The great advantage to using Paizo is that I can copy Meg's posts for directions on how to do stuff(citing them, of course):
Check in Regularly
*Consensus seems to be at least 3-4 times per week.
*Try to check in more often if we’re in combat, to keep things moving.
*If you’re going to be away for a few days, let me know, and I’ll run you as an NPC until you get back.
Exposition is King
Please elaborate freely about all the whys and wherefores of your character.
Things your character SAYS should be in BOLD
{b}Watch out for that tree!{/b}
Things your character thinks should be in Italics
As follows:
{i}How did I get myself into this mess?{/i}
Out of character things should be done like so… it will appear as blue text.*
{ooc}Do I get to add my dexterity bonus to that? I have the weapon finesse feat. {/ooc}
•If its a longer post or not relevant to the current action— You can also use the Discussion Page instead. ie…“I just wanted to let you guys know I’ll be on vacation next week. Could you run my character? In the following situations she’ll do this…”
Dice Rolling
{dice}1d20+3{/dice} or {dice}3d6+1{/dice} or {dice}1d20, 1d4{/dice}
Spoilers (Things you hide so not everyone can read or to save room.)
{spoiler=Perception Check 20}There’s a glint of gold under a loose board{/spoiler}
Your character would then need to make a 20 perception roll to be allowed to read the spoiler. Honor System.
There are a number of other features at the bottom of Paizo’s board, under a button marked “Show”.

Valsera |

Here's Daniel checking in. I'm leaning toward a human warrior. Hasbrouck used to be a happy warrior, and avid participant in the town militia. He left the militia and has taken to solitary hunting in the hills.
Hasbrouck has been grappling with 'strange feelings' surrounding his service in the militia. He really loves the militia, and all things marshal. So he's grappling on the one hand with the guilt and shame evoked by his 'special feelings'. At the same time, he's feeling isolated and depressed because he can't participate in his favorite activity - his calling. Hasbrouck has been a very grumpy and moody jock for the last several months.

OK, folks - I've set up a bunch of information in a folder in google docs. You should have received e-mail with a link. If you cannot access it, let me know & I'll see what else I can come up with. The files are set up so that you can comment, but not edit. I figure that commenting allows all of you to make notes such as your relationship with various NPCs.
So far it includes the file I sent as e-mail today and another one that gives information on some of the important people. I will add to this one once I have more information on your characters so that I can add some of their friends and family.
I think that any replies you post to the google docs will go to my frequently unchecked gmail account, so if there are things that I need to respond to, post here or send to my regular verizon account.

OK, folks - I've set up a bunch of information in a folder in google docs.
Meg reminded me that by using [spoiler] I can keep the campaign page uncluttered, yet have all the information. I've put all the stuff there. I'm leaving the Google doc, though - I still think that having a place you can consolidate comments on NPCs is a good thing. You don't have to use it, but it's there.

Gilraen D. Cirala |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

OK - here's what it looks like we've got going so far:
Meg (not my daughter, my friend who will be participating mostly in the on-line stuff since she lives in NY) - elementalist
Karen - swordmaster
Roni - weaponsmith
Daniel (never one to shirk from a challenge and who changed his mind after he saw the dearth of casters) - nethermancer
Rachel - warrior or swordmaster
We could use a scout or an archer for longer range combat abilities.

Xyanna |

Heya, it's Karen
I'd be happy to switch to scout for ranged capabilities. Or archer, for that matter. I played an archer before, and really enjoyed it. With my goldfish-like memory, it'd be like brand new.
Just let me know.
Any character will definitely be named Xyanna =D

Gilraen D. Cirala |

Once everyone has their characters basically done, either post them up here (if you can figure out how), or make an appointment to sit down with me. There are some tweaks that may affect you.
Also, I figured out one of the advantages of the googledocs - I can post maps! I've got a broad overview of the valley up. It's approximately 25 sq. miles.
Once I get Dundjinni up and going again (long story - but one of the morals is "don't forget your name"), I'll be making several others.

Maizi |

I'm thinking Maizi might be Dubois' daughter.
She discovered her "special feelings" when forced to work long hours on the farm. She was able to subtly influence plants and weather. Although she doesn't dare tell her father about this, in terror of the possible repercussions. So she spends more and more time alone amongst the plants and wind and weather.

Kiranov |

Hey, this is Kevin. Trying my first post at paizo.
I am working on a scout character and I've got most of the details worked out. Next I just need to figure out second step and then I'll upload.

Gilraen D. Cirala |

Hey, this is Kevin. Next I just need to figure out second step and then I'll upload.
I'm free this evening if you want me to swing by.
And, not just for Kevin but for all of y'all, I'm crazy busy on Saturday (district gymnastics meet), but if anyone wants to come over Sunday and do/learn stuff, I'm here.

Grayson Dickerson |

Hey, I'm Grayson Dickerson (Alisa). This is my first post. I'll have to chose an avatar image that I like. Have yet to set my character stats.
Okay, I found one. Not quite what I would have chosen. That's what I looked like when I saw my parens fall. I'm really a cheerful person most of the time. You'll see.

Evaine Cirala |

If y'all could do me a favor & post your characters on here the same way either Gilraen or Valsera is done (if you click on the name, it will take you to the profile. When you log in to yours, you'll put most of the information into the "about" box.
When I figure out what I want there, I'll tell you what to add next to your gender so it will show up across the top (the way Gilraen's does).
Also, if I haven't yet, I'll be e-mailing you about changes and suggestions, but a few general things - no one gets karma ritual, no one gets any equipment not applicable to their profession (so no armor for non-town guards, no tents or traveling stuff unless you are a hunter, etc).

Grayson Dickerson |

Grayson Dickerson likes to go about in disguise. It's how he can go into places that he shouldn't, especially when he was a boy. His father and mother worried that someone would find out.
"You must practice your juggling, Dick my boy," my father would say. "If someone finds out you have been going around in disguise, they may get the wrong idea."
"I just want to have some adventure," I said. "Besides, if I don't study people, I can't improve on my acting."
"We are performers and acrobats first," Mother would say. "We are here to please the crowd and to make our fortune."
"I don't know," I frown.
"Do not scoff at your mother. She knows what is best. Now, let's go practice."
"Okay Father. Just let me put alway my things and I'll get changed."
It's hard to be a troubadour when you always see the same faces day after day. I wish . . . A fat lot of good that will do. Sorry, Grayson, you're stuck here. Just don't let your Mom and Dad hear that. 'They'll really be mad at you for that. Be glad you have a place they would say. They're gone now, and . . . and I can't take back my words, even if they were within my own head. Poppa, Mamma, I'm sorry.

Grayson Dickerson |

Don't mind me, I'm only reliving memories. My parents have been gone now for a five years. It's hard to make a living when the rest of your troop is missing. Had to find work on my own, there just isn't a whole lot of it in a small community. And when you have to hide what you are, that's even harder. Now I heard someone was going to be married soon. I wonder if they need a juggler for entertainment. I could impress them by mimicking voices. I've been practicing.

Grayson Dickerson |

You have to add the stats in the gender field. It doesn't look like it will fit, but it will. Using a slash as a divider and abbreviating the information will keep it on one line. Such as STR for Strength. the tighter the spacing the more you can get on a single line. It takes a few tries and previews to see what works.
I wish I could have the damage up on there, because the UNCon. Rate and Wound Threshold could be pretty important to know. But you can't have everything, so it's important to decide which information is important for the GM. Looking at the example helped.

Grayson Dickerson |

Oh what also makes a difference, how wide you have your browser window open. If you have a very large screen 22 inches or more) you can have the browser window going across your whole screen and then the stats won't wrap. If you don't have a very large monitor, the stats will appear to wrap. I don't think people realize that.
Try that. You'll be surprised how that works.

Evaine Cirala |

OK, here are the requests for the line on gender (insert appropriate numbers next to abbreviations) RT stands for recovery test - just the step.
Using the | instead of / gives you significantly more space. That should leave enough room that if I decide I want a certain talent stuck at the end, there'll be room.
Gender Race Discipline |S|D|T|P|W|C| Def- PH-SP-SOC | Uncon-Death-Wound|RT-

Xyanna |

Let me know if this looks ok.
Made some stat changes to my character sheet, should be reflected properly in the profile and uploaded it to dropbox as "Xyanna ver2". Lori, can you rename it just Xyanna and delete the other one, please?
I have a skill point still to spend as well. Still debating, but shouldn't even matter for a long time. I'm thinking some sort of local knowledge gleaned from the tavern

Evaine Cirala |

And testing to see how the information looks.
Edit- not showing, but it's time for dinner. Will look at this again later.
You are still posting as Javadruid. At the bottom of the box where you are typing your post is a drop down menu that says "Post As" - swap it to Eriene. I have that issue a lot - which is why some of my posts are as Gilraen (who is my character in Meg's game) and some as Evaine (who is the DM and an NPC in this game).

Evaine Cirala |

Impatience abounds. I went ahead and posted the opening. You have until the wee hours of Tuesday to do stuff before we go ahead. You can post as spoiler if you want, but it's not necessary - I did that mostly because of space considerations. I'm going on the "you guys are smart enough to figure out that you aren't present when two other people are talking unless you've been told you are" premise.
If you have mechanics or general discussion questions, post them here - "game play" should be just that.

Valsera |

For example:
Valsera is wondering if Delamatar might be afflicted by a dwarven disease..
Lore: Dwarves: 2d6 + 1d6 ⇒ (6, 1) + (3) = 10
Valsera buckles in and knocks out the last of the garments for tomorrow's order.
Tailor: 1d12 ⇒ 7
previewing
conveniently, on of my lore die max'd, so I add another die, and preview again
now that no more of my dice have max'd, I hit 'post'!

Grayson Dickerson |

GM, Do I weave a good enough story along with my juggling to earn enough coinage to repair my shoes. I figured since Grayson isn't wealthy by far, he can't aways afford new clothes or new shoes. He's got to share what he earns. Give me an idea os to how much he will need to split and whether it will be enough to get new shoes for him. He's going to need them. It's winter after all.

Evaine Cirala |

Kevin had a question about how much action to post at a shot that I should probably go ahead and post here. I would say that you should post actions up until what looks like will be the next major event (in this case, the following evening) - if you are wrong and something happens in between that makes that impossible, we'll figure it out. I will also try to make certain I leave you with a moderately clear idea of the next major event might be.
Grayson: The next morning you take your earnings to the cobbler and negotiate for some better shoes, you still owe her a little bit, but she says you can pay her back over the next couple of days.
Dwee: I'm going on the presumption you just wanted to catch your breath and not that you had a specific plan of action - if I'm wrong, let me know.

Quick dice tutorial:
Let's say you need to roll a d4+d8 - type the following, removing spaces between brackets and the stuff in it:
[ dice ] d4+d8 [ /dice ]
which would look like this when you preview:
1d4 + 1d8 ⇒ (2) + (3) = 5
The advantage to previewing is that you can see your roll and add more to your posted based on the roll because it won't change when you post it! It also means (as Valsera pointed out earlier) that you can just put any exploding dice back into your formula and re-preview.

Xyanna |

Daniel, how did you get the target number to show up in your dice roll? (only spoiler I've peeked at, I swear)
Also, small world! I've never played Pathfinder or used the site til this game. Yesterday a friend shared this link about his brother, John, (after remarking a couple weeks ago that his bro got an uber cool nerd job that he wasn't allowed to talk too much about):

That's great, but I have a more basic question: which dice do I use for each attribute? I have played a total of about 3 hours of earth dawn in my life. I undstand what exploding dice are, no problem-I played white wolf. I just need matching numbers and stats. I hate reading gaming books. Sorry if this is redundant.

Tried to create bolded text, but it didn't work. Will have to discover the trick. Otherwise I may use Quotes. I'm a better story teller with quotes than with bolded text.
