Background:
Born to a farmer couple in southern Brevoy, it was immediately obvious that Temerith was not a normal child. Though small, his horns and tail were present even then, leading to his family being ostracized for supposed cavorting with demons. His parents were gentle, quiet folk, and instilled the morals of goodness in the young boy, despite the jeers and prejudice of the community. With only his parents as his companions, the tiefling child found himself losing himself in farm work to fill the light hours of the day. Growing strong, tough and agile at a nearly ridiculous rate, and reaching his full adult size and build shortly before his fourteenth birthday, Temerith stood out like a sore thumb. Already taller and stronger than his father, he took care of all the planting and some of the maintenance. This was more out of necessity than convenience, however, as most of the farm's animals would not come close to Temerith, seemingly aware that he was definitely not a normal human boy. There was nowhere, even in his own home, where the boy was not keenly aware that he was different, monstrous, inhuman, even if his parents taught him of love, hope and equality.
Temerith was twenty-two when he first began to travel away from the farm to attempt to find others of his kind, for companionship that he has so long been denied. It was a few months after this first voyage into the cities of Brevoy when he stumbled upon a traveling tiefling paladin of Ragathiel. Astonished at the way the horned man held himself with grace and poise, even while being glared at, shouted at and snubbed by others, Temerith approached the man and begged to know his secret. "I am a Knight of the Lord of Chivalry," the other man had said, "The words of those I protect, the jeers of those I fight, the hatreds of those I stand for and against mean little to me. Even my Lord, Ragathiel himself, was of a union of flame and evil, but he rose to guard the first level of Heaven. I, too, may have a demon in my bloodline, but I am the sword of all that is good and just. I stand before you not as a demonspawn, but as a faithful paladin of Ragathiel." So moved by the paladin's words, Temerith began to correspond with the older tiefling, and began practicing with a rusty bastard sword his father bought for him. Receiving a series of parchments containing the tenets of faith for Ragathiel's faithful, the still-young tiefling became a devout follower quickly, even though it did not sit well with his not-specifically-religious parents. He spent the next few years training with the blade and attempting to reach a better understanding of his faith, and his existence. However, when he was twenty-eight, bandits attacked his family's farm while he was away on one of his voyages. Murdering both of his parents, slaughtering all their livestock and stealing any produce they could carry, the bandits left nearly nothing of the home Temerith had ventured from. Returning to smoke, decay and desolation, the tiefling was overcome with righteous anger, his screams and roars rending the night. In this moment of rage, Temerith swore vengeance upon those who had slain his family and destroyed his home. Returning to the battered farmhouse, the man gathered all the belongings that still remained, finding a pristine red leather coat hidden away. Wrapping himself in it, he fell into fitful dreams. On that night, Temerith met the empyreal lord of Vengeance and Duty, Ragathiel, in a dream. Told that if he wished for the strength to carry out his vengeance, he would be welcomed into Ragathiel's service. Swearing himself to the empyreal lord's service on the spot, the young tiefling woke in a cold sweat, knowledge of the location an unofficial temple of Ragathiel clear and fresh in his mind. Stuffing all the belongings he had salvaged from the husk of former home into a backpack, he set out to the small church clad in his father's coat. There Temerith became an Inquisitor, working to mete out vengeance and do battle in Ragathiel's name. Now, over forty years since entering the employ of the church of Honor and Chivalry, Temerith is one of their best and most experienced soldiers, wielding both blade and magic to do what must be done. With the call of Brevic society demanding heroes to conquer and settle the Stolen Lands, the Inquisitor travels forth to do his deity's will, and possibly earn the regard of those who still see him as nothing but the child of Hell. Kingmaker AP:
Temerith received a charter via his Church pulling in favors, and he hopes to spread the faith of Ragathiel in the Stolen Lands, a notoriously prickly and chaotic region.
In his years of service, he has spent some time trying to figure out the identities of the bandits who killed his parents. Several years ago, he came across the name of a group who preyed upon people around where his family's farm was located. They were called "The Black Stags" and wore black leather helms with face guards resembling that of a stag. They seem to have been a short-lived gang, however, as only a few of the older locals had even heard the name. In addition to his religions duties, Temerith has heard rumors of a powerful bandit chief in the Stolen Lands also using stag imagery. Simply coincidence, or something more? Either way, Temerith accepted the Charter, and was asked to journey to Restov to meet his contact, Sandra Allemede. Sandra informed him that another group left for the area a week ago, but new information indicates the bandits are even more active than originally thought. He is to accompany three other individuals to Oleg's Trading Post and provide whatever aid is required to pacify the area. Physical Description:
Tall and well-built, Temerith stands roughly six feet tall, weighing about 180 pounds. Strong and tough, the tiefling appears far younger than he actually is, looking much like a human man in his mid-twenties, save for his obvious devilish features. His heritage shows in a pair of red horns sprouting from his forehead, bright red eyes and hair, scaly red skin on his forearms and feet, as well as a prehensile tail. There is also a cloying smell of brimstone that follows him wherever he goes.
Temerith is rarely to be found without his hooded red leather coat, usually worn over a simple cured leather adventurer's outfit. When clad for battle, he wears the coat over his armor. Except for in the grip of combat or when attempting to interrogate others, the hood is usually pulled up in an attempt to cover his horns, hair and eyes. Personality:
Though he is stern and overpowering in his work, Temerith is generally calm and sage in his normal life. However, years of bullying, ostracism and being treated as a monster have left him socially reclusive and very cerebral. He speaks rather rarely, and when he does speak, it is short, clipped and directly to-the-point.
Temerith is exceedingly blunt and has problems associating with others. Though he has the best intentions, his highly monstrous features and lack of positive experience with social situations prevent him from interacting well with others, especially in public situations. Wish List:
