Qaru is of course concerned over the body of the crewman, and what would happen to it if they start crushing the xill larvae. But since they would eat the body any way, if let unchecked, best course of action is to put all effort on crushing the larvae.

The ship’s bridge is alight in red warning screens. The nearing
ethereal storm looms beyond the forward viewing platform,

flicker intermittently. A battered captain’s chair oversees two
tiers of descending operations panels.
A solitary Kasathan figure lies slumped over in the front right
pilot's chair.
