Appearance:

D’ahia is an ugly creature, to be sure, but her eyes gleam from her grey-toned face with a sharp brilliance entirely unseen among the common folk of any race. She wears a loose traveling cloak over a chain shirt, adorned with uncountable (and unseen) pockets. Most notably, her entire body seems festooned with vials & bottles & flasks of all sorts. With her cloak unfastened, the mass of small liquids around her body cause her to sparkle dangerously in any flickering light.

On her left hip hangs a coiled whip, the ends of which are fixed with vicious-looking shards of metal. Swinging from her right hip is a battered pistol that looks as if it were put together from various pieces of scrap, yet the infrequent heavy clattering it produces as she moves whispers rumors of screaming, efficient death.

Background:

Born to the (some would say) nigh-lawless streets of Port Ice on the shores of the Lake of Mists & Veils in northern Brevoy (what was once Issia), D'ahia came into this world with an unset yet inevitable price on her head; a bounty that any sage would have fortold to change her life immeasurably. Her father was an educated, intelligent, impeccably well mannered Half-Orc. While he was often shockingly more intelligent than most humans he met, Destilen tended toward his Orc heritage in nearly all matters physical. He was a former traveling scribe, and had been moonlighting as an inaffordably expensive companion at the Frozen Chrysalis. Her mother, Liriana Surtoval, is a prestigious (if not powerful) cousin in the noble family.

As a teenage savant, D'ahia had access to all the resources she could desire through her father's influential connections throughout the city, particularly within the merchant district.

It was at a young age she first experienced black powder among the boisterous swashbucklers that roamed the icy lake and beyond. The rumored substance was a rarity from a distant land, brought in through unknown means, and distributed to people that were equal parts figment & reality. And it was the signature source of might for the most brash of Pirate Captains.

Eventually D'ahia came to split her time between the tutelage of the Captain; a wealthy shopkeep of known wizarding skill; and a dangerously sought rogue chemist in the true underground world of Port Ice (her own "secret" tutor).

Eventually certain other, more influential, members of the Surtoval family learned of D'ahia's existence through their own networks, and felt simultaneous disgust at the thought that such a beast could share their blood and fear for their own politically strenuous claims to nobility.

D'ahia went from tutor to tutor in their hunt for her, most of her adoptive aunt & uncles losing some portion of their lives in Port Ice as a result.

As she ran, D'ahia was forced to flee deeper into the city's underbelly, where she was eventually able to throw off the pursuit and settle into the employ of one of many ruthless bandit leaders, plying and developing the skills she'd learned in her never ending struggle for mastery over black powder; forever driven by her passion to demonstrate that mastery for those who took all but such passion from her.

Rising in power, D'ahia's crime syndicate eventually came to rival the noble-backed criminal enterprises (not an entirely uncommon occurrence), and D'ahia began secretly feeding far-reaching trade secrets (that she herself developed for the syndicate) to hand-picked contacts of the Surtoval family.

Eventually the mathematical tactician's budget broke even & the plot flipped on the unlicensed bandits and hostile family members alike as D'ahia thrust herself into the local political scene through the explosive final topple of the gang leadership and seizure of vast stolen treasures. In the name of the Brevian Royal Family, of course, rightful rulers and true keepers of Port Ice and protectors of the land.

Then she was sent away. But she will deal with these bandits, one way or another, and perhaps return stronger than she left.

Goals & Enemies:

D'ahia:
  • Learn greater mastery over the alchemical mysteries of black powder (flavoring her whole basis for alchemy on abstract, powerful uses of the substance).
  • Discover and get revenge on unknown Surtoval family members.
  • Build a mercantile empire.
  • Establish a trade network throughout the Stolen Lands.
  • Prove herself more fit for the rights of nobility than the nobles who despise her.

Player Goal:

  • Increase proficiency, have fun, & help create an epic adventure

Letter of Introduction for the Merchant Craftsman D'ahia of Port Ice & Recommendation of Her Services as Rendered Unto House Surtoval:

Blessings upon your house, Good Lord or Lady,

It is with great pleasure that I introduce to you the remarkably resourceful & undeniably skilled D'ahia; Merchant Craftsman of Port Ice. As you are undoubtedly aware, it has long been the duty of House Surtoval to mitigate & balance the somewhat-less-respectable business aspects that drive portions of the economic activity in Port Ice - & by extension all of our great nation.

Through the artful application of her mercantile acumen, in conjunction with certain talents of a more direct & noisesome nature, D'ahia was able to leverage our position with various "uncooperative" factions. This surprisingly brilliant half-breed not only helped House Surtoval avoid potential political discomfort, but turned the situation to our ultimate economic advantage.

Thus, when news of your expedition reached us I thought immediately of our friend here. I cannot begin to fathom the strange mechanical & alchemical experiments she conducts in the lab that she carries on her back, but I have seen firsthand demonstrations of the resulting destructive & transformative powers. Suffice it to say, I have been impressed enough to bring this woman to your attention & give her my strongest recommendation. I believe this aspiring young alchemical merchant may provide more than a few unique facets to your hopeful band, whatever their objective may be.

Best Regards,

Domani Surtoval, Lord of the White Manor & Mayor Steward of Port Ice
"Ours is the Right"

As is shown in her backstory, D'ahia is an unrecognized bastard of the Surtovals (oh the follies of youth). Her recent successes in Port Ice have brought her more attention than the family desires, as some members (as well as D'ahia herself) do know the Half-Orc's ties to the family, though none are willing to admit it. Most of those Surtovals aware of her birthright would prefer to have her taken care of quietly, but her recently gained modicum of fame makes a distant, dangerous adventure the better option.
