OI, I REALLY need to actually read my Dresden Files game books.
I've perused them, but not ever actually read the whole things.

Danny might actually be something if I had read the books BEFORE building him! :)

Although, I'd like to pretend that he's not too bad. I mean he wasn't built to be the powerhouse. He was built to be the mouth!
(And that he's got) ;)

Interested in seeing what you come up with Treppa. (I'm the guy that likes making PC's, but hates making choices. PF and D&D 3.x feats give me hours of fun,... and mental torture.) :P

Sal won't be much different from before. Rebuilds are limited, and character changes take time. She'll have a couple of true believer powers and a Conviction skill that finally registers, but she won't have Kenneth's impressive array of objects and powers, which makes sense. Kenneth has spent a lot more time as the servant of a higher being and has developed significant power. Sal is just finding out that, if the monsters in the closet and under the bed are real, so are the beliefs of her childhood. This newness is reflected in her more limited powers and weaker conviction. I'm not planning on the sponsored magic route for her; I like the idea that the four TB powers and a high Conviction (eventually) will let her function in a more ad hoc fashion, without damaging her current fighter build. I also like the "God works in mysterious ways" aspect of skipping the rote magic route.

I'm seriously considering Tilnar's advice about taking only the two base powers this chapter and leaving myself a couple of FP's leeway, just in case.

I've been reading and rereading the DF RPG basics manual for this. I think it would be a lot easier to learn a new system at the table, with everyone gathered around and talking about things, than in a pbp. Danny's build seems fine to me, but I do know what you mean. I'd dearly love to start over with Sal's build and aspects, knowing what I know now about the system. (Plus I could skip that stupid blunder of using her real name when she's supposed to be a fugitive - I *headdesk* every day about that.) But I do love the organic growth built into this system.

Can we assume we all have each others' cell phone numbers?

Treppa wrote:

Oh I seriously hope we can assume that.

:/

I mean, I've been PREsuming that for a while now. :)
(Ergo all of Danny's et al's convenient phone calls at mysteriously opportune moments.) ;P

Yeah I need to look at what/where I'm going with Danny. Eventually.
Never really thought about the long term.
(Let's face it, Most Pbp's don't last long enough to worry about it.) :)

Good. Much as I enjoy role-playing, spending a day's (or week's) posts on "give me all your numbers so I can phone ya" posts, especially with new guys coming in, seems a waste of precious time. If we're coordinating action at a distance, we're gonna need contact info, including NPC contacts. Residences, OTOH, I have been assuming are private unless we're invited over.

Lol!
Yeah I feel ya. I'm all about the good RP'ing, but even JKR did a lot of hand-waving to fast forward the time in, like, EVERY Harry Potter book. :)

I'd say that we did exchange numbers by now as well ... It only makes sense... Though, worst case, we safely all have some contacts in common to get us the digits or pass messages as need be.

As for me, as much as I'd like to enchant more items and become more powerful, I'm saving refresh for Brigid's Bow.

While, mechanically, further refinements to Kenneth's powers would be useful, I have to think there's a limit - it's borrowed power to start with, so I have trouble with the idea of him getting more powerful.

I mean, yes, some refinements could make sense, in the whole "getting better at using the samr Power he's been given" or "blessing more items", but I can't really see his faith getting stronger -- so, in terms of having an IC reason to get a real power-up, I'd have to say the scared item (Object of Power) is the only path.

Has Kenneth's build changed much since he joined? If not, he came out of the gate loaded for bear (to mix a few metaphors).

Danny's hasn't changed worth squat since I started. Only raised a couple of Skills. :)
(In fact, I STILL need to update the online PC sheet. I know I have those update notes around here somewhere,...) :(

I think I was toying with the idea once upon a time of upgrading him to 'full fae' power. (He only has the minor illusion power) The problem is that IIRC, the book doesn't actually SAY what the 'full powered' version of the illusion power can do. (No game rules and stats for it, like with wiz powers or enchanting items)

Again, I REALLY need to read the actual rulebooks completely. :/

But I'm not really thinking that Danny is the 'I want to become more powerful' type. Or that he really wants to 'embrace his heritage' like some book characters did.
He's more the 'How do I get the most mileage out of what I've got, without becoming enslaved to the Fae forever?' kind of guy. (Ergo trying to be creative with the illusions. To the point of ridiculousness at times) :)

I mean, Harry's growth in the first few books is perfectly understandable. He's getting better at using his powers, creative in their use, and better at enchanting items to add to his arsenal.
I'm just not sure where to go with Danny.
(It might help if the boy would decide to grow up!) ;P

Yes.

Yes he did.

Hmm,.. may I make an observation? ;)

I see (looking back now) that Kenneth is in the same sort of boat as 'The Hand of God'. But while MOST of his power was from wielding the sword (object of power I guess) it was not ALL of it. Even without drawing the sword, his faith had grown so powerful, that (in the right circumstances, like the party in book 2?) simply touching him burned vamps. I'm not saying that Kenneth HAS to become more powerful, (He's certainly doing fine I think!) but there's certainly a precedent in the books for his being able to. IMHO. :)

I mean there's 'more powerful' in game terms (which most players (including me) use to mean 'I can now kick b#tt harder/faster than ever before) And there's 'more powerful' in other ways. Wiser, Faster, defenses are stronger because your faith is unshakable, able to pinpoint weakness in an enemy, so it is easier to defeat them, Inspire others to greater acts, etc. :)

I'm just thinking out loud/rambling. But you get the idea. :)

Yeah, I really need to go have a talk with Danny and see where he's going with this. ;P

Don't sell Danny short. He fills a unique niche and does it well. Sometimes folks don't realize the value of buffs from bards, clerics, and the like, but when you go back and analyze a mid- to high-level battle removing all the buffs, it's easy to see how critically important they are. In PF-ese, those +1's and +2's can make the difference between life and death. Danny has put some major-league aspects on scenes that really help out the damage-dealers.

Sal can take a turn laying down cover fire or shooting fire extinguishers to change the scene, but she's more valuable dealing damage. Danny (and Kenneth, who's simply a bada$$ at whatever he chooses to do) help her do that. She can sneak like crazy, but not down the middle of an open, well-lit corridor - unless Danny puts up a veil.

I just shoot stuff. You guys change the battlefield, which is leaps and bounds more important.

I'm looking forward to what the new guys bring to the table, as well. I really enjoy this system and have a blast playing it.

LOL,
Oh stop it, I'm blushing! ;P

Thanks, Danny is awesome, (Just ask him, he'll tell you) :) I guess my previous statements stem from the fact that he is a great deal different than my usual Blaster-caster Wiz Pc's.

Not being used to playing a buffer/battlefield controller type, I probably do underestimate his illusion-istic contributions. ;)

As you said, this system is great. I love how it rewards imagination over 'munchkin builds' as in our other favorite games. ;P (Imagination is one thing that Danny and I have in common) :)

+1 on can't wait to meet our new friends! :)

I am enjoying the game immensely and thanks to all for letting me be a part of it. :)

I tried to pick up some imagination on Amazon, but they were clean out.

Which reminds me, I'm 6th on the library ebook waiting list for Windlass. And I'm on Seasion 13 of Red vs Blue, so it won't be long before I start watching "Rose". If I hadn't binge-watched "House of Cards" last weekend, I'd be into Dr. Who now, but I hadn't seen all of the original and simply had to know what happened to Francis Urquhart.

Yeah, they're always out of sanity too. :/

And I'm STILL trying to figure out how:
1) you can be on the waiting list for an ELECTRONIC BOOK and
2) How they can charge you a late fee for returning late AN ITEM YOU'VE NEVER ACTUALLY HAD IN YOUR POSSESSION?!?! :/

Yeah, I'll stick to checking out the real books and DVD/CD's, thanks. I cannot wrap my head around the digital nonsense. :(

(I mean, I'd LOVE to figure out how to make money from nothing? It seems that all the libraries and online games are doing it now? You know, charge you REAL MONEY for a digital-only, In-game items that you never actually get,... really? I mean C'mon!) :P

Yeah, I have a lot of things on my Netflix list, but I can't even keep up with my TV shows, much less the Netflix shows!

But if I had won that lottery? Oh yeah baby! There would have been some SERIOUS BINGING going on! :D

Turn it around, Rags.

You're an author. You've spent a year writing a book, and everyone else has gone through the work to get it edited, laid out, copyrighted, and published, both in paper and electronically.

Then a library buys one e-copy and lends it out simultaneously to all its constituents, who all get to read it immediately and then are done. That seem fair, IP and royalty-wise?

OTOH, the library buys six copies and lends them to one person at a time, with a waiting list AND a link Amazon to buy your book. Those who have no patience and a few extra bucks can buy a copy. Those who don't have money can wait and read it in their turn. More copies sold = money to pay the folks who worked on the book AND to feed your family. There's some incentive to continue producing the product. Artists and musicians face the same problem. Don't even get me started on artist and musician friends who are asked to work for free on a regular basis.

Concerning late charges, the systems I've seen use Amazon. They take back the rights to the book immediately upon the due date. No fines. I'm not sure how you're getting gigged. And as far as in-game items - pffft. I'll buy rights to a game I can play forever (more portable that way), but no way I'm buying victory. Too damned cheap.

Oh I understand what you talking about.
I work in a College in the music building. AND I do stage-combat training myself. (When my non-existent time allows) The amount of times I get asked to 'help out' with a production, or 'give a demo' Or 'just a short class' is ridiculous. And that's not even getting started on the musicians who keep getting asked to play for free at an event.

I'm just kvetching about the digital revolution in general I guess. :/

I'm old-school. When we bought a game cartridge, it worked. (or it didn't and we traded it in for a new one that did) Don't even get me started on 'game fix updates'. Which meant they could release a game that didn't work and fix it later. :P

But I want to BUY a game, expensive or cheap, and own it. NOT pay to play every month. And having to be online to play makes me cranky. Especially when talking about tablet Apps or something. The reason I bought a game on a portable system was so I wouldn't have to be tied down to a location where there is internet! :(

Yeeeeaaaaah,..... [/rant] ;P

What were we talking about again? :)

What you did in WWI, grampa?

:P

Had a post get eaten. Laptop battery's not really lasting very long anymore (and given that it's like the third replacement, I'm thinking it may be time for a new one.. or, at least, a relatively recent refurb given that I hate Win 8...)

In terms of Kenneth's build, no, he's not really changed much -- I've only been around for one milestone, and while I did take a level of refinement (to get new magic items -- specifically the gauntlet) and bump his Lore (new rote spells, better at enchanting).

In terms of his power level, well, yes, he's good, but in a very limited way. He can do some spiffy magic, but its limited to the threefold aspect of the Flame of Kildare. I'll never be able to throw lightning, freeze water or do anything along those lines.. The threefold aspect means I'm not just a one-trick pony (like Lesser Talent) and the holy nature of the flame means I'm not totally powerless against things immune to heat, but a Wizard would still be able to wipe the floor with me.

Kenneth was (more or less) built by averaging the Emissary of Power and Champion of God together by stacking the True Believer with the Emissary template (while taking some peaks at the Faerie Court Knight as well). Basically, when DSX and I were working it out, we figured the Flame of Kildare was pretty comparable to the Seelie Magic -- but then one less refresh because it's sponsored magic. Then, as a magicky-sort, he got to enchant items and make potions (potions totally made sense from the old style bard thing, and so does the blessed/magicky sword). All in all, it worked out to something that held together, I thought.

That all said, though, it was a very, very complicated idea for a first character and I'm not sure I'd recommend it to other newbies. (I was greatly helped in getting up to speed by the Ferromancer who used to live here...)

Funnily, my copy of the Windlass arrived from Amazon today. Bought it ahead of the trip I'll be taking next month.

The library here also auto-kills electronic borrows, so there's never any late fees -- but I will echo Rags rant about the idiocy of games that need to be connected online. (Though I've also got a subscription to the PS Plus, so some of my games are "free", as long as the membership lasts). What I hate in terms of mobile games are the ones with in game purchases (where they're not optional so much as the only way to win/compete).

If you use Chrome, Tilnar, I heartily recommend the Lazarus extension. I can't count the number of posts it's saved when Bad Things Happened.

And yeah, I hate being online for standalone games, too. But I do like having them purchased and stored electronically. Same with books. I move enough that I don't want to haul around twenty-five boxes of paper and binding anymore. I badly miss being able to hop around in electronic books. With paper, I generally remember exactly where certain important or striking passages are and can flip to them for rereads. But scrolling through ebooks? Ugh. Fuhgeddaboudit.

Back to accounting for plant assets, natural resources, intangibles, and prompting an 8yo to do her homework.

That would be righteousness/holy touch -- which isn't a bad way to go, Kenneth's certainly got faith (though it's -3 refresh to get there -- so... ouch) -- but at the same time, he's actively drawing on the power of his faith when he channels the Flame of Kildare -- so his touch already does that... kinda.

And, yes, "better" (if it's not about gaining actual power) for Kenneth would be more refinements -- especially in terms of getting new enchanted items -- better armour, for instance, and/or new rote spells. Which is a path I can walk down -- the gauntlet, for instance, is exactly that. But, then, repeated refinement is basically just doing what you already do incrementally better.... and, now that we've lost Axe and Tangris, I'm the closest thing to a heavy we have -- and I'm far less good at sheer kickage-of-rump than they were.

And, in terms of heavy bottom-kicking -- getting stronger, tougher, faster -- as I said, I can't (IC) justify him getting to Supernatural Recovery without having an Object of Power to anchor him to it. (I suppose his faith could get stronger to unlock more power, but at the same time, it strikes me as weird that Brigid wouldn't give her champion all she could -- or, at least, all he could handle).

Plus, really, Brigid's bow is, in fact a holy artifact, so it would make sense that Kenneth would be searching for it to "complete" his potential.

@Treppa- Yes, I agree. I do love me some GOG games, (Particularly since they have started adding the early SSI box D&D games that I loved so much!) ;P And I admit I do like the fact that if m,y PC's die, (all of them, together,) I can still go to GOG and download them again.
But I like the games where you can hit the pause button, think, plan, and then go and kick Stormtrooper, or orc, or draconian behind! And all on your own, with no internet, or other players ticking you off. :)

Treppa wrote:

Hey, let me know how that goes! And what you secret is to getting it to happen! Cuz I got me a 12 & 16 yr old that need a serious wake-up call about their grades! ;P (Actually my 12 yr old son is doing well. It's my Daughters math and Spanish that are in desperate need of a resurrection spell!) ;/

@Tilnar- See? THIS is what I mean, I seriously need to go back and read the ENTIRE game books! I understood what you were saying, but have NO idea how you got there or what the books say about it. :P

Ok, so I missed the part where you are hunting for the ACTUAL Brigid's Bow, I just thought that was your ranged attack spell? But if your hunting for the actual artifact?!? Well now, THAT would be a end-of-Harry Potter- 1st-movie Sorcerer's Stone level of epic finding things! More than good for a few bonus refresh or power points into something on the level up! ;)

If anyone has any idea/thoughts/suggestions on Danny for level up (current or future) from a game/rules standpoint, I'd love to hear them! As far as his CHARACTER growth, I'm gonna run that by ear. It seems to be working so far. And perhaps adding in a little tiny bit of 'bad choices' might make for an interesting bit of character development along the way? :) But as I mentioned, I just don't know the book/rules enough to even have an idea where to go with him, much less how to get there before I even have to worry about the IC stuff. :/

I love threads like this. It just makes me happy chatting the breeze about books, characters and whatever else. Reminds me of my college gaming buddies. :)

Rags: Teaching/Learning:

If you hop onto this free class quickly, you can catch up and get it all in before the session closes on 2/7. It's not difficult by any means and doesn't take long. I find it extremely handy and bought a timer today to start the Pomodoro method for myself, because my middle name is Procrastination.

As for grades, I've been with these kids about 2-3 months now, long enough to know the 8yo is motivated by looking smart. Not too smart (she tones it down in front of her friends), but she hates not knowing answers. I wheedle with that. I also review her work and see what she's consistently missing, create a few exercises for that topic, and grab her attention for 3 minutes to explain, then do the exercises. This is a nightly thing, so she gets skill practice. So what motivates your daughter?

Then there's method. What kind of learner is she? Is the subject presented in accordance with her preferred learning style? If not, can you find something that is to supplement the class materials so she's exposed to more presentation methods?

And - let me channel my father for a moment - math is a skill. It can't be learned in one shot but must be practiced daily and mastered before moving on to the next skill level. Like music. So, if she's already behind, it's going to be damned hard for her to catch up unless she's willing to sit and work on skill mastery. Every. Night. The techniques in that class I linked to can help with maximizing effectiveness of skill study time so it won't be so onerous.

And last but not least, all adolescents are insane (girls, at least (take it from me)). So if there is something about the class or people or teacher that has upset her, it might be sufficient to get her to throw the class completely, just to show them. Or if she has a crush on somebody who's not doing so well in that class, she might get low grades so as not to embarass the crush. Example: my high school calc teacher always gave his students nicknames. He decided to call me "Tinkerbell." I hated him so much for that, I couldn't stand to be around him. So even though I had started teaching myself calc in 7th grade (until my father put a stop to it), I darn near flunked. Because of pique. Can't be helped. It'll get better when she hits 30 or so.

And yes, my old HS classmates still call me "Tink". >_<

I can certainly see Kenneth seeking Brigid's Bow for the perfection of his service to her, and the quest for it should be something, indeed!

And I do hope at least one of the new guys is a butt-kicking baddie. Right now, we have one Good, one Fair, and one Average Weapons skill, and one Fair at Fists. Sal's +5 at Guns is the best offensive skill we have -- but not everything can be harmed by bullets. I'm not quite sure how offensive magic works, to be honest. But yeah, we could use some punching power. I'm amused to find that Danny is our best bet in a bar brawl. :) Maybe if you're allowed a skill switch, put Fists higher and add to it, then wade in like Jackie Chan! You have the backstory for it.

I'm not sure how to help Sal's defense. Seems like she's always getting injured and sucking up the party's healing (though I am thinking of that like Pathfinder, which may not be valid). The way Fate works, she's pretty good against guns because she's good with them (>_>) and I do have that Kevlar vest. Maybe body armor or something. Hmmm.

Yes a quest like Kenneth's could turn epic on us. (For better OR worse!)
:)
Maybe Kenneth needs it to return to her before he can ever retire? (Maybe that's always the 'ultimate test' of Brigid's servants? She always hides it and the next one has to find it?) OR maybe it is lost, and SHE needs it returned for some Powers-only-knows reason? So as we progress, she gets more and more insistent about his spending time looking for it, which of course would conflict with the Scary-BBEG of the day?

Of course, It entirely probably that Tilnar already has all of this worked out. And I'm just confusing him! ;P

Again, I need to read up on the system rules to advise, but upgrading Sal's kevlar to body armor seems to fit in game from a book perspective. The Knight of the Cross (Blanking on his name) had homemade armor. IIRC it was a combination of layers including Chain mail (Made of Titanium rings), Ceramic Strike plates, kevlar, & I don't remember what else. Basically had a layer for EVERYthing that might hit him! Knives, bullets, swords, fists, etc. :)

Maybe upgrading a little more each 'level up', as we meet and learn more about each baddie we go against? A little better protection each time?

Hey, if SAL ends up with a set of Magic/Powered armor, Danny will be VERY upset if he doesn't get one too! ;P

Wait, I haven't explored everyone else's PC sheet, Danny is really our best bet in a bar brawl??!? (Sans powers & guns?) Really? That's so funny that it frightens me. :)

Sal: Re: the Teaching

Spoiler:

I'll try to check out the class, thanks. You'd think we'd be OK as my wife IS a teacher and all. ;) But when it's your own kids, it's just not quite the same.

What motivates my daughter? Doing theater musicals and hanging with her friends at those classes & rehearsals. Seriously, right now my biggest 'stick' is the threat that if her grades drop too low, she will NOT be doing the next show. About time to put my money where my mouth is. :/

My 16 yr old girls problem? She has convinced herself that she is no good at math, and that she hates math because it's hard, and that she is not smart. But only in the classes that she does not like. :) Same with Spanish. She does the work, and swears that she is trying to do it all correctly, but when the homework is graded it is an F. So Obviously she is NOT getting it. And I'm not good enough at math (and I've never taken spanish) so I'm no help at all when trying to figure out where she's messing up.

OK, my Wife could probably figure out the math. She teaches lower level kids, so she's never taught Geometry, but she's just really good at basic math, and could likely figure it out. But our daughter does not WANT the help, and fights us when we try to assist her.

AND Spanish, she simply does not like the teacher. (In her defense, the teacher seems to be arbitrarily difficult) She calls her teacher 'The Chihuahua' (And again, to my dismay, I'm not helping her get past that because I AGREE. I've met the woman for a parent conference. She is a skinny little lady who talks really fast and high pitched just like a Chihuahua! I swear!) :)
So yeah, That's probably the majority of the problem with that class. But she'll just have to get over it. And I'm sure she will. Eventually.

Whether that will be BEFORE or AFTER Summer School, is yet to be determined. :/

Thanks for the tips above! I appreciate it. And it's nice to remember that, just like being a teenager was, this parenting stuff? others are going through it too! :)

Rags: teaching/learning:

"When it's your own kids, it's not quite the same." Yep, which is why I'm there. When Mom tries to teach the kids, she gets mad, they get mad, it ends badly. I don't have to deal with them all day (only 1/3 of it), so I am more patient. I know tutors can get pricey, but maybe you can find one that is willing to trade services. I do that in my other job.

F's in homework and that attitude together? I'm not sure how you pull that together, particularly if you can't help on the subject matter. Is there another section with another teacher? A community college that has a beginning geometry section? I think geo/trig is a heck of a lot of fun, so am no help there. I was bad at math, too, which is why I got my degree in it. That tells you something about attitude. Mine was "F~#@ math, I'm gonna master this b~+$#!" Maybe there's a free online course you could BOTH take together to learn the basics?

And I'm not Sal! I'm Treppa! :P

Treppa:

Spoiler:

LOL

Sal/Treppa,... same thing right?!? ;)

Oh wait, Treppa is the one WITHOUT the guns! (That I know of) ;)

Fortunately my wife's being a teacher has helped us a lot. A LOT. But when the girl hit High School (and middle school, but less so. But I can see looking backwards that is where it started for her) is when things started going south. Again, ONLY in certain classes. The others, whether she likes them or not, she can get through. Albeit with a bit of help/warnings from us.

Funny story, My daughter decided early that she did NOT like Science. (I don't know why, I always LOVED science. Grade school through college. I wanted to be a scientist. Except for, you know, that pesky math thing again.) :P
Then she went to Space Camp. Now she LOVES the space portion of any science class, (Because after 3 trips to Space Camp she already knows all of the answers!) and can sort of enjoy the non-space portion of it. Thank you Space Camp! :)

Yes we have/are trying tutors. Some with more success than others. ;P
She gives them less grief than us, but again, some she likes, some she don't. (Guess which ones fall under the 'best recommended' category) :/

Hm, Your attitude towards Math is,... unusual, to say the least.
A GOOD attitude to have no doubt! But Rare I think. :)
(Certainly not mine)
I have heard of others having that particular attitude before, just not with math.

SO now I'm curious, May I ask what your Job(s) is/are?
Curiosity killed the wizard! :)

So you've probably mentioned this already. (more than once) But what are you going to school for? (If you've told me already, sorry. But I turn 5-0 in less than 2 weeks. I blame early onset old-timers!) ;P

PS/EDIT:

Spoiler:

Funny thing is, My daughter really is a sweetheart. (Heck, she's practically adorable when she wants something!) ;P
Everyone says so. (Really!)
As a parent I love getting the kind comments from others about how nice/sweet/kind/good with younger kids/etc my daughter is.

But, she DID inherit her dad's stubbornness.
(SO my wife says. I claim I don't know where she got it from, I still have all mine!) ;)
So once she has decided that something is a certain way,... convincing her otherwise is time-consuming. ;P

Sal vs Treppa:

DSX and I have joked that Sal is my "oppelganger" - she's about as different from me as I can manage. She's tiny, fierce, militant, devout, and disciplined. I'm Amazonian, mellow (unless you provoke my temper), soft-hearted, heathen, and chaotic. So no, we're nothing alike, unless you count stubbornness. And ADHD. And being from Chicago.

Stopping now. Undermining my own point.

CV:

I started studying Physics in college, but it requires a heck of a lot of calc. I am (as women tend to be) more an algebrist and geometer, so that didn't work. Switched to math with comp sci minor. Everybody is baffled that I didn't go for music, but I love that too much to contaminate it with pressure and money.

I started out repairing mainframe peripherals, morphed into academic programming support (installing research software for profs, writing student-facing apps and documentation), then systems programming, then supervision, then management, then senior management, then temper + politics + boobs = badness. Started on an MFA in Creative Writing, but a friend decided to open a store and I decided to go in it with her. We started a little luxury boutique as the economy started its uptick in 2008 and opened in June of that year - the same month the government decided not to back Lehman and let it collapse. We switched to commodity products, but Amazon ate our lunch.

So now I'm bunking with a friend (lost everything to bankruptcy) and started picking up stray work for sole proprietorships run by women. They have outstanding skills in their field, but not much business or tech acumen. I get them straightened out and any bookkeeping backlog caught up, then go into maintenance mode. That's a little spotty, so my evening/night job is taking care of the 2 kids and (now) the mom who has cancer.

I worked with a tax accountant for one client who just set me on fire. She's kind of the champion of small businesses, making sure they file taxes properly but defending them to the hilt if they are audited. So now, though they're not throwing money at me like they were in the corporate world, I have a sense of purpose and usefulness beyond "increasing shareholder value". I should finish my Master's in May of 2017 and sit for the CPA exam after. I like working with these solo flyers and want to help them succeed. Freelancer, I guess, though I have thoughts of adding workers and starting my own firm 2-3 years down the road. That needs research, though.

Soooo... that's it.

I tempt the 15yo with Starbucks.

Sal Vs Treppa:

Spoiler:

Yeah, Danny is about as far from me as I can get. (You know, good looking, popular, I never had those issues growing up) ;P And is actually based on a friend of mine. Loosely. He has morphed more into me than him lately. I need to light a fire under Danny for next chapter. ;P

CV:

Spoiler:

That is,... all very impressive. I mean that. It sounds like you've managed to do a lot more than me accomplishment-wise. And at least you have a plan for your future! You go girl! ;)
Good luck with the CPA and future business you! (NOW I know who to call if I ever get audited!) ;)

Teens:

Spoiler:

LOL! That works, She does like her treats. Especially Cane's chicken.
Unfortunately I spoil my kids already, (Maybe not, but I think so.) so my best bet to get a reaction is not to offer them more, but to start subtracting.

"Grades lower? Must be too much time on FB or texting. Give me the Ipod"

"What son? You don't want to go to the karate class that I'm paying a fortune for? (That you SWORE you were dedicated to?) OK. I'll just disconnect this Xbox, and password the PC so you can't play games."
;)

Hm,
Sorry all, I didn't mean to turn this into a Treppa-Rags Spoiler-fest!
;P

I stop now. For reals. :)

And I do hope at least one of the new guys is a butt-kicking baddie.

I actually looked up gun control laws in the Netherlands. My guy would literally have no legal means to own one. That might be different in Jorvik, but the peashooter he'd likely carry around probably wouldn't do jack.

Knowing a martial art for self-defense would make sense I guess, but against supernatural bad guys, uh...

Legal is overrated. Can he have a special license as a PI?

Tangris did very well in combat, but I think that was against mundanes. Upon further review, Kenneth's magic attack is every bit as good as Sal's guns, using Conviction to attack. Maybe something like that would work for you? Jericho's ferromancer build could be an example, too.

Well Pin's character would have available access to loads of guns & might be a good way for you guys to know him.

MWAH-HA-HAAA

Haven't really seen much of the new characters. Are they coming in cold or linking during interim?

After sitting on this concept for so long, I think I'm just being lazy about adding the finishing touches now that the time is close at hand. I sent DSX a "finished" product months ago, but I honestly can't even remember what it looks like.

I know, I'm terrible. :P

Currently headbutting my way through my aspects. I keep going for a sweeping narrative for each one, but shorter blurbs would probably be better. (Seeing how short and to the point Harry Dresden's sample sheet is just strikes me as funny.)

I think you mean 'Normal'. :)

Yeah I find creating aspects to be both fun and painful. :/

Best advice I saw was the game book itself. Pretend it's the back of a paperback. You have 2-4 sentences to sell the novel to the guy reading the back cover. :)
I also find Harry's example character sheet funny. In a good way. :)

OK, Sal using her real name has been bugging the heck out of me. If Adriana Salazer was the fake name on her papers, it would explain why she was alarmed that Charles knew it from the Americans - they already had her fake British identity. Hence her desire for a new, better, deeper identity.

Does that make sense or is it too hokey?

If it works for you, It works for me! :)

Question, can we get a list of what we can actually do for this 'update/level up/etc' like we did last time?
Before I go crazy figuring out what to do, I'd like to know what the options are!

:)

Likewise. :)

And I was able to integrate the old ID-get with Mahorfeus' backstory, so I'm a guest star in Amsterdam!

Nice! That worked out well.

Cool!
Good for both of you! :)

You guys have reached a Significant Milestone

You can do all of:

  • One additional Skill Rank (keeping the pyramid of skills)
  • Spellcasters can reconfigure their focus & enchanted items & slots
  • Plus one of the following....

  • Switch values of 2 skills;
  • Change a single stunt for another;
  • Purchase Stunts of Powers, with your existing Refresh
  • Rename 1 Aspect

Obviously Sal has had a complete rebuild - thus it doesn't matter about the stuff in blue for her.

All Consequences have gone & Stress has vanished

  • I believe Sal's rebuild has to be within the milestones, which I planned for. I'll probably redo it to be certain all is correct.

Well, I imagine that's up to the GM. ;)

Yeah, sometimes I should shut my big mouth... :)

    Why? I never do. :)

Of course that's because I'm severely deficient in the shutting-up department. :(

Oh, finished watching "Rose" tonight, and I'm kind of baffled. Is it supposed to be humor or suspense or science fiction/fantasy or camp or drama or adventure or... yes?
