim line of her iris is pale grey colour.
She holds herself with the arrogance of her people, and while unfailingly polite gives the impression she is giving orders when she speaks with others.

Voleryn grew up deep underwater, with little contact with the outside world she doesn't know where abouts her homeland is compared with surface kingdoms. Her people's undersea kingdom was prosperous, so she had little needs, though was expected to train and study to battle the eternal threat of the Sahuagin and their allies.

While she pays her respect to the gods of her people, she pays them little thought.

Voleryn has been taught and bred to believe that the Triton are superior to other species, and views herself as having a duty to protect the lesser races from the harm inflicted by evil. This leads extended contact with her to often be grating, particularly when interacting with other strong willed people.

Voleryn trained as part of a team, and understands team-roles in a combat situation. While she will stand alone when she needs to, she prefers teamwork.

Voleryn identifies with shimmering shoals of silvery fish, whatever their specific species. She has lived in and amongst water all her life and is most intimately familiar with it's tides and moods. She knows little of fire, and is wary of it.

Voleryn has trained and seen horrors from the depths up close, the abominations of the Sahuagin, the Aboleth and the elemental are familiar sights to her (at least from a distance), however she finds fire disconcerting, it's painful touch worse than the chilled depths of the ocean.

Protect the weak, whatever situation she finds herself in. Uphold the reputation of her people.

Voleryn keeps secret that she is relieved to be away from her people, among them she would be just another triton, in the outside world she stands apart and can shine brighter.

Voleryn nearly died as a child, her parents took her to a Dragon who both healed her and awakened her magical ability. Her parents never told her of this.

Victory by dark means is no victory at all, though there is no dishonour in playing to your strengths.

I have read the terms and conditions

I assume Class as Core Only that refers to all the UA archetypes etc as well, so no 'Storm Sorcery' from UA/SCAG? No problem if not, just checking.

Also using the Soldier background, can I swap Land Vehicles for Water Vehicles, though water vehicles in her case is probably more undersea chariots pulled by dolphins, than traditional ships and boats...

Well every space adventure needs a scoundrel. I'm thinking a rogue, possibly a thief for the whole treasure hunter angle. Let me take a look at the player's guide.

Gm Only:

I have tead the terms and conditions.

Wow, I really dig the Zvarr. Definitely going with that. But I'm now leaning toward an arcane trickster. I'll be chaotic neutral. So he's in it for the paycheck, the fun, and for his crew.

@spinningdice - That's correct.

Thank you all for the interest. I'm hoping to have my buddy post his character here soon.

Everyone loves Han Solo. =)

Reishi is my buddy, in case any of you have any questions for him.

Sovereign Court

Shameless(mostly) bump.

Is it okay if I have played a bit of the beginning of this adventure in the past?

Sovereign Court

Aye, I don't mind.

Cool. When you say core classes that means core rulebook only? So no Bladesingers or Purple Dragon Knights from SCAG or the like?

Sovereign Court

Correct.

What would you think of a Warlock who dreamed a terrible dream and made their pact with a Great Old One while unconscious and brought to where they are now? It might seem a bit odd since we are starting at level 2, but the idea is stuck in my head.

Sovereign Court

Fine by me. The party won't be immediately aware of their past, as I recall.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Here is my character Sheet.

Here is my Backstory.

If I'm chosen, I'll create a profile and load this all up.

Also already have an idea, but need some time to further develop it.

"Terms and conditions" are cool and well said.

Here is how my Warlock comes into his powers (warning, I got carried away!):

The Pact Sealed With A Kiss:

"Hello?!" He called out into the surrounding Darkness. An echo that sounded less and less like His own voice was the only reply, Hello hello hello. He shivered despite the lack of any discernable temperature or even stimuli in the Darkness. He found His feet taking one step in front of the other before His brain had caught them and it was only then that He felt some kind of floor beneath His feet. He decided that even if he walked into some terrible trap or unspeakable creature in the Darkness that it would be better then standing still and waiting forever. He continued for a time with no change and for more time past after that before He realized at some point sound had begun to return to Him, here in the Darkness. He noticed His footsteps against what sounded like marble at first, but then the Music drew his attention. It was soft, but grew increasingly louder, as though He was drawing nearer to it. It was a song He had never heard before played by an instrument wholly unknown to Him, and yet it was strangely familiar. He noticed He had begun to run toward the Music and that His steps were now bringing Him upward at an increasing incline. The Music filled Him completely as he reached the Top.

There was a Voice that joined the unknown instrument, and that Voice was the most beautiful sound He had ever heard. With the Voice came the Rain. It rained light. Like a thousand tiny suns falling from unknown heavens hidden in the Darkness. The Rain was warm against His skin. With the Rain came vision. He stood atop a hill covered in blood red flowers, no marble floor to be seen. From the hill the flowers stretched for eternity and a sky of rolling blue and pristine clouds hung overhead. At the center of the hill was a tree, the tree was ancient and gnarled and obviously on its last legs. In a circle around the tree the flowers were a pearly white instead of crimson. At the base of the tree there were two chairs. The Music ceased, yet the owner of the Voice sat there, watching Him. She was striking, inhuman, yet suprahuman. Her features were sharp as if cut from diamond, Her skin as pale as the flowers about her feet, Her flowing dress as crimson as the flowers beyond. It was Her eyes that truly startled Him, they were as blue as the sky above from sclera to pupil. She gestured for Him to join Her and He did so without hesitation. The chair was comfortable and made of a material He could not discern.

"You are fated to die long before you even awake from this dream," She said, an amused smile quirking Her lips.

He swallowed dryly and looked for the words to reply, "Yet you sit here speaking to a man who will soon be dead?"

She laughed and reached out to grasp His hand in Hers. She was cool to the touch. "Fate does not bind one such as I, nor will it bind you much longer."

He looked into those eyes of the sky and considered Her words as though they made perfect sense. "You would offer me a reprieve from my demise?" He asked.

"I offer you not just that my Love. I offer you freedom and the power to keep it." She pulled his hand to her lips and kissed it gently. Her touch was cool, but her lips were as hot as the desert sun. "You were mine once and I lost you, but never again."

He knew what She said defied all reason. He was no consort of this ancient creature, and he certainly had not lived long enough to have forgotten one such as Her, yet Her words fell on His ears with a ring of truth. "Who are..." He dared not ask the question and instead asked another that came from His lips before He could reel it back, "Who am I?"

"You were The Lost One, but I have found you my Love." She climbed to Her feet and pulled Him with Her. "Let us make a Pact under the Lantern Tree. A kiss for Freedom."

He looked up and found the tree's branches were filled with glowing lanterns of an endless number. How had He not seen them before? He turned back to Her. He pulled her toward him and their lips met hungrily. In that singular moment his mind expanded with infinite possibilites, He thought things beyond all that He had ever known.

Slowly His mind contracted again, yet it seemed to stop well before where it used to rest. He was different now. She let Him go and the colours started to fall away into the Darkness again. Through the Darkness Her last words echoed, "Stand tall my Love. Stand tall and shake the Heavens."

She was gone, yet He could feel Her with Him. He always would now. He closed His eyes and he dreamt of that kiss for what felt like a thousand years. Until...

He awoke to the sensation of something damp and viscous covering His face and body.

BTW, I have read the terms and conditions
