On a less snarky note, I am ambivalent. We have a great group that should have no trouble in social situations, so I don't think not having a diplomat will be a problem.
That being said, if there is another fantastic player like Baszil is alluding to, then we should totally include them in this quickly sinking ship.

Mtumbwi |

in this quickly sinking ship.
Over my dead body!

Isle of Dread |

Sorry about the near-silence on PbP for me yesterday. Busy day as it turned out (fun, but busy). I'll try to get a gameplay post in this morning.
So, looks like everyone either doesn't mind or would actually like a new player along. Let's do it then!
Bazsil, please do ask GM Euan along. Just try not to let your man-crush show through when you ask him. Also, please do point him to these options for entry into the game and the Character Creation Guidelines. I'm happy for him to come up with a way in that he prefers, but those are the easiest non-plot-breaking ways.
He'll start at level 4, and I'm happy to try inserting him as soon as he's ready.

Gado Folklo |

Sorry for my absense as well. We still have family in the house, so this might be my only chance to post today. Back to normal tomorrow for sure!
EDIT: Also, just wanted to say I loved reading the widely varied ways of trying to greet the natives. Excellent reflections of everyone's character... Also a great highlight as to why we need an ambassador. :) That was fun to read.

Hey everyone, it's me - DM Euan - at your service.
Thanks muchly for inviting me, and I'll try to live up to the standards you lot have set here. Very entertaining reading. I'm nearly caught up with what I'm supposed to know, and will post later today introducing my character.
It looks like a hell of a ride!

Isle of Dread |

Welcome on board Femi! Great first few posts, mate. Looking forward to seeing you strut your stuff on the Isle.
We are now in full swing, guys. Back to required daily postings during the week - and whatever you can over the weekend. In case you forgot (or have just joined), my 'usual' posting schedule is on my mail profile. This will last right up until the Christmas period (we'll chat about that in a few weeks).

Euphemia 'Femi' Ferka |

Yeah, the Dread tongue was missed by me, sorry. GM Damo - OK to take it now? I'll swap out another skill for a point in linguistics. I'll assume it's OK unless you tell me otherwise. Thanks!

Isle of Dread |

Ah, sorry for the confusion - you don't need to spend any points on it. You get it "for free" by listening to Aaron Donal drone on and on about the finer points of Polyglot syntax as applied to Azlanti words. Dread Tongue as you know it is spoken only, but a linguistics check (or knowing Azlanti) would perhaps help you to decipher some writing.
If you choose to learn Azlanti or Polyglot you can have two for the price of one (ie. just one rank in linguistics and you can have both). Knowing both is also sufficient to be able to speak in Dread Tongue.

Euphemia 'Femi' Ferka |

I'll do that then. Replacing some skill with the Arcane to learn the root languages Aslant and Polyglot. Thanks!

Mtumbwi |

Welcome Femi - glad not to be the new guy anymore!

Ciarán Cú Mhór-ríoghain |

Given the presence of magic, I suspect matriarchal societies are even more likely to arise on Golarion than they are on the real world.

Isle of Dread |

Just quickly, sorry for the lack of posts yesterday afternoon. I've come down with a fever and I was in bed most of the day. I'm tentatively feeling a little better today and will try to catch up this morning.

Isle of Dread |

By the way, guys, Marc (Gratum) has been on vacation. He said he'd likely post again today. Just thought I'd let you know where he was at.

Ciarán Cú Mhór-ríoghain |

"They come at night, mostly."
:)

Isle of Dread |

Heh. So glad someone saw that. So glad it was you. ;-)

Elon Steelkeg |

I sent a message to Damien about trying to figure out what Elon would do in social situations other than crack wise with people as Femi and others handle the situations that they were hired to do.
I'd love input, but basically, Elon might venture off while these things happen if they last a while (as any good RP does!) as he has done with the mango smasher.
What do you guys think?

Isle of Dread |

As I told Elon, I'm very happy for you guys to split up a bit and go off on plot points that interest you. This is quite the sandbox and there is a lot to explore. If you're stuck on a pyramid during negotiations, feel free to assess it for its origin, architectural integrity, any ancient writings... or go off and talk to a native about brewing (or combat, or whatever else you like).
Of course, your options may become very limited very soon.... eep!

Gado Folklo |

Immediately after second reaction - 'Failure' is so much fun sometimes... I can't wait to see what happens. Hopefully Mtumbwi wakes up for it...

Isle of Dread |

By the way, you can easily wake Mtubmwi by just stepping on him (standard action, but still, easy).

Gado Folklo |

I thought about that specifically, and decided that pushing us further down the rabbit hole seemed like more fun. Panicked Gado just a bit, so he just kind of reacted. yea, thats my story and I am sticking to it.
Plus, as a player this feels a bit like a power play that I don't mind exploring. Why is the zombie master the only one allowed to use magic? Is he afraid of what might happen if someone else (gasp, a woman?) learned how to use it? The vibe I got is someone else using magic is a challenge to his position, which is why he keeps everyone else from using it, obviously summoning the undead to destroy anyone who might try. He keeps his position by fear and force. I very much want to see what happens when the new kids on the block challenge that authority.
Hence: Fun Failure!!!!
I love this game. :)
(I also recognize that "the vibe I got" could also be completely off base - and I am ok with dealing with whatever consequenses come our way.)

Aeslin |

Ok, that may have been like pouring gas onto a fire, but she felt a little mischievous... and they seem to be such primitives. As such, they deserve to be taught a lesson.
Also, this was going to happen eventually... we all know that. If he was going to off on any magic...

Mtumbwi |

Ciarán Cú Mhór-ríoghain |

We've come back from a couple of weeks off to self-destruct without even getting to the main island :)

Bazsil Grimalkin |

/me wanders into the thread.
I love how you guys make Bazsil seem civilized. That's pretty impressive.
Keep up the good work.
/me saunters out of thread, flicks oiled curls.

Isle of Dread |

I really don't want to kill you guys. This encounter is technically within your CR range (assuming the tribesmen don't join in) - but this particular necromancer has had a long time to get his permanent duration animate undeads up and running... and your CR range may be +2 because there are 8 of you, but you are still only level 4, so the maths doesn't quite work out against a single powerful foe.
Anyway, as I noted on gameplay, the battle would / will be epic. Entirely up to you. You also all have your flee!™ uses available. Oh, and fleeing down the south-western path right now doesn't use that up, that's just a regular "flee".

Isle of Dread |

Hey all.
I feel I need to give you all a bit of a push in the "work together" and "discuss" things direction. The key here is I don't think your characters are interacting enough. For the most part, their actions are very much solo-driven. This may be my fault for creating very niche roles with little overlap, and may be a result of a large party. Regardless, please do try to spring-board off each other more often (rather than me and my NPCs) for your roleplaying here. There is a lot you can still learn about each other, and it seems to me you're still kind of unclear as to how you'd like to approach the island.
Similar to what Bazsil said earlier about thoughts leaving little to go off from a roleplaying perspective (better to say it if you can think it so that other can react), a post where your character does nothing or says nothing actionable (like Bazsil's last one) also leaves very little to go off. Please try to chat more! I understand that occasionally your character will be angry or sulking or have other reasons for staying silent, just be aware that it does not progress the discussion. As such, try to make such posts the exception rather than the rule.
That is all. I think you all know what I'm angling at. I still really enjoy reading your posts... but this last encounter highlighted to me how much at odds the crew of The Audacious still are. If you want to survive the Isle of Dread, cohesion will be necessary.
Edit: By the way, Elon's bit where he went away to discuss brewing was fine, too. I know not everyone's characters will be into diplomacy. I would have liked it also if more of you took his lead and chatted to villagers other than the chief. At those points where you feel you don't have much to contribute, feel free to form a posse of your companions and accomplish a separate task.

Gado Folklo |

Roger Roger - I am as guilty as anyone. I work on it moving forward.

Mtumbwi |

+1 - will do. Going forward 'We're the eight best friends that anyone can be, We're the eight best friends that anyone can be.'

Bazsil Grimalkin |

<Baszil's post was the tofukey of meats.>
Totally yes and no.
It wasn't meant to be a meat post, it was a push post showing that I was still interested in the game, still playing, still aware of what is going on.
And I'm in total agreement about leaving hooks...just that the dish you served wasn't something that Baz was going to dine upon. Baz already sort of did that in blaming innocent Femi earlier.
So yes, I agree more interaction is necessary (as is more posting from others), but also sometimes one's posts are just pushing things along and keeping the game going.

Gado Folklo |

So apparently I am still 3rd level. I could have sworn I updated that. Oof. I'll get that taken care of ASAP.
Sorry! Thanks for the heads up Elon!

Gado Folklo |

Heeeey look who finally made it to the party! (I am level 4 now... sheesh)

Isle of Dread |

Sorry all for my lack of postage yesterday. We were setting up the Christmas tree and baking Christmas cookies (German-style... so awesome).
25 posts... eep! I'll try to catch up soon.

Gado Folklo |

Just wanted to say I LOVED the back and forth with Ixchel, and then Mtumbwi jumping on board with the conversation.
Nice work Ciaran.
Oh - and totally didn't meant to make it seem like you were the last option for Gado, I was trying to get the vibe across that everyone was grateful Gado wasn't approaching them with his excited outburst.
Then after I posted I realized that was much more an Aeslin thing to do...
We are still friends :) (I hope)

Isle of Dread |

Hey all. Busy day for me today. Can't guarantee I'll be able to put any more posts up until tomorrow.

When I've stopped crying myself to sleep, I'll let you know :)

Mtumbwi |

When I've stopped crying myself to sleep, I'll let you know :)
What is it with you two and crying yourselves to sleep?

Ciarán Cú Mhór-ríoghain |

I just... have a lot... of emotions.

Isle of Dread |

Ye gods! This is tricky over PbP. So much exposition. Would be a lot easier to run face to face over the tabletop... and also in 1st edition where you didn't have all these pesky 'skills'. I hope I've answered everything. Please let me know if I've missed you out, there's a lot to catch up on.

Isle of Dread |

Okay, things are slowing down here. I'll give you guys until tomorrow morning (ish) to share what you know with Tenoch and make any requests before he gives you his version of the story.
Take this time also to chat here in the discussion thread about what your plan is for moving forwards... and then I'll give you a chance to reveal it in character on the gameplay thread. Assume the natives remain friendly and that the trade goes well. They will offer to give you a guide who will take you as far as the tar pits (1-2 days north) but no farther.

Mtumbwi |

So I have to say that I am digging this. I could spend lots of time here, but I understand that the group would like to venture forth.
What I would like to happen is to spend a bit more time in the village. Mtumbwi plans to set up shop in the busiest part of town, market, the watering hole, or wherever, and try to convert the natives to religion.
When we are ready to depart, I am good with whatever direction the group would like to explore.

Gado Folklo |

I'm with Mtumbwi - Gado wants to hear stories, pitch a tent (ha!) and dig into his research.
As a player, I am happy to venture out beyond the wall as well. Gado will accompany grudgingly, mostly because he feels he has things he can do in the village.
I mentioned it in character, but I think we should set up our base camp here, near the wall. We should dig out the rod of splendor and throw a party this evening.
The next day we could either begin to get familiar with the village and the people in it, or make our first foray out beyond the wall, maybe to inspect the tar pits.
Thats my thoughts...

Isle of Dread |

Glad you guys are enjoying things. Happy to keep up the village roleplay as long as all of you are. I don't mean to push... I guess I figured that since there were only a few people posting yesterday it was winding down.

Bazsil Grimalkin |

Also, I'll roll the sense motives around here! ;-P Just tell me what you were trying to get a read on (in a spoiler perhaps) and I'll reply with what you get.
We'll see. Hard to want to wait for a bit for you to reply when Bazsil is on an angry roll. Maybe now that things have calmt down.
Bazsil's anger is fierce and neither he nor I can control it.

Isle of Dread |

You have to wait for me anyway... unless you the player already know my NPCs' motives... eep!

Isle of Dread |

Nothing from Ciaran. Bummer...moving on.
Ciarán is mostly not able to post on weekends. He does if he can, but (as with a lot of us) weekends are tricky. Not sure if I let everyone know already or not.
Also, sorry for my lack of posting yesterday. It got crazy busy.
Speaking of... in the coming two weeks, my daughter is home from school. I'm afraid my posting will be erratic over that time. I'll still aim for 1/day, but I'm afraid 2/day will be likely impossible until school resumes in the first week of January.

Isle of Dread |

Be careful, guys, this thing is on the high CR range and could tear you apart if you aren't focused and working as a team. It could take most of you (individually) down in a single round toe-to-toe.
You chose big game and a 'solo' hunt, so expect a big fight! Don't forget that you can flee (or flee!™) if the need arises.

Aeslin |

Totally understood, GM.
I have a partial plan, as discussed with Bazsil already. This thing is going to be risky, for sure, but we can probably do it. Maybe.

Isle of Dread |

Hey all. Sorry for not starting combat today as promised. The kids were experiencing what can only be described as a "Christmas Hangover" type thing. Tired, aggressive and grumpy... too much stimulation over the last few days and it came to a head today.
So... we'll crack on with the combat tomorrow morning. Sleep well all, and I'm looking forward to seeing if you can take this thing down!
