I'm intending to try and make Slippery Syl the villain and Tam the hero who saved me. I'm hoping to sow confusion if nothing else but hopefully Tam won't want to protest that he was trying to murder me too. That might put him in the position where he'll feel he has to turn on Syl. Rather than my word against theirs hopefully it will be our word against hers.
If possible I'll try and arrange that Tam gets healed before Syl, and that I'm there to thank him profusely for saving me.
At least that's the plan, but no plan survives contact with the enemy so I'll play it by ear...

I nearly peed myself just now. My wife read up the Skald... She looked at me and started doing the angry stomp and snap from Westside Story.

Tao Sheng |

RIGHT?! Oh man, Our daughter is in such good hands... >:D

I'm going to stop requiring the rolls to avoid drinking the Rum Ration. Unless you get really unlucky, everyone's pretty much guaranteed to succeed at the DC 10 check. Feel free to continue to roleplay out what you do, though. It's fun to see your inventiveness. :-)
@Alain/Tao: Nice job in the bilges. That's a particularly brutal fight, and you two handled it really well. Things took a very unexpected turn, and it has majorly affected events happening later on in Book One. In some ways, it's helped out the party. In other ways, it's made things more difficult. Congrats. :-)

Ironically, in my game, Syl has become one of their closest allies. It was a bit...odd...but, yeah, staunch supporter.

Tao Sheng |

In the game I was in, My char was actually the one that went down in the bilges and w/o training, I used the first 2 rounds to disarm both of my attackers. The two were so unnerved, they literally jus walked out of the bilges head bowed and reported back to Plugg and Scourge while my char finished up his work. It was actually quite amusing.

Aldous Mathis |

Quite, Tao. I'm very concerned how this will go in my game. There are a few different people who could get taken down there.

Range medium (100 ft. + 10 ft./level)
Targets one creature/level
Duration 10 min./level
Saving Throw none; Spell Resistance noDESCRIPTION
You can whisper messages and receive whispered replies. Those nearby can hear these messages with a DC 25 Perception check. You point your finger at each creature you want to receive the message. When you whisper, the whispered message is audible to all targeted creatures within range. Magical silence, 1 foot of stone, 1 inch of common metal (or a thin sheet of lead), or 3 feet of wood or dirt blocks the spell. The message does not have to travel in a straight line. It can circumvent a barrier if there is an open path between you and the subject, and the path's entire length lies within the spell's range. The creatures that receive the message can whisper a reply that you hear. The spell transmits sound, not meaning; it doesn't transcend language barriers. To speak a message, you must mouth the words and whisper.
As I read the spell you point at the recipients to cast the spell but after that, as long as they remain within range, you can still communicate. It will even travel around corners and penetrate up to 3' of wood.

Ah okay, my mistake. Thank-you for clearing it up for me.
Ummm ... Happy thanksgiving.

Alain Shadestrom |

I think it was that way in an earlier version of D&D. I thought the same but recently re-read the spell and noticed the change.
I've always wondered if you could use the spell to eavesdrop on someone. Cast the spell on them and listen in on their conversations as they from 100+ feet away. Seems a bit powerful for a cantrip though.
And a happy thanksgiving to all of you as well!

Your Benevolent Dictator |

I'd rule that they'd have to be whispering (as per the spell description). Also, since there's no saving throw, I'd rule that they'd know that they're under the effect of a spell (houserule). And, sense Golarion is such an insanely high-magic world, your 'average Joe' would be aware of the dangers of divination magic and have ways to prevent casual eavesdropping of private conversations. :-)

Happy turkey day everyone... Oh... Dear... So full... So very full...

This is a Public Service Announcement:
I'm diving head first into last prep for my national certification test on the 20th. Therefore, my posting will probably slow a bit until then. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Hey guys.
Because it is a very strong possibility I will fail chemistry despite my best efforts, I am studying my ass off. I am so sorry I have been gone for so long, but after next week, its up to the professor. Pray for me and send me good vibes, because I am sinking in a sea of stress.

Tao Sheng |

Best of luck to both of you. I think you all will do fine. No more negative thoughts. Focus on the positive and keep striving. You can DO IT!!! Sends the best of thoughts and vibes to both of you.

Aldous Mathis |

I think we all get it. The forums on a whole have been slowed down due to finals and holidays, I think. Oh and now there is RPG superstar to deal with, as well. Dang it, I have to come up with a good idea.

Sorry, just had 2 18 hour shifts, so have been away from any access recently.
I am ready to go.

Aldous Mathis |

I looked at moving, decided against it.

Tao Sheng |

I have a child that turned 1 yesterday. Is wearing 2 year old clothing, is just on the verge of walking, and can say "Mommy" and "What's that?" Does that count?

River Calah |

Does doing 18 hour shifts for about 6 days of the week, for the week just gone and next week count?

Aldous Mathis |

I work at a mall, in a restaurant, during the holidays. So it's a bit hectic.

Tao Sheng |

Harsh. I hope you all have an easier time with that thing we all call Real Life. Especially you Alain. That haircut issue sounds rough. Good luck with that man. ^_^
