Looking at the calendar, we entered and left the Sootscale lands on Fireday, 14 Gozran. We had to camp for two nights before reaching Bokken's hut, so that would make the current day Sunday, 16 Gozran (around mid-afternoon).
It took us three days' travel from Oleg's to reach the re-discovered temple - so would it be safe to assume that it would take us four days to reach the temple from Bokken's? If so, that means that if we leave now we should reach the temple on Oathday, Gozran 20 - just three days before the tribute is due to be delivered to Hown-in-the-North in the evening of Sunday, Gozran 23.
(Remember, it takes three days to get from the temple back to Oleg's - that's going to be cutting things really close! Unless we choose to split the party...)

Geez I told you guys to get your own horses but no. ;P
I think we should stop at the post. For the reasons in my post as well as check up on things. After all its right next door to the post and something may have happened. Would keep the hermit outside the post, just in case.

DM Haldhin |

Good morning everyone. My family and I are going on vacation Monday, March 4 through Saturday, March 9. During that time, I do not expect to have a reliable internet connection.
We will be traveling for most of Monday, so I will definitely not post that day. Starting Tuesday, I will try to update threads at least once a day, but it may not be possible depending on the internet situation.
Just wanted to warn everyone ahead of time if I end up going silent for the entire week.

It might be easier to a flat out vote here then post the results ICly in gameplay, true, but let's give the others a chance to opine a bit more. Bridgette's idea of mixing up the silver trade seems most likely to pass everyone's muster but I could be wrong.
The gold mine is something I want to pursue, but we'll see how it goes. Speaking out of character, I'm not blind to the fact that boom towns have been born of such things. Which is a good thing, imo, as population growth makes the land more settled and truly like a kingdom in the making. We'll still need them to stay out of Sootscale turf

Arumil Amaim |

Well the problem with the gold mine is our lack of people. We would need to at least have a mining camp which needs at least half a dozen men. Then again I dont know much about mining so just a guess.
Lets not forget we still have a local bandit lord to deal with. Among other things. We are getting overworked with all these problems. >.<

Bydar |

Oh, yes, there is a LOT left to do. We have hexes on we haven't explored yet that quite surprise me. But we're kind of pinned down with healing Bokken for a day or two anyway so it seems now might be a good time for discussions.

DM Haldhin |

First, nobody has heard of Renton or the Green Water Syndicate. It's a new name to everyone.
Next, I am going with the majority decision that the silver will be split evenly for now. Sootscale will send the silver ore to the Trading Post, where you (or Oleg, or whomever) will deal with making sure it gets to the right place. This process does not have to be micromanaged, feel free to assume it happens automatically unless I tell you differently. All I need to know is how much you want to take from what's paid for your fees. If you get 2 sp 5 cp, how much are you keeping, and how much are you sending to Sootscale. A rough estimate for similar services would see you keeping 3 cp and sending 2 sp 2 cp to the kobolds.
Also, just to be very clear, there is not a right or wrong answer here. One decision does not place the group into the service of any higher power. Choosing to send all of the silver to the Church of Shelyn would not have meant the group now serves the Regent. Ditto the fey and/or Green Water. Your choices do matter, but it's more of a cumulative situation. If/when a single issue arises that requires a black or white answer that will significantly impact the group, I will let you know.
Regarding the gold mine, the kobolds are focused on their new enemies and do not seem to have any thought of expansion at this time. Additionally, their numbers are likely going to diminish with the war, putting any potential land grabs out of their reach for several years, if not a decade or more. It is more likely a new group would rise to take control over it, but you would have plenty of warning before that would happen. Suffice to say, it's good to keep it in mind, but don't worry about it for now.
-----
All that said, here are the outstanding issues that seem most important from my point of view:
1. The plague, gnomes, kobolds; how do they fit together, if at all, they are not in any hexes immediately adjacent to the Post, and Arianna was attacked by purple kobolds a couple of hexes east of the Post.
2. The bipeds heading toward Howl's territory.
3/4/5/etc. Exploration; Stag Lord (bandits); Tatzlwyrms
I'm attempting to sort these based on the information you currently have, and how much of a threat they seem to be at the present time. I know there are others beyond this list, but I think these are the most pressing at the moment.
Please let me know if there are any other questions or clarifications I can make. I should be able to get on again tomorrow at least once.
Enjoying it very much, thanks! Managing to not be sunburned (yet) is a big part of why I'm enjoying it. :)

Arumil Amaim |

Concerning our cut of the trade agreement I think the 10% rule works just fine. The rest goes to the kobolds, I would also think that sending some arms after the first shipment is sold off would be a good gesture along with their payment. May want to let them know about the water with plague too. ;)
We need to meet with Howl soon for his tribute right?
I keep some aloe vera for sunburns. Also good to have on hand then not. xP

DM Haldhin |

Unless anybody has anything else they want to do or say for the next few days in the Post, I'm going to go ahead and advance to the delivery to Howl in my next update (tonight). You have three days befor the next delivery.
I need to know if you want Oleg to talk to Captain Garess about starting the training, or if one of you wants to do it.
Also, let me know what you want to do or where you want to go after the delivery to Howl and I'll go ahead an include it.

Arumil Amaim |

Arumil will want to inform Sootscale about the trade agreement, so he can send the ore to the post, make up delivery dates, and inform them of the expected amounts of ore they will be sending. He will also have Oleg inquire about weapons, armor, and supplies in bulk, taking into consideration the gray dwarves weaknesses (ie. their weakness to light based tactics). As well as ways to get rid of giant ants, such as an effective poison or other methods.
Not right to waste the time. ;)
Arumil will want Oleg to inquire about Antiplague, Water Purification Sponges, and Alchemical Coal (Blinding Cinders and Choking Smoke) especially on top of anything else he thinks up.

Arianna Silvermane |

Nothing of much significance to do before the tribute. Arianna writes a letter back to Chamber inviting him to visit her at the trading post. She also asks to purchase a few items from Oleg (mead, honey candy, small bells or other musical items) to give to Perlivash and Tyg the next time the group passes through the fey creatures' area.
As for exploration after the tribute, suggest we start with the hex between Oleg's trading post and the hex where we found the animal traps and dead trapper.

Temerith |

Temerith is likely to see how the tiefling family is settling in. Other than that, he may offer his assistance with training the men (both to help them learn faster and to help him overcome his lack of people skills) when he's not busy with anything else.
I think talking to Sootscale about the mine is a little premature. We need the forces to defend the Post and a place to store it before we should start having him send the unrefined ore to us.

Temerith |

Okay, I have to apologize for not being very active for the last week or so.
I just started a job, while taking a full load of classes at my college, and doing 15 hours of observation at an Elementary school for one of those classes, so I have been mentally and emotionally drained and not really in the proper shape to be contributing meaningfully to the game.
My last day of observation is Thursday, so after that, it should be full speed ahead, but I will likely get bogged down with papers and such in the coming month or two. I kindly request your patience.

Raxus Half-blood |

A couple questions before I act-
On the map, those are just trees, and not dense undergrowth right? Is any of this place difficult terrain? Would those fallen logs block charge lanes, or could an Acro check let me hop over them?
My dogs are currently in Attack mode, but I haven't given them a specific next target, they might attack the next nearest target, or they might follow me and attack my target, or ones nearby. How would you like me to determine their targets when I don't give them specific instructions other than "attack"?

DM Haldhin |

Two 3rd level mage kobolds, geez that's a bit much. Btw from the map it looks like the kobolds do not have line of sight on Arumil or Arianna. Magic Missile does not work if you can not see the target. In fact based on their placement none of them around the campfire have line of sight. From what I see it would take both sides two move actions just to get line of sight on the other.
You have 6 powerful and fully rested characters, with plenty of healing, along with two dogs and an allied worg. In the first round, your group took out half of the opposition. I'm thinking "a bit light" at this point! :)
It's just trees and fallen logs, so nothing to obscure vision. Since the kobolds stood up, they can see everyone (and you can clearly see them).
-----
@ Raxus:
Correct, just trees, no undergrowth. The boards are platforms high up in the trees and do not block anything. Fallen logs are pretty big so they block straight charges, but I'll let Acro checks allow you to charge "through" them. Failing the check interrupts the charge, but you can continue the movement.
Generally speaking, I'm going to say your dogs will do their best to stay by your side and follow your orders (in this case, "Attack") until you give them another order.
So in our current combat situation, I think you're correct - if Raxus charges, the dogs are going to follow him and attack any enemies they perceive (and can reach) when they finish moving - but I'm thinking they will stop beside Raxus, they won't continue their charges/moves beyond his position. Target selection should be done starting with those enemies closest to you, then moving away from your location. Does that make sense/seem fair?

Arumil Amaim |

Just had an idea, why not have Arianna create a silent image of another jub jub bird. While have Arumil cast a ghost sound of a jub jub bird. That should confuse it long enough not to pay attention and make good on our escape. Sense silent image has a longer range and duration we could get pretty far before it figures it out. >:)
Yes, no, maybe?
