"Biggun like place, look nice," Biggun said with a nod. Walking through the hole in the wall, he glanced around the area with an appraising eye, for him anyway. Nearing the fireplace, he poked his head up to see if he could spot anything.

As Ravboom and then Biggun approach the manor, Relas pads along quietly behind them, hesitantly entering a few paces into the ruined hall before stopping to have a look around. "Wow...this place must really have been something back in the day!" he marvels.

Upon confirming that it seems safe (for the moment), he looks back to Palomia and nods for her to approach as she sees fit.

Taking notice of Relas' nod Palomia carefully approaches the hole into the manor house, pausing next to Ravboom as she nervously looks up at the ceiling. "Looks worse than I thought up close," she mutters. "We'll be lucky if we don't wind up flattened by falling rubble."

How sturdy does the ceiling look?


Palomia - the ceiling seems, whilst completely collapsed or missing in places, quite sturdy.

The ruined great hall, seemingly devoid of life, is explored by Biggun, Ravboom and the others – Biggun, believing that the fireplace may hold some secrets, examines the large edifice - and is disappointed to discover little more than soot and twigs. With no sign of 'Vuelib' - whatever it may be – the group start a more detailed exploration of the manor; heading towards one of the western doors...

...again, the tree creaks and moans... and, seemingly from nowhere, a heavy fist swings at the group. The upper trunk of the 'tree' pulls its vine-covered branch back and, with a snarl, unfurls itself into the shape of a gangly humanoid... it's features unmistakably troll-like.

Knowledge (local) DC13:
Moss trolls not only hunt from the trees, but also live, breed, and hide their treasure among the branches. Their weirdly long arms allow them to attack foes on the ground without ever needing to set foot on the earth themselves. Moss Trolls, inextricably linked to the trees in which they dwell, are petrified of fire.

Palomia yelps in surprise as a long arm seems to swing out of nowhere and slams into Biggun. "Wha...oh, fantastic!" she groans as the thing in the tree shows itself. "No idea what this is, but I'd stay away from those teeth if I were you!" she calls to the others.

Pointing her finger at the creature, she speaks a few words. "Saib koj kauj ruam!"

Taking a 5 foot step to the side and casting Grease on the area the thing is standing in; DC 14 Reflex.

Relas carefully edges forward, hoping to take advantage of any distractions that Palo's magic might have on the creature as he attempts to take a bite out of it.

Globlob scowls across at the large mossy beast and snorts his disgust at the sight of it. It was certainly large and green, a bit like Biggun, but clearly not of the subservient mind. Too bad. It would've made a good friend and a great steed. Taking a deep breath, the warchanter gets set to belt out a rousing song!

"Big and fuzzy, stinky, green!"
Careful, dat mossy thing is mean;"
He no sandwich, salad, fish."
But we gon' turn him into squish!"

Grunting in pain, Biggun none-the-less stood his ground and, when he recovered, charged at the wanna-be Whomping Willow with chain swinging in hand. "You no hit Biggun, Biggun hit you!" he cried out.


Ravboom’s gun makes an impressive noise however the damage to the moss-covered troll is, in truth, insignificant…. it barely notices the injury as it moves around in its tree. Relas bites at the troll yet it is curiously agile and moves out of the way easily… and when Palomia tries to slow it down by making the branches and trunk of its arboreal home slick with oil, it manages to cling on…

…Biggun is less prone to such tactical choices and runs in with his chain swinging… with a crashing thud, the metal wraps around the creature’s arm – it shrieks in pain and anger… and retaliates…

Biggun grinned at the wound he inflicted, but his exaltation was dashed the moment he saw the wound start closing. "What?!" he shrieked in rage. "You no heal wound from Biggun! Wound from Biggun kill you!!" Unfortunately, in his enraged state, his lack of concentration caused his attack to go wide, somehow completely missing the large troll.

"Closing up?" Palomia blinks, then her eyes suddenly flare with understanding. "Argh! Where's Solie when you really need her!?" she snarls as she points a finger at the creature and sends a small orb of acid whizzing towards it.

Yep, Globlob's still giving a +1 to Attack and Damage for a few levels.

As he lets his song linger in the air, the warchanter snatches up his bow and flicks an arrow out at the troll. "Gotta hit harder den! Rav, you make big fire! Dey scare of fire! Make him run, run, run!" Unfortunately, his focus on yelling out orders makes his shot go very much wide.

Biggun, unbalanced in more ways than one, can't quite get his chain to connect with the troll for a second time... fortunately, Ravboom, Relas and Palomia all manage to hurt the troll... less fortuitously, Globlob's arrow misses the mark - nearly striking Relas as it goes awry...

I find it highly ironic that I become unconscious on post 666.

Biggun, taken by surprise by the large creature's bite, quickly crumbled on the ground. Fortunately, for him anyway, the wounds were quick to close. Unfortunately, the sudden shock of pain was enough to knock him out, scenes of wounded dogs and dead horses dancing in his head.

I think retrieving a stored item is a move action, so two move actions to dig the stuff out of her pack. Next round will be a full-round action to light the torch...

Ravboom grins maniacly. "Globlob toss gift to troll.." Ravboom puts his gun in his teeth, and digs in his pack, taking out a small keg the size of Globlob's head. He holds it up on one hand while retrieving the gun into his other hand. "Then Ravboom show Troll what present for... Palo, Relas, get dumbhead away from troll, before gift deliver..."


As Biggun takes an ill-timed slumber, Relas continues to bite at the troll… despite attacking ferociously, the troll is injured only once…

…and, when it manages to hang on to the slick branches of its tree… it retaliates against Palomia’s companion – a horrific dervish of teeth and claws…

Yes, let's go with the life-link thing!

Upon seeing the troll-thing tear into Relas, Palomia cries out and opens a channel between her life force and his, willing some of her vitality into the eidolon to keep him grounded to the Material Plane. Miraculously, a few of the wounds seem to heal almost instantly as Palo looks more drained and haggard in return.

She'll transfer 5 HP from herself to Relas as a free/immediate action; this should put him at 1 HP and her at 8.

"Hang on, hang on!" she snarls desperately as she sets to work lighting the torch...

Full-round action to light the torch with her flint & steel!

Relas yowls with pain as the troll opens up horrific wounds on his body, but almost immediately there's a familiar feeling of warmth as Palo channels some of her life energy into him.

"Urgh...hurry guys, I can't take much more..." he calls weakly as he hunkers down into a defensive position and backs away.

Total defense; +4 to AC until the end of the round and a 5 foot step back.

Dutifully, Globlob drops his bow in favor of snatching up the keg in both hands. He hefts it over his head and puffs out his cheeks with the effort before hurling it toward the troll. "Dis better work, Rav!"

Move action: take keg. Standard: throw keg at the space beside the troll. As far away from Relas as possible. Should be an AC 5, since it's just a square, but non-proficiency penalties will make that interesting.

Not sure if he can guage the radius well or not with that roll. Oh well, will try to check the radius to put it where it does the most damage to the troll while minimizing the damage to Reles. Just a note, Reles can never go into negative HP. If he hits 0, he vanishes, so the share life force has to kick in at 1 HP and keep him there or he's gone. Which it can do, so no issues. Just commenting for future.

BOOM!: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27

"BIGGA BADA BOOM!" Ravboom cries out as he follows the arc of the barrel and puts a flaming hot lead slug through the gunpowder keg at the point he thinks will do the most damage to the troll and the least to Reles, etc.


Ravboom - thanks for heads up on Summoner / Eidolon... First time I've had a summoner in one of my games so expect the occasional wrinkle! Side question... Damage from powder keg?

Nothing official, but James Jacobs mentioned that they priced a keg as if it were a one use casting of fireball. Which would make it about 5d6 Explosion. Unlike a real fireball spell though, I'd expect the damage to drop off after 10 ft or so, as that's how actual kegs of gunpowder work, lots of damage up front, drop off every 5ft or so.


Sounds like a sensible approach… going to go with 5d6 at point of detonation, 3d6 at 10 feet and 1d6 at 20 feet…

Globlob, trying to reduce the inevitable damage to Relas… and to the unconscious Biggun… rolls the powder keg towards the tree – and the troll inhabitant of that tree…

…and then, levelling the BoomRav, Ravboom squeezes the trigger – the powder keg detonates with a huge explosion!!! The tree, the troll and everything around it suddenly disappears in a rapidly growing bloom of orange flame…

5d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 3, 1, 6) = 20 damage to Moss Troll

3d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 2) = 4 damage to Biggun and Relas

GM Only:
Moss Troll = -5/30HP – no regeneration due to fire

…and then, announced by creaking and splintering, the tree comes crashing down – still aflame, and with the troll falling from it, it fortuitously topples away from the group… the troll, flames licking across the plant matter on its back, lies still…

Combat Over

…but the victory has not been without cost – in the explosion, Relas has been whipped back to his home plane… and Biggun, pierced with that many splinters that he looks like a porcupine, is once more bleeding heavily…

Relas dropped below zero HP… and Biggun is now at -5HP, Unconscious and Dying, he needs to make a DC10 Constitution Save (with a -5 penalty) to Stabilise.

I could have gone with Reflex Saves for half damage… but Rule of Cool says otherwise…

Yeah, Palo will soak one more time since she can further patch him up on her own now that combat is over. She'll soak 4 HP so that keeps Relas at 1 HP and drops her to 4.

Palo shrieks as the tree, troll, and everything else in the immediate vicinity is engulfed in a ball of fire that sends splinters and bits of debris flying. Once more, she channels some of her vitality into Relas to keep him tethered to the Material, though she's beginning to look pretty weak herself...

"Argh..." she groans as she makes her way over to Biggun and attempts to stop his bleeding, "if we run into another one of those, I'm beating feet back down the road..."

Unfortunately, she's not quite able to get the bleeding stopped. "Hey, one of you two a medic? He's bleeding pretty badly here!"

Thoroughly exhausted from first being shredded by the troll and then blown up by Ravboom, Relas simply plops down on the ground where he is. "Don't mind me...just need to rest for a minute..."

Not having any skills with healing or curing, just blowing things up really good, Rav wanders over to the tree and troll. "Burned wood!" He says happily, then starts looking over the rest of the area. A place like this would be perfect for bats, and there's likely piles of guano around for salt peter/nitre to have formed.

Biggun, despite the severity of his wounds, seems stable for now...

How are you folks fixed up for healing? Biggun's in a bad way and Palo / Relas have had better days...

"Oh...nevermind, looks like the bleeding has stopped," Palo calls out upon reexamining the goblin. Slowly, she gets to her feet and moves over to Relas. "Good job," she says, giving the eidolon an affectionate pat on the flank. "Let me see if I can patch you up a little."

Muttering some arcane words, she passes her hands over the eidolon and some of his wounds seem to mend and close.

"There...that should hold you for awhile longer." She glances towards Biggun and then down at herself. "Still took a hell of a beating there. Hey Glob, do you have any healing magic left?"

"Yeah, yeah, yeah. C'mere, longshanks, you sit next to sleepy goblin," Globlob suggests as he gestures toward Biggun's prone form, wandering that way. Despite all of the insanity and the recent explosion, or perhaps because of it, a bright smile splits his lips. In the shadowy ruined manor, his teeth gleam dimly as he reaches out to prod Biggun with one finger.

Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9

He then reaches over to do the same to Palomia in the nearest body part, regardless of how improper that might be. He is a goblin, after all, as no one lacks an understanding of personal space like the small green beings.

With a frown at the curious lack of success with the previous poke, he repeats the process on her again.

Biggun, the moment he becomes conscious, jumped up before rushing to the downed troll and biting down on one of the non-flaming body parts. "You not kill Biggun!!" he screamed through a mouth of wood.

"Um, wow...okay..." Palo gapes at Biggun as he leaps to his feet and begins gnawing on one of the less-crispy parts of the troll. "Hey! I'm glad you're okay but this isn't the time to be having a sna-eep!" She squeals and jumps as Globlob jabs her right in the bosom as he works his healing magic.

"You're lucky you're useful..." she grumbles as nearly all of her wounds knit together.

Rising a bit unsteadily to his feet, Relas stretches and then beams at his summoner. "Aw, thanks Palo! I'm just glad no one got eaten by that thing."

He gives the raging Biggun an appraising look. "Looks like some of us are still a little worse for the wear though...we'll need to be really careful if we want to keep poking around."

Though Relas is better and Palo is okay, Biggun is still pretty hurt and Glob is out of spells (not sure on performance rounds). Do we want to risk looking around a little more or try to hole up and rest?

Spitting out the remains still in his mouth, Biggun looked over at the others giving him strange looks. "What? Stupid make Biggun mad," he said simply before calmly walking over to his fallen things and gathering them up. "So, what we do now? Star not here, either. And not find Solie."


Ravboom - as expected, in and around the ruins, there is plenty of guano...

As the small flames from the tree, and the inhabitant of said tree, slowly die away, a silence returns to the ruined manor... there are two doors to the west of the 'main hall' - as far as can be heard, there are no sounds coming from behind either of the doors...

"Too bloody go hunting now, doubt anything got past troll recently. Rest and replenish supplies." Ravboom begins using a stick to poke the piles of guanno, looking for nitre deposits. He digs those out and into a sack. He also gathers up the scortched wood and burned troll bits. "Anyone know what demon stone look like?" He asks, digging a small bit of yellow stone out of his pouch. "Need some of this, swamps good place for demon stone. Smell like rotten eggs."

"What supplies?" Palomia looks around at the crumbled room. "Aside from whatever you can find in the swamp out there, I doubt there's much in the way of supplies to be had. But I do think you're right, resting up a bit would be a good idea."

She looks towards the two unopened doors. "If we want to risk resting in here where there's at least a roof over our heads, it'd probably be a good idea to at least see where those other two doors lead. I'd rather not have something slither through and eat one of us in the night."

Biggun grunted as he scratched his backside. He was in a lot of pain, though he hid it well. He had to keep up his tough reputation, after all! Nodding to himself, he looked over at Palo and said, "Biggun open door, check for big nasty." With that, he wandered over to the south-western door and gave it a mighty kick.

Relas winces as Biggun wanders over to one of the doors and gives it a good kick. "Well, it'll probably be okay...if there's anything else hiding down here it would've come out while we were fighting the big thing or right after...right?"


Fortunately for the somewhat beaten up group, Biggun's enthusiasm to search the Manor does not result in anything untoward... at least not yet!!! The room towards the south western corner of the manor proves to be the remnants of a kitchen. Empty except for a few scattered bits of rubble and a large fireplace in the southwest corner, the room shows no sign of having been occupied in recent years. Broken windows in the walls, as well as a handful of small cracks in the mortar, emit a chill breeze, creating an eerie whistle. A single wooden door leads to the north...

"A kitchen...and a fireplace that doesn't look like it's quite as broken," Palo observes, looking rather relieved that nothing came leaping out when Biggun kicked the door open. "Maybe we can have a proper fire at least, if we stay here."

She glances towards the northern door. "Looks like that room connects to the big main room too." With a sigh, she nods at Biggun and the others. "May as well open it up too and see what we find."

Despite all the noise, she carefully makes her way to the door (from the kitchen side) and stands behind it. She listens for a moment to determine that there's nothing waiting on the other side...

Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11

And then nods at the others to be ready before pulling the door open with a flourish!

As Relas pads into position in front of the door, he gives Palomia a skeptical look. "Um Palo, maybe you should let the...er nevermind..." he mumbles as she flings the door open.

Biggun grinned as the human bravely faced the dangers of an unopened door. "Now you think like proper goblin!" he exclaimed as he joined her at the now-opened door. "No let hidden things scare you! Face them with big grin!" Giving her a hefty pat on the shoulder, he, too, glanced through the opening.
