Male Hooman Utter Fool/4

Sooooo...are we actually going to go and ask questions? I see lots of banter but not much moving. Are we waiting on me to move us along? Or...

I know, not that long ago, but still. Captain Jackrum's been waiting for awhile now and I do so want to use some of the lines I've cooked up.

Tiger Taoist, Sworddancer

You know Delroy...or, Gwenn, I was suggesting that Rosza interrogate them because she is awesome with words, though you can too but I figured getting Rosza in trouble would be more fun. :)

Male Raccoon: d6 Witch Finder: d6

I figured, though if it comes down to rolls and numbers, two heads can be better than one.

Otherwise, Rosza is likely one of our best choices just given the amount of good drama that can be created around her.

Female Bat : Star Elementalist

I'm ready to go in.
Although I do want to talk with Gwenn a bit more. There is a romance in there, I'm sure.

Male Hooman Utter Fool/4

I'll put something up then.

Talk with Gwenn all you want, Delroy has clearly labeled her as a potential love interest in his sheet, lol.

Male Wolf

Been gone too long...such a sad sad song...

Trying to keep up with games. Wife on early shifts and me on late ones hurts my sleep starved brain.

Female Weasel Dilettante

Just a note that I am visiting with family over the long weekend and will be back on my usual 'schedule' Tuesday, though there may be enough left of my exhausted mind to post tomorrow night post-flight. Have my laptop but spending bunches of time writing is kinda frowned upon by the relatives when visiting.

Male Hooman Utter Fool/4

Suresure

Male Hooman Utter Fool/4

moooooooooooooooooooooooogoogaipan.

I declare that possibly we should not be waiting on one specific person to start this shindig, and that I fell into the exact trap I wanted to avoid in encounter design. BLARGH!

Male Wolf

It does seem to have happened. Does yhe wolf need to burst in the doors?

Male Hooman Utter Fool/4

I dunno, will ye be around for the followup? If I bring in a smoking gun as it were it needs to either fire or be clearly put away for some reason plot-wise.

Male Hooman Utter Fool/4

...dun dun...dun dun....dun DUN....DUN dun....dun DUN DUN DUN DUND UDNfasdfaksd;lakghadf

Jaws theme wasn't doing it for me.

Who wants to claim the title of Jumpstarter of the Thing? Someone that isn't me? If it is me this will go weird fast, but it's been a week...a bit more actually, time to figure out how to go on not-as-planned!

Tiger Taoist, Sworddancer

A bit out of character but Quinn could always go in and start grilling except speak only in her native and play bad cop. It would be a bit out of character though. :)

I should probably have posted this earlier, I apologize.

Honestly I am not sure how to continue from this and Quinn would be taking cues from the others particularly where the law is involved, more so because the accused are nobles.
If you have any ideas on how Quinn can push things forward a bit I am open to suggestions.

Male Hooman Utter Fool/4

Honestly you can probably just throw your status and metaphorical weight around until someone bothers to check and dig and see that your House has no other representatives in Calabria...but there's no real way for them to find out just what your status is back home, so most people will kowtow because they don't want to be held responsible for souring relations with Zhongguo by the Rinaldi, trade being the lifeblood of the city and all.

So go ahead and do whatever! Give the others an opening to follow your act, but otherwise you can probably do great just by acting haughty and telling the guard what to do and scaring the bats.

Male Hooman Utter Fool/4

And I think, for my part, the only reason this would be "out of character" for our Lady Kuin is because she hasn't spoken up much before. You have status. Talk, and people will have to listen or suffer consequences of undesirable sorts.

Female Bat : Star Elementalist

Part of Natalia's problem right here is that I don't have anything on Nicusor Zvonimir.
I didn't witness him with the box, I didn't witness him in the baths, and all I could really say was that he might have tried to kill us with a fireball, but since it was used on a window...
So Natalia doesn't really have any questions (or line of questioning about the box) she can think of to push Nicusor to open up.

Now that woman Natalia has plenty to say to, including trying to use her black magic on a Noble (namely Natalia)! And using her black magic on Quinn. And using black magic in general.

I really wish Delroy was here, because he also witnessed it, and can add some "Church" backing to the accusations.

Male Hooman Utter Fool/4

He never had the box so you couldn't really have witnessed him with it lol. That's actually a bit of a weak point because nobody ever HAD it except Gwenn and Delroy that you know for sure.

You could probably stretch the flagrant vandalism via elemental fire into something worse if you tried though. Pretty sure he *did* attempt more than just a fireball...but then Rosza charged him and he didn't want to get shanked. His intent was clear though, and this being the kind of legal system it is the only thing stopping that from being enough is his status.

Now, Madalena OTOH you've definitely got more going against her, but your prime witness remembers nothing, so without a firm piece of arcane link-age or something similar that would only be used for necromancy, it'll be tougher to argue than perhaps hoped.

Note that I'm not trying to railroad them into being freed, just laying out that circumstances make it perhaps more difficult than you might have thought. This is also why I'm pushing y'all to USE the daylight you've got quickly. You might find what you need, you might not.

Male Hooman Utter Fool/4

So...anyone got a plan yet? Need a hint? Want a hint? While I'd certainly love for these two to walk free right off just to impress upon y'all the serious disparity on legal rights in the setting, I also know that shoving things in player faces is non-fun, and "damn we could have used that heads up earlier" is ultra annoying when it occurs.

Male Hooman Utter Fool/4

Also I believe I was asked if a wolf needed to burst in the doors? When is that happening, hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm? ;)

Female Bat : Star Elementalist

I guess part of my problem is that I don't know what to question them about.
It is obvious that something was going on, but how this relates to everything else is confusing. I know we should question them, but I can't think of any questions to ask that they couldn't just laugh off.
I understand that it is very hard to stick anything on a noble, and particuarly one in Triskellian with connections to the Rinaldi (which means if they do have other nobles on their side they could murder with impunity and get "freed").
I guess some of my problem is stemming from my lack of 'legal' knowledge. We are currently questioning them, I understand. But how does this link in with accusing them of their crimes? When do we accuse them of their crimes? Whom do we make the accusations to? Do they have to be proven guilty right now, or can an accusation of a crime hold them for a longer time?
And exactly how much time do we have left? Minutes (in which case Delroy will never make it in time, and anything he can testify to is lost)? Hours (in which case I can leave and try to arrange things to be more favorable to us)?

Male Hooman Utter Fool/4

You have about twelve hours from whenever you decide to leave the compound to find evidence and bring it forth in a convincing manner, because I'm generous that way sometimes.

You don't do the accusing directly yourself, by technicality. You would if the assailant was lowborn, probably, but with a peer what you're doing is collecting evidence enough to force a trial by peer jury, which means the two of them would have to stay "accommodated" in the Constabulary's custody until the trial, at which point their final fate would be decided based on testimony and evidence.

So you've got basically until midnight (roughly when the altercation initially occurred) to quickly find something that will present a case well enough that they move to trial, which will give you time to investigate further if that's your wish, or to start lobbying for enemies of the Zvonimir to vote against them aka buy some votes, as it were.

Now, presuming the hint is desired, would it be preferred in game or out?

Male Hooman Utter Fool/4

Dids I kills it?

....

Wagons.

Tiger Taoist, Sworddancer

I am actually waiting on a response from Natalia, I think. I'LL check to make sure my post didn't get eaten.

Male Wolf

The fairies dragged me off and brainwashed me into being a worker drone. Gawd I hate my job these dayd.

Male Hooman Utter Fool/4

Unnerstanable, but if they hear you say that who KNOWS what'll happen?!

Your job, unfortunately, must come first. I'm sure if you try hard you can find time for all of us schmucks though.

EDIT: Also, this:

"wagons."

Is a *hint.* By the by. If people are still wondering what to question people about. Or what to find connections between somehow. This could drive your next scene, for example. Or not, up to y'all.

Male Raccoon: d6 Witch Finder: d6

And fire magic.

Male Hooman Utter Fool/4

And necromancy.

Male Hooman Utter Fool/4

Trying to think of a good jumpstart that actually meshes with things that I want to introduce/continue is harder than I thought, apparently. This time the delay is on my head. Apologies.

Tiger Taoist, Sworddancer

If you want to give some ooc hints, or such I can always give Quinn a flash of insight. Right now the only reason I as a player know there is anything else to do is because of your suggestion for hints (aka I am not seeing it as player thus I cant pass it to my character) but if I know what it is, I can guide Quinn towards it ( being a DM and having spent over a year with six games a week, I am good at dealing with metaknowledge.)

Male Hooman Utter Fool/4

Well, the OOC hints are supposed to be pushing people toward having their own flashes of insight, which is preferable where at all possible to me just blurting it out, but if I can't figure out how to wrangle this thing I've been flailing at the way I want to I might just *do* that.

For the moment I'm trying to decide whether to blast y'all off in one direction or another, or both, or neither. Mostly depends on your choices.

....y'know what? Screw it. I'm just gonna put down whatever crystallizes first and we'll see if our collective brains can keep up.

....

.............

C'mon guys, wagons. Fire? Necromancy? You found one done in by that and it was never fully explained satisfactorily?

Male Hooman Utter Fool/4

>.>

<.<

.....eeyup.

Male Hooman Utter Fool/4

Sorry for the relatively prolonged absence, for me anyway. I'll get on things tomorrow hopefully, provided nothing goes wrong while we fumigate the house.

Male Raccoon: d6 Witch Finder: d6

@Javiera: Del's suggesting leaving the bones alone until we do our best to solve their vengance problem. Moving them might make their dangerous disturbances much worse.

Female Red Fox

Bah. Silly ghosties. You'd figure they'd want to be buried.

Male Hooman Utter Fool/4

:I

Sometimes I wonder when cybernetic memory enhancements will arrive so I don't have to worry about losing all my off-loaded external memories aka technology with planners and calendars and alarms on them.

Male Hooman Utter Fool/4

...um...people who aren't Delroy and Javiera...where are y'all?

Female Bat : Star Elementalist

Unsure of where to go next.
I would like to drag Quinn off somewhere for a brief bit (and maybe help get her Nobility status started), but I don't want to miss Delroy if he shows up.
And the bit about the girl needs investigating... but I'm not comfortable trying to be the social type.

Male Hooman Utter Fool/4

Sounds like it's time to reach beyond our comfort zones then.

As for Delroy, I'm not sure if he's going to show up where you are or not. Mayhap he'll chime in here and tell us, maybe not. If you want to drag Quinn off, then drag her off and do whatever comes into your head. If you want to investigate the connection I've been un-subtly hinting at between the bats and your misadventure with carts and thieves, we can do that. If you want to take up on Guillaume's presented lead with the bookseller's ward, then we can do so. All of them will reveal different details, none of which are *less* important, but they will push things in different ways, and you may end up with different results for different paths.

@"being the social type": Much the same as I told Quinn, you're a noble, being social is pretty easy: throw your weight and status around on everyone you think you have the slightest chance of getting away with it. On those few people it *doesn't* immediately cow, then you can worry about formulating words and actually making arguments.

If all else fails, exhaust your Nobility gift to get your way *anyway* and I'll figure out repercussions later.

And if you worry too much about whether what you're saying sounds silly, it's guaranteed to turn out like that. Just word it naturally however you'd say it yourself and let me worry about whether people think Natalia is smooth or goofy.

Male Hooman Utter Fool/4

Nicusor displayed lots of skill with fire, but nothing mystical or cognoscenti-like. Are you sure you're not thinking of that tiger?

I thought it was Nicusur who disappeared in the pipe room. Then that would mean I need to word it as "He is in league with a Spellbinder, who might be manipulating him."

Male Hooman Utter Fool/4

You'd be correct that he disappeared in the pump room, but you're forgetting that old tiger who was with him and actually cast the spell, so your mystic sense said. He must have done his job really well. ;)

Tiger Taoist, Sworddancer

Sorry this wqs a bad week for me, first my internet got hacked and a guy quit and we got llots of extra shifts due to the holiday, so Im really tired tired and so Ill post something better teus or wed. Natalia feel free to drag me off to places.

Male Hooman Utter Fool/4

And introducing our newest comic relief, apparently. Them kids and their drinking, what'll they think of next?

Male Hooman Utter Fool/4

Not that any of you have really peeked behind the curtain this outing, but I realized today I'd planned for us to be done with this adventure a month ago, even accounting for unplanned side treks. So I'll be rolling some elements together behind the scenes and...it may not make a ton of sense at first but once you're out of the woods it should be clear. So like most things in life I guess.

First step: since Natalia and Quinn are engaged in a short side bit, ignore the description I put up of the bookshop. Things will be a bit different and more...immediately engaging upon arrival.

Second step: Your two-branch investigations will come together in a way that I hope will make enough sense nobody rolls their eyeballs too much. Not that you didn't expect me to connect them ANYWAY but, y'know. Sometimes haste makes waste.

Female Red Fox

Sorry for my absense. Work got a bit complicated this last few weeks, which isn't your guys fault. Will try my best to check in everyday and post.

Male Hooman Utter Fool/4

Every day is wonderful, though I know most of you have lives beyond what I do at the moment. I understand a day going by without posts, two once in awhile, that happens because life isn't just this game.

It's when it gets longer than that AND I have no warning or messages about prolonged absences that I get annoyed and a bit worried, because I have no idea when people will be back (if ever) or what caused it.

@Everybody: If you're not gonna be able to post for three or more days for some reason, PM me so I at least KNOW not to bug you about posting. If you don't have a planned absence but can't post for whatever reason, if at ALL possible drop a one-line in the Discussion or a PM saying so. And of course if you observe this happening to ME, please do not hesitate to call me on my b**@#&*%. I deserve it.

I rest much easier when I know WHY people aren't posting, and it keeps me from spiraling down my usual (unhealthy) path. Which is "people aren't posting, I have nothing to respond to, don't wanna post more" which leads to players posting even LESS because I'm not responding timely.

Basically, when things slow down this much I worry that posting isn't happening because nobody's interested and I haven't crafted anything worth engaging with on my end. Irrational perhaps but there's not much I can do about my gut reactions.

So...yeah. I guess tell me how often you can actually engage with the game and we'll figure out where things stand from there. I would really prefer at least every other day, but most people don't have as much free time as me, and I stumble often enough I know it's not where it should be.

Can we manage at least more than once a week? I really feel personally that past that point the game is moving too slowly. Rebuttals? Rants? Screaming Accusations of Blindness to My Own Faults?

Male Hooman Utter Fool/4

For those wondering when Gwenn and Delroy went from "might have a crush, confused at each other" to "apparently having a relationship did she just suggest....?"

Arkloyd (Delroy's player) found me on Skype when I recruited him into the game, so we use that to play out his solo side scenes rather than the sideboard. It's handy, real-time, and riffing off people is easier with immediacy. It also lends itself to takebacks and retroactively going "ehhh, let's do it this way instead" better.

So we use that, and there's been...I wanna say three important scenes we played out that way that built their relationship up. You guys just can't see it because I haven't posted them to the sideboard. The sheer volume of text and the hassle of using Skype's terrible logging functions means you're not likely to see them either, sorry.

Keep in mind though that they're still impetuous teenagers and prone to rush into things and be illogical. Nobody ever said this was a good idea, though they'll try to make it so.

Female Bat : Star Elementalist

Sorry.
I tend to keep reading, but don't usually post if there is nothing I think I should respond to. (I'm not one to post for posting sake.)
And so, I drift and find that it has been several days since I said anything.
I will try to keep up with at least letting you know I'm still here.

Thanks for an effort to keep me updated!

The lurk-y attitude is not usually a problem in most games, but it kind of IS in this one because more than half the group adopts that stance, or at least it seems that way when I read previous pages to keep my facts in line.

...>_< that's not really clear nor helpful. Um...lemme try again.

I try to make things as interest-holding as I can manage. The oft-occurring diversion to sub-plots and side treks is a big part of that, because who doesn't like to have the spotlight for awhile?

What I'm aiming for is...I guess to my thinking if I was hitting the right bits of plot or game or whatever on my end, then nobody would feel like they were just "posting for posting's sake" because I'd have regular responses coming in because people would really WANT to engage with it as often as they could manage (given their life circumstances and other entertainment choices of course). This is why I'm asking so often if I'm on the right track, if something needs to change, if people want me to cook up something sudden and different to force a reaction to play out, etc.

I've never been involved in a PbP (or a game period) where engagement comes less frequently that didn't also include a hefty amount of player boredom or frustration with things, so to me the lack of regular response or OOC chatter or whatever indicates not biding one's time to insert an in-character response, but a big lack of interest, and that deflates my own interest pretty quickly. So when you see ME not posting for a day or two, that tends to be why.

Aaaaaaaand rambling again. TL;DR version: I want to see you guys having fun with the game as much as humanly possible, all my twists and turns and efforts strive toward that, but if y'all don't tell me why y'aren't posting regularly then I'm left to my own devices and thoughts, which are not flattering in that regard.

Male Hooman Utter Fool/4

I'm thinking maybe two more volleys back and forth for each of y'all at most before we get together and hit some action up. Seems like we've been stuck in yakkety yak mode for so long...oh, because we have! ...anyone wanna run away from some ghosts? How about battle a mean illicit wizard-type in a crumbling, ruined old building that could collapse any second? Perhaps both at the same time?
