As the bear reaches Jin, but before he can grab him, a bolt of black streaks out of the shadows towards the bear's maw.
prepared attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14 including -4 for lack of precise shot. V flat footed touch, unless it beat his stealth.
damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

Next round. as lan readied an action, triggered by the bear, his initiative is moved to just before the bear.
Lan slips around the outside edge of the tree before the bear can act again, firing another disrupt pattern, this time into the creature's flank.
Can't move my piece as I'm at work.
attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21 including -4 for lack of precise shot, due to grappled Jin. V touch.
damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
crit?: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19 including -4 for lack of precise shot, due to grappled Jin. V touch.
damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
I hope the bear didn't need its right rear leg for anything...
Jin Hebimoto
Alright then Jin doesnt like this thing so time to put it down.
The claw rakes against his armor and digs deep into his flesh but doesnt catch on. His protective suit deflecting some of the damage. With the enemy slowly focused on him Jin allows his allies to take advantage of the ears weakness before taking the opportunity to try and put it down.
Basically he would delay until everyone else went, setting up a flank for Elisa to get her attack in if she goes around. If it doesnt fall Jin will use his Hero point to attack the Bear twice on his turn and possibly drop it. Add +2 to hit if there is a flank.
After the efforts of The Party A sudden surge of purpose flows through Jin as thunderous blows rain down each going for the head much like how he intended to fell the Winter Wolf.
Powerful Assault Hammer Smash: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 242d6 + 12 ⇒ (4, 3) + 12 = 19
Heroic Powerful Assault Hammer Smash: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 232d6 + 12 ⇒ (6, 2) + 12 = 20

@Jin are you sure you want to burn your hero point on this fight? This bear is far less of a threat than the winter wolf was, and it's going down quickly, hero point or not. So it may be a good idea to save the hero point for something really critical, e.g. if the hobgoblins decided they'd rather eat us than negotiate with us.
Jin Hebimoto
The Hero point is only spent if the first strike doesnt drop it or if Jin has to attack at all, as I'm using it to get another standard. And the bear is only less bad because we werent caught unprepared. And seeing as he got the point from combat it is only fair that it is used in such. Do not underestimate High rolls and the deadliness of swingy rolls. I even separated the rolls just in case. If its not used then I'd likely use it for the negotiations with the Hobgoblins. Which is mainly what he picked this fight for to get a little more sway with the AND to keep wild animals from off this path.

Will: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23 You've been spotted!
Zaralastra seems to break through the bears will with the second attempt. Lan and Brother Hawkeye both fire off ranged attack, but miss, leaving Jin and Elisa to finish off the beast.
Congratulations!
Jin Hebimoto
Lan's touch attacks missed? Also did it take both my attacks or just one?
Once the bear had been dealt with Jin went about harvesting it, his use of a bludgeoning implement in killing it kept the pelt in better condition.
Taking 10 for 19 as we have other stuff to do
He was injured but not by a lot, his defensive implements staving off some of the pain. " EXCELLENT WORK, WE NOW HAVE A SAFER ROUTE AND A PRIZE ALONG WITH A STORY FOR THE NEGOTIATIONS. LAN GO AND INSPECT WHAT IT IS THE BEAR WAS EATING WHILE I PREPARE THE PERISHABLES FOR TRANSPORT "
jimibones83
I don't necessarily have the mechanics of everyone's attacks memorized all the time. I sometimes rely on the player to explain to me how their attack works, and trust that they are correct. The text stated that it was an attack vs flat-footed touch if he was unseen, that's what I went off of. I realize now how it's suppose to work, but at the time I was just going off what I read.
Jin Hebimoto
Understandable, Especially later on and even now with someone like Jin who will be completely malleable. He has 3 modes already with different gains.
While Jin busily dressed the bear, trying well not to tarnish the fur with too much blood thinks o how this pelt compares to the furs from before.
Appraise: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Zaralastra
While Jin cleans and dresses the bear, Zaralastra descends from the tree. Zaralastra's hands gradually revert to their normal size and shape as he walks over to Jin to inspect the kill.
About how far are we from the goblin settlement, in terms of distance and time?

Given the way Pathfinder adds layer upon layer to the existing rule system, including whole classes with their own set of specialized exceptions to those rules, it's a wonder any combat can occur in real-time without getting bogged down in constant consultation of rule books. In that regard, PbP is probably a better method of play than face to face.

While Jin is busy skinning his bear, Lan activates Chameleon, and slips out to investigate whatever it was the bear was eating.
Stealth: 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (7) + 24 = 31
Jin Hebimoto
Jin raises he helmet as he does his work talking to Brother Hawkeye. " Your performance was expected for lack of moving durable targets. Eventually you shall find your stride but as it stands currently you simply lack experience with said use. Our coordination and prowess simply came from our first venture out here. We have adapted to that experience and grew stronger. "
Brother Hawkeye
"Ah so you are familiar to the ways out here. I shall try to learn as much as possible from the rest of you. I now I am not gifted with the mental prowess as the rest of you.I still can learn much from your non psion sills." he stretches and smiles as he looks out over the scenery.
"All in all I do have to say it is quite beautiful out here"
Jin Hebimoto
A small squirt of blood hits Jin across the face but he doesnt flinch much from the contact.
" It is interesting, I will say this much. Beautiful is another story "
This also reminded him that he need to drink one of the lesser curatives about time that Lan reports back and the Party finishes their respective tasks.
Lan Minerva
What should be rolled to determine the direction the arrow was fired from? Lan will try to investigate while he has time, then draw his party's attention to it.
Jin Hebimoto
So we shall wait on Lan as Brother Hawkeye and Zara is talkative but currently are either in the process of working or.. Is Elisa who isnt talkative.
Jin tests the weight of the pelt ad some of the bear flesh. He tried to preserve the fierceness of the animal as an homage to it ferocity and to give the Hobgoblins a better tribute.
Lan Minerva
I think you misread my statement. He wants to investigate the area the bow was fired from that hit the elk. Unless it's obviously the party.
Zaralastra
I'm just waiting around for everyone to finish up and continue on the mission. I think per Lan's comment, that Hawkeye is assuming we didn't fire the arrow that killed the elk (a reasonable assumption since it was already dead when we arrived) and, that being the case, wants to figure out what he can about the arrow, what direction was it fired from, is it a goblin arrow, perhaps a crossbow bolt etc.
Lan Minerva
Pretty much that. DM attached something to something otherwise innocuous, making an out of place thing like an arrow in the beast something to look into. Lan, being very curious, would investigate.
jimibones83
@Lan Whoa, I did misunderstand, and you were very clear lol. Sorry, I literally woke up and rolled over to check the game from my phone. Anyway...
The arrow does not belong to the party, and there is a trickle of blood along the elk's tracks. It appears the elk was shot somewhere else and got away, then fell here, where the bear found it.
Lan Minerva
Except in the snow!
Lan returned to the party.
"Elk. Shot by a hunter, but not fell. The bear found it."
Jin Hebimoto
" Hrm, it is something that is odd considering there arent too many people outside of the village, perhaps we take it as well another tribute along with the bear.. Or I could create some fine Jerky for the road. Either way, your report as adequate Lan. I thank you. "
Jin goes and dresses the Elk as well and salvages what he can once done he would speak again. " With this small task completed we are going to the halfway point, the cache will be secured around there, then head to the Rendezvous with the Hobgoblins and establish relations. it will be hidden well with a combination of our prospective skills. if it becomes dark before we reach the area I'll set up camp with this tent, it will be much more warm. "
If the rest agrees he goes along the path towards their destination.
He uses his scouting ability to find an appropriate area to make a hole. Lan's stealth abilities to hide markings and disturbances. Zara's power and Elisa's knowledge. At the end the debris is tossed in a completely different area while Jin touches the ground and full heals the ground shut again as if nothing had been buried (Astral Repair OP) He would look up and try and determine around how much time of light they had left.
Survival: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
Lan Minerva
While Jin worked on the elk, Lan slipped around the outer edges of the group, stealthily keeping watch.
Lan Minerva
"He may have. But when a bear shows up, the elk ceases to be yours to claim." Lan said, as his patrols brought him back to the group.
Jin Hebimoto
" That is what I thought as well, the natural choice would be to track it down as an Elk could die from the shot but run on adrenaline for several hours before passing. If I tracked it back to its source there is no guarantee I locate the recipient of the arrow. As such wasting the time to find them that could be spent securing the resources provided. If w find the owner w will give them the spoils. Who knows it might have been one of our Diplomatic interests and this will further enhance our chances. "
Lan Minerva
Lan will try to remember the fletching of the arrow and its design, to keep in mind later, when he sees more archers.
He does this as he takes note of Hawkeye's fletching being distinctive.
Jin Hebimoto
" We have enough time to reach the camp by nightfall but I am not sure I would wish to cause a situation where we must possibly stay in their camp, even if invited. However if the rest of you deem this a fine course I shall lead our group there. Otherwise we should travel a bit further and make a proper camp arriving in the morning as that would be a better omen. I could brew an elixir and start on the pelts possibly as well. We also have little danger from cold anymore with our equipment. I'd like your input " Jin aid to the party after flexing his shoulders to alleviate some pain.
Lan Minerva
Lan shrugged. He hated forced waiting, but there wasn't much choice. Showing up at someone's house to camp in their yard didn't seem like a good first impression.
Jin Hebimoto
" Its decided then that we shall camp for the night. If we happen upon a Hobgoblin along the way we shall invite him for warmth if need be. It's settled, let us go. "
Jin uses his remaining time to secure the campsite and set it up. There should b three shifts for the night. After the camp was made he will hunt with what little light he had and possibly make an Elixir during his watch.
Survival (Camp): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
Survival (Reagents): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
Survival (Reagents): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
Craft Alchemy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Zaralastra
Zaralastra volunteers for whatever watch shift is convenient for the group as a whole, following his usual routine of expending a psionic power point just before retiring, in order to forego the need for food and water for the next 24 hours, and regaining his psionic focus upon arising.
Lan Minerva
Lan volunteers to take the first four-hour watch; he barely used his abilities, while Zara pushed himself a bit more. That meant him getting rest was more valuable, first. Lan would keep anyone who felt like staying up with him company, possibly in the form of staring, or rearranging things for seemingly no reason.
Lan can watch for all but 4 hours. Zara ditto.
Jin Hebimoto
Thats not unfortunate, I would either get them along the way or after camp was set up whichever is convenient my chars Wis is above 10 even 12. It only takes 2 hours to find reagents and the crafting is during his shift, he'd get enough rest. Regardless h failed to make anything anyway so now we simply wait too see if anything happens at night or if it was a night of bonding.
