Raven gestures, 'go on.' "And the noble? I'm not exactly the most personable person, and people tend to take my faux pas to the extreme. As in, trying to kill me or ruin my life over it. Don't really understand why."

Alamina greets Kesten warmly on their arrival, happily storing her war gear and donning more comfortable clothing.

"Suffice it to say, the threat to the peace in that woodland area has been dealt with. I recommend any hunters or trappers who do venture that way to speak with the Eratstalites for ways to humanely take game. The harsh traps we brought along with us seemed to put the locals off just a touch."

"Noble visitors and more clergy? Our little settlement grows quit quickly, no? How do they seem, Kesten? Are these new found friends or simply opportunists looking to profit where they can?"

Alamina grins at the thought of fully fledged Erastil priests, "At least we'll have some more speakers at the services for the faithful, eh? Not that I mind, but it will be nice to have another voice up there."

With Kesten
Kesten shrugs at both Raven and Alamina. "Both seem to be decent enough sorts, and at least somewhat aware that this close to the frontier isn't a place for frivolity. I'm sure both have something they want, however, that's something you'll probably have to get used to, I'd wager."

At the nobleman's sales pitch, Raven gives him a frank look. "One: what ruined the settlement? I want to know what I'm going to walk into before I get ambushed by some horrible monster. Two: what are we going to get out of this? We're stretched thin as it is. I don't want to dedicate resources unless we get a guaranteed return."

Crypt Exploration | Roles

The nobleman nods. "Excellent questions. I would be concerned about the seriousness of your venture if you were to go running off after any little breadcrumb trail."

He thinks a moment, then replies, "I am unsure what exactly invited ruin into the settlement. Whether betrayal or some monster, I do not know. It seems my ancestors were discourteous and didn't chronicle the hows and whys of the means they met their likely demise. All I know is that about one hundred years ago, the Narlmarches swallowed up Rezbinford and no contact was made since. No matter what brought the settlement low, it is unlikely that the same threat still remains after all this time."

He smiles. "Now, I can fully understand you not wishing to go out of your way merely on my accord, however, I can assure you that it would be worth your while both financially and politically. I am willing to make a sizable donation to your cause in the form of gold and materials that you may need. Beyond that, while I do not stand to inherit, I am owed some small favors by a few of my peers. You may find a friendly ear outside of Brevic influence may be useful." He looks to the party. "Regardles, from what I gather here, it would not be too far out of your way, and clearing the area of what inhabits the ruins would likely be in your best long term interests anyway."

"Hey Raven, what's the old saying about horses, gifts, and mouths? I think we should make friends with these folks. If he's really going to settle the land, he could be a fantastic ally for us. And if he knows people back in Brevoy, that could be extremely useful going forward."

Alamina shakes the man's hand as well, then heads off with Raven.

Raven shifts uncomfortably. "Do you think I would pass up such a good offer? Allies in the court would be, um... good. But, if I'm right, the priestess we're about to meet is going to say that the lands are actually sacred to Erastil, and we're going to have to choose between gaining the support of the church or the nobles. Because our life works that way."

"Well, the church of Erastil is pretty low-key and small. They don't have a huge amount of influence and pull, as far as I know. If I had to guess, I'd say the Erastalites are going to want us to build a community in the woods and make all the single people get married, have babies, and start up farms. That might be a bit stereotypical on my part, but I don't really know any more about their religion than that."

Once you are through with the Taldite nobleman, a woman in her early 20s approaches you. She has reddish-brown hair tied into a braid, and visible holy symbol of Erastil hanging from a cord around her neck. Her clothing is practical mixing brown tones and leather armor.

As she approaches, she gives a broad smile and fingers her holy symbol for a moment. "Thank you for seeing me, I'm sure that you're very busy. I've heard much about you all and all you've done for this region. I grew up not far from the Brevic border, so I know all about the issues with bandits in this region. Your actions have been one of the first steps towards stability in this region for some time."

She clears her throat. "Of course, this is probably nothing you haven't already heard, so I'll cut to the chase. In the coming days, the church of Erastil will likely have prominence. Despite your individual faiths" she nods towards Alamina in particular, "Many frontiersman and community seekers revere Old Deadeye. Yet there are divisions in the Faith. I represent a philosophy that emphasizes individual strengths and teaches that everyone must follow their own paths. You seem to be a cosmopolitan group of men and especially women. Many of the headstrong seekers that gather here will follow your influence. When the time comes, I ask that you support my leadership over the followers of my faith in these Stolen Lands."

"Are there such squabbles amongst the priesthood of Erastil? I know only the clergy of the Dreamer, and we typically move around so frequently, and have such amall groups around which we pray, that doesn't come into play."

Alamina looks the woman up and down, appraising her functional and appropriate clothing and equipment.

"Are these others people we should worry about? I admit, I have heard tales of Erastalites being less than flexible, especially among city dwellers. So far, simple prayers under the night sky and peaceful tidings for those spiritually inclined have been plenty. Are you saying our community needs more formal prayer atructure? Churches and books and the like?"

Raven nods. "Interesting. How exactly will your leadership differ from that of other Erastilite priests, day to day? I agree, some of the Erastilites I've met are-" Raven bites her tongue. "Stodgy, that's for sure, and I believe that change will be good for the church. But what do the more established Erastlites think of you and your style?"

Vorsirion raises an eyebrow at the woman's request that the group support her.

"This seems to be an internal matter within your faith, is it not? How many followers of your deity do you anticipate will come here?"

Crypt Exploration | Roles

The cleric gives a small smile at Alamina's questions. "We should discuss differences in our faith later. I'm interested to hear of your own experiences." She shakes her head softly. "The faith of Erastil is often dominated by a Patriarchy, and many of our adherants believe in a strong sense of order. We are taught that strong leadership and community are foundations of civilization. Yet, I fear that being unable to adapt to a changing world may cause issues in this strange realm."

Looking to Raven and Vorsirion, she responds, "Our numbers are currently few, but from the group that has already gathered I expect that the faithful of Erastil are more likely to be inclined to forge a civilization out of the wilderness. Too, there are rumors of the roots of old worship here. I have heard stories of temples of works blessed by Old Deadeye. Perhaps you have come accross them? No? No matter. Suffice to say that undoubtedly Erastil worship will be common in this region."

She sighs. "As for my particular style, the younger settlers tend to agree with my views. Their parents or older settlers seem lean to the ear of Jhod more often. He isn't a bad sort, just short sighted and inflexible."

Raven thinks for a moment, sighs and says, "To be quite honest with you, which branch of your faith we support will attract different demographics to our settlement. Jhod's faction would attract more traditional, stodgy, and creatively sterile people, but it would also bring old money and support from the official church. Your faction, on the other hand, would bring enthusiasm, new ideas, and the ability to adapt, but we would lose the money we would end up losing whatever resources we would gain from supporting Jhod and the official church would look down upon us. It's a difficult decision." Raven shrugs. "I personally wholeheartedly support your viewpoint, but I have to think about the wellbeing of all these people too. You have to think about these things."

And this post perfectly demonstrates why Raven has high intelligence and wisdom, but low charisma. She quickly analyzed the advantages and disadvantages and weighed them, but she decided to be brutally honest rather than be coy and keep them to herself, as well as outright saying that she likes the other priest's ideas better.

The priestess smiles, even in the face of Raven's bluntness. "I understand perfectly and wasn't expecting an immediate decision. Right now there are so few settlers that different ideologies shouldn't be an issue. Hopefully you'll keep me in mind should there ever be a decision to be made, however. Thank you for your time"

With that, she nods her head and leaves.

"We have a number of new immigrants that might prove useful for a long-term settlement. I wonder how much longer our infrastructure will hold out as currently set up."

He runs a hand through his hair, then says "Might we investigate this nobleman's ancestral lands? I am not sure I am quite ready for administrative grind again."

*pokes thread* I'll move things along tonight to investigating Lloyd Rezbin's ancestral home unless someone has anything to add.

Crypt Exploration | Roles

Once again leaving the safety, duties, and confines of Oleg's you strike out into the wilderness following the directions that Lloyd Rezbin gave you: making your way to the Stag Lord's keep to visit in, then following along the Skunk River upriver. The adventuring is relatively uneventful (no pesky undead plaguing your path!) although you do scare off a thylacine in your progress westward. On the third day having left the keep, you arrive at an ancient wreckage that fits the nobleman's description: on the ford of the Skunk river debris and remnants of walls jut out from the river on a small island. The island itself looks like it was once sixty feet across, though the river appears to be making a channel through the land and carving a new path through what was probably once a highly defensible position.

After the priestess leaves she shakes her head almost as if coming out of a daze. "Sorry. I've been kinda out of it lately. I guess that turned out well. Though I do believe we could perhaps have handled it more diplomatically. You were quite blunt Raven. That's not always to our advantage. Sometimes saying things more along the lines of what they want to hear rather than what we think can gain us more. Maybe we still can get something from both sides in this dispute. Though I must say I'm more friendly towards her view. I don't like the aspect of their faith where a woman's place is to mend home and heart. Men should not rule everything by default. Sorry again for not helping out more."

Not to put words in Vorsirion's mouth, but he would probably be able to confer that the Tatzylwrm has limited intelligence (superior to an animal, but inferior to humanoid) but is likely to at least be territorial. It does seem that the party is leaning towards dealing with the threat, so the various buffing spells go off prior to Raven's attack.

Raven, I'm not sure how you're calculating the Throw with the spear, but you can only use it with Melee attacks. Throwing it would use Dex instead of strength for the attack bonus, and right now you have range penalties.

After the party confers and Elvara performs some summoning Smexy shenanigans, the group advances towards the waiting wyrms. Raven initiates the conflict with a thrown spear, which due to a combination of distance and the flotsam the tatzylwrm is hiding behind, appears to prevent the magic weapon from connecting. I assume that with the time spent buffing Vosirion would have had time to both come back to us and to buff himself beforehand. He did cast lead blades/shield previously. A large part of the value of reach is lost if we can't use it to gain AoOs. This is a pretty bad tactical position for us. Would you allow Vosirion to move back (perhaps between Smexy and Raven)?

"You ssssaw Ravensss throw. We'll fightsss in meleesss." Smexy says as she slithers up to Vosirion, prepearing to strike. "Come sssstay behind me for protection."

Smexy moves to S of Vosirion, readying an action to attack. Again weird timing issues come into play, but hopefully it won't be an issue(ideally the actions will go off: Grease ->AoO->Readied attack, if either attack hits and she succeeds at grapple the creature will be automatically pulled next to her so Vosirion's readiedattack goes off, even if it falls in the grease (DC 18)). Elvara should be w of Smexy. Alamina really should be up with the others so she doesn't get pounced on while isolated from the rest.

The party adopts a defensive posture, looming with their readied attacks. The Tatzlwyrm river-side lunges forward, drawing out sword, spell, and Smexy!

Reflex Save vs Grease: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27

Possibly due to its wet hide, the Wyrm glides through the grease
Smexy Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Smexy Grab: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Smexy Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

Smexy and Elvara strike down, causing it to roar in pain, but it evades the eidolon's entanglement and bites down at Vorsirion

Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21

However it merely brushes against the magical Shielding

Next up: Raven, Elvara

Due to readying an action Elvara don't get to act until after green. Also both Smexy and Vosirion readied actions as well, so those would go off in addition to the AoO. 14 is probably not enough to grab it anyway.

With her long neck Smexy lashes out as she prepared and again as it comes closer in her threatened area. She grabs the creature in her now massive jaws and quickly coils around it, crushing it in her grip and setting it up for Vosirion to finish off.

Oops, yeah. In which case, that's an 18.

Well, then. Sadly, they never got to use any of their cool attacks!
In a flurry of motion and gore, the party assaults the pair of Tatzlwyrms. Smexy bites and crushes in a display of serpent on serptent action, while Raven brings her Enlarged weapon crashing down on the wyrm; both attacks leave the wyrms bleeding and dying amidst the rubble.

Both are unconscious and bleeding out, but not dead. You do have the option of stabilizing them, but it would take some doing to make them anything but hostile.

Assuming you go to investigate the ruins of the structures

Investigating the Ruins:
With the Tatzlwyrms dealt with, you are able to investigate the ruins more thoroughly. There is little in the way of structural integrity remaining; most of the walls, and even the bridges have succumbed to river water and the elements. On one end it appears that a wall shifted and broke away into the Skunk. Little in the way of human in habitation remains intact on the surface.

With a thorough search, the sharp eyes of the party note that at the edge of the river where the first of the wyrms were spotted is a dug out area above the river bank into covered by a section of the ruined wall. In an area that seems to be a squeeze for human sized individuals, the party finds a shimmer of gold and several shiny objects... as well as what appears a nest that has five eggs the size of double-fist.

Raven kneels down and inspects the hoard. "Vorsirion or Elvara, could you get over here and scan for magic?" Delicately, she picks up one of the eggs and gives an almost terrifying smile. "These are undoubtedly the most valuable pieces of the hoard, though."

"Those are undoubtedly the eggs after the wyrms. I wonder if we could raise those as companions somehow when they grow up. That would be awesome." Elvara muses.

"Don't you have enough with me sssh?" Smexy hisses, but then shows she's jesting. "I understand it would not be the same. It's actually a good idea, but I'm not sure it's feasible."

Elvara scans for magic as bid.

"Are those dragon eggs? Was this a breeding pair of river dragons, and we slew them to take their treasure?"

Alamina seems equal parts excited and horrified at the prospect.

"I mean, I thought the stories of heroes slaying dragons and earning treasure hoards were just that, stories. I never thought I'd be part of one, even in my dreams!"
