Well yeah, but I imagine once he makes his final decisions, we'll uh... we'll know. We've been exposed to the gory fashion through which those who are not chosen will meet their end, but we have yet to see WHO has failed to make the cut.
Therefore, we are all still alive, at least for the moment. ALSO, he was nearly dead anyway, AND he took a look at the thing with Detect Magic, so he could also be referring to himself and his familiar, as he probably believed he was going to die then and there.
Norvallen
Because death can't be that painful, and the sheer POWER he saw from Detect Magic is why he is saying that. Norvallen is still reeling from what he saw and its now gone.
As for if he lives, no clue.
Fennik Valorn
I'll be hittin the sack now. Basically, Fennik will manifest Vigor (Ps) on his dragon friend whenever Jamahzin loses his temporary hp, then switch to the two power stones of Natural Healing (Ps) as needed. Then, he'll try to regain his psionic focus (1d20+5 vs DC 20) as long as it takes so he can Induce Pain (Ps) (Vitalist knack) on whatever critter is still moving by then. Thanks for GMing this little session Aqua-Thor. Good luck everybody. Goodnight.

Sorry
It is my hope you will accept my invitation to continue. If you choose, make your way to Lord Alystair, if not . . .
Everyone else, thank you for your interest. Lots of good characters! It was a very difficult choice. I hope at least you were entertained. If you wish feel free to make one more post in Gameplay illustrating your horrible demise being eaten from the inside or outside by the beasties.
Thanks again!

So... much... work...
Oh well, I can recycle the story. Have fun, everyone!
I know that feel bro, oh well, to those that got chosen Have a fun game, i hope it lasts a long time for all of you.
Really wanted to adventure with Cassandra. :P
(man though this has been rough that last thread that randomly dissapeared and then this, it's saddening but i don't blame you)
Norvallen
Just setup the possible end, and read the post of recruits.
That had to be a rough choice of who to choose from.
Gaspar Khemet
Considering who all is here, I would offer to run the AP with some of you... If I had it.
Future thoughts. Future thoughts.

I have the AP, was going to run it with friends a while ago but it kinda fell through, If you really are up to GM i definitely could throw the PDFs your way. sorry if you don't want this to continue here we can swap to PM

Ok, looking for feedback. Was this a good recruitment? I wanted it to be more than just submit a character and wait, and I hope it helped create some bonds between characters that might not form otherwise, but I also recognize how frustrating it might be to ask you to invest in the character before knowing you might be picked.
That's why I kept the duration fairly short. I wish I had the personal fortitude to run two tables, but I know my limitations.

honestly i'm going to be completely honest, it was great during, but heart retching afterwards. If you did do this i'd consider possibly opening recruitment and then saying at X date, people can start posting in gameplay and Y date is the chopping block, so there's maybe 1-3 days instead of however long this went for. If or when i get some pbps under my belt and i start GMing, i probably will use some variation of this.
Jonathan Haykes
It was more involved than most recruitment, but I think on some level it makes things easier on your end. Seeing who can muster up the time to do something like this gives you a better idea of which players will be more invested in the game, and it also gives you an idea of who works together the best as a party in a way that's more than just mechanical.
I can't speak for whether or not that outweighs having all that work be for naught, but as a fellow GM it seems like an excellent option. Speaking for myself, this was the most fun I've ever had in recruitment, so there's that.
Gaspar Khemet
Yeah, it was loads of fun. The cut off was just... I don't know, it was bad. Probably because it WAS so much fun.
Gaspar is now one of my favorites, but it'll be hard to play him without gestalt and a pretty high point-buy because of how I made him. I just have to keep a look out. Also makes me really wonder where I went wrong (in the 'what could I do better?' and not the 'wah you didn't pick me' kind of way).
I'm not sure how to make that any better on those of us that did devote hours to the recruitment, so it is what it is. Any way you spin it, it was certainly better than submitting a character and waiting (and wondering if the GM will get your concept just by looking at your sheet).
Cassandra Lupin
A little chaotic and hard to follow but I think better all in all. Fixes some of the issues when you normally start a game like you all meet up and decide to adventure. More believable with a mutual enemy.
Jamahzin

dude, i'm a str/con kobold, I literally could not have played this character under other character creation rules. XD
Also makes me really wonder where I went wrong
honestly, it feels like he generally did hold party composition on about as much important as role play, which is brutally fair, just don't like being on that other side of the fair.
thor you really do have my compliments though, I think when I GM this will be how i do it.

Also, I might suggest making it a... multi-staged recruitment? I know that there are characters that I'm just... not going to take. They don't fit the feel of the game, they don't work well with the party dynamic mechanically, etc. I'd tell them thanks-but-no-thanks as normal, then have those who are all real potential candidates do this stage.

Yeah, that's perhaps a bit worse. XD Still, monk is MAD as is. Even with this point-buy, Gestalt is the only thing that was keeping the idea running. Without it I'd need strength too. The concept demands a decent charisma and nerfing my con would hurt as a front-line combatant.
That's beside the point though, I'm sure there will be other Golarion set gestalt games with decent point-buys. And Gaspar will be there to make his poppa proud. :P
Gaspar Khemet
No way I'm not recycling this almost 5,500 word bad boy anywho. XD
I'mma hop off here unless anyone else has questions about the experience or any such and give the discussion over to the players and GM now.
Jamahzin
i'll probably stick around for a bit to see exactly what happens to everyone. (and that tiny almost impossible chance the GM changes his mind, a guy can dream can't he?)
also, like i said, if anyone is up to GM i can provide PDFs. PM me

Computer back up and running. I'm really glad I didn't have to use the first engineering rule to try to fix it, if something went wrong.
Definitely chaotic on the application during RP. I know I definitely built up a lot stronger bond with Norvallen here during that time, and I can't help but wince for others if they built a similar bond. Being rejected in other games isn't quite as bad, as usually I haven't had a chance to start feeling the character out yet beyond the background.
Combat started out as a great idea, right up until we players started stretching it beyond that initial two to three rounds. It probably would be better to call a halt at the end of X # of rounds, and leave a note of instruction for people who fall during that time frame that someone/thing will recover them after that point for the next part of the application.
I think the time spent and attachment to the character could be the painful part of not being chosen. Sure, it was stated at the start that it would happen, boldly told that those not chosen would get killed, but still...Ow. Even the thought of the characters I was RPing with no longer being there ... ouch, in character and out.
For a game start though, it takes away the possible hiccup of trying to figure out why everyone is partying together.
Jamahzin
That's not a bad idea. If this game goes well, and I do it again, I might try that.
to build upon that, based on the number of applicants, i'd try to narrow it down at the start of the combat phase as well.
man PF really hasn't been going my way recently, this is going to be my last post but i'll watch for a day or two
Scratch that, MAY have a GM, so if it;s alright if the GM does set up a game i may post the link to it here depending on how quickly that turns around.

Oh neato, hey everyone, I had a lot of fun, I feel like I got to meet a lot of unique and interesting characters. There were so many characters in here that I wanted to continue on with.
I liked this recruitment, I agree that I think maybe cutting it down as you go might be good idea. I feel like the recruitment process was in itself (besides being incredible in the volume) was a fun experience that I enjoyed a lot.
I'm going to bed now though.
Cheers.

Revenge from the Americas, over 100 posts during my sleep.
Well, too bad for me. Have fun building your kingdom!
Now, for the ending. I'd like Iavas to live and travel to Osirion with Gaspar, or if she must die, stubbornly defending dying people until overwhelmed by the creatures.
Edit: Oh, and I'd like the butterflies to be involved somehow.
With two worshipers of Desna, the dice HAD to bring them.

Hopping in again to say that Gaspar would be just fine with the former of these options. :P

Iavas, Gaspar & Jamahzin are my tale for this recruitment. Desnan Butterfly Escape. Love.
I enjoyed the recruitment; agree stages would help, as the only negative aspect is player's time spent, but that's still inevitable with a recruitment of this nature faced with a large mix of unique characters & good players, as we had. Stages would help though.
Glad to be picked; not a decision I want to make.
Background coming. I need to cut back on names...

Of nothing else I enjoyed TRYING to keep up with the new posts.
I would like to agree with suggestions above:
Some sort of Tiered recruitment, where that's a PM:
"I'm sorry, I'm not going to accept that concept, but feel free to submit something else" or
"I'm sorry, I do not think our playstyles will mesh" or
"The following 10 characters can continue to the next round of recruitment"
I also vehemently agree with the suggestion that the "2+ rounds" may have been better as "2 to at most 4 rounds" as that gives everyone a chance to show their styles, or even more than one style, yet keeping the chaos factor down more, and keeps everyone from running too far ahead of new plot event!
That all said, Good luck everyone! To those that made it in, enjoy building a kingdom! To those that didn't and are about to die. I salute you! (I'm a going, THATAWAY! I hope that my disappearance, causes some mild head scratching later.)
If someone chooses to start another table, I can be reached via PM, if you would like Roonie to join you.

I know you mentioned this is your first PbP as a GM; I'm running a couple on here, so if you need help with anything getting the boards to work to your liking, I'm more than willing to give you a hand. I know you mentioned you weren't sure how to mark people as inactive in the game, for instance.
If you'd rather figure it out yourself I understand, but I know when I started getting into PbP on here a few months ago my friend Brian was a godsend when it came to getting this stuff set up.

Dresden Files. I love the series, and what was seen reminded immediately of Winter Fey and the Sight.
One thing is known. Norvallen is never, ever, going to trust food he hasn't cooked anymore.
Edit: Whoops, thought you referenced Fey in game. But that was only in discussion. Quick edit there.

Ugh, too many posts during that time. The edit works either way.
Gonna wait for results from the Perception and Arcana here before continuing on.

Posting in a few minutes here. Popping in at work, taking a quick smoke break now.
Does anybody know a way to change your player name? Not the alias, but HotLanta is a stupid name

Make a new one and call it the default?
