Our Mysterious Benefactor |

We'll leave Corbyn and Ruperta the same: 2 rounds after the cloud disperses!
We'll have Paxs delay and act when he gets back!
The cloud dissipates, leaving a smell of acrid smoke behind, as well as two remaining vampires! Realizing the threat of the cleric's holy spells, they attack her viciously!
Slam Vamp 1: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9 for 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 and 1 negative level!
Slam Vamp 2: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17 for 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 and 1 negative level!
Neither attack hits, as the vampires feel a diminishing effect from the cleric's prayers!

Vamp 2: 19/26 HP
Vamp 3: 19/26 HP
Slumper, Corbyn and Paxs to finish Round 5!

Ruperta of Hetzau |

Just checking... With prayer the vampires have a -1 on attacks and damage, and Ruperta a +1 on AC and ST. If that was not taken into account, the second attack also misses, just barely. Sickened don't affect AC.

Slumper |

Slumper will close in behind a vamp attacking Ruperta to take advantage of flanking.

Slumper wades in, dealing steely death as he goes. His first strike hits, but the vamps dodge his subsequent attacks.
Thrak moves in as well, biting hard into the vamp that Slumper weakened, and causing it to burst into mist and flow away to the north!
Corbyn attempts to defend as best he can, given his retching and hacking!

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

Vamp 1: -1/26 HP
Vamp 2: -1/26 HP
Vamp 3: -1/26 HP
Thrak flies into a vicious flurry of attacks, biting, clawing and stinging the vamp as Slumper bashes and slices and dices the thing. Between the two of them, the vamp explodes into a cloud of mist, which shoots northward under the closed door into the next room. Suddenly the room is quiet, save only for a few last gasps and retches from Ruperta and Corbyn, and everyone has a chance to breathe and look around.
Dozens of crooked glass eyes—hollow and crazed—glare from the heads of malformed and half-carved dolls lining skewed workroom shelves. Rat-gnawed stuffed aurochs, disembodied doll limbs, miniature rolling elephants, unseaworthy wooden ships, and crooked blocks illustrated with deformed or poorly painted animals fill bins and racks about the room. A cracked wooden door leads to the north. In one corner lies the drying corpse of an old bald man amid the wood chips, rusty tools, and oily rags of a scored workbench.
The room is creepy, to say the least.

Paxs |

"A corpse may not be a corpse when blood suckers are involved. Thrak check it out. We should probably search this place and make sure there are not any more and that these are dead."
Percep 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10

Slumper |

Slumper nod's his head at Paxs assessment and moves with Thrak, once Thrak is done looking at the body he will hack the head off and lay it on the corpses chest.
"Dirty business, but better, than coming back as that filth."

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

Thrak investigates the drying corpse, but it appears to be merely a corpse. However Slumper takes the guesswork out as he chops its head off, leaving only a corpse now in two pieces. The northward door is closed, but a small crack can be seen beneath it...

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

Nothing glows magical in this room, though there are some very muted auras coming from the room to the north.

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

As the door to the north is slowly opened, a shop full of misfit toys is revealed. Unbalanced stuffed animals, poorly equipped toy soldiers, and dolls exhibiting myriad accidental deformities stare blankly out of the filth-smeared front window of this toy store showroom. Several heavy-looking kites dangle purple and crimson tails from the ceiling above, and a dollhouse recreating Castle Korvosa’s intimidating towers dominates a table in the room’s center. Festooned with tiny bells, the shop’s entrance stands to the north, across from a counter cluttered with dusty candies and a doorway marked “Private.” There is no sign of the vampires, nor of any mist. The windows of the shop are so coated in greasy dust that they would block the sun coming in well.

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

It is dark right now. But it won't always be... The faint auras seem to be coming from two places: one is a spot behind the counter and the other is from beneath your feet...

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

A glance behind the counter reveals a small safe, discreetly set under the counter. It, too, is covered with dust like everything else. However, something else catches your eye. Perception check!

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

As the trap door is slowly and carefully opened, a four foot deep earthen crawlspace is revealed. Below this room are scatted five coffins, all of simple wooden make. They are all closed and still.

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

Pai's brain produces the following information: vampires will die permanently if exposed to sunlight, or if struck through the heart by a wooden stake, then decapitated and sprinkled with holy water. If they are only staked, they will recover if the stake is removed. There must be decapitation and holy water or sunlight. Also they heal very quickly in their coffins. You remember that you only have about an hour before they are able to move freely again...

![]() |

Ruperta arrives refreshed and recovered.
"That was some nasty cloud Pai! Sorry for the delay... Where are they? "
When she learns of where the vampires are hiding she gets resolve in her face...
"Let's make them rest in peace!"
She steps into the crawlspace and channels positive energy to hurt them once again...
Channel Energy: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 2) = 11
And then she crawls towards the first coffin... Intending to grab it and pull it towards the trapdoor, to get it out of the crawlspace.

Pai Kromnite |

Pai fills the others in on how they might keep these things down. "I don't have any holy water or sunlight. Could one of you snap off some bolts or arrows, and use those as a stake until we can decapitate them and let the sun dissolve them? That might be our best hope on keeping them dead. Last thing we need is a family of vampires running wild while we are trying to keep the city up and running."

Pai Kromnite |

Pai shudders at the grisly work the team is doing. "Boy this whole town has went to hell in a handbasket, hasn't it? Plagues, vampires...maybe the King was smart dying when he did. Or maybe his death started all of this."

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

Stakes are made as all five coffins are dragged into the store to lay on the floor, unmoving. After a few tense looks and steeled breaths, the first coffin's lid is removed to reveal a corpse that appears to be dead, save for the fact that its lips are pulled back to reveal fangs. Inside the coffin is a thin layer of what appears to be rich black soil, clearly unlike the soil one normally sees around Korvosa.
As the party looks to Slumper as the strongest member, he raises the stake and plunges it into the chest of the corpse. Its eyes fly open, revealing panicked bloody irises. The stake sinks in and the creature thrashes a bit, its eyes the only movement left.
This grisly ritual is repeated until all five vampires are staked and the coffins lay open. You recognize all the vampires as the same ones you fought...
What now?

Pai Kromnite |

"Let's unsmoke those windows, and pull these guys into the room, so that when the sun comes up tomorrow, the sun will finish what we have started. Unfortunately, we should babysit them to ensure the deed is done. Who knows, there may be another of them around, or one of their thralls, to pull the stakes out if we leave."

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

With Pai's advice, the windows are fully cleaned, revealing the name "Giotorri's Toys" written across them. As time passes, Corbyn is able to unlock the safe to reveal a small stash: 2 gp, 8 sp, 22 cp, a silver tooth and a small key in the shape of Abadar's holy symbol with a 261 etched on it. It glows with faint divination magic.
As the sun begins to rise, the corpses in the coffins begin to shake and shiver. Within a few moments of sunrise the first ray climbs over the buildings to hit the coffins. At first there is nothing save a high keening scream, then the corpses burst into white hot flames which burn themselves out in a matter of seconds, leaving behind fine white ash and the dirt in the bottom of each coffin. In addition, you find several items hidden in the dirt: three leather pouches holding a total of 300 gp, 15 pp, all of an Ustalavic minting; a brass ring sculpted to look like spider's legs; and a set of bones pipes. The ring and the pipes are both magical.
You wait around, but no one else shows, though shortly after sunrise you hear the sound of a cart heading down the alley, followed by the sounds of grunting and wet heavy things hitting the ground outside the crack in the wall...
