Greyston turns to where he assumes Sapphire is standing only to see her fall to the floor. "We need to pull back!" He shouts as he moves to take a bomb out and as fast as he can mixes it up, hoping it doesn't blow up in his face he tosses it at the man shouting.

"How did that feel! Why not attack me? You coward of a man!" He then steps over Sapphire and searches her for the potion he gave her this morning.

Round 7 - Enemy

Greystons bomb explodes on the man's chest. He raises his hands instinctively to cover his face and is able to avoid the worst of the blast, bearing the brunt on his forearms

Regaining his composure he quickly reloads the crossbow and fires at the alchemist, though sees the bolt fly wide and thud into the wooden wall of the Lodge. He drops the weapon, realising that the wolf girl has taken cover and is about to remove the advantage he has of higher ground.

Getting to his knee he props Sapphire up uncorking the potion he then forces it down her throat. "Come on wake up we need you." He says turning to see whats happening on the stairs.

Holding his shield high to shelter Greyston as he tends to Sapphire Corum suddenly remembers the potion Elleross gave him the previous day. He reaches into his pocket with his free hand and removes the tiny vial. Breaking the seal with his thumb he quaffs the contents. A warm tingling begins in his stomach and quickly spreads through his body. His wounds itch madly as they begin closing quicker.

Feels like I'm floating on ice water, drifting...drowning!

Sapphire coughs and splutters as Greyston's potion does its work, she feels tendrils of warmth thread through her body, revitalising limbs and rapidly closing wounds.

She stares at Greyston for a moment

Thank you she says simply, before her eyes flick around taking in the scene. As she realises only a few seconds have passed, a grim understanding overcomes her. They were in bad shape, bravery was required, time to pay back everything these people had poured in to her.

Rolling quickly to her feet, her vision narrows and all she can see is the sneering face of the man on the stairs. One step follows another in rapid succession as she closes the distance to the crossbow wielder. Drawing on reserves of strength she didn't realise she possessed, she thrusts her sword forward in the first move she was ever taught, looking to run the man through.

I'm sorry to say Sapphire, you wouldn't be able to charge because this guy is at the top of the stairs firing down at you from above. You can certainly get an extra action to move up there normally and attack but without the +2 from charging your attack was a miss

Nasrin holds her ground, looking back to Corum, "When do we go bleed this monster?"

Nasrin is surprised to see Sapphire get up as quickly as she does, but does not hesitate to follow her up the stairs. "Push him off the ledge!"

Move up the stairs to N25. Still gunna use the Standard Action to go Total Defense :) even though Sapphire's action obviated mine while I was typing :p


Round 8 - Enemy

As the two vengeful women charge up the stairs to face him, the grim-faced man takes a hasty step back.

Get back, you hateful sows, else I'll turn your corpses into skellies, see how ya like that!

He steps back and draws a battered but perfectly serviceable short sword from his belt. Rather than strike at the women though, he reaches inside his furs to produce a flat metal symbol on a chain. He presents it to the warriors and as they gaze on the black, one-eyed mask, they begin to feel a tremendous headache building, like pressure behind a dam.

Greyston looks down at Elleros knowing that he has to put down this bandit, mixing up a bomb he throws it.

Seeing the bomb again explode he shouts out to the others. "Elleros is down! Someone needs to heal him."

The warrior drops his shield and pulls his bardiche from the sling on his back. He rushes up the stair to support the others. As he passes Greyston he growls. "See to him. There is red work to be done here.

Can't check the map at the moment but Corum moves up the stair to within 5' of the bandit. Hp 9/14. Fatigue 3/8

Just to confirm, there is not enough room to stand two abreast on these stairs so Nasrin and Sapphire cannot get past Corum to attack this guy

I went last though. So perhaps the order is wrong.


The order people act is just the order they post. You posted first this round but I'm fine if you want to delay until either Nasrin or Sapphire act but then you won't be able to move up to him yourself - because it is only a 5ft wide space. Essentially he is in an advantageous position because you can only come at him one at a time in melee range.

Frustrated at the narrow confines of the landing preventing her from getting to her target, Sapphire throws caution to the wind and pushes past Corum, heading straight for the evil priest. As he braces to spit her on his sword, she grabs the balcony railing and kicks off from the wall, one hand used as a pivot to vault around behind him.

This seemed like the sanest option, as ranged combat would require at least a 24 (15 missed so AC at least 16, +4 for in melee +4 for cover), no other way to get to him to attack! I'm hoping he has a low CMD :p

Sapphire will end up in N29 if this is successful, if it doesn't beat his CMB then she'll provoke an AoO and be pushed back to where she started

She wastes no time in using the momentum from her vault to spin her sword through the air and slash across his back.

Ha! You needed exactly 20 so nicely done!

Sapphire dances forward, her blade raised to the shoulder as if preparing for a horizontal slash. The bandit leader reads it and brings his shorter blade up, benefitting from speed and seeking to plunge the fat blade into her armpit to send it lancing through lungs and heart... but no! At the final moment, she leaps and kicks off the railing, the blade whistling through the air she just occupied.

He has only a moment to consider what is about to happen and certainly not enough time to voice his protest or pleads for mercy. Sapphire twists in the air like a cat and sweeps her blade down in a deadly arc that slices through the man's furs and into his exposed neck. He collapses to the ground, a fountain of blood gushing from the ragged wound.

Greyston heads over to Elleros and begins to check him over.

Desperately he trys to stop the bleeding, he shouts out to the others. "Does anyone have anything to stop the bleeding? Check him for a healing potion of something!"

As he advances Sapphire moves past him in a blur. He watches with admiration as she vaults and spins past their foe, completing her deadly manoeuvre by slashing her blade across the man's spine. Blood fountains and he falls at her feet dead. Corum nods at Sapphire in respectfor her prowess.

"Nice move lady. He ddidn't see that coming. Neither did I."

Needed a 20?! The forum dice gods did indeed smile this time then :D

Sapphire's skill at first aid being no better than Greyston's, she decides not to inflict her 'help' on the unconscious Elleross. Instead she swiftly bends to the quickly cooling body in front of her. Dispassionately she sifts through the pockets and pouches, desperately searching for something that might help the ailing wizard.

Corum rushrs down the stair and though not skilled as a healer he has stitched his own wounds before. He stoops next to the prone elf and tears a strip of cloth off a curtain and attempts to bind his wounds.

Unsure of what todo Greyston begins to search the dead bandits for anything to heal seller is up. He's stable? These bandits must have had something to heal check them for potions.

Just to reiterate..

A large table runs the length of this hall, and a twenty-foot high vaulted ceiling rises into the rafters overhead. To the west, a roaring fireplace provides a welcome heat and light while to the south, a flight of stairs ascends to a wooden balcony overlooking the room. A set of double doors stands on the wall to the east.

If his wounds aren't so severe then maybe propping him by the fire for a few minutes might help rouse him?

Sapphire spends a moment scrutinising the collected gear.

She then recalls the cook... she moves over to the room they last saw the half-orc, weapon ready just in case.


Sapphire heads back into the kitchen, wary of any potential ambush. Her fears are allayed however when she sees the half orc female slumped against the kitchen counter, blood pooling beneath her.

She breath is short and ragged and even at a glance you can see she is moments away from death.

Sapphire find a kitchen cloth and wads it up, jamming it in to the largest looking wound to try and stem the flow, though it appears to have little effect.

Quick! This one is bleeding out, maybe she can tell us something of the rest of this place if we can save her!

Just for the record Sapphire will always tell the party the details of any discovered items as soon as appropriate to do so. It's easier for me to say that here as a blanket statement than try and remember each time I roll Spellcraft to say 'I tell the party'! :D

Corum looks up at the others as he clumsily binds Elleross' wounds. "He's going to be ok I think but it might take a while for him to come around. How is Thorn Nasrin?"

He lifts the magician and lays him on one of the couches. After a while he checks hisnown wounds and finds they are closed. His weariness has passed too so He collects his weapons and moves to the double doors. "We should secure the rest of this place before we relax. I'll check through here then we make sure there are no more bandits upstairs. "

He draws his sword and carefully tries to open the door.


Corum approaches the double doors to the east. As he passes the internal wall separating the trophy room from the rest of this area he feels a welcome warmth at his back from the large open fireplace to the west.

He reaches the doors and realises it is the entrance they first tried upon encountering the place. The heavy oak doors are barred and, though he glances out of the window and sees no other bandits approaching, he decides to leave it in place.

Quick note. I'm going to say Nasrin is busy tending to Thorn, Elleros is unconscious and Corum is securing the area. That means only Sapphire and Nasrin can stabilize the half-orc girl. Each of you can have a further 2 heal checks each to do so (should you choose to - she has some nice looking gear) or she will bleed out.

Other exits on this floor are the kitchen where the girl came from, three other doors to the north (let's call them A, B and C until I can redo the map) and two south (D, E) as well as the stairs up

As Sapphire calls out for heal, Greyston quickly moves over to the half orc, ripping a shirt of one of the dead bandits to use as a bandage.

Beginning to stop the bleeding but he misses a large gash on her shoulder, he quickly begins to bandage that up.

Heal: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23

He then nods to Sapphire. "That should hold, lets get her close to the fire with Elleros." Dragging her, he spots Corum checking the door. "Are we secure? We're going to have to sleep here tonight. I'll have to see if i can put some ingredients together and brew another potion i think we're going to need it."

I really hate forum dice.


As Greyston works frantically at the girls wounds, he dimly notices a travel bag resting against one of the counters. It looks full and buckled up ready to depart. It looks as if this girl were preparing to leave.

Sapphire nods in approval at Greyston's wound tending.

I didn't get a chance to say earlier, you've already picked up quite the hero habit, that's multiple times you've saved my life in the scant days I've known you. I don't know what that means but it bears mentioning!

She then examines the potions with interest.

Joining Corum in the large room with the fireplace, she grins at the warrior

I never thought I'd feel this warm again!

Rubbing her hands together she sighs

Well we really ought to clear the house. Top down sound good?

Sapphire will happily follow any plan suggested, she's tired and just wants to get it done!

The warrior nods
"Yes. The fire is good. We need to check everywhere. Top down is good but if there's anyone hiding behind these doors the others could benin trouble. Check here first then up there."

He moves to the first door and throws it open, steppi g back with his sword ready.

Door A

A single bed occupies this small room. There appears little of interest or value besides a single winter blanket that lays crumpled at the foot of the bed.

Door B

Three entrances open into this room, including the one you came through and the one that leads into the single room you just investigated. A sturdy bed heaped with blankets sits near the only window and a large maple chest sits near the window.

Ignoring the chest for now the warrior moves to the third door and opens it. He intends to sweep the entire floor to make sure there are no more enemies present.

After tending Thorn, He is bad... Nasrin follows Corum upstairs. "We have to stay here, at least over night."


Corum and Nasrin systematically search the rest of the ground floor as Sapphire and Greyston look after the stricken wizard.

Kitchen - H8

A large fireplace takes up most of the north wall of this room, it's radiant heat providing palpable relief from the cold outside. Cabinets and shelves line the remaining wall space and four windows look out on the wintery landscape surrounding the lodge.

Corner Bedroom - H9

This small room looks unclaimed by the bandits. It is dark and silent. the wardrobe contains linens but nothing else of interest.

Ten-Penny's Room - H12

A bed and chest sit across from one another in this small room. Two doors serve as exits, and a window looks out on the north side of the lodge.

Sick Room - H14

Four beds, two large chests, and a single table with four chairs occupy this room. Three windows look out to the east, west, and south, providing a grand view of the snowy gorge outside the lodge.

Upon entering this room, Nasrin and Corum immediately smell the sickly stench of fever sweat.

His eyes flutter open and the world comes rushing back in.
Groaning in agony he stares up at the ceiling above him and tries to make sense of what is going on. His whole body hurts, the muscles feel torn and tender and as he struggles to a sitting position he can feel heat on the side of his face and he looks around quickly with confusion.
He is laying on a couch , the roaring fireplace beside him, the heat a welcome feeling after the struggle through the bitter landscape to get here.
what is going on? he asks Corum and Nas I thought my heart had given out, the cold emanating from those undead things was like nothing I've ever felt. Are the others alright? Did anyone get hurt he asks as he slumps back against the couch the pain almost too much for him to think straight

The girl groans as she wakes and tries to pull herself into a sitting position. A new wave of agony flows over her so she abandons that tactic in favor of half lying, half slumping against the hearth of the fireplace.

Corum strips off his furs and hangs them where the heat of the fire will dry them. He moves across to Elleross and claps him on the shoulder. "Good to see you still with us. That was fun but we need to secure the place and get rid of these bodies. Especislly those." He indicates the corpses of the sick bandits.

He and Nasrin do the dirty work of hauling the bodies outside. They leave them in the yard for the wolves and other predators to dispose of them return to the lodge.

He looks up the stair and draws his sword. "I'm going to check up there to make sure we are alone here." He casts a distrustful glance at the cook. "Won't be long."

He walks up the stair to check the upper floor.

The girl eyes Greyston suspiciously. She hasn't got this far in life by trusting the word of strangers. But then, what choice did she have? Still, in for a penny in for ten-penny.

Meanwhile, Corum slowly climbs the stairs and steps over the pool of thick, dark blood that spreads from the man named Rokhar.

An L-shaped table with many chairs takes up most of the floor space in this loft. A second smaller table sits near the entrance, and several windows look over the snowy grounds of the lodge. In the southwest corner, a large map hangs on the wall, opposite another door in the northeast wall.

The fact that you say you prevented the rape of this poor woman you took hostage in no way assuages your guilt. You will tell us everything you know and you will do so now or you will face justice back in the town. Of course we would be within our rights to dispense our own justice and turn you out into the cold wilds with nothing but the clothing on your back . The warrior steps closer to the map and studies it for a long moment, memorising the topography and main landmarks.

He then moves to the desk and searches through it lookinh for anything of use or that will lead them to the lady or whoever is behind the strange weather.
