Description:
:Short and stocky, Corum is at first glance human. However some small hints at his mixed heritage remain. His ears have almost no lobes and are slightly pointed hinting at his elven blood. His eyes are a smoky grey and his chin is covered by a rough stubble. His brown hair is shoulder length and unkempt, sticking out in clumps and dreadlocks, matted and dirty. His movements bely a grace and power. He wears well worn gear and armour. A polearm is slung across his back. Looking like a hawk's beak attached to a 4' pole, the poleaxe looks both deadly and well maintained.

Background:
Corum was the illegitimate child of a forbidden union between his mother and an elven ranger. Born into an insular community in the Rimethirst mountains in the Crown of the World. His mother, a rare beauty, was promised to another but was in love with an outsider - and worse: an elf. She spent one night in his arms before giving in to her fate and wedding the son of the most powerful family in the village. Corum's step father was dismayed when what he took to be his first born son was obviously not human, but a half breed elf. The resentment festered and manifested in the many beatings both Corum and his mother received.
He was treated harshly as a boy, put to work from dawn until long after sundown every day after which he would eat and fall asleep to the sounds of his mother being beaten. When he was nearly 16 the beatings stopped. His stepfather finally went too far, or his mother's spirit just gave in, and she died. That was the first time Corum lost his temper, much to the dismay of his stepfather, who he beat to death with his bare hands.
He left the village that night and headed south. Suddenly free, he revelled in the feeling of being his own master. Despite the harsh environment he thrived. He hunted, fished and lived off the land, occasionally laboring or doing jobs to earn a few coins.
He lived that nomadic life for 4 years before he was taken by slavers. Bonded and sold to a southerner, he was put to work in a gem quarry. Ever a troublesome slave, fighting others and resisting his overlords, his prodigious strength and endurance made him too valuable to kill. He worked under the lash for 5 years, long outliving the average life expectancy of his fellow slaves. A year ago he escaped. He took the overlord's gear and gold from a strongbox and within a day he evaded the pursuit of his captors in the wilderness. For the last 12 months he has been a sword for hire, escorting traders and caravans. He has just finished his last job in Heldren and has come to the inn for refreshment.
