Climbing back down the ladder after grabbing the shortsword, Biggun gave the weapon to Ravboom and said, "So you no throw rocks like little gobbie kiddie."

Halting in his tracks, Relas looks at the strangely-dressed goblin and then back to Globlob, a questioning look in his eyes. He also focuses on his shared connection with Palo, transmitting his thoughts back to her.

"We're at the old temple; it looks like all that's inside are burnt goblin skeletons and maybe something shiny. But there's another goblin trying to sneak around out here...looks like he's got a silly hat and some sort necklace that's making a lot of noise. He's not seen us yet. What should we do?"

Eidolon Link for the win!

Catching Ravboom's huffiness, Palo gives him an exasperated look. "Well did you have a better idea? And 'we should turn around and leave' isn't going to cut it! If I'm stuck here, then so are you," she says as she crosses her arms over her chest.

After a minute or two pass, the human suddenly cocks her head to one side as if listening to something. Her brow furrows slightly in confusion before she looks up at the others. "Okay, so Relas says it looks like there's maybe something 'shiny' inside the old lo-er, temple, along with a whole lot of burnt goblin skeletons." She then shakes her head as she continues, "And something about another goblin wearing a silly hat and a loud necklace creeping around out there and doing a poor job of it?"

Solie's right, I've already spent way too much time with goblins if I'm starting to talk like them...

"Apparently they've not been spotted yet. Shall we go say hello or see if Glob and Relas can get the drop on him?"

Although Palo is probably almost always going to suggest a more tactical approach to things unless she's really pissed, please feel free to ruin it with loud goblin shenanigans as appropriate. The contrast is fun that way :3

Jingling, rattling and tinkling with its ridiculous hat and necklace, the goblin continues to ‘sneak’ towards the centre of the village… it seems, from the direction it is taking, to be headed towards the ‘sheriffs’ building.

Actions? So far I am assuming that Relas and Globlob are in a position to see the goblin whilst the others, less stealthy, are hanging back towards the store.

"...What that silly not sneaky goblin doing trying to sneak about?"

Ravboom's pebble makes a loud 'crack' as it hits a boulder off to one side of the goblin... Shrieking in surprise, it goes prone and pulls the hat down over its eyes...

Globlob exchanges a look with Relas and gives a thoroughly confused shrug before he slinks over to the shiny pile of bones. The others can handle one funny-dressed goblin, he surmises, while he and the big, talking cat do all the heavy lifting. Which naturally involves digging through the bones of his fallen comrades, not that he minds in the least. Shiny stuff is more important!

Relas also jumps with surprise at the unexpected sound, then quickly realizes that it's most likely Rav's handiwork...

Big and Solie are a lot noisier than that!

Seeing that Globlob is apparently continuing on into the old temple, the eidolon decides that he'd better tag along too, to make sure the goblin didn't get into too much trouble.

"Um, Glob and I are going ahead into the temple; you guys can handle Silly Hat right?"

As he continues on into the temple, he keeps his eyes open for anything dangerous or unusual.

Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

Relas is going to follow after Glob, hehe.

"Relas! That's not-okay, fine. Just try to keep him from breaking anything or blowing anything up, okay?"

Peeking outside, it's not hard to spot the bizarrely dressed goblin, currently lying flat on his face in the mud and apparently trembling with fear.

Well, at least this one doesn't seem crazy - yet. And if he's that skittish then I don't think he'll be any threat.

"Psst! Hey, goblin! What are you doing out there? It's not safe!" she hisses, loud enough for him to hear though she doesn't yet leave the relative safety of the shop.

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21

Trembling, the goblin peeks out from beneath its hat... to see a Longshanks in the village - shrieking in panic, it hops up and runs, as fast as its small legs will allow, towards the sheriffs building...

********

Meanwhile, prioritising shiney baubles over talking with the goblin, Globlob moves into the burnt out wreckage of the temple - his eyes fixated upon possible treasure!!!

Heaps of scorched bone lie among the ash and debris of this burned-out temple where statues carved with runes of some form have similarly fallen into ruin, pulled down by ropes and half-melted chains. All around is devastation and, as Globlob and Relas pick their way through the wreckage, carrion birds take flight - cawing indignantly as they find higher perches in the ruins...

...and then three skeletons - clustered together at the rear of the wreckage and burnt almost to ash in places, jerkily rise to a standing position and spontaneously ignite in blue flame. As one, they noiselessly scream to the heavens above and start shuffling towards their living prey...

There is a map for this encounter - to be uploaded later today - in the meantime, it will take a full round for anyone other than Relas and Globlob to get to the temple / enter combat... The ruined walls of the temple provide too much cover for long range combat to be effective.

I'm assuming the temple is burnt out enough that we can at least see that something is happening inside?

"No no no, we want to talk to you, don't run!" Palo calls out in frustration as the sartorially-challenged goblin shrieks and bolts for the sheriff's office. "Should've known better," she grumbles to the others. "Do one of you want to try talking to him? He might actually listen to-" The rest of her thought is cut off at the sight of...something...happening over inside the ruined temple.

"Great...I've got a bad feeling about this..." she sighs, readying her crossbow and heading towards the ruckus.

"Uh oh...we've got trouble Palo!"

If it were just him by himself, he would've simply retreated and rejoined with the others outside. But it's easy to see that the skeletons are moving awfully fast and will gain ground on Globlob before he'll have a chance to get away. Figuring that Palo would be rather put out if he let the singing goblin get flattened, Relas moves forward and attempts to get their attention by snapping at the first one that approaches.

"Now we've done it!" he groans as his teeth catch only air.

The skeletons getting to their feet, and the reaction of Relas and Globlob to the appearance of the undead, can easily be seem from where Palomia, Solie, Ravboom and Biggun are... Will upload a map tomorrow but think we're cool to just imagine it out to begin with.

"Relas, what in the-WHOA!" As Palomia manages to reach what amounts to an entrance to the building, she skids to a stop at the sight of the blue-flame skeletons. Relas withdraws from Skeleton #2 and moves to stand with Solie and Palomia.

Not sure if Glob's adjacent to the skeletons or not. If so, full withdraw and sing next round. If not, sing and run like the wind, Bullseye!

With Relas and Globlob making a tactical retreat towards a huge gap in the temple’s walls… and the rest of the explorers picking their way across rubble to see the skeletal infernos, the party manage to put space between themselves and the undead. Lurching and creaking, the skeletons march inexorably towards the living…

Everyone may take their turn now – Solie can also retcon an action for the previous round if she wishes.

Stupid question, but what are the big red circles for 1, 2, and 3 signifying?

With his "tactical retreat" all finished, Globlob takes one more step back just in case and starts belting out some more words in Goblin. Naturally, all of his friends feel all sorts of bolstered by the song, though only about half of them can understand it.

"Bony men, big and scary!

As the fiery skeletons draw closer, Palomia raises her crossbow and fires a shot at the one approaching from the southwest corner of the temple before falling back behind the better-armored Biggun. Even with Globlob's song bolstering their hearts, the summoner is clearly unnerved by the appearance of the skeletons and her bolt misses the target by a mile.

Shaking his head violently as his big, bat ears flap against the sides of his skull helmet, he blinks away the soot from his eyes. "Wow! Dat hot. Wait, da shiny!"

And once more, he plunges back into the church to try to claim that shiny thing he had been searching for before the skeletons appeared. Preferably before Biggun gets to it.

"OW! Hot hot hot!" Relas hisses, even as both he and Globlob manages to dodge the worst of both skeleton-explosions. As his scouting friend immediately heads further into the temple once more, he turns and gives the others a slightly nervous look.

"Um, sorry about that...we thought they were all just bones, like dead-dead bones, not mostly-dead bones..."

"Well, next time be more careful and wait for the rest of us if you see anything that looks suspicious. Though I guess it would've been hard for anyone to tell the difference without setting them off," Palo replies grudgingly. "Anyway, let's check out the rest of this place...and then maybe Rav or Glob can get that other goblin to come out and talk to us."

Her crossbow at the ready, Palomia moves further into the temple as she looks for anything else that seems odd or suspicious.

Solie giggles and claps as more explosions of death go off. Never mind the bone shrapnel, this was far too good to miss!

"Gobins around here make skeletons?" Solie asked Ravboom curiously as though he ought to have the answer. She'd never seen any do as such back where she came from.

The flames from the defeated skeletons burn for mere seconds after the undead have been destroyed… and, almost as quickly as the violence had flared, a stillness returns to the burnt out temple… a stillness immediately broken by an excitable Globlob rushing past Biggun to get to the ‘shiny’ that he originally spotted in the rubble… remarkably undamaged by the destruction of the temple (whenever that occurred) or by the fires which appear to have ravaged the place, Globlob pulls a cleric’s ceremonial medallion from between two large blocks of stone.

…a small yet intricately decorated symbol of a hammer – it has a loop in it that would allow it to be worn as a medallion.

Any attempt to detect magic will determine that it is nothing more than a mundane, if valuable item (worth approx. 400gp).

Looking around in the temple, there is nothing else of value…

…the goblin that was running towards the “sheriff’s building”? it is no longer out in the open…

I'll assume we do; if Solie didn't then Palo certainly would, hehe. I'm also assuming that the stairs on the map go nowhere since the top level probably collapsed some time ago?

"I'm surprised the heat didn't melt that into a shapeless blob," Palo frowns after having as close a look at the medallion as Glob will allow. "Then again, it is...or was...a holy symbol I'd guess. At least wandering over here hasn't been a total loss."

With her hands on her hips, she turns her gaze back in the direction of the Sheriff's Office. "At some point we should probably try talking to that goblin with the ridiculous hat even though I know by now he's probably got the place boarded up again. This time I'll let someone else do the talking."

Sorry about disappearing on you all like that, been really busy this past week and thought I informed you. I should be back to normal now, so no more disappearances like this again.

Biggun grunted as a large spark landed on his nose. Grumbling and swatting at the flame, and accidentally poking himself in the eye with his thumb, he looked around as the last of the fiery bones were destroyed. Looking over at Solie, he said, "Too bad we not save one, could be cool for when Sun comes down."

Biggun – I already rolled that Reflex Save for you... Also, Welcome Back :)

Palomia – yeah, stairs down lead to nothing – that’s what you get for looking online for maps!!! Random staircases…

Going to assume that you folks are investigating the Goblin with the mad hat…

Palomia was right, the goblin has indeed shut the door to the Sheriff’s Building… and, a quick shove confirms it, has wedged something against it, ”Go away… I’m not hurting no-ones… just leave me be… just leave me be…, the voice tails away…

"Aw, we just wanted to talk," Relas calls through the blocked door. "We came here looking for a fallen star but this place was already messed up when we got here! You're one of the few not-so-crazy anythings we've seen...maybe we can help each other somehow?"

"Real convincing Relas," Palo whispers dryly. "If I were him that'd sure make me want to open the door in a hurry."

Turning back towards the door, she coughs as she raises her voice slightly. "Okay look, if you don't trust me then go peek out one of the windows and you'll see a few of your kind out here too - and we've not killed each other (yet) so we're obviously not sick or crazy. If you don't want to talk to me or the big cat, then will you at least talk to one of the goblins out here with us?"
