Our Mysterious Benefactor |

Paxs riffles through the gnome's pockets, finding only a used disguise kit and a small key, aside from his studded leather armor and kukri. Peering around the room, Paxs notices a small cabinet behind a nearby desk. The key fits the lock, which opens to reveal six small pouches. Four contain 50 copper pieces, while the other 2 hold 50 silver pieces each.
The noise to the north continues, sounding like someone moving object to block a door.

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

Slumper moves to the door to the north, putting his shoulder against it and pushing. It bends inward, the door creaking against some heavy crates and a bar that has been put against it. Slumper feels it give, but can't quite break the thing open.
On the other side, he hears two voices, one thin and reedy and one deeper and giggling like a maniac. "Shut yer yap, you giggling fool! Get that flail o' yours ready; they're coming in!"
I need another Strength check. You may use Aid Another if you wish. And Jeb, no problem. Next time just shoot me a PM if you're having troubles and we'll NPC you as needed.

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

NPCing Slumper's next Strength check to move things along..
Slumper once more braces his shoulder and sledges into the door! Strength: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24 With Brim's help, he smashes into the creaking, warping wood and shatters it into a thousand shards and blasts into the room. The room beyond is large, fully half the Fishery. It is dominated by a huge bubbling vat of rank, fish-stinking slurry. Stairs go down 15 feet below to the floor, where an officious, perpetually snarling man and a giggling, feral-looking half-orc with a flail stand, waiting for the commotion. Orphans line a platform on the far side of the room, looking cowed and scared, but watching eagerly to see what happens.
"Don't just stand there giggling, you fool, KILL THEM!" screams the officious man, while gesturing wildly with a wand of metal.
Init (Giggles): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
Init (Yargin): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Init:
ROUND 1
17 Jebediah
15 Corbyn
13 Giggles
11 Slumper
9 Yargin
8 Paxs
7 Brim
Jeb and Corbyn, you're up!

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

Jeb's javelin hits the snarling man, who yelps as the projectile slices a cut in his cheek and clips his shoulder.
Corbyn vaults into the room, tumbling to avoid an attack from the half-orc and comes up behind the beastly man.
Giggles, the half-orc, lets out a high-pitched titter at the antics of Corbyn and swings his flail at the man! Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13 Corbyn is too agile, though and the flail smashes into some boxes beside the rogue, spilling foul smelling liquids from smashed jars.
Slumper is up, then Yalgin, the pinched man!

Slumper |

If I can make it to Yalgin I'm going to attempt to engage him
Slumper moves to fight Yalgin swinging his longsword in an arc.
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
1d8 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7 lol maybe you should roll for me more often :P

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

Can't quite get to Yalgin, there's too many obstacles. So I'll have you attack Giggles instead.
Slumper moves to the nearest enemy he can and swings at Giggles the Half-orc. Still tittering like a mad man, the half-orc moves his shield to intercept and deflects Slumper's sword to the side, where it strikes the huge iron cauldron with a CLANG!
Yargin squeals in a pained voice and slips 5 feet away, drawing a small drawstring pouch. He flings it at Corbyn, Ranged Touch: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5, but it flies over his head, hitting the wall and exploding into a mass of gooey tendrils.
Paxs and Brim are up for Round 1, then Jeb and Corbyn's actions in Round 2

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

Paxs calls Thrak to guard him while he casts, and a glob of slippery goo appears on the wand in Yargin's hand. He cries out with a disgusted noise Reflex: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9 and drops the wand, which slides under the washing table behind him!
Brim's quick hands send his rapier slipping toward a weak spot on the half-orc's armor and slips through to punch deeply into the giggling maniac's side. He lets out a giggle that devolves into a wheeze as bloody bubbles escape from his side. He crumples slightly, his side bleeding profusely as the wound leaks.
ROUND 2:
17 Jebediah
15 Corbyn
13 Giggles
11 Slumper
9 Yargin
8 Paxs
7 Brim
Jeb and Corbyn, you're up!

Corbyn Barrett |

I will take a 5 foot adjustment to flank the half-orc with Slumper.
attack 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
damage 1d6 ⇒ 5
sneak attack 1d6 ⇒ 4
crit confirm 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
crit damage 1d6 ⇒ 1
since Jeb goes before me, if the half-orc is slain before my turn, I will attack the wand user (there would be no sneak attack damage added in that case).

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

Corbyn steps around to face the Half-Orc across from Slumper. Corbyn's sword flashes and the half orc is too slow to stop it as it cuts deeply into his neck. He lets out a pained giggle, and anyone looking on has no idea how he still stands!
Jeb, then Giggles and Slumper!

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

Jeb's javelin hits the large metal cauldron and deflects away, missing the greased Yalgin completely!
Giggles swings his flail at Corbyn, wheezing and blowing bubbles of blood from his mouth as he does. Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8 His swing is weak and easily dodged, and he falls to one knee as he misses, giving out a great sigh and falling down, bleeding weakly onto the ground.
Stumper sees the half-orc fall and moves around the body to assault the last remaining foe: the officious man. His sword and shield flash and the snarling man's look of panicked confusion is the last expression he'll ever make as he falls to the ground, broken and bleeding out.
Combat is over. The children stare at you in varying degrees of fear.

Paxs |

"Do not be afraid children, we were sent to help and to find Gaedren Lamm. Do you know where we can find him?"
Paxs calmly walks to the discarded wand.
I am going to go pick up the wand and examine it. spell craft 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

The children cringe when you get closer. Diplomacy checks, please!
The wand is a wand of acid splash, 38 charges remaining.

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

The children look slightly less likely to bolt as Brim speaks to them. From the other room, the children enter as well, until there are around 30 kids staring at the party. They range in age from 5-15, all looking thin, bruised and waifish.
One of the children calls out: "Whaddya want? Mistah Lamm ain't gonna be happy wit' you."

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

On the officious man's corpse: 3 bottles of acid, tanglefoot bag, thunderstone, leather armor, dagger, light crossbow with 10 bolts, garnet amulet, identical key to the cabinet you found on the gnome.
On the half-orc's corpse: flail, studded leather armor and light wooden shield.

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

The bold one who spoke before points grimly at the floor. "'E's down below. Them's take them what Lamm don't like no more down there. Through the old boat. Then thems what Lamm don't like don't come back. Only Giggles and Yalgin ever come back. And theys always smiled then."

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

Paxs |

"Does anyone want a crossbow or some bolts or a tanglefoot bag, or thunderstone? These may come in handy. Always best to outfit ourselves from our enemies as I always say. Whatever we do not take we can give to these kids so they can sell it for food."

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

The kids cringe at Slumper's frank words. A couple of the older kids begin shepherding the younger children down to the floor and across to where the other kids are. One of them stops and tugs on Slumper's armor. She's a 6-8 year old, dirty face, bright blue eyes. "Mistah Lamm is downstairs. They go through the pier and into the boat. But they sleep in there." She points to a door nearby and joins the others leaving.

Slumper |

With an easing of his scowl Slumper shows a small bit of compassion Slumper tosses her a few silver coins.
"What do you think, surely no one is asleep anymore but maybe we can find something of value, I'll stand guard out here if anyone wants to check it out."

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

A quick inspection reveals an office, a sitting room/entrance room and a series of bunks. The bunks are relatively clean, with no personal items stored here. Thrak does find a well-made dagger with a hematite hilt under a loose floorboard. Other than this, the rooms are clean, and the office seems legitimate, even having scrolls filled with order numbers and shipments. No sign of Lamm is to be found.
