My amazing map is on slide 1. The creatures are on slide 2. Yes, Layaali has the chance to cast bless.
From the depths of the canyon, the beating thrum of leathery wings heralds the arrival of not just one, but three chalk-coloured winged demon-like creatures. They hover in mid-air before launching themselves at you all!
ROUND 1!
The lead gargoyle flies straight at Drael as he steps in front of his gnome comrades, slashing with a clawed hand.
Melee Attack vs Drael: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 201d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6 HIT! 6pts of slashing dmg, Drael!
The gargoyle scores first blood as he gouges the bloodrager.
Layaali may act!
| Layaali Twice-Born |
Layaali prays to Vildeis and reaches out a hand to the yellow creature. "Flee now and you will yet live to see another sun!" she exclaims loudly. The bones inside the yellow creature's body grind and shake inside their body. She pushes back, and the creature is shoved back 5 feet, dragged by his own bones. "This is your only warning!"
Boneshaker Damage: 5d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 3, 6, 5) = 23 And he's moves 5 feet back. The creature gets a DC 16 Fortitude save for half damage and to prevent the movement (which is why I didn't move the creature on the map).
| Rab-rab Bunnis |
5 foot step, then wind blast.
attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
damage: 3d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 6, 3) + 6 = 21
| Layaali Twice-Born |
Rab-rab didn't realize it wasn't her turn. She says sorry! And she'll do that when she can (she also forgot bless, so when she does next blast that's +1 higher). We moved her back to the space she started in.

|
Fortitude Save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
The lead gargoyle growls and twists in the air, avoiding the forced movement from Layaali. He growls behind him in the Common tongue.
"Prey that fights back! This will be fun, my brethren!"
In response, the two remaining creatures dash forward, their lead horns aimed at Layaali and Razif, respectively.
Melee Attack vs Layaali, Charge: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 7 + 2 = 221d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 HIT! 3pts of piercing dmg, Layaali!
Melee Attacks vs Razif, Charge: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 7 + 2 = 101d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 MISS!
The oracle takes a painful graze while the creature targeting Razif misses the ranger completely! In response, Rab-rab steps back and blasts the closest foe with a pneumatic pummelling!
Min, Drael, and Razif may all act!
| Drael Kapernos |
Drael begins to glow with arcane fury, phasing in and out of sight as he raises his axe and brings it down on the gargoyle attacking him. Activating blur via bloodrage.
Attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28
Damage: 1d12 + 14 ⇒ (3) + 14 = 17
| Razif al-Akkuya |
Razif takes a step back from the gargoyle and shoots!
Deadly Aim, Point Blank Shot.
Attack: 1d20 + 7 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (18) + 7 + 1 - 2 = 24
Damage: 1d8 + 1 + 1 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 1 + 1 + 4 = 12
"You should listen to my friend and leave us be!"
GM Dinketry
|
GM rolls: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 221d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Both Drael and Razif notice something: the light is failing as dusk rapidly takes hold.
We will be moving into low-light conditions at the start of next round (i.e. without low light vision or a light source, the creatures will have 20% concealment). It is still Min's turn!
| Layaali Twice-Born |
Min will post this morning. Sorry for delay.
| Min Bunnisbeldar |
knoledge local: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
AHhhhh Min shout's!
"Santy rabbanty!" Yell's Min as he cast's color spray at the green monster! (Dc 14)
GM Dinketry
|
Min, it's a Knowledge Nature, not Local check, and with your Nature bonus and your roll, you'd be able to identify these things as part of a hunting pack of gargoyles.
Will Save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23 SUCCESS!
Min cries out as he recognises the chalk-coloured creatures as some variant form of gargoyle. He then lets fly a burst of rainbow-coloured energy that deflects harmlessly off the creature.
The lead gargoyle unleashes a flurry of attacks at Drael, all the while maintaining its hovering position!
Melee Attack #1 (Claw), Blur: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 121d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 71d100 ⇒ 3 MISS!
Melee Attack #2 (Claw), Blur: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 101d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 51d100 ⇒ 51 MISS!
Melee Attack #3 (Bite), Blur: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 121d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 51d100 ⇒ 13 MISS!
Melee Attack #4 (Gore), Blur: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 121d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 51d100 ⇒ 82 MISS!
An amazing flurry of ineffective attacks whisk by the bloodrager in an alarming number.
It is Layaali's turn!
| Layaali Twice-Born |
Layaali narrows her eyes at the creature and takes a quick five-foot step back, praying aloud to Vildeis. She reaches her hand out again, this time to the red creature in front of her. The bones inside the red creature's body grind and shake inside their body. She pushes back, and the creature is shoved back 5 feet, dragged by his own bones.
Boneshaker Damage: 5d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 3, 6, 6) = 24 And he's moves 5 feet back. The creature gets a DC 16 Fortitude save for half damage and to prevent the movement (which is why I didn't move the creature on the map). She's hoping to send it back into the space not beside Drael, if she can.
GM Dinketry
|
Fortitude Save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11 FAIL!
Layaali's necromantic spell grabs hold of the threatening gargoyle, and in gruesome fashion, shakes it into pieces! The limbless corpse flops lifelessly onto the lip of the canyon. The gargoyle to the south responds by bringing a curved horn hanging from its waist to its mouth and blowing a droning note!
GM rolls: 2d4 ⇒ (3, 1) = 4
"The hunt is on, brothers! Avenge the fallen and corral our prey!"
He then moves to box in the bloodrager.
Drael, Min, Rab-rab, and Razif all may act! It is low-light at present, but I believe that you are all within the range of Layaali's halo effect, if that is active.
| Drael Kapernos |
Drael steps out from between the two gargoyles, bringing up his axe for another powerful swing at the one trapped between him and the nearby ledge. Yellow outline.
Attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22
Damage: 1d12 + 14 ⇒ (6) + 14 = 20
GM Dinketry
|
Drael's axe cleaves through the head of the gargoyle hovering over the edge, and both the gargoyle's body and head crash heavily into the ledge, then fall off into the canyon below.
Min, Rab-rab, and Razif may act!
| Razif al-Akkuya |
Razif repositions and shoots the other gargoyle, just as Drael finishes off his target.
Attack: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 7 + 1 = 10
Damage: 1d8 + 1 + 1 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 1 + 1 + 4 = 13
Same feats as before!
| Rab-rab Bunnis |
Rab-rab shoots the last gargoyle.
attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
damage: 3d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 3, 4) + 6 = 18
| Min Bunnisbeldar |
It's a hunting pack of gargoyles! Min says as he carefully concentrates on his spell.
Concentration (DC 17): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
Min rubs his hands together. "Nindralius boing-boing!" He shoves his hands out and fires an blast of icy snow and ice all over the place!
Burning Hands to deal cold damage. Only hits the gargoyle.
Cold Damage: 5d4 ⇒ (3, 2, 1, 1, 2) = 9 It gets a DC 14 Reflex for half damage.
GM Dinketry
|
I'm assuming that Concentration check is to avoid an AoO. Nice one, Min.
Reflex Save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20 SUCCESS!
The remaining gargoyle grabs at Min!
This triggers an AoO from Drael.
GM Dinketry
|
Despite the mighty blow from the bloodrager, the lone gargoyle successfully grabs Min and flies off with him!
The gargoyle is at the edge of the canyon lip on the map. The light grey zone represents the fall-away into the canyon wall, where the black represents the sheer chasm (nigh-bottomless, at least to your vision). Min, you are Grabbed. Everyone may act!
| Razif al-Akkuya |
Just so I don't do anything I'll regret, if the gargoyle dies here or Min gets freed up from his grapple, where exactly would he land? Would it be safe, or would he fall into the fall away and roll down into the chasm?
| Layaali Twice-Born |
Min took the ring of feather fall we got as loot a while back, so while it might be hard to retrieve him from wherever he lands, the fall isn't something you need to worry about. Theoretically.
Layaali hurries after the creature raises her hands and shouts, "In the name of Vildeis, I command you! COME HERE!"
Layaali casts command and orders the gargoyle to approach. DC 15 Will negates. On a failure, on its turn, the subject moves toward Layaali as quickly and directly as possible for 1 round. The creature may do nothing but move during its turn, and it provokes attacks of opportunity for this movement as normal.
| Rab-rab Bunnis |
Rab-rab shots at the gargoyle holding Min! "Let my brother GO!"
Rab-rab gathers power, then uses extended range (1 burn) and focused blast (2 burn). Infusion specialization reduces by 1 burn, and gather power reduces by 1 burn, so I take 1 burn.
attack: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 8 + 2 = 20
damage: 3d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 6, 3) + 6 = 19
GM Dinketry
|
Layaali, the command spell allows for a single word, but you can effect your desired outcome with the command word of 'APPROACH', in this instance.
Will Save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11 FAIL!
The aasimar charges forward at the abduction of Min, her pacifist demeanour uncharacteristically breaking as she orders the gargoyle to approach her. Amazingly, the spell works, and the flying hulk circles to return just in time to catch Rab-rab's empowered aerokinetic blast full in the face. The gargoyle crumples - quite dead - and then plummets, releasing Min to reveal his feather fall effect at the canyon's ledge.
Rab-rab, don't forget to reflect one burn point in your stats line.
An echoing horn call, similar to the one blown by the gargoyle attempting to spirit away Min, sounds out across the canyon.
Min, you land just on the ledge. I'll give you a standard action this round, as your move action is going to be taken up by the feather fall effect thrust upon you by your ring. Razif and Drael still may act this round as well!
| Drael Kapernos |
Drael calls out to the others, More gargoyles coming our way, at least 4 of them. Layaali, can you give us better light?
He begins to grow in size, focusing for a moment as arcane power continues to course through him. Casting Enlarge Person on himself.
| Layaali Twice-Born |
Sorry for the confusion. Her talking was just flavour, and I mentioned approach in the ooc. I'll be clearer next time.
"More?" she confirms. She considers moving further back but doesn't want to leave Min exposed alone. "Come here, Min," she urges him. She reactivates her halo. Can't remember if I turned it on or not before.
Also, a reminder to her companions that bless is still active.
| Razif al-Akkuya |
"More coming up? Hm."
Granted a moment's respite, Razif decides to ready himself. He focuses for a moment, and the arrow he's holding catches alight with a soft flame.
Touch of Flame: on!
GM Dinketry
|
I'll assume that Min scampers back to be closer to Layaali.
GM roll: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
With a whoosh of powerful wings, a larger-than-average gargoyle swoops up out of the canyon and heads straight for the largest target!
Melee Attack (Claw) vs Drael, Blur: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 181d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 51d100 ⇒ 21 HIT!
Drael takes a light rake across the arm.
Layaali may act!
| Layaali Twice-Born |
Seeing other creatures approach at the edge of her vision, and trusting Drael to handle himself, Layaali reaches out a clenched fist and pops her fingers open, causing a burst of radiant light to surround the oncoming creatures. "Vildeis, protect us! Show us the light!"
Burst of radiance at the pink and black framed gargoyles approaching. They're blinded for 1d4 ⇒ 4 rounds. If they succeed at a DC 17 Reflex save they're dazzled that duration instead. If they're evil they also take 5d4 ⇒ (1, 4, 3, 2, 4) = 14 damage, regardless of save.
GM Dinketry
|
Reflex Saves: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 211d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
The cloudburst of radiance limns the two gargoyles to the north. They growl and hiss in response, but seems less-than-affected by the brightness, much to Layaali's chagrin as they charge in, horned brows set to gore both Min and her. The remaining gargoyle flies to a strategic flanking position of the enlarged Drael, approaching carefully so as to prevent provoked attacks.
No AoO for Drael.
Melee Attack (Gore) vs Min, Charge, Dazzled: 1d20 + 7 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (14) + 7 + 2 - 1 = 222d4 + 4 ⇒ (1, 1) + 4 = 6 HIT! 6pts of piercing dmg, Min!
Melee Attack (Gore), vs Layaali, Charge, Dazzled: 1d20 + 7 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (12) + 7 + 2 - 1 = 202d4 + 4 ⇒ (1, 1) + 4 = 6 HIT! 6pts of piercing dmg, Layaali!
Melee Attack (Claw) vs Drael, Flanked, Blur: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 7 + 2 = 141d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 51d100 ⇒ 57 MISS!
The two charging gargoyles draw blood from their targets, but Drael's second foe fails to connect!
Drael, Razif, Min, and Rab-rab may all act!
| Razif al-Akkuya |
Razif wastes no time and lets his flaming arrows fly with a speed he's rarely shown, attempting to take down the gargoyles flanking Drael.
Using Rapid Shot to fire twice, one arrow for purple border, one for cyan border.
Attack: 1d20 + 7 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 7 + 1 - 2 = 23
Damage: 1d8 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + 1 + (1) = 3
Attack: 1d20 + 7 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (5) + 7 + 1 - 2 = 11
Damage: 1d8 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (7) + 1 + (2) = 10
The dice are cruel.
| Drael Kapernos |
Drael shifts his bulk to get out from between the two gargoyles, flames begin to flicker up and down the blade of his axe as he swings at the one with its back to the cliff face. Targeting the one with the cyan border, activating Elemental Assault.
Attack: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (1) + 12 = 13
Damage: 2d8 + 1d6 + 10 ⇒ (4, 5) + (2) + 10 = 21
Welp.
GM Dinketry
|
One of Razif's arrows lands, but the other arrow and Drael's flaming axe both fan past their intended targets.
Min and Rab-rab are up!
| Rab-rab Bunnis |
Rab-rab shots the pink gargoyle.
attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
damage: 3d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 6, 5) + 6 = 18
| Min Bunnisbeldar |
Min five footstep's back and casts a spell. Min rubs his hands together. "Nindralius boing-boing!" He shoves his hands out and fires an blast of icy snow and ice all over the place!
Burning Hands to deal cold damage. He hits the pink and black border gargoyles.
Cold Damage: 5d4 ⇒ (3, 4, 4, 4, 1) = 16 It gets a DC 14 Reflex for half damage.
GM Dinketry
|
Reflex Save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 131d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Rab-rab's pneumatic blast sails past its target, but Min's cold spell lands substantial damage.
The gargoyle nearest Drael swoops forward, claws slashing at the enlarged bloodrager from an advantageous position.
Melee Attack (Claw) vs Drael, Flanked, Blur: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 9 + 2 = 261d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 51d100 ⇒ 48 HIT! 5 pts of dmg, Drael!
The larger gargoyle draws blood on Drael and hisses at the ranger.
Layaali may act!
| Layaali Twice-Born |
Layaali takes a quick step back and reaches out a hand to the pink creature, praying aloud to Vildeis. The bones inside the pink creature's body grind and shake inside their body. She pushes back, and the creature is shoved back 5 feet, dragged by his own bones.
Boneshaker Damage: 5d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 1, 1, 3) = 11 And he's moves 5 feet back. The creature gets a DC 16 Fortitude save for half damage and to prevent the movement (which is why I didn't move the creature on the map).
Wow, nice damage there... Haha.
GM Dinketry
|
Fortitude Save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8 FAIL!
With a crunch of bone, Layaali forces one of the gargoyles back, twisting its body in on itself. The creature snarls and then launches itself at Layaali, attempting a trusted gore attack!
Charge Attack (Horn) vs Layaali, Gore, Dazzled: 1d20 + 7 - 1 ⇒ (5) + 7 - 1 = 112d4 + 4 ⇒ (4, 3) + 4 = 11 MISS!
The persistent dazzle effect from Layaali's burst of radiance prevents the vicious attack from landing! Its colleague to the north loops around Min in a circle, flanking the vulnerable sorcerer!
Melee Attack (Claw) vs Min, Flanked, Dazzled: 1d20 + 7 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 7 - 1 + 2 = 281d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7 CRITICAL THREAT!
Critical Confirm: 1d20 + 7 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 7 - 1 + 2 = 231d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6 CRITICAL HIT! 13 pts of dmg, Min!
The gnome takes a gruesome claw to the side of his head, jarring his brain. The last remaining gargoyle launches a frenzy of attacks on the enlarged suli.
Melee Attack #1 (Claw), Flanked, Blur: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 7 + 2 = 201d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 51d100 ⇒ 70 HIT! 5 pts of dmg, Drael!
Melee Attack #2 (Claw), Flanked, Blur: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 7 + 2 = 221d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 51d100 ⇒ 14 MISS!
Melee Attack #3 (Bite), Flanked, Blur: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 7 + 2 = 191d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 61d100 ⇒ 96 HIT! 6 pts of dmg, Drael!
Melee Attack #4 (Horn), Flanked, Blur: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 7 + 2 = 181d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 51d100 ⇒ 38 HIT! 5 pts of dmg, Drael!
The large bloodrager takes a pummelling from the albino gargoyle, its wicked snickering echoing off the nearby canyon walls, almost covering insistent sounds echoing from deeper within. Almost.
Drael, Razif, Min, and Rab-rab may act!
| Drael Kapernos |
Drael brings his axe down with a roar on the gargoyle attempting to flank him, before moving closer to the ones attacking the gnomes. Hitting the one with the cyan border.
Attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21
Damage: 2d8 + 1d6 + 16 ⇒ (7, 3) + (5) + 16 = 31
GM Dinketry
|
The bloodrager scores an enormous chunk out of the southernmost-gargoyle, but the tough thing doesn't drop.
| Razif al-Akkuya |
Razif takes a few steps back and tries to finish the job that Drael lined up for him.
Turning on Deadly Aim for this one
Attack: 1d20 + 7 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 7 + 1 - 2 = 26
Damage: 1d8 + 1 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (5) + 1 + 4 + (3) = 13
Crit Confirm: 1d20 + 7 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (19) + 7 + 1 - 2 = 25
Crit Damage: 1d8 + 1 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (7) + 1 + 4 + (6) = 18
GM Dinketry
|
Razif's arrow chunks into the head of the southernmost gargoyle, still reeling from Drael's mighty blow. The gargoyle flops to the ground, quite dead.
Nice shot, Razif! Min and Rab-rab may act!
| Rab-rab Bunnis |
attack: 1d20 + 8 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 8 + 1 + 1 = 22
damage: 3d6 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (4, 3, 1) + 6 + 1 = 15
Rab-rab shots the pink gargoyle.
| Min Bunnisbeldar |
Ouch! At 0 HP.
Min stumbles five feet back.
GM Dinketry
|
Min, I may be mistaken, but I have you at 2 hp. Regardless, we'll go with that for your turn.
Rab-rab's blast of coiled air fells another one of the gargoyles, its chalky form following inert to the stone cliffside.
Speaking of which, at that moment, a golden-skinned creature emerges from just beneath the lip of the cliff!
Yantuk, you may act! (I've placed you on the map.)
| Yantuk Kutnay |
What is that creature? Could it be a Kobold? But it's scales are golden, the color of a metallic dragon, not a chromatic. It wears a broad hat with a feather stuck in it, and has a rapier that it draws as Yantuk runs at the purple gargoyle, stabbing at it.
Rapier stab!: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (15) + 14 = 29 Critical threat
Critical confirm: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (20) + 14 = 34 Instead of critting, the next person to hit in melee will score a critical hit on this creature
Damage: 1d4 + 13 ⇒ (1) + 13 = 14 5 of that is precision damage, if it's relevant
The little Kobold gets under the Gargoyle's guard, striking a quick blow, but more importantly opening it up for a brutal strike from an ally
"Take that! Hate these things, making me hide in a hole. But more are coming, I, Yantuk know a good place to hide and be safe." The kobold points towards the left side of the map. "Well except for biggun here, might not fit."
